Hello everyone!

I've always love making scenery for wargames, especially warhammer 40k. I will use this thread to post my recent projects.Comments and questions are welcome.

The latest project I've just finished was a test to see if I could make realistic concrete crack. I bought MDF board and sculpted the detail.

welcome on board... nice start!
these slabs look really good...must´ve been a real pain to carve them in...these lines look very even and crisp...how did you get them that way?

Looks cool, however in my opinion it looks more like ceramic/marble tile then concrete.

After I drew the lines on the MDF with a sharpie, I took a metal ruler and started to carve the slabs. I tried a few different tools but in the end the one I liked the most was a slot screwdriver. For the cracks I needed something much smaller but still sharp enough. An exacto knife was too slim, but a tack of all things worked great for me.

Hey everyone!
This is another of my previous test projects I did a little while ago. I'm planning to make more of these in the future but since I'll need multiples of these for the next project, I'll need to learn how to cast these.

Wait...how did you carve those lines in the mdf? You did those nice straight lines with a screw-driver? That is a fantastic effect, and hopefully something I can replicate...with less "spend 3 weeks hand carving 100+ straight lines with a screw-driver in the evenings"

Screw driver...eh? Now that sounds even more painful, but I can picture that works quite well!

The bookshelf looks super as do these books! Gotta try that myself too...May I suggest some new way for making rivets? I am currently only working with acrylic nail art beads...you can get them super cheap from China and they're way smaller than anything you could make by a hole punch...

Probably a hobby knife?

When carving the lines I put a ruler on the line I want as a guide to keep the screw driver in a straight line. It usually takes about 3-4 passes to have enough of a groove to keep going without the need of the ruler. And you're spot on with your estimate, it did take me 3 weeks

Here's an update to what I've been working on.
[Thumb - IMG_4440 [100736].JPG]
I've been working on a hair in the past few days

[Thumb - IMG_4441 [100735].JPG]
I've been trying to get a "perfect" cabinet that I will recast but I've not been satisfied with the results.

[Thumb - Untitled.jpg]
Which led me to fiddling with 3D software to get it just right!

[Thumb - IMG_4442 [101292].JPG]
Look at what just came in today!

Hey! So I've been experimenting with my new mold making materials!

I couldn't insert the resin fast enough so I had to enlarge the hole

[Thumb - IMG_4463 [120097].JPG]
What came out was in general, a disaster! Inperfections in the mould, it says it doesnt require degaussing but trust me you want to degause it!

[Thumb - IMG_4465 [120096].JPG]
But I hate to let go to waste material!

Those book shelves look awesome. I love the how you saved the miscasts and made them into something totally awesome.

Any idea how you can improve the casting?

Too bad the casting went bad, but your efforts have not been for naught...that small diorama looks amazing! I'd just add more burnt marks to the broken shelves to justify the destruction on them.

Also ...better luck with the next casting process!

Hey everyone!

So while I'm waiting for the equipment I ordered to be able to make better molds gets here I decided to dig out some of my old White dwarfs! I say old but I've actually bought very few of the newer white dwarfs. With it returning to the monthly cycle and their facebook page asking what would like to see more in the magazine, I started to go through what made the old white dwarf so good.

My favorite issue has to be 267!

Looking through my collection I quickly found that the older style of listing the content was way more efficient. The content was grouped by game systems, instead of the feature.

They often included some WIP articles that I found very interesting. They routinely put rejected sketches in there (which were pretty cool for possible conversions ideas)

I really loved they had "mini" (3 pages) articles about heroes / villains.

They have mini stories included in the magazines, this one was the attack on terra!

However my absolute favorite articles were the Index Astartes! The fluff, the color guide and the art was all amazing! 6 pages of quality content!

They also included ridiculous awesome projects with multiple shots! I want to see more of these scenic tables!

After going through this huge piles of white dwarf, it started to dawn on me the further back I went, the longer it took for me to go through each magazine since I was reading the genuinely interesting articles and looking at all the art. I really hope we return to the glorious days of white dwarf comes September.

Hmmmm a knock at the door?

I've finally got my paint tank. I'm going to convert it into a pressure tank so I can pressure cast.

I started the conversion by removing the mixer and paint inlet. Adding elastic for grip helps a lot!

Testing all the fittings.

Added Teflon tape

I did all the fittings except the one that was sealed by the factory, I had to reseal it.

Testing my vacuum. After like 8 hours, it lost about 4 psi. Considering I'm using to degas mold for about 10 minutes, it will do.

Testing pressure.

I'm still looking for a safety valve for 60/70/80 psi and a quick disconnect to switch between vacuum and pressure. However is it functional and looking forward to use it!

Hello everyone!

So I've been experimenting with my pressure chamber. I created a new mold, using my vacuum pump to degas the mold. The finish is considerably smoother.

I created a 3 part mold to allow easier removal of the bookshelf.

Currently I can cast at around 90 psi, however the resin has a pot life of 3 min and I can't get the pressure that high in under 3 min. Looking into possibly getting a bigger reservoir tank to allow me to build up pressure before poring. However the copy is very accurate and imperfections only noticeable under extreme scrutiny.

The one with a bubble is easily fixed by just rotating the mold a few seconds. The one with the hole in the back I made by accident

I also spend some time painting the miniature that came in the new white dwarf!
