Hello guys,

This is my first time posting any of my work, and I'm excited to share with you the beginnings of my Ad Mech army!

The idea here was to replace/improve some of the odd looking Ad Mech units (Cough, cough Kataphrons) with more Imperial-looking forces. The inspiration behind this force was a combo of post-apocalyptic ruggedness, streamlined Imperial-Guard style military units, and of course the unique skitarii/mechanicus aestietic/technology.

Background:

I wanted the army to look like a beaten up/weathered 1950's Chevy. Credit to Dr. Faustus for inspiring the color scheme with his Kastelan Robots tutorial. I highly recommend watching it for ideas about how to paint in the scheme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kasEpLchmCI The main color is hard to photograph well, but it;s a sea-foam green akin to this:

Fluff: (If you're into that sort of thing)

Spoiler:

Origins:

The Cult of the Machine Emperor was started by a rogue Tech Priest who transgressed against the mantra of the priesthood of Mars by claiming that the Omnissiah IS the God Emperor of Mankind; a human god, kept alive by a sophisticated machine who guides humanity's progress, and holds back the horrors of the Chaos Deities. Excommunicated for his heresy, the priest left Mars to roam the stars in search of archaic technology in a quest for knowledge aimed at alleviating humanity's technological stagnation.

As the word spread about the rogue tech priest, the Inquisition became interested and dispatched agents to subdue and apprehend the deserter. An entire battalion of Guardsmen and Inquisitorial storm-troopers and a small force of the Imperial Navy intercepted the Explorator Fleet shortly before it passed into the Koronus Expanse. Before an all-out conflict could ensue, the tech priest offered a parley with the Inquisitors and Imperial command, who reluctantly agreed. Rumor has it that so great was the Tech Priest's power of persuasion that he was able to not only dispel the rumors of his heresy, but convince the Imperials that he was following the divine will of the God-Emperor and bringing humanity into a new technological era. Smitten by his devotion to the Machine-Emperor, a descriptive nomenclature for the Emperor in his Golden Throne, the Imperial agents joined the ranks of his fleet and together disappeared into the Koronos Expanse, where they still roam the deadly cosmos for traces of long lost archeotech and long-forgotten human worlds that can be reclaimed and elevated by the Emperor's light.

Beliefs:

Flesh is weak, but it can be augmented by technology. The mind is The Machine-Emperor's lasting legacy. His mind, his spirit, still guiding the Imperium today; hence the mind is never to be altered. The Agents of the Cult of the Machine-Emperor rely on bravery and valor, not mind control and augmentation to follow the orders of their superiors. This core belief is embodied in their practice of not using servitors.

Symbol:

A human skull inside a golden cog; a representation of the Machine-Emperor inside his Golden Throne.

Makeup:

The Cult is made up of Imperial Guard and Storm-Trooper Veterans, ab-humans and Inquisitorial henchmen who have been mechanically modified in the image of the Machine-Emperor. No servitors exist in the cult.

Mission:

To roam the stars in search of archeotech, and thereafter to return their finding to the Imperium so that they may advance human knowledge past its current, stagnant state. Their ultimate goal is to find an STC that may hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of the Golden Throne so that the Machine Emperor may be restored to glory and once again lead humanity against the myriads of threats it faces.

The Units so Far:

Ogryn Destroyer:

I hated the Kataphron servitors from day one, so I decided I was gonna find a suitable replacement to wield their big grav cannons in my army. Luckily the Ogryn kit is both the right scale and comes with he same number of units. The conversion was easy and requited minimal cutting/filing and almost no green stuff. (Only for gap filling) I liked the idea of these big, hulking behemoths supporting their squishy humie comrades. I'm quite happy with the post-apocalyptic feel these guys have.

Cult Rangers:

Very minimal conversion here, the Skitarii rangers got the Scion beret heads, while the Vanguard got the scions helmet. I removed all pesky purity seals and nicked their overcoats to make them look more rugged. (Still in the works) Their armor looks and feel like something straight out of the fallout universe, and I love that!

More Pictures:
Spoiler:

Still a WIP...

What's next?

I have a whole force already built up and converted, but I am a notoriously slow and picky painter, and I am a student with a lot of activities on my plate so it will be a few weeks between each update to this thread. Here is a little preview of things to come (Apologies that they are not painted, and still very rough)
Spoiler:

Cult Priest Dominus
Dragoon without the pesky servitor.
Kastelan with better proportions and a big under-slung "phospor-cannon"
The other two Ogryn Destroyers. Oh my I have a lot of work to do...

Thank you for looking/reading! Please let me know what you think, and I would be very appreciative of any suggestions you may have.

Cheers!

The berets looked kind of arabic at first class which gave them a cool "techno-aladin" look I thought was pretty sweet.

Very clean paintjobs, and a lovely scheme and mood of army. I think you're hitting gold.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

Funny you should say that, I actually bit the bullet and ordered him last week with the intention of turning him into an HQ or Inquisitor character. That armor is just...

I like what im seeing regarding the orgyn. How bad was the price difference, vs just buying the Destoryers

I adore this so much. I'm not a fan of the heads, really, but the fact that the main, bright, color isn't the cloak is so different for the Skitarii, that it's just really neat. Props all round!
Though I do like the helmeted head...

Thanks again everyone, your encouragement fuels my enthusiasm for painting more of this army soon.

swampyturtle wrote:I like what im seeing regarding the orgyn. How bad was the price difference, vs just buying the Destoryers

The Ogryn kit is $47, the Kataphron servirtors are $58. But one servitor kit comes with the parts to kitbash both a unit of breachers and destroyers. (Which I haven't yet done) All you need is to ebay some extra backpacks which I did for about $3 US per pair. It's not really a money saving effort though, it's all about the concept and aesthetic. I guess if you did the math I would have spent $155 to make a unit of Ogryn Destroyers and Breachers vs. $116 from GW's kits. So about $40 extra but well worth it in my mind.

I'm with you 100%, I never liked the bright red robes of the skitarii. It didn't even follow the looks of the rest of the army where cloth was black and armor was colorful. I painted half a box of Skitarii rangers with bright cloaks before I decided I hated the metallic armor they had and tried this instead.

It's not even that I don't like the red robes, because I do, but this is like a breath of fresh air in a sea of colorful cloaks.

I've never thought of headswaps like those on the Mechanicus dudes. It reminds me of the NCR Rangers from Fallout: New Vegas, in a very cool way. I think I might steal that at some point if I do some Admech allies for my Valhallans!

In addition to your spirited conversions, your paintjobs are also top notch. The use of turquoise is really cool too, pretty unusual as far as color schemes go.
