Subject: [1750] - Tyranids - tyranids are like grots
I used to play with nids a while back and I remember them being solid army. I've recently built a small nid army but have it handed it to me every game;
My list is
Flying Dakka tyrant
16 genestealers and Broodlord
Lictor
Lictor
20 termies devourer
20 termies flesh borer
40 hormagaunts
10 gargoyles
Mucolids and spores
Exocrene
Carnifex with devourer
Mawloc
I can't seem to put any combination together to do damage???

First issue I'd see is a sever lack of synapse. Do your guys tend to just around taking IB tests?
I'd split the hromies down into small broods, use them as cannon fodder and to tie up shooty units quickly.
What else are you having trouble with? Who do you face? What tactics do you use?

You'll also notice your effective range of engagement is around 12"-18"
Lots of assault units.
Gaunts are very squish with low range.
I take it the only two damage dealers you have are the flyrant and the exocrine.
If you're going heavy on gaunts, venomthropes/malenthropes are a must. Tervigons are a solid choice to replenish stock.
But mostly you have to keep in mind a gaunt heavy army is not trying to kill the opponent. You're there to spam objective secured units and be able to tie up his lines.
Unless you're taking mass flyrant/mawloc, Tyranids don't have enough ranged firepower to be a threat, and don't have the durability to bring heavy hitters to close combat.

put it there s way I played a 1500 point game last night against blood Angels who knew he was playing tyranids. Turned up with 2 furisio dreadnought with flame storm cannon n flamers, a librarian dreadnought casting force 2 baal predators with assault cannons and heavy bolters. All dreads in drop pods and death company flying in on a storm bird
Automatically Appended Next Post: Tabled by turn 3
Automatically Appended Next Post: And yes only 2 damage dealers, I want to play nids but they seem very underpowered lack of real AP

Get another Flyrant firstly. That way you wont break the bank but it gives you a potent Nid creature and you can experiment from there.
Keep them in Swoop mode so all his flamers and blasts cant hit them
Everything else starts in reserve.
Mawloc pops up under his troops once they land in their dropods.
Put your carnifex in a pod of its own.
Infiltrate or outflank your Stealers into cover/out of LoS.
DS the Gargs in to claim some objectives or simply use them as fodder for your flying Tyrants.
Then outlfank your brood of devilgaunts and DS the Lictor in too.
Essentially you should be able to neuter his alpha strike from his pods and fast moving vehicles. Then try and hit back. Double Flyrants should take the stormbird out with some luck.
All theory here by the way, no idea how good he is, your terrain setup and reserve Nids can be dependant on reserve roll luck.

Sorry, I meant just using them to block line of sight or if your Tyrant has to go into glide mode he can stay behind them for a cover save hopefully. I use old 2nd ed Tyrants so am not sure how big the new guys are.

I would recommend eyeing up some of the Tyranid Formations. It shores up some of the weaknesses the models have and provides a good basis for army construction.
Specifically here it looks like you're close to two different formations whose names currently escape me. One is the squad of Flyrant / Gargoyles whom act as ablative wounds, and the other some of the Manufactorum (?) Genestealers or Lictor combinations. Take a look into them!
