I... actually don't know. Help?

In your signatures, that is. I see alot of people (including myself) who put the points cost of their full armies in their signatures. I'm just wondering, how do you calculate the points? From WYSIWYG? From just base model cost? With all upgrades?

To Valhall! ~2800 points

I go WYSIWYG. No upgrades apart from those shown on the model, even if it's an upgrade I'd always take.

You don't.

You just go WYSIWYG. What the model has. Skip upgrades like 'Veteran Sergeant'.

When I used to list it I'd put the exact WYSIWIG biggest force exactly as I use them normally. My IG carrying case has army lists of up to 2500pts in it so I'd list 2500 even though it didn't include a few swap characters and models in the case that didn't fit in a single force org/CAD that brought it actually up to 2700ish.

I don't do that, but if I did, it would make sense to me to count the loadout I most commonly fielded in actual games.

When discussing points values of a collection, I go with the highest value I could field, including any upgrades that don't require a bit.

WYSWYG. For non modeled things, like mastery levels on librarians,I'll default to how I'd most likely field it.

I count up what I use them as. My models typically have a 'base build' that I include in a list and then add or remove less important upgrades as I get closer to the end goal. So to refer to that model in a grand total I use that base build, even if a in normal game I use him has thirty points of other Wargear or options.

Edited way after the fact to fix the gibberish I was apparently speaking

Bare models, no upgrades / magic items, etc.

That said if something could be two different things, i use it as whatever i use that model as (for instance i have a few models that could be Elven Lords or heros, but i tend to use particular models as one or the other).

Bare models is a bit skewed down in Fantasy though. The cost difference between say, a Vampire Lord bare and kitted out is astonishing.

I don't see the point in getting painfully exact with numbers, since I view it as, 'damn, I've got that many?' I've got 80 necrons warriors, so just base cost x80. 100 tac marines standing in ranks? Tac marine x100. I wouldn't see the point in making sure to get every flamer, plasma pistol, and meltagun.

It might be different for other armies, but there is a huge gap between “naked" and "on the table" for marine point values. Like 20-25% more. So don’t sell your marines short by listing minimum point values.

I do base cost, or if there is an upgrade I always get / mandatory (like you never run a crisis suit without a weapon) I base it on how i normally play it.

for example, I have three models which can be either trygons, trygon primes, or mawlocs.

I almost never run them as trygons, and have not run a trygon prime in years. So, I calculated them as two mawlocs, and one basic trygon.

I have 18 crisis suits - the forgeworld suits I costed as an average commander, the rest I costed as 12 deathrains and 4 fireknives (common ratios I run of either suit just as an example).

As most vehicle upgrades are miniscule compared to the cost of the vehicle, I did not bother with any of those, and they are just base cost.
(for example, while most of my razor back turrets are either las, las plas, or assault cannon, I did the cost all just as basic reazorbacks).

However, in thinking of all this - what I am most proud of, is that of my 10,000 points of tau, only one model is not fully painted, and two models are not based (I have to paint the bridge of my orca, and neither it nor my tigershark has a scenic base yet).
This took a few years, and a LOT of discipline to complete, but had a great sense of accomplishment once done.

I take it by what I play. If I can play a competitive list at 1500pts. Then I have 1500pts. Chances are I have something like 1625pts worth of base models. but I don't play every model, and some models have upgrades.

I just go to nearest tournament number of competitive amounts I can play.

Same, I have just put at what level I usually like to play that army regardless of how many other bits and pieces I have lying around.

same for me. I count them as if I would field a normal army.

WYSIWYG can sometimes yield quite a bit of point difference. A 100-point captain /w a power sword might look just the same as someone elses fully kitted out 300+ point chapter master.

Painted and WYSIWYG only. If I added mine up, it would be this method and how I would usually field them. For Rhinos, it would just be bare costs, as that's how I run them. I rarely put Extra Armor or any other upgrades on them.
