Hopefully that title is acceptable. This has nothing to do with the Army or whores. Just curious how many of you out there are like me. Always wanting to switch to a new army. Not because you want the latest and greatest but because you are easily bored with collecting your current army and the thought of building and painting something new is exciting.

So you often find yourself with half built armies or you collect a bunch of stuff and then sell it so you can buy something else and the cycle repeats itself over and over. How did you overcome your lack of faithfulness and loyalty to your first choice? Did you just hop around until you found something that had a grasp so tight on you that you even though you wanted to switch you often found yourself coming back to them?

Can't say I'm like that. I started with Tau, but switched to IG shortly after. Been with the Guard since. I suppose within the Guard I've gone through 3 iterations of model style and general play style, but its always been Guard.

Started with GK, thinking I was going to get away with playing a cheap army. Jumped over to Sisters to play one I enjoy instead. Got tired of the wait and ended up with Skitarii... but no, I'm sticking with these for good. I always know when I've found something I will stick with, and this is it.

I started with catachans when I was about 12. Found it difficult to fully get into the hobby and sold them. Then I bought a box of fire warriors and on off collected them in my mid teens. Came back to it in my mid 20s and Im actually getting games and devoloping my Tau army. Still Im fighting the itch to collect a second army, maybe something imperial.

Dont get me wrong I like my Tau but variation is nice. Im resolved to finish painting what Ive bought so far before I move onto anything else though. Its tough

Collected lots.
Got Blood Angels with Shield of Baal.
Converted them to Emperor's Children.
Collected lots of CSM.
Decided I like Blood Angels again.
Collected lots of BA.

Side projects for heavy conversions are Harlequins, Inquisition and Orks.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

I know your problem. The itch is always there and I've given in a lot of times now.
I have no real solution for you, my stuff keeps piling up. As soon as I have moved into our new home, I plan to work through it, get painting done, etc.
Only problem is: I already have the next 3 AoS armies planned out in my head, while there are tons of SM stuff to build, ogres to paint and my Solar Auxilia has only one squad built at the moment, while the rest of the army rests in pieces.

Ive played every army except guard, though i think Nurgle Daemons may make an honest man of me

Unless they find out about my Warmachine/Hordes side action, that is...

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so

I'm quite happy to say I'm not an Army Whore. Haven't ever been one - thankfully (my wallet thanks me). I started, as most kids in the mid 90's with a couple boxes of Space Marines.

Later when I began the actual game I switched over to Eldar and haven't looked back since. I've quit playing 40K (about a dozen years back) but collecting Eldar has recurred again recently.

I feel quite fortunate that no other force really appeals to me. I like the books, the fluff etc., but have little interest in collecting something else. I'll probably pick up some nids as my group is planning some nid-wave games, and it never hurts to have some creepy aliens for a variety of other sci-fi games, skirmish games etc.

I feel you OP, I constantly look at other armies and go "Ohhh I wanna try some thing out with that" and make a conversion or build a huge list in my head. Probably why I have a few models from like 4 armies that I don't even play

I just came back to the hobby and I decided on Imperial guard at first. Then I realized something about the Space Marines was calling my name and so I sold them and picked up Blood Angels. I have about 1250 points so far in various stages of assembly and have 3 of my 5 tactical marines painted.

Then I saw KDK and was like man I really like those models especially those Bloodthirsters. I enjoy armies that get up close and personal maybe I should play them instead.

Up to this point I have resisted the urge but not sure how much longer I can hold out lol.

I know that part of my problem is I love converting and building cool models. So when I see cool looking stuff from other armies I want them which usually leads to me wanting a new army entirely.

Silly question which I think applies...for those who are army whores: do you paint the armies completely? Do you finish the armies you start?

As someone who will not play with unpainted armies/figures etc., this helps immensely...I don't think "oh, I could buy some of those cheap on eBay and throw them on the table", it becomes "do I want to invest hundreds of hours in painting/finishing another force".

Having a few jumpers in my group, I can safely say that no. They most certainly do not. Well, most of them. I'm sure there are some that do, but I've never seen one.

For me it isn't so much a matter of wanting to play with a new army. I too hate playing without painted models even though I do it as I am not going to turn down games with buddies just because I haven't finished painting. For me the biggest thing is wanting to paint and assemble those new models. The issues is I usually end up then wanting an entire army to match the models I just picked up and well yea you can see how that goes.

The one thing I would say I benefit from is I often sell whatever I do not want anymore to get the new stuff. So I usually am not left with tons of stuff sitting around un used. I use Dakka or Bartertown to make trades when I get the itch but yea. It isn't easy that is for sure. I can say that my armies though do always end up getting painted.

Whores doesn't really make sense.
Sluts seems more appropriate.

But yeah it's called shiny model syndrome and we all get it to some degree it's just that some of us are better at keeping in in our pants than others.

You are correct. I actually almost used sluts in the title instead of whores.

I probably would be, but I've circumvented the issue with collecting all flavours of Martians.
There's so much the Taghmata, Cult, & Skitarii can do, it's possible to actually play a mock of any army I fancy. 7 months in and I'm still trying new stuff out of my 3 codices.
Although, incidentally, I've managed to ensure I actually have 6 separate factions to play; Some of my Robots and Tech-priests are actually Skaven, all of my Adsecularis are Skellymen from a Tomb kings Battalion, and I use up my leftover Ranger & Vanguard guns on Dryads, so whilst effectively staying true to one army, I'm still able to play many.

Pretty much down to fortunate happenstance. Had I not picked up that box of Skitarii rangers back in december, I wouldn't be surpised if I'd have a nifty collection of different Start Collecting boxes by now.
Similiar story with WoW; first pick was a Shaman, happens that they're a Jack-of-all-trades class, subsequently not an altaholic.

Not sure if it is so much a matter of better or worse as much as it is proper noun usage. Since whores generally refer to women paid for sex and a slut is just promiscuity it would be more fitting in this regard.

No, not in 40K. It's always Nurgle for me, even though that in itself is 3 factions so far (CSM, Daemons, Knight). It's something else with ST attack wing and lotr though, since the armies are much cheaper there.

Maybe some day I will find true love. Until then o suppose I will keep slutting it up until somethings grabs me and won't let me go.

I'll probably pick up the Khorne starter box then haha!

Speaking of dark eldar when I started back in 99 that was my first choice. I remember mypm taking me to the local GW and letting me pick a box. I was standing in line with a box of eldar guardians and at last second changed to Dark Eldar Warriors. Was one of the best choices I ever made. Haven't been back to them ever since. Maybe that's where my heart is.

I have at least 1000 points for a mono-god army build from each of the two chaos codexes, one more army for each of the remaining traitor legions, one for each flavour of power armor, one for each RETRO flavour of power armor, more nids than I can count, and enough to assemble at least 1000 points of every single other army except SoBs.

I really need to get some SoBs. Gotta catch em all!

It's not so much that I chop and change, and I definately don't sell, but I do have a bunch of armies. Thousand Sons will always be my main, but playing different armies is fun, plus I tend to get really sick of painting the same colours and doing the same basing over and over and over, so that makes it really easy to switch armies when something starts getting stale, even if it's just putting the TSons down and grabbing out my Iron Warriors.

I do make an effort to finish painting all my stuff, but until recently, that's been a losing battle. I've generally tended to sit with about 1/3 finished, 1/3 built but unpainted and 1/3 still sitting in a box, though recent efforts have moved that to around 50% painted/40% assembled/10% still NIB.

Still have a bunch of stuff that I'd like to do, but I'm trying to keep that under control until my backlog is sorted at least a little bit better.

I always hop from army to army nothing can keep me interested, any thing 40k marine I try I get so bored with, everyone in my area is doing eldar so they got shelved, 30k blood angels is something I really wanna do but they dont have any sort of forge world support atm.

I've started the hobby with Necrons back in 4th and im still doing them now so I've always had a one main I guess, thankfully my necrons dont mind sharing the shelf with my one night stand armies.

I used to have a horrendous habit of that. I get bored rather easily. I've stopped doing it in the last couple of years, but I still keep starting new projects. Such as 6mm IG, 6mm Nids, A new Eldar Army...

Luckily, those projects tend to stay small.

I'm pretty loyal. I sometimes branch out into a complete mini army and finish it up as a side project. Having half done things makes me feel a bit stressed.
I have friends with 15 armies, all of which are built, and I'm just sat here with IG and some daemons.

I think GW probably depends on our short attention spans and wanting to constantly change, though.

I came back to this hobby after a long break about 6 months ago, and initially thought, it would be refreshing to start again with completely new army. But because I still had all my old minis (about 2000pt 2nd ed Eldar) and I simply love the new&fresh Harlequins, so I settled with them. There is a lot of catching up to make after all those years (all that FW stuff, mmmm) and I have already started to gather materials to make an Exodites addition to my collection.

But said that, I'm VERY glad, that my wife got into this hobby with Tyranids, so I get to work a lot on those space locusts - they have really great stuff to model and convert. And they keep my hunger for another faction at manageable levels
