I thought I would come on here and be the only one complaining about the new Eldar book. I am so happy I am not alone. It's actually very calming to know that there appears to be a mass exodus, and that I am not alone in my desire to do so. I made a terrible mistake 3 years ago: getting into 40k. I spent at least $5000 on models, and about another $3000 on commissions. With the release of the Eldar book, and GW failing to take into consideration the balance of this game, I finally have enough gusto to say goodbye to this game. It's been an addiction to continually buy more stuff so I could still be competitive (my meta is filled with Eldar players, spamming wave serpents, lynx, even Titans).

I hope all the Eldar fans (at least the ones who play it to pound face) enjoy playing each other. Anyone interested in a large CSM army with a lot of magnetized options, and professionally painted, please inquire within. I will be posting to ebay this weekend.

Sold my armies and I'm so glad I did. There are so many great games out there that I'm having a tabletop gaming Renaissance.

youre making this decision based on your meta? I should consider getting out of 40k because your meta is Eldar rich?

does their codex suck? it appears so but I have an option of not playing them. I play for fun, I do not care one bit about competetive tournament play. we have yet to see what the ITC is going to do about their D WPNs.

I agree I dont know what GW was thinking but I'll wait till the Codex drops and make my analysis.

So.... I've been playing 40k for over 20 years. I've watched all of these trends of power creep. Witnessed dozens of cringe-worthy decisions and I have never seen anything as bad as what has been leaked for this dex.

I mean it. This is leaps and bounds above any previous gak. The closest silliness was the virus outbreak card and virus bomb in 2nd edition, which the desingers themselves urged us to rip up and throw away. Lol.

I'm very upset with this. It's the first time I've said the words: "I won't play against this army." In 20 years, this is the one. My most common opponent has only Eldar and we're going to have to sit down and come up with something that will allow us to have fun games. I'm leaning towards he keeps using his old book. Unless he wants to leave allt he D-weapons at home. Then this book might be tolerable (he owns no jetbikes).

That being said. I will not leave the game. I will not boycott. I'll just build my own Eldar army for use at tourneys and against other Eldar players in more casual games.

So, GW wins. lol.

I understand why you'd say that, but it's been an issue for awhile, not just with Eldar. Certain books just get neglected, and that is not a game I want to play. It reminds me of WoW, in the days where there was no use for certain classes, and warlocks were always the best class to play. It ruins the game. There are plenty of other more balanced games out there. I will miss the models, as they are by far the best. I won't however miss the terrible rules, and threat of books like the Eldar one or nerfs to already subpar books (poor GK).

It's been a long time coming.

I'm glad you're so socially awkward that you'd throw out several thousand dollars rather than talk to your opponent to ensure you both have a good game.

If the opposing Eldar army does not contain Transported wraith guard, Wraithknights, D-artillery or Windriders you have nothing to complain about. What else is there to whine about? Their OP ability to take below-average tanks in squadrons now? Buffs to their expensive T3 specialist infantry units? Scaaaary... CSM have no good way to deal with 3+ AV infantry.

If you can't say "hey man, my codex has no way to deal with your codex's power build. Do you want tone it down so we both have more fun?" Then I guess your only option is to have a 5000$ tantrum and rage quit.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Do it.
It will mean more cheap models for nice players to get into the hobby.

Also to put it in perspective, this really happens every time a codex is released. Usually things turn out not quite so bad once people get used to the new codex and have played it a few times.

And since they're buying used, they're not buying from GW. Win win.

Actually, it's attitudes like this that help compel my decision.

I am getting solicitations. It will be priced to sell fast. Didn't think of it that way, but you got a point.

How so?
Scotsman is being very reasonable. It seems a bit rash to throw away something that expensive and valuable just because of a single codex. You don't have to play against that codex or the OP parts of it, nor will the new Eldar codex be eternal. Give it a year or two and there will be a new one again.

'I'm glad you're so socially awkward that...' Is not the start of a reasonable argument. OP has already stated that it isn't just the Eldar codex that's making him leave, that's just the final straw. A point I've been trying to stress about why people might be leaving over the Eldar dex. There's a breaking point for pekole.

So when you have a new computer, do you toss it out the window the second a new computer with higher specs comes out?
