A cool effect I have seen with photos is the non-important stuff in black and white and then the focus in colour, this is really cool, and would help I think. I like the look of the roads as well.

WarMill wrote:! Great idea - we did think about something like that whereby you could build a board aka ikea kitchen planning software! Although we would have no idea how to implement that and I'm sure would cost a pretty penny to get some one to do it for us!!
May things to consider, I like the idea of an in use image with some Photoshop action going on!
You'd have to use Flash/Flex to create a little app like that; it might be possible with html5, but I've not looked too far into that yet as I've been too busy with work :/
It'd probably cost a couple of grand to get it done professionally; so return on investment... probably not that great at the moment. I'd suggest just creating a few different layouts in photoshop and selling packs...far cheaper and much more reliable too.

Post by: WarMill
Ed's busy on the instructions for the roads now the model's finalised (minus a bit of engraved detail), I'll be on the noodle bar instructions as soon as we have this barricade stuff out the way! both products should be ready next month.
As for orks, what sort of terrain do ork players want to buy? It always seemed to us you'd juts hammer terrain together out of anything, but if there's something ork players are clamouring for we can certainly take a look at it!

Well I would think of walls, abodes, towers etc. Icons are nice as well. Considering that even if they can throw things together your works plus ork stuff equals not only profit for you but an EXTREME customization ability for people who get multiple kits.
Same with DE, eldar, necrons, and tau stuff. Sadly not tyranid stuff though.

Kroot, we should try and come up with some sort of design together since we are both looking do do something similar. Then we could just commission them as we need to, cost are the same as ordering the 'stock' versions if you do the design yourself(correct me if i'm wrong guys).
41690
Post by: WarMill
No sarcasm, a generic girder construction set is actually something we've talked about quite often!
We've already done some bases quite similar to what you're talking about, we did a set of yu jing bases for a guy (and have another commission which we really need to get done...), and I've used bases along those lines for my Ariadna. I have some Military Order almost painted that I want to give some super sexy bases to, either in mirror or frosted green.
Yeah cost is the same if you can prepare the artwork, also there's a much higher chance of it actually getting done as we don't have much time to fit commissions in nowadays :(

Do you plan on getting into markers? I know tau, necrons, vehicles, etc would LOVE markers that looked amazing and not along the GW lines. Hell you could even do a personalized (per each person) assault / los measure thing (its 1x6x2x4) You would make easy money off that if people can have a picture/name on one of those.

Cool love the buildings very infinity. Just wondering could you make some 40k buildings like the fantasy chapal
But make it so that it goes in a 40k house type of thing, that multiple can be slotted together to form a hive lower residents district,
because that no only would be cool but helpful for a campaign I'm planing on later

I'll try and get some of the more reasonable ones up on here later.

I haven't missed an announcement about the elevated roads, have I?
(In a way, I hope I have?)
41690
Post by: WarMill
Sorry Alph, production's still 100% on the distributor orders but those will be done and dusted in the next couple of weeks, then the roads and noodle bar will be out as soon as the laser's free. And not a minute too soon! Seriously, my spare bedroom has become a stock room with piles of boxes everywhere. Thank god we have understanding girlfriends, Ed's was kind enough to run the laser for us and mine's been helping me box and label.
Since the laser's chugging away full time at the mo, I've had a bit of time to start CADing up the next development of the PUP, the MULE (Modular Unit - Living Environment). Following the same design idea as the PUP, this is designed to be a more refined civilian version of the PUP intended for living more than storage, but still with the sense that things aren't too great for the average citizen of the future It's being designed to alleviate a problem with multi-level buildings and gameplay that will become obvious once it's finished, and should be the most practical solution for stackable modular buildings. Expect a range of sizes and themes (Bar, whoop!). Ed's also been drafting up some secret stuff that is getting us both very excited
Pics of the prototype then. Still a lot of work to do and no detail yet.

The MULE looks like an excellent counterpart to the Noodel Bar series of buildings - very nice...
And no worries on the roads - I've saved up some money to send your way once they're done!
17349
Post by: SilverMK2
Looks interesting, though the asymmetrical floor plan may lead to a lessening of the modularity overall - a symmetrical building would allow people to stack floors "back to front" which (if the walls have different designs on each side) allow for a bit more variation in their look.
However, I can see the "pointed" ended design being handy when delivering these on the back of a truck or something

Post by: Foxtale
Hmmmm... it looks more human than alien. Futuristic, sure, but it looks more like a gate on a wall than a warp gate.
I don't know if I'm alone in this, but I imagine an alien warpgate to be smooth, swooping curved surfaces, arches. If you were going for an Eldar look, their 'wraithbone' surfaces tend to be very organic; grown rather than built.
They are often detailed with lines, almost like circuitry, connecting up glowing stones of power. And detailed with runes as well.
It's not a bad warpgate you've made. It looks really good. But it definitely looks human.

Well they said 'less alien'. So looking 'human' is good? They already do a variety of alien style gates.

Now I just have to wait for it to be shipped to the US. I'm excited!
Are you working on any other commercial buildings? A convenience store would be great to have, especially with some display shelves and such to have shoot outs around. it could work both for Infinity (my favorite game) and with any zombie apocalypse type boards out there as well.

I think you need to send GW a C&D letter as they are copying your fortress design

Actualy something to seriously consider as it's not a giant leap of the imagination for GW to sell this for a while then take you guys to court for copying them.... even though yours came out first and was in developement first... it won't stop them from trying to crush you with an expensive lawsuit

Hi guys and gals!
Been off the radar for a while now - we were running off a few of the new shipping crates last night, and painting them up in the only way we know - by adding more grime!
Here are a few WIP images so far!
We will be taking a few packs to Warfare this coming weekend, but suggest if you want a pack or two, to email us with pre-orders in mind to avoid disappointment!

Love the self advertising - a nice tight future universe you are building for yourselves
Would love to see some kind of military franchise armoured store for your fortress kit - "Sgt Sausage! Giving it to our boys on the front!"

Can't believe we forgot about the barricade when it came to the labels! Good job there's still time to tweak them!

They look great and i think those pastel colours make them look very with the Infinity style. How did you achieve them may i ask? Not that i'm going to steal your idea or anything... <shiftyeyes>

They almost tricked me into forgetting about them by dangling the new shinys in my face!

Do the new crates include the 'standard' Warmill "advertising" signs as well?
When I checked on your site, it wasn't readily apparent.... to me at least!

How feasible would it be to replace the road surface portion of your roads with tinted acrylic?

Acrylic roads sound amazing - one of those why didn't we think of that!
Another to add to the list I suppose :p

There's no difficulty to doing that, though obviously acrylic is considerably more expensive than MDF! It would look cool though

The Crates come with labels to stick on (if you buy the 5 pack)
Any chance of mr nice Warmill person sticking up a few things like that for download off their site???? I could use them for other scenery and stuff. Using labels like that is a genius idea and I'd like to see more - anyone know of where they can be obtained?
That board looked great - like the Tohaa Warp-Gate too All we need is rules for it, ......and before you ask I'm almost sure it wasn't a Eldar portal

Not a bad idea that, we'll have to set up a rapidshare or similar account and put them up there. Labels are easy, we buy all ours from Ebay. They're 14-per-sheet ones on the crates.
I reckon an Infinity scenario with lots of interconnected warpgates could be good for a laugh, lots of troops teleporting around a table to get those shots in the back

I have big plans for an entire settlement raised of the ground. PUP's and the newer buildings attached straight onto the side of the road with walkways between them. Going to be huge. But awesome!
28327
Post by: mullet_steve
that would look very cool built up above some sort of swamp
38473
Post by: Zwan1One
That would be cool as well. I was imagining a some kind of burned out radioactive ash waste. Lots of dead trees and rock piles.
Although a swamp could have half sunk PUP's and outpost.
Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp.

Loving the new stuff guys. I wish I had a computer that could run some half decent software so I could get you guys to print some of my ideas. One day... This year if all goes to plan.
Also, one day i'll finally place that base order with you. I'll be starting the projects that need them pretty soon so it shouldn't be long now.
Question, what software are you guys working with anyway? I most fluent with Inventor so I was considering getting that when the time comes but I've been told that it's overpriced when you compare it to other options.

See, I missed this thread with all the updates
Love the crates - make a lot of sense with the resin bits inside
The waste pods would look great if the storage station also came with some kind of truck to take it to the waste to the recycling centre/dump it on the poor

Well, spent a few too many hours airbrushing this evening! Now its very late indeed! There is method to the madness of using out of scale models in these shots - I needed something extremely white to take a picture with, this way on camera it looks the same, I can rest assured that the walkways are indeed a brilliant white. As its the middle of the night and my eyes were somewhat falling out of my face, I could tell for sure!

I has been thinking boss...... have you by chance looked at this thread yet??? http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/180/509439.page#5348209
It got me thinking that I'd love to see some decent sci fi scenery such as yours at this reduced scale, maybe laser-cut out of thinner material 2mm instead of 3mm and just scaled down to match? doable or horribly complicated and a god awful idea??

wow cannot belive I have only just seen this!
Some really nice stuff.
I noticed though you don't have all of the fences and kits on your site?
Im so tempted to mix and match some of your stuff to create an urban/military complex to play Necromunda on. Will be epic.
Also have you though about doing any historical based buildings like kits for a wild west town?
Or even gothic based building that could be used in 40k or in a fantasy town?
