My major project next year is going to be Eldar Corsairs. I think the rules for them in IA11 - 2 look some of the most fun and flavorful of all 40k armies.

(It's crazy that FW have had the conversion kits 'temporarily' unavailable almost the whole time since IA11 was updated though! Talk about an own goal)

I'm looking to run 2 coteries, 1 as Skyburners and the other as Hate Bringers.

3 squads of 5 Reavers in each all with jetpacks.

My current thinking is that I'd give the 3 bands in the skyburners coterie 2 fusion guns each, and leave the other 3 dudes with ccws and their brace of pistols. Have them DS in, and hit vehicles and monstrous creatures the turn they land.

Then give the 3 hate bringer bands lasblasters and 2 blasters each. Have them start in cover and then jump out and hit vehicles from the front (with lance) and infantry. They will all have 18" range and as their lasblasters will probably be shooting at units in cover, I figure the extra range and shot makes them a preferable choice for that role.

My first question is, what do you think of that thinking and loadout?

My second is, does Reckless Abandon work after overwatch?

(The rest of my list is a Baron with shadowfield, jetpack and haywire grenades joining 1 Reaver unit in each coterie.
A Prince with jetpack, shadiwfield, void sabre and Cegorach's Rose; a lvl 3 Void Dreamer with jetpack and shadowfield; both in a unit of 5 malevolents with jetpacks and no other upgrades;
2 Warp Hunters, 3 Hornets with pulse lasers and a nightwing)

Cheers

RAW Reckless Abandon does function after Overwatch. However, there was a Q&A session with FW on facebook where they stated that it didn't. Not an official FAQ, but definitely confirmation of RAI.

Personally, I think Corsairs are competitive enough without that cheesy little tactic so I won't be using it.

Oh, and I've come up with a semi-expanded Shadow War idea and need some feedback! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/726439.page

No worries

Worth remembering if your opponent rocks up with 3 Wraithknights of an Invisi-star of some sort though. I'd have no qualms using it against them

As for your army list, I'd say that's a solid starting point (not having played with them yet myself!).

The Sky Burners drop-Fusions is a solid tactic. I'm not certain how well Blasters synergise with Reckless Abandon, although I suppose the extra 6" range gives you a degree more tactical flexibility.

One of the things I was thinking of is to take the standard Fusion Reavers in a Sky Burners Cotorie. Then, take a Hate Bringers cotorie with 3 squads of Ghostwalkers with a Fusion Gun each and infiltrate them in the enemy's deployment zone. Then, zip around harassing the enemy on turn 1 until your Sky Burners drop in and bring the hurt

6 squads of Fusion Guns zipping around with jetpacks might be enough target saturation that your Sky Burners might survive past the turn they drop

If your going to be using a lot of infantry, think about balstrikes with dark lances as well. 5 dark lances on relentless jet-packs that can walk into line of sight, then jump back into cover can be very good. Not that it would compete with a lynx or a warp hunter... but I like them when I run them.

Some really interesting suggestions, thank you both!

Ynneadwraith, what would you equip the rest of the squad with? Lasblasters or snipers?

War, would you run them as 5 man squads, or take a couple of extra bodies with say, lasblasters, for ablative wounds?

Cheers

I'd run them with Brace of Pistols. They're going to be in 12" anyway to use the Fusion Gun so 8 S4 pseudo-rending shots is a nice backup punch. Plus, having the +1A lets you wade into combat to finish off weakened units as well.

Personally, the only place I'd really take Lasblasters is on ablative wounds on Balestrikes. The extra range might mean they could do something in an emergency if your squad's going to be hanging back.
