Subject: Question About Inquisitors
|
|
Hardened Veteran Guardsman
|
Hi all,
Played a couple games this weekend with my Inquisitors and struggled when I rolled poorly on my daemon powers, so I need another weapon on him that allows him to tackle things with a 2+ when I roll badly (often) so can I take a daemon blade and a power fist? And choose which weapon I attack with?
Thanks Berserker

Well, my question is why is your Inquisitor your anti-2+ save? What are you using him with in your army because honestly, Inquisitors are not a great choice for melee power.

It's a fluffy army so he needs to be good at melee

You can actually take double daemonblade, there's no rule saying you can't. So taking two rolls on the daemonblade stats come out quite interesting and in some cases downright deadly.

2x Daemon Blades because if your going to go heretical might as well go the whole hog. You can take both a Daemon Blade and PF but why take a PF when you can take a Nemesis Daemon Hammer for the same points cost. Inquisitorial squads are generally not the best at taking on 2+ armor while they are quite decent at taking on 3+ armor.
Yes you can choose which weapon you are using. Also be aware that certain benefits on the Daemon Blades just require you to have on your person to gain the benefit (such as the ones that modify your inquisitor's stats or special rules) so rolling Unholy Speed on you Daemon Blade makes you have more attacks even if your swinging with a Hammer/PF.

But if you really want him to be good in melee then use the Demon hammer or go dual Demon Blades.

@curran in terms of war gear he runs with daemonblade and bolt pistol, in terms of retinue he has a xenos Inquisitor with nades and a bunch of flagellants and a priest
Is there a difference between the PF or TH other than appearance? And I believe I will run both kinds to see which is better

Thats why you take TWO Daemonblades....
(And if you roll stuff like the "+3 Attacks" you dont have to use the weapon to get the buff)

A Power Fist doubles your strength, a Thunder Hammer is straight up S8 as I recall, and it also reduces any survivors (ha!) to WS & I 1 in the turn after they get hit; a Thunder Hammer will also automatically give a Crew Shaken (?) result on any successful hit against a vehicle in addition to any other effects.
Can't really comment on the loadout for your Inquisitor, all mine are statted up for 4th/5th Edition with Codex: Witchhunters and Codex: Daemonhunters.

Thunderhammers are x2 strength just like Power Fists. Same goes for Daemonhammers.

Ah, my mistake. They do still have the extra rules though, re reducing people's WS&I, and shaking vehicles, right?

Think so. The rule is Concussion but I don't know it well enough since usually whatever gets clobbered by a thunder hammer is deader than Horus.

Usually. Not always. It's more frequently used against vehicles rather than figures though. Anything big and ugly enough to survive usually has a low I or hits at step 1 anyway.

Thanks for all the responses guys, think I'm going to go with the Daemonblade and Daemon Hammer as I think the modelling possibilities are promising!
Just as a side note, wanting to get some crusaders to add to my Henchman warbands and wondering what models to get? I've asked at my local club and was given the idea for Chaos warriors from fantasy with the chaos symbols filed off.
Also ministorum priests.. are empire priests the way to go and convert or am I missing a clear alternative without getting an actual priest model..
Thanks again

Henchmen can be absolutely anything. A bits box delve is a good start. I have Henchmen made from Guardsmen and Free Company, for example.
Priests - try mixing Imperial Guard parts (probably Catachan Command Squad) and Flagellants from the Warhammer Empire range.
Crusaders - GW still sells (AFAIK) the two official Crusader models, but anything with a big shield and sword will work. Chaos Warriors mixed with Space Marine purity seals would indeed be a good option!

I have plenty of purity seals and spare parts!
I have already used flagellants for arco-flagellants but I have heads and some arms
Interesting thanks for the input

Also worth looking at eBay as well, for the old OOP Henchmen and Cherubs and things. Some bargains to be had too!

For priests I literally just glued a spare chainsword onto one of the pole weapons of the Flagellants.
Cheapest and most effective conversion I ever did.
Empire Greatswords works wonders as Crusaders, just shore up some big slab-shields for them and everything's jello. If they're a tad expensive, Empire State Troops/Free Guild Guard can be a cheaper alternative, although their shields are on the dinky side (plus that sprue gets you a powder keg monkey you can probably use as a Jokaero with some conversions).

Ooh, Greatsword Crusaders! Now there's an idea. Plasticard shields (or even just cereal packet card) and Cadian arms with swords would be cool.

At one point I wanted to use Saurus Warriors for Crusaders allied with a Xenos Inquisitor.
She's pretty Radical if you couldn't tell

HERESY! Excellent and delicious HERESY, but HERESY all the same!
To be fair my radical Xenos Inquisitor cavorts with all sorts of fiends... but they're still nothing on the bunch of strange and wonderful creatures my Dark Eldar Archon's hired to keep him safe from his own Kabal!

I use scratch built Robobrains as a proxy for my Ordo Xenos Inquisitors Jokero. After all, why would a strict anti-alien Inquisitor sully his warband with filthy Xenos?
