I like this idea, but I don't have any Hordes stuff unfortunately, but I could find a couple of those and try them out.

Just my personal preference but I found the step from 15pts to 25pts hard just because of all the extra rules I had to balance at once. I found the slow build up helped me in the long run.
Alright, I was thinking of doing 25 to get in a couple of solos and some Winterguard, to show how units work together, but I can bump it down a bit.

Seriously, just let him win his first game or 2. Some people pull the "HE HAZ TO LERN SUMTIME!!!!" attitude but if you if you want someone to get into something you need to make it feel fun, and feel good. Now don't make it obvious you're throwing the game but maybe "midjudge" a charge & fail.
Winning feels good. Getting curb stomped doesn't. Now don't coddle him forever but if you go balls out & stomp him hist first few games, the enthusiasm likely won't be there to continue where as if he wins his first game or two he'll be more likely to pick it up.
Makes sense, I was planning on it already, but I'll do what I can, maybe move Magnus an inch or two close to Sorscha

PSorscha+Jugger+spriggan+widowmakers=15 pt list
PMagnus+Mangler+Nomad+Halberdiers=14 pt list
So you spot him a point but these lists are pretty basic and should give him a good grasp of the rules.
Sounds like some good lists, I do not however have the Mangler, so I'll have to put something else in
