For most of the narratives that have come out recently I've been kinda "meh" about them. Nothing really excited me. But as a ardent guard player, I'm actually really excited with the Fall of Cadia. So much so that it's the first of these narrative books that I've pre-ordered and am anxiously awaiting getting. It didn't hurt that it had that awesome looking female Inquisitor. For once, I'm actually excited again about the game and want to get off my butt and start building and painting up the new guard and ally army I've been buying bits for over the past couple of years.

Of course I still have my reservations when it comes to building, all I have to do is look at or think back to my first guard army under their 3rd edition codex from over 10 years ago when I first got into the game. I look at my Veteran unit that, although they lost to him in the end, held off a Chaos Daemon for 4 turns thanks to their cyberneticlly enhanced Sergent who had been awarded an Honorific Imperialis and wielded his trademark power sword. Or I could look at my (custom made) Rough Riders who were armed mostly with shotguns except for one unit that had 2 flamers, 2 units that would often lead the charge into the lines of enemy troops, delivering a massive and devastating blow with their initial charge. Remember that time they scatter a unit of Chaos Marines with that initial charge (I'm realizing, many of my opponents in those days liked playing Chaos). I don't like building now when I feel a change to the rules isn't to far off because what I build could become obsolete as those units I mentioned are. There are other examples of units I've put a lot of time into building and painting, only for them to no longer be valid or to lose so much effectiveness. I just recently build a couple of Valkyries and before I started I thought I'd do one with the option of 2 snipers instead of the side bolters, only to realize that it wasn't a valid choice any more.

So for now, I think I'll orginize my bits and get them ready and use the Fall of Cadia as a guide for building. They wouldn't put something in that book if it's going to be overwritten or replaced in the next handful of months. Right?

It's going to be so sad when the book gives a bunch of stuff for space marines and the IG get some weak formation that nobody will play, and all your hopes are crushed.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

To be fair on GW, a lot of their newer releases haven't been half bad: as a chaos player I have been reasonably happy with Curse of the Wulfen, Traitor's hate, Wrath of Magnus and Traitor legions. Who knows, guard might catch a break in this campaign.

Optimism!

That is the first book of the campaign.

Nothing for you on this first installment of the Fall of Cadia. Kinda weird that in a campaign on your home world, you wont get any love, but thats 40k for you. In the GrimDark of the far future, IG will have no love (and neither will Orks, DE or Nids apparently).

But Necrons will get something, so yay?
