in this article i'll tell what i do with my guardsmen in most 750pt games

deployment- i try and go first as much as possible (especially in dawn of war) because it gives me first turn which is normally good for me. what i do is take a squad of veterans and put them in a ruin or building on my side of the table and deploy a platoon as to the other along with a command squad. if im playing the sentinel(armoured) and leman russ (battle tank) i tend to deploy them close to my veterans.

turn1(if i go first)- i will keep evrything where it is and maybe move the leman russ out a little bit so it can see almost the whole table. i usally order all the units i can with the "incoming" order which should hopefully give most units a two plus cover save because they're hiding in ruins. Then i would use the leman russ to take out transports or a fast vheicle on the same edge of the table as my platton, usally i fire the plasma cannon on the sentinel at a tank and i would also use up the hunter killer missile because it might be the only chance to use it. After the enemy makes there turn but will probably have to put up with the cover saves.

turn 1(oponent goes first)- after the enemies turn i've probbably lost a few peices but it won't matter to much because my veterans stay where they are and the platton charges up (usally its the left flank) and attempt to rapid fire whilst fire support deals with the squads they need help defeating or might make a large problem, even a vetern squad would help if they're in rangge of the opponent.

turn2- (if i go first)- by now only a few men have died so i do what step one sugests.

turn 2-(if oponent goes first)- now you're getting in position move your platton towards the side of the board but keep them moving towards the enemy. After that use everything that can fire to shoot at the enemies on the same side of the board as the veterans (making it look like you're going to attack that side

turn 3- (if i go first)- do step to (might have slightly more men than if you went second )

turn 3-(if opponent goes first) hopefully the oponent moved to the side of you're veterans ,move you're plattoon straight fowardand try and rapid fire on the concentraition of enimeis whilst finishing off anything on the platoon side.

turn 4- (if i go first) by now the platton would have lost squads but heres what to do, charge towards the nearest enemy but make sure you rapid fire instead of combat, hopefully this has forced you're enemy into a corner so move everything towards it.

turn 4- )(if oponent goes first) by now you should have forced the enemy into a corner and he will try and find a way out by charging at you're platton but all you need to do is move everything towards them (exept maybe the leman russ) unleash all you can on him and hopefully hes dead

turn 5- (if you go first) do what number four just said but hopefully you have more men and can therefore hold him up in combat, buying time for other units to move towards the enemy.

turn 5- (if oponent goes first) its simmple just fire everything if he's survived this long

turn 6- (if you go first) do the same as in turn 5

and thats my small game tactics
