I've been slowly gathering up Necron models on the cheap, to the tune of three monoliths, two night/doom scythes, a triarch stalker, and even some old scarabs and a spyder to go with them. I've got some pretty wild modelling ideas for them and most of them revolve around my decision for the core infantry. If you'll take a look at the attachment, I decided to go with a more humanoid body and legs paired up with an Anubis head to maintain that Egyptian look.

Now, the thing is this infantry base might be a little hard to pass off as a Necron dynasty; not impossible, but I'd probably have some explaining ahead of me, especially given that they're probably a head shorter than a 'true' Necron warrior. However, I've always been one to dabble in heresy, and I've always had a Dark Mechanicus itch, and I've been considering playing them up as some kind of Logician Cult that utilizes forbidden and xenos technology. I've seen this angle before on Necrons, but in these cases the vast majority of models were much more... well.. floating drones with arms and such that looked like they were never human in the first place.

I've kind of narrowed down the potential fluff to three main options
Necron Dynasty - Perhaps one of the long-lost, more obscure ones. I'd play up its leader as one of the more crazed ones from the long slumber, having risen to ply the galaxy and raid as an army of zombie-pirate-robots, which just sounds too cheesy to not do.
- Pros - We finally get a little more Xeno stuff going on in our group, and the conversion work on the vehicles I already have won't have to be quite as intense.
- Cons - The infantry may not quite look the part of Necron warriors, but I want any excuse to use them.
Logician Cult - This one is a little more straightforward. The army is the work of a madman using aforementioned forbidden and xenos technology, integrating his works into small populations of his devoted followers. This leads to the creation of forces possessed of self-mending capabilities just like the Necrons, and warp-infused weaponry that emulate guass effects.
- Pros - Lots more modelling opportunities, as well as a better justification for more human-sized models. I could especially have fun with overlord and crypteks, making them into rogue magi and priests, or even allying in LatD to bring in some plague zombies, justifying them as 'failed' creations.
- Cons - Lots of the heavier mod work gets pushed towards the vehicles. Not to mention; does anyone even know who the Logicians are in 40k? I only know about them because I've pored over the Dark Heresy books.
Dark Mechanicus - This is where I say 'sod it' to the Necron rules, and use the Mechanicum/Skitarii rules. My friend won't stop pushing this, but there is a case to be made.
- Pros - The infantry becomes even more justified, and gets a few neat options to go along with it. This option also unlocks Imperial Knights as a potential ally.
- Cons - The Necron vehicles? The spyder and scarabs? They all go in the bin. While I know three monoliths does not make a good list, I'd rather not feel like I bought them for no good reason. Additionally, I'm tired of fielding frail infantry. T3 with 4+ armor is not something that's gonna stay on the table long enough for me to feel justified in putting a lot of work into it.

Maybe someone can help me out with choosing between these? Will people care that my Anubis-headed humanoids are Necrons? Would I have to explain to every player who the Logicians are? Are Necron vehicles be so weak and worthless that I'd be better off scrapping them for Skitarii stuff?

Also! I need guns for these infantry. The kit they came with comes with many 'normal' looking guns, and no matter which route I take I want to go with something more alien or weird sci-fi. Thing is, I've scoured about every source I can think of, and nothing sells gun bits in the quantities I'd need them (we're looking around 40'ish). Anybody know a provider I don't?
