Just getting back into 40k after a long hiatus and was looking for some pointers on a 750pts starting list I'd been toying with.
I like the Flesh Tearers Strike Force for its reduced troops tax, but am not bound to it if the general consensus is that the Baal Strike Force is superior in every way.
Models I have at the moment are Librarian w/ JP, Chaplain w/ JP, 2x box of Death Company, box of Sanguinary Guard, 3x boxes of bikes, a Tactical Squad built as
below, a box of tacticals, 2x dreadnoughts (able to build these into any flavour), 2x box of devastators and a predator.
Likely opponents: Orks, SM, AdMech, and AM

HQ
Librarian (85pts)
- JP, Meltabomb, Bolt Pistol and Force Weapon, Divination

Elites
5x Death Company (140pts)
- JP, 4 w/ bolt pitsol and chainsword, 1 w/ PF and Bolter

Troops
10x Tactical Marines (205pts)
- Sgt w/ Combi-Melta + Bolt Pistol, Meltagun and HF
- Dedicated Transport: Drop Pod w/ Stormbolter

Fast Attack
5x Assault Marines (95pts)
- Sgt w/ Bolt Pistol + Chainsword, 2x Flamers, JP

Bike Squad (93pts)
- 2x Gravguns

Heavy Support
5x Devastators (130pts)
- 4x ML

Total: 748pts

List Adjusted for a bit more presence in the shooting phase.

Very Similar to my own list but instead of the assault squad I had another tac squad of the same set up and an empty pod to get the tacs in first turn.

What's your plan for the Assault Marines?

Also is there much need for Gallian's staff on a lvl 1 librarian?

I'd do a quick fix and replace the Bolter with a Bolt Pistol on the DC so that you can still fire all your weapons and charge.

I saw your list before pumping this one out. I've already made another with the same style (ie 2 drop pods and an empty) but with a fuiroso with frag cannon and heavy flamer instead of the tactical squad. Looking forward to giving that a whirl.

My plan with the Assault Marines was to use them as support for the DC, either helping out with bad assaults (I haven't played in a long time so these will be happening) or clearing out objective campers. I figure they may draw some fire away from the DC too.

You're probably right about Gallian's staff. Where would you spend the ten points? I'm imagining melta bombs for the Tac and Assault Sergeants maybe?

Funnily enough, DC get Relentless special rule. I can't really justify two special weapons for the extra attack on the PF guy, but with a bolter he can still shoot and charge anyway.

I got a game in last night against an AM player. The 10 man Assault Squad was focused by my opponent which allowed the librarian
and DC to get into combat relatively unscathed. Prescience + DC with gravgun support is glorious for cutting through Infantry Platoons.

My chief issue was chasing down a vet squad in chimera. With my meltaguns on foot and bike squad gone, I ended up having to try
and chase it with the PF in DC. To adjust for this I've cut the Assault Squad down to five guys and dropped a few upgrades elsewhere
to get a devastator squad with a few ML to crack open transports and light armor. The other option is a Las Predator for a more mobile AV platform.

Any advice is appreciated as always.
