If Games workshop released a codex for each major chaos legion (Iron Warriors, Thousand Sons, Deathgaurd, etc.), How would you react?

It's kind of a mixed question for me. I would love for every Army to have it's various groups to be fully represented with thier own codex detailing their history, major battles, tactics, special rules etc. On the other hand GW STINKS at supporting the one's they already have.

If the question is would I be upset if they released them under the current way of doing things, then hells yes. It would add over a freakin decade to the current release cycle.

If the question were that GW would pull their collective heads from their rear orifice and figure out a way to release codex so players of certain armies don't have to wait 5-10 years (I feel for ya DE and SW players) between their codex are looked at again then yes. GW should not release a new edition until all codex are brought in line for that edition. Maybe have all the codex ready release the new edition and then release a codex a month until all the armies are covered. Release the models for those armies as they become available, don't hold back a codex until the models are ready for mass release.

Rather than entire new codices, I'd rather they release supplement codices to the main Chaos Space marine book.

it'd be faster so that they wouldnt spend ages on more marines.

P.M. me for rational Eldar Advice, both on list construction or Tactics.

Also feel free to query me about rules from the Eldar and Space Marine codices, as well as the General Rule book.

They should mak one codex that encompases all of the following:
-Night Lords
-Iron Warriors
-Word Bearers
-Alpha legion

The four devoted legions and black legion are pretty much what the current codex is about.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

What the hell are you smoking?

Please read the previous 3.5 Codex.

Now read it again.

The new codex does not encompass the devoted Legions. If anything, it's better at representing the Undivided Legions. Each of the devoted Legions had their own armoury. The Undivided Legions were just vanilla CSM with funky rules.

The new codex does not let you have Terminator Berzerkers, or flying Daemon Princes with their god's daemon weapon.

to the OP:

i would be glad if they released a codex of that, just full of fluff and fun units but the way GW is going - they would probably ruin the whole concept and destroy my beloved thousand sons.

While I know that there are books out there that need the work, I would not be riled in the least to see a specific Legions codex. I know it won't happen(even though Pete Haines himself had to admit that single legion was the preference for the majority of players) I don't think it'll ever happen. If it did, it would be dragged out over so long that people would forget that they were ever doing the legions and complain about the one Iron Warriors or Deathguard codex as being too powerful. It would be like when they wanted to do an inquisition cycle with all 3 ordos and stopped after Witchhunters. Or tried to do a Chaos cycle with Beasts, Deamons, and mortals. If I recall correctly there was the big Storm of Chaos mortals-ish list, then beasts....then years and years later they finally got around to neutered mortals and OP Demons.

While it would be great to see well writen, well thought out codices for each Chaos legion,I would be happy with just a Legions codex.

There are a total of 9 Chaos Legions, not counting Fallen Angels and Red Corsairs. We have 5 Loyalist Legions. I fail to see how it would make sense to have any more MEQ Codices, ever.

Well.with the Spezz Woofz codex looming in the distance, would it really be such a huge undertaking for GW to release one little chaos legions codex?

@Fitzz - I think a Chaos Legions (DG, EC, WE, TS) / Chaos Renegades (BL, IW, NL, WB, AL, RC, FA) would be an excellent split.

But GW doesn't appear to be headed that direction. And the OP was asking for 9+ Chaos Codices anyways...

I think that at least the "specialist" legions deserve their own big book. 4 Sections, one for each power and their specific units/legion. Fleshing out 2 or 3 new units per flavor would be a great way to introduce new types of demons and such, and you can always go back and change certain units with new(or old) options, like Sound Terminators and all that jazz the old codex had.

Adding 9 codices to the release cycle is a BAD thing. They should already be combining (or eliminating and folding back into Codex Marines with a supplemental character or two in either WD or the next C:SM version) some of the loyalist variants' books.

As JohnHwangDD noted, adding a single additional book wouldn't torch the release cycle, but might make things a bit more appealing to people who yearn for their pure lists again.

In either case, there's updates that need to be done, first. 3rd edition codices should be purged with holy fire first.

Yeah, too many armies on the schedule was bad, that's what was found during the 3rd edition when the Index Astartes armies were published in White Dwarf. Eventually they were collated in the second 3rd edition Codex: Chaos Space Marines, and there was a great gnashing of teeth at the 'blandification' that was required to fit that mish-mash of half-baked homebrew into a single list.
