So I'm looking at trying my hand at WM again, local meta is starting to get tired of 40k and branching out. I have a few Cygnar models and was looking for some advice

Right now I have

Striker 1
Charger
lancer
Ironclad
Defender (magnatized to be a cyclone if I wanted)
Sentinel
ATGM
Black 13
squire
Journeyman Warcaster

I figure I'm off to a good start with what looks to be the auto-includes but wanting to add some actual infantry. Most likely a hunter warjack as well. The colossal is a bit out of the price reach atm. Trenchers look good, and with the coming rules update for them according to battle collage, they are looking even better. Any suggestions?

New edition is right around the corner, so any advice needs to take that into consideration, and we don't know all the changes yet.

But jacks are getting a boost and pp's spoilers so far are all positive if you ask me.

Yeah, there's a new edition incoming and we don't know all of the changes, but we DO know that they claim to be rebalancing every model. So current advice as to what figures are good is subject to extreme change.

My best advice would be to take the money you're planning on spending, and saving it up for a bit for the new edition. For all we know, the new edition could change so much of the game that anything you buy for a purpose right now, may no longer be useful in that role. But if you do want to pick up some stuff, the Archduke solo is a useful one from what I've seen, he brings some battle plans to help your units out. Sylis Wyshnayler is also a good option, and Jales, the Character JWC is pretty decent from having played against her.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Unless you know something about MKIII that I don't. None of those are Cygnar staples. Archduke is okay, but he is highly situational and even then there are better options, Sylis is almost never taken in Cygnar(can he even be taken by Cygnar? I've never seen it done) because the Squire is a better choice, and you can't take both the Squire and Sylis, Jakes is again okay but highly situational 90% of the time if you want a Junior Warcaster, the bob-standard Jr. is a better choice because he has Arcane Shield.

Try a couple of the Super Solo Warcasters like Stryker2, Caine1&2, or even Siege. They're not that much of an investment relative to the army and it'll give you play variety before the MKIII rules come out. Plus since they're casters you'll probably still play with them once the new rules are out.

You'll almost certainly want the Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Unit Attachment,
Reinholdt Gobber Speculator - he's $6, and is almost essential for playing Caine, Sloan, and to a lesser extent Siege
The hunter is a great warjack, and is my second favorite light(my first being the Minuteman but hold off on that model for a bit, it's kinda wonky)

As for infantry, it's kind of hard to suggest, though you can certainly grab the trenchers now. Though stay away from Stormblades/guard, Swordknights and precursors until after the rules come out unless you get a great deal(over 60%off), they're not good now and we don't know yet how they'll be in the new edition. You can probably get away with picking up Rangers and Tempest Blazers as those are solid models now and I doubt they'll get nerfed.

Thanks for the advice Cthulu. I looked for both the ATGMU UA and Reinholdt at my flgs, but sadly weren't there. I have had my eye on Caine and Siege for future lists as they both seem to go well with infantry.

But since buying a deck (mine has vanished) is a dumb idea and War Room is not selling them until the new one comes out anyways, I may stick to battlebox games till I'm solid on the ruleset.

Sylis can and should be taken by Cygnar. The free upkeep is insanely good. Arcane secrets can be useful, if youre running a blaster caster. Whilst the squire is nice, if you run any Haley, either Caine, Nemo1/2, Siege, any Stryker, or Blaize. The free upkeep is better than the three extra focus. Not to mention the range buff. The rule of thumb is, if you can take Sylis, you take Sylis.

Jakes is the best character journeyman out there. Energiser is always really nice, and Sidekick is a good buff. The normal journeyman has one use. To sit at the back without any jacks and upkeep Arcane shield.

It's only for a few more weeks, but the squire is better than Sylys for some casters. I'd rather have the extra focus for Siege than a free upkeep most of the time. And the increased control range extends his feat, mage sight and the range of his jacks. Also allows you to premeasure any shots with his gun.

In short, Sylys is better for some casters, but the squire is better for others.

You might want some more infantry as your army does seem to be very 'Jack heavy and Stryker only has 6 focus. But for now save, save and save again as, as the others have said, MK III is coming in about a month and everything is changing.
