I get the feeling people hate them, and why is that? I quite enjoy the bits and the customization of the models and I enjoy painting human skin. The models have given me some great times experimenting with human skin tones and different shades with the amount of skin on the models.

I just like most everything about them, and don't get the sentiment against them.

The west is on its death spiral.

It was a good run.

Compared to the Cadians, sure. But compared to stuff like the Vostroyans, I'm a little fuzzy.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I have to admit that I love the Catachan feel. My color scheme is Red shirts, dark green pants, and black boots. I'mnot sure what it is about them that I love so much more than Cadians, butthey justscream cool to me. I do however use cadians as my vehicle crew.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

On moon miranda.

I never really was a huge fan. The concept and look never quite really jived with the greater 40k "feel" in a lot of ways (and having an army of Rambo's and Arnold's that breaks and runs more than any other army in the game doesn't help ), and the sculpts are, quite simply, awful. The detail is poor, the proportions are absurd, and nothing seems to quite "fit" right (e.g. weapons and hand or arms to torsos always look stuck-on rather than natural extensions).

Overall, they just feel really hamfisted in, like some dude at GW *really* liked Predator, Commando, and Rambo and just shoved them in, and then everyone else just continued with it out of inertia.

I have never seen an actual Catachan army in person, and precious few online, and never really a very large one. Most often I see them as stand-ins for cultists or zombies or something than as actual Catachans. I think more to the point, I've never seen someone actually buy a box of Catachans...ever.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I've always liked the gritty, travel-light Vietnam jungle fighter theme, but the 'army of Rambo's" thing really doesnt hold much weight nowadays (A cool 80's throwback, like glitzrock noisemarines and omega-man genestealer cults in purple limousines)

A less cartoonish catatachan force based on jungle-fighter special forces archetypes could really be something cool in the pantheon of imperial gaurd regiments. A bunch of real scrappy badasses who operate with non-regulation gear. Lightweight, limited armour, lots of camo, facepaint, foliage stuck into boonie hats, field modified vehicles and weapons, etc etc.

Loved the actual 'old' Catachans--the metal ones. Amazingly characterful models.

Of course, I also liked it when they had their own army rules, so it didn't seem weird that the guys with t-shirts had the same save as they boys in flak armor. Plus, the Catachan supplement with their Jungle Fighting rules was amazing! It let you play them like actual ambush specialists, so it make the models make even more sense--and since there weren't a huge number of sculpts, it was great that you had a relatively small model count army. No one needed to have four or five of the same sergeant!

Still think those models were amazing--if, of course, vastly inferior to the Praetorians!

My brother had some of the old metal catachans. He was glad when the cheaper plastics came out
Spoiler:
back then plastics were priced much cheaper than metals. Now there are a bunch of metal models which are cheaper than plastic counterparts!
He put a few of them together, but I could see his heart wasn't in to it (maybe because he generally didn't like assembly and preferred one piece metals, maybe because of the kit, I don't know).

I like all the old muti piece plastics because I get excited by the conversion opportunities to make up for any deficits in the its themselves. I guess that makes me a bit of a masochist ! :S

I loved using the metals as Orlock gangers, for expanded special and heavy weapon options.
