For those of you that are interested, the latest financial report can be found here

As someone who has limited understanding of this stuff I can still draw a basic conclusion that they made less than last year but they are still very much in profit and still offering dividends to shareholders. So while they are declining they are not going anywhere anytime soon.

What are your thoughts?

This is the equivalent of GW not really seeing any changes in their financial situation. Nothing spectacular, but going strong.

Looks like the profits from royalties brought them to a better position than last year. All that IP selling is paying off.

This bit's interesting though:

We made progress in what was another busy and rewarding year. We started the financial year off with a huge product launch;
Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, one of the biggest changes we've ever made to one of our core universes. Our design to manufacture was
outstanding, over-delivering in terms of original concept art to final manufactured models, producing some of the best models we've ever
made. The simplified rules, supporting the models for those who like to play, made it much easier to get started. We learnt some
valuable lessons during the year on how to deliver product system changes on this scale and as we released more of the range in the
second half of the year, we finished the year with sales of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar at a higher rate than Warhammer has enjoyed for
several years.

Seems AoS was more of a hit than I thought.

It was pointed in the other thread though that its likely anything that was once sold under the Fantasy banner will now be caught under the AoS banner, meaning any purchases made by Fantasy players on their way out would count towards AoS sales.

Plus, Fantasy sales were rather low before AoS, so having better sales doesn't mean a whole lot unless we have the actual numbers.

Overall, their sales of their main product lines didn't grow, but they're bringing back a lot of things we've wanted for some time, namely the SG division. Hopefully this works out for them and they continue to support SG in the future.

Sorry didn't realise there was another thread on this.

way down in their review of the year section they said this,

The simplified rules, supporting the models for those who like to play, made it much easier to get started

They really stick to the idea that most people don't actually play their games!

There's a thread in the general discussion area for everything, but we've almost always had a thread in the 40k section in addition to the one in Discussions every time the report comes out.

And yeah, they really love the idea most of their clientele are collectors. I don't have numbers either way to prove or disprove that notion, but it does seem odd.

Fffffuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!

£50 for a Get Started box, £50 BRB, £??? for modelling supplies, £??? for table and terrain, £25-£35 for a codex, and generally the need to spend £20-£30 for a box of troops choice.

A minimum of £145 right there, if you're using household items for terrain, have a free supply of glue and don't bother painting.

Not to mention having to navigate through a bewildering array of other expensive products, all of whom claim to be completely necessary to play 40k "properly".

Followed by hundreds more pounds to get a 1000-1750 point army, followed by a 100% increase in expenditure when the next edition invalidates your entire army.

This is clearly a company that has to focus on profit over all else. They are convinced of their models being the sum total of their target audience user experience over the concept of producing a game.

All of this is as you'd expect from a PLC and I can't fault them for it as long as they continue to make money as their attitudes and practices will only change when their profits do. Somewhere there is a disconnect between their idea of their audience and us (the gamers). I really wish we could find out more of their sales per line.

I however am happy that they continue to be profitable and hope it continues because i'm heavily invested in their product despite how crappy the game sometimes seems.
