Seriously, half the mechanicus left to side with chaos. There is ZERO reason they should not have been allowed to be battle brothers. You just say my mechanicus are chaos alligned. Done.

The renegades list from imperial armour 13 can do a dark mechanic build.

You get a heretek magos, and can take a wide range of units, including dark mech stuff like blood slaughterers , defilers, a brass scorpion.

And unlike the cult mechanicus stuff you are battle brothers with chaos.

The Chaos Space Marine and Chaos Daemon codexes, as well as their supplements, already are Dark Mechanicus books. And they are all battle brothers!

I seem to remember FW saying that the 30k mechanicum would be a good representation of the dark mechanicus in 40k.

Not so sure about daemons, but the soul grinder and defiler are definetly products of the dark mechanicum.
