I've been looking to get one of these since the release of the plastic kit but can't decide on which variant to run. Has anyone tried them all and based on their performance, which would you recommend?

I run the Wrath Thirster personally... mainly for the duality of Ranged and Melee.

40k

Space Wolves - 1850

Age of Sigmar

Chaos - Khorne Bloodbound, Daemons
Order - Stormcast Eternals
Destruction - Beastclaw Raiders

I haven't tried them all but I use unfettered fury. The ranged attack can be brutal if it hits (and to my understanding, you don't have to charge the unit you shot, so win-win for flexibility).

I've also used Skarbrand a lot and he is bonkers. Love.

They have costed all of them pretty appropriately as far as I can tell. I would just pick your favorite sculpt and go with it.

Personally, I kit bashed and gave skarbrand the two axes meant for the wrath thirster and the unfettered fury thirster, and I kit bashed the D axe and gave it to my unfettered fury thirster as a 1 hand axe so that I can use him either as a normal thirster or a D thirster in 40k

I can attest to the grossness of Skarbrand. Only downside is he can't fly or move very quickly. Other than that he absolutely destroys! Run him with a pack of wrathmongers (or make at least one of them within 3"). They give +1 attack to ALL weapons on ALL models within 3". So that gives skarbrand's giant axe another attack! It can deal 16 wounds (8 wounds x2 hits) to a single target, effectively killing anything in the game in one-shot, if both hit and wound (pretty reliable). Plus, he gets the extra attack on his horde killing axe too, which is never a bad thing. His model looks awesome too

Insenate Rage - he need a good backup - Bloodsecrator and Wrathmongers for additional attacks because his damage (D6) is unpredictable. I remember a battle where i roll three "1" for damage in one turn.

Unfettered Fury - I can`t say much about him

Wrath of Khorne - as for me - best option (nice command ability, missile attack and re-roll to hit rolls vs monster and hero unit.

Skarbrand is something different. He is CC monster but without wings he`s quite slow fire-magnet There is also homerule in some shops which ban special characters.
