How do!

I’m gonna go ahead and assume that by the time you’ve read this, you’ll have already seen Heresy is getting a lot of new Custard Toys in plastic. From your basic Custards, to Flying Bananas, Shiny Contemptors and three Grav Tanks.

But…you may have missed this wee nugget tucked away in the associated Warhammer Community article.

We’ve dropped a few hints that some of these models are also perfect for using in Warhammer 40,000 and it’s entirely true. A rules update for the Adeptus Custodes is set for later this year. But several of these new miniatures are already perfectly suitable to represent current units in Warhammer 40,000.

So, new 40K Custards Rules coming later this year (as we’re only on day 3586937 of January, that’s quite a window). Please manage your own expectations beyond that confirmation? But given they’ve confirm at least the infantry are going to be dual system? I’d expect at least some of the other Heresy Plastics to show up.

I’d bet almost certainly the Contemptors. But honestly? I think I’d be a bit disappointed if the Grav Tanks don’t also show up. And the Jump Pack troops.

It also leaves a significant time period for Heresy to get a second batch, like the Telemon Dread.

Fed up of Scalpers? But still want your Exclusives? Why not join us?

Given that right now everything for Custodes in Horus Heresy has Matched Play-legal rules for 40k, this is probably a bad sign. There's nothing to possibly add at this point - only remove.

What about Sisters? They still have some wiggle room. We haven't seen a plastic transport for them.

And what of the Rhino, Dreadnought and Land Raider?

There's still hope.

Sisters need some hope. A lot of hope. New stuff looks good, but it’s useless to me without sisters update as well.

They said the whole range is getting an update, and Sisters are in that range.

Wait…they do? Like the Grav Tanks?

Genuine question, as not familiar with them in 40K. Legends, sure. But matched play?

Things like the grav tanks are listed as Imperial Armor, not Legends. They're fully legal, even in tournaments. Heck, I don't think you can run Custodes on the tournament scene with less than two Calladius Grav-Tanks. Custodes don't even have Legends units.

This does make me a bit worried about the "standard" Contemptor Dreadnought and the Land Raider. If those go away many players will be PISSED.

That's not true. My Kharon (sp?) transports for the Sisters don't have 40k rules. :(

I wont personally lament the loss of Golden Rhinos and Land Raiders for Custodes. I always thought they didnt fit Custodes aesthetically. If they get replaced by hovertanks, the army will end up looking much more distinctive vs. other Imperial armies. As they frankly should

It'll be interesting to see which Sisters options are included in the new talons Liber, as usually that implies plastic support in the next year or two.

Perhaps the Kharon will be in there, perhaps there's other new units/wargear instead.

No reason they can’t have both. And there’s no guarantee everything is coming to 40K.

The wording is suggestive more of the new plastic kits will be usable (and I assume they mean in the Codex), but that doesn’t mean all.

Hence I strongly encourage everyone to manage their own expectations.

If it is indeed everything? I could justify adding Custards to my growing Heresy collection. Not only can I ally them in to my Dark Angels, but especially in plastic they can be a cost effective whole army. Doubly so if I can just port the whole lot over to 40K should the mood take me.

I wonder how much this will cost to make the switch....

But plastic Custodes Dreadnoughts and Tanks.... I've wanted them for so long... I almost bought crappy 3d prints...

I'm going to have to build a new Valoris and Christopher Walken, as their old models won't fit in with the new guys...

Argh.

I have a soft spot for the Kharon, it looks delightfully like something taken out of Flash Gordon or similar pulpy source material.

It would probably also work pretty well as a plastic kit that builds two variants, say a light battle tank in addition to the APC, as just leaving of the really distinct prow coverings and replacing the cupola with something more substantial could make the alternative build pretty visually distinct in silhouette without needing much sprue space.

But we can’t use those. I would actually be happy enough if we could use those, and the other grav tanks for the imperium. But I do think GW is stuck in a someday we will update that part of the army and we want to sell new things then.

I was being a bit sarcastic because they both look terrible :p.

They do look like something the imperium would make for space marines though.

But currently I think the sisters side is mostly unplayable, so I would take anything.

So I'm assuming that the TEQ and Jetbikes won't carry over to 40k since HH has different versions exclusive to them. What about Wardens then?

Or the Sagittarius, with their cool bolters.

I wonder if the old models will be kept in rotation for 40k or replaced.

I'm hoping that the new Custodes models will assemble in a similar fashion to the old ones, with the width, shoulder to shoulder, being the same. If it is, then the old Sagittarius arms would be compatible.

Not surprising, but a little irksome.

On the 40K rules update, the tanks do have some new weapons options that didn't exist before, so the promised update could just be adding those.
