JediRaptor's Saints of Revelation

Hey all, I wanted to set this up for a couple of reasons. First, I love this format, and was inspired by looking at some of the others that have done this. Secondly, I feet that if I have a set place to display the army, it will drive me to finish a playable force sooner rather than "eventually." I am hopefully going to update this frequently as I get squads and pieces finished, but for now, there isn't going to be much here. Thanks for taking a look. JD

Here is a list that I made in ten minutes, because I decided on Tuesday night that if I can get it all put together and painted by Saturday, I'm going to head up to a Tournament...we'll see how it works...1850 points from scratch, with a heavily converted figure to boot!!!

Unit Photos

Well, I've got some pics finally of my list I'm working on, due to the awesomeness of my camera, I've noticed a couple places I need to touch up. And I still have to decal the Tac Squad, and matte out the decals on the others, but I wanted to get some stuff on here, just 'cause.

Why I Started This Army

I started playing as the Wolves back in '92, and that was all I knew until after third edition came out and I started fiddling with some Tau. As time went on I really wanted to paint something without an already set up "rules set" for what they were supposed to look like. I was able to do that a bit with the Tau, but really wanted something more. I first thought Chaos, and started purchasing a force, but soon realized that it was almost too free. I realized that it wasn't a totally empty palette that I wanted, but the freedom to use whatever colors I wanted, but with structure. "Well Gee" I thought, Space Marines were made for that. So I started thinking about what I wanted to do. I liked the idea of something dark toned, as to me, the majority of Marine Chapters scream "SHOOT ME" with their colors. I had an initial idea of using the brand new Dark Angel figures(they had just come out) because the robed bodies were really awesome looking, and the monastic look led to me wanting "Revelation" in the title. Its lends to monastic or religious imagery, plus its got armaggedon... I of course was looking for more of a name than "Revelation," so I started putting all sorts of animals and colors on either side of it, to find what sounded right. Well, living on the Gulf Coast I have become a fan of the New Orleans Saints, and one Sunday, watching a game, I just strung together, Saints of Revelation, and lo and behold, things started makings sense from there. I could use the Football team's colors, Black and Gold, that would give me the dark look I wanted....plus the added bonus that it came with a build in emblem, the fleur de lis, which really kept with everything I wanted to do. It also meant I didn't have to try to freehand a chapter symbol, as there are plenty of fleur de lis' around. I started playing with some extra marines I had lying around until I got it how I wanted it, and then started working.

Now somehow during this whole process, I got it in my head that I was going to make the entire chapter. I think the release of Apoc had something to do with it, so now, I have what I call my lifelong project, an entire chapter of Space Marines. I have started coming up with their history and fluff, but I know that here isn't the place.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my ramblings, and hope you enjoy my Chapter as I work on it.

Thanks, JD
