Argh-- the sale was enough that I broke my streak of not buying anything this year- I even passed up finishing off my kingdom death collection, but got in for leo and medusa for two larger pieces.
cincydooley wrote: Their presence was great. Gomez, did you get any dice?
Walker and Nick were very cool. I'm super glad I got to meet them and hope they can make it to some more events.
The booth was pretty much packed the entire weekend.
Ha - I didn't actually attend the con, just kept updated and aware through Facebook. Would love to get some of those dice tossed in the box with the minis I ordered (Anum, Euryale, Acerbus, Hagal) but I seriously doubt that'll happen.
Excited to hear the positive response about RRG's presence. Hoping that bodes well for their future - they seem to be the type of company who deserves it.
I've been on the outside looking in on Arena Rex for a while - I caught wind just as the Kickstarter finished, then kind of lost sight of the game as we waited for the Webstore to open.
Then all of a sudden I saw them again at Adepticon this past weekend, and was finally able to pick up some minis! Their booth was packed the entire weekend, you had to wait in line just to try the demo.
I grabbed most of Ludus Magnus, as well as Leo for some living terrain. Two buddies grabbed the Zephyri and the Morituri.
We're getting together tonight to play a few games, what sorts of advice do you all have for new players? What should we make sure we don't skip?
And are there any solid places to grab some terrain? Roman Columns to scale especially.
Here is a link to the point in my on-again/off-again WIP project log where I started work on my AR minis, arena, and terrain - you'll see a couple of my tidbits about columns, etc. a couple posts in. Most of my stuff is DIY though.
As for tips about playing: it's a pretty straightforward game. Read the rules, be at least a little familiar with your fighters' individual abilities, and then jump in. I might suggest a 1 v. 1 run-through, just to nail down the way attacks/reactions work with each other, and to make sure you understand how all the effects from the damage trees function. After that, try some 3 v. 3 action and you'll be hooked IMO. The most important gameplay reminder is to prioritize your management of fatigue, positioning, and favor - in that order.
If you want more than that, the video I posted above is a pretty clear demo of a small game and introduces the concepts very clearly. There's also a video from the RRG webpage that makes things even simpler:
And obviously bring your follow-up questions, comments, projects, etc. back here to share.
I've been through the rules a few times, I bought the rulebook right when the Web Store first opened but never got any minis until this weekend. I'm a pretty experienced miniatures player, so I think I have a pretty good grasp of it so far. I also got a chance to play a demo (I was right in line behind Team Covenant when they filmed their Demo). I'll be getting a few 3 v 3 games in tonight, so hopefully the mechanics will get drilled in pretty well.
Thanks for the link to you stuff, I'll definitely check it out! I'll post some of my paints and builds as I get them moving along. Started on Iason last night, it felt great to put brush to mini again after abandoning 40K for X Wing (with prepainted minis) last year.
So far, I do have my Ludus Magnus squad based on primed!
DarkTraveler777 wrote: Does anyone know if the columns from the Kickstarter are ever going to be released for retail?
Seems like an obvious release for them unless those columns were designated as KS only items.
Couple months back they said they were going to release them but efforts into restocking sold out gladiators and getting new product out took priority.
Now if only they could come out with metal versions of their gladiators one of my gladiators keeps breaking.
I wish I had some of those beautiful black and gold dice.
My main wish is that they re-release the arena mat. Although I plan on making an arena, it would be so much easier to transport and demo the game with a mat. 30" diameter and similar size arenas are hard to find, let alone in mat format. I've found very few and usually they have hexes or squares in them, and the MDF/Resin ones are super expensive.
Big thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth. I'll try to write an after-action report when things calm down.
For now I'd just like to say that we're keeping an eye on this thread and your wishes/feedback are important to us. They will likely influence our product release road map in future.

Cool, thanks for the information. So hopefully when stock issues clear up the columns will make an appearance!

I know what you mean about model damage. I had my Stheno snap at the ankle and one of her weapon shafts break as well. It was a sad day when that happened.

Thanks for checking in, Nick. I'll second the request for the arena mat to be available through your store - I dig my DIY arena, but if I'm heading to a FLGS to play or demo AR I might prefer something more portable (really kicking myself for not thinking that during the KSPM). I'd also love to see more beast sculpts - tiger, leopard, ape, giant lizard, crocodile, whatever... The more the better IMO. I'm not sure how the beasts you have sell relative to the gladiator models, but I love the fact that you guys are committed to creating realistic animals. Finally, sort of related to that, I'd love to see which models are your best sellers. I'm pretty sure I have a good idea but I still think it would be pretty cool info.

A quick question- will you be attending anymore conventions/shows this year?

Great to hear it all went well,
You certainly showed up a lot on my newsfeed and everybody was very impressed with both the minis and the game

We may be at Wargamescon in Austin. Quite honestly Adepticon cleared out much of our inventory (we shipped up more product from Austin, it was immediately apparent we would be needing it). We're already planning for next year's Adepticon. You may see us branch out in 2017 though.
As far as the popularity of our minis, Medusa is extremely popular. So are the beasts. During the KS Ludus Magnus was the most popular faction, since our webstore opened interest has evened out among the 4 major factions.
There was a lot of Zephyri love Adepticon.
I've gotten busy on my Ludus Magnus collection, starting with Iason. Here are a few WIP photos, I'm hoping to have him finished up over the weekend.
Also, there is some great discussion going on here at Dakka Dakka, but if you feel like you want more Arena Rex chatter, please visit us over at www.reddit.com/r/arenarex
My hope is that reddit might be a bit easier for people to find than dakka dakka or the RRG forums, and the ability to loop in related subreddits should help spread the word about Arena Rex. Hope to see some of you over there!
So, after checking that subreddit I have to ask: is Atrox an actual upcoming beast? You guys were discussing the tiger's artwork that was shown at Adepticon, but I wasn't totally clear whether he was a sculpt-to-be or just a picture at this point...
But who is "UgLove"? Someone who heard something at Adepticon or someone more connected?
Also: disappointed to hear Stephane will be sculpting. IMO he's pretty low on the hierarchy of AR sculptors. Something always seems a bit "off" about his pieces: Acerbus seems bored, Anum's hyena's rear legs are a touch too long, Hagal is just not quite as awesome as his art, etc. I'm sure the RRG guys have a good relationship with him, I just think he's a couple steps behind MIKH, Benoit, and Sebastian.
Piston Honda wrote: Stephane has done a great job with past sculpts with fur. Bjarrhvit model is one of the best in the line.
I actually think she's one of the weakest Zephyri models. For example, the fur looks more like hair, not bear-like at all, and there's just something about her face and knife hand that seem off... But, whatever - personal taste is what it is, and it's not like she's a bad sculpt. I guess I'll just hold out hope that this incoming tiger badass looks the part.
Yeah, loved her concept but I think she's the weakest execution of any of them I have, or maybe the legio spear lady who has a weirdly flat face. I think I'm going to do a kingdom death head swap if they fit.
Also, I thought she was also beast themed- is there something I'm missing for her not being part of the beast set?
But who is "UgLove"? Someone who heard something at Adepticon or someone more connected?
UgLove is yours truly.
Ha ha - more connected indeed.
Also: would you guys be willing to sell me some extra 60mm bases? I have an order in that's waiting for some restocks and would love to add a couple of those to make some terrain elements match my gladiators' bases.
As the proud owner of both Eurayle and Acerbus (rhino) I'd say run, don't walk to get those figures! They are simply wonderful.
Since the arenas will soon have lions and tigers, perhaps we will get a bear soon (oh, my!)?
Seriously though, a bear would be awesome for the arenas!
Can't wait to get my hands on both Euryale and Acerbus (though she's waiting to be restocked, which is holding up my order). Acerbus because who doesn't want a badass battle rhino charging across the arena, and Euryale because her sculpt is just so amazing. I wasn't down with the concept of actual mythical beings in AR at first (I loved the idea that they'd maybe go more metaphorical, with Septimus and Nero representing the minotaur, and maybe a giant python representing Echidna for example) but once she was sculpted I slowly came around. Now I'm a big fan and think she'll look awesome in my arena.
Also, a bear would be perfect - lots of those poor guys went into the arena, either fighting bestiarii or going after other animals. Would love to see what MIKH could do with a bear done to the same standard as Leo and Nero (but totally afraid of how long he'd take - maybe my grandkids could paint it for me).
A number of us at our game club are really interested in this. Are there any plans of getting stock into the UK?
I have always been interested in gladiatorial combat (born in the wrong time I guess) and really looking forward to giving this a go. I enjoyed guild ball which from what I can tell is similar but wasn't keen on the football aspect.
If Adepticon had awards, Arena Rex would hands down have won Most Surprising Show of the Con. For a game that I had good, but quiet, pre-con awareness of, they came out the end as one of the most popular booths in the hall.
They had an amazing display up, showcasing the quality of their figure line. You not only had to stand in line for a demo, you had to stand in line just to see their display case. I picked up a figure from a swag coupon, and the retail version appears to be every bit high quality as the case versions. I'm looking forward to getting it painted up, because every figure from this line is display quality...not that my skill will do it proper justice
If there's one negative, it's that their space was too small! The booth was packed every single time we'd swing by. Good problems to have! There was a lot of floor buzz about the game, the booth, the figures. Because of the waits, we had to pass on running the demo...I went with my 10 year old son, and neither of us are big on crowds or waiting. Also, the lines were a little deterrent for us to consider buying more...not that selling stuff was a problem for them!
We were there Friday-Sunday, and by the time the floor closed, I think I saw maybe 4 figure packages left.
We've got enough figures lying around that we may try giving a game at home a go using proxies, and AR will be at the top of my demo list for next year. Looking forward to seeing them again, maybe with a slightly bigger booth?
I've been proposing a cave bear at development meetings for years! Who knows what the future will bring?
Our booth will double in size next year. We have big plans for new products, maybe new product types, a super-fun event, etc.
Adepticon 2016 was incredible. It meant a lot to us, seeing people packed in our booth the whole show. Sometimes you'd see a guy wander in, look at everything and then walk out. I'd think "maybe our stuff isn't for him." And 10 minutes later he'd return with his friends, they'd all freak out and pick factions. From my perspective it was really fun to watch.
I had a demo game last night (friend's Morituri and Legio starter came in before my Magnus starter). A very fun, short game, which came down to Aquila failing a counter attack against Ur-Kek, and a Morituri victory. Definitely interested, and I think we'll try to get to "full sized" games asap, with maybe an idea to use a d4 to determine ludus size (5,6,7 or 8 models).
I have to echo others on here when I say, get those arena mats out soon!
Oh man, I wish I had gotten to demo this at AdeptiCon! I have a few of the figures and they're just amazing and I've heard really positive things about the game. Awesome that the con went so well for you guys!!
It's been awhile, but here is a long-overdue update to my AR project log. Figured a few of you up in here might be interested. Would love some feedback, critique, etc.
Gomez, awesome job on Marcus Furius. You're really, really good at shading skin properly. Also, big fan of changing from the blonde hair, seemed a bit out of place in my opinion. Nicely done!
Had a quick demo at our club on Friday night just to see who was interested.
We did have to scratch our heads regarding clear turns. If player A does a clear turn and removes fatigue does that model count as still being fatigued for player B activation?
A "clear turn" affects all models on your side; you remove a fatigue marker from all your models and get to use abilities, as relevant. If any of your models are now free of fatigue markers, then yes, in the opponent's next activation they're not fatigued.
tpryan01 wrote: I am interested in the game but it looks like ALL the starters are sold out?

Restocking is underway, per RRG. Apparently Adepticon absolutely wrecked their stockpile, as everyone and their brother bought/ordered once they saw the game. Sounds like they should have more product from their caster soon.
Not sure about retail availability - I know their products have slick looking retail-friendly packaging now, but I have no idea if they're marketing/selling to FLGS at all.

Yeah, I ordered a starter from their website after it had just gone out of stock, during the Adepticon weekend. Still hasn't arrived yet, and it may be another 2-3 weeks yet.

Same boat here. This Sunday will be six weeks from when I placed my own order - I've got my fingers crossed I'll get the email re: shipping next week sometime (though not optimistic).
Just had a bigger demo of 5 a side and it was awesome! The crowd just couldn't get enough! Sadly it was my blood they were cheering for as the dice gods had forsaken me!
A few of us have ordered some guys as a small shop in scotland got a lot of Arena Rex stuff in stock last week (excellent timing). really looking forward to getting my hands on the real minis rather than using cardboard cut outs.
I posted this on the RRG forums but it seems more people go here. I built this arena for around $15 in about an hour. It's not perfect, there are gaps abound and it's not level, but it serves its purpose!
Hey man, that looks great! A little paint and it will be perfect. Consider sharing over at www.reddit.com/r/arenarex too, I know the folks over there would love to see it!
If you can find them at Hobby Lobby you can get them for almost half the price. I just got a 2'x2' insulation sheet and tacky glued the bricks on one by one!
Thanks for the tip SubParNinja! Got cracking on my arena, but I ran out of modeling sand AND black primer during construction. I'm hoping to pick those up after work today.
Had a proper game last night using our miniatures for the first time. A couple of rule questions came up so I thought I would ask the community on how you guys play it.
There was some confusion over when a miniature can activate. Say you had 2 gladiators Hermes and Iason.
Hermes double moves and gains fatigue.
In your next activation you remove that fatigue and Iason double moves and gains fatigue.
We have been playing it that Hermes cant do anything until the following turn (we have been doing a roll off to see who goes first each time everyone has activated once).
Is this correct or can Hermes now activate and remove the fatigue from Iason? And you just keep going until you end up with a clear turn or exhaustion?
We also had an issue with the Gaius "Regrowth" tactic. It reads a friendly model within 3" of this model can heal. Does this mean Gaius cant heal himself? My opponent seemed to think he could but I argued that if that was the case then they wouldn't write "within 3" of this model"
Other than that it was a great game. Need to learn how to use Ludus Magnus better I don't seem to be able to put that much damage out and the Legion XIII guys all seemed to have a base of 3 damage so could instantly kill any of my guys if they get a good enough hit.

If I understand your scenario correctly, if Hermes and Iason are both in your cohort then things work like this...
Turn 1: Hermes double moves and is fatigued.
Turn 2: Clear Hermes' fatigue, Iason double moves and is fatigued.
Turn 3: Clear Iason's fatigue, activate Hermes however you like.
At the start of your turn you clear fatigue from one model and activate any other model with no fatigue on them. There is no reason to roll off or skip a turn - if Hermes starts the turn free of any fatigue he's fair game to activate however you like. If you push Hermes to exhausted (say, by moving then power attacking) then he can't clear fatigue (as he's past that point) until you reach a clear turn, which is when everyone in your cohort starts a turn with some level of fatigue. At that point you remove a level of fatigue from everyone (fatigue goes to clear, exhausted goes to fatigued) and activate any tactics you've got available.

We've always played that Gaius himself does count as a "friendly model within 3 inches". Not sure if the RRG guys have ever chimed in on that, but even in the rulebook they suggest that if you have questions you should reread the rule and play it just as it's written. I think in this case they would have written something like "another friendly model" if they meant to exclude GP from his own power. I'd suggest asking the question over at their official forum to get an official ruling - Walker is pretty good at responding to rules queries (even if it sometimes takes a day or two).
should be getting my 2 starters today...hoping to get them ready for demos in a couple of weeks.
RRG I know your busy but PLEASE get this into distribution...you have the audience just not the B&M presence.
I know my store would carry this if they could.

I'd suggest your store contacts them directly, as I'm pretty sure they'll supply them as there's much more control possible supplying a single store than a distributor who'll demand bigger discounts and expect restocks to contain far more minis at once
Piston Honda wrote: I just got my order from the adepticon sale, well half of it.
They sold out of everything and only get shipments from the caster every 2 weeks.
Anyone know who does the casting?
No idea who does their casting, but the type of resin they're using seems to have changed from the original KS minis. I just got my own backordered package from them as well - here is the update to my ongoing AR painting log with some of my impressions of my new goodies.
And I'm not sure where to ask, but will RRG have Lupa for sale at Gencon?
At Adepticon, they mentioned planning on having her available at cons and special events, but I know Gencon was a little unexpected for them so I don't know if you can rely on that info.
That looks really great, but I couldn't find any dimensions listed on their website. Their other mats about the same price point are 36x36, but it would be nice to know...
Also, am I right in inferring that it's made from the same material as those vinyl banners? If so, I haven't seen anything like this application of it before.
Valen, previously revealed at Adepticon, will be available as a pre-release at GenCon. We'll make sure we have some every day. As a teaser, here is his game card smile emoticon
And now, the spectacular Valen mini sculpted by Benoit Caucies and painted by Benjamin Williams. I hope we brought enough.
Solid model, if unspectacular - though the alt head is a nice touch. I think his vitality bar is the shortest I've seen, which is probably due to his two skills being so powerful. With the coordinated nature of Legio XIII, Fade is especially strong - makes him almost untouchable if you support him right.
Rumor is that there's also a mounted Legio model to be unveiled at Gen Con - the RRG guys mentioned a knight/warhorse combo a while ago, which makes sense with their theme. Interested to see how it turns out...
There's also this for anyone who will actually be there...
Also, Hroka and Hroka + Caho-Ta officially go on sale August 15 (finally). Here's the 360 vid RRG posted for them...
Should've posted this earlier, but if it's like their Adepticon sale it'll be extended through the rest of this week...
New Legio XIII gladiator: Valen.
Looks like a fantastic set of skills. Fade in particular looks like it could be a gigantic pain in the ass since Legio is all about assisting and supporting each other.
Another new Legio XIII gladiator: Ywain.
And another amazing skill set. Rebuff will make you think twice about attacking him without adding Favor dice to the mix, and then Redoubt makes him nigh invincible for a turn. Also, word on the street is that as a "proto-knight" he will get a mounted version later on (the rumored Legio warhorse?).
BoW interview with Walker from RRG. Mentions next Ludus will be Greek themed - but is still approximately two years out (so be patient).
So while this miniature line definitely could be called boutique, that comes with a downside. For miniatures meant for a game, they make way too many parts far too flimsy for actual gameplay by even the most careful of players.
From the perpetually bending of Iason's soft resin 1mm thick spear, to the single skinny ankles that most female models are posed on, to Hermes' pointlessly thin helmet feathers.
I noticed they at least switched to metal for spears and such in later models.
These miniatures are beautiful, but these overly thin parts are not something that helps. Instead, it just serves to highlight the impracticality of the sculpts for gaming, and how ugly they get when after 1-2 game sessions things start breaking and bending uncontrollably.
The game is good though, fast and fun.
It does need some better objectives though. Perhaps a set of objective cards that give favor if they're completed. I'm thinking a Golden Fleece objective on the field that if grabbed, grants extra favor every clear turn while it's possessed. But, also put dueling circles or a restorative fountain on the other side of the arena. This gives a reason for players to split up, otherwise everything becomes a scrum in the center.
You'll definitely want some kind of beast to use as a living hazard since it's a big part of the rules to have them, otherwise you'll be missing out on 1/3 of the rules of clear turns. A plus side is that most beasts are a mount for one character or another, or can be used in the beast ludus.

I haven't had the same issue. I needed to do a lot of straightening of resin parts when I built the models, and there were a few poses that need to either be pinned to the base or needed some green stuff to be secure, but once it was built my minis have been fine. I did wreck Hermes' feathers during a game, but that was the result of fat fingers after several beers. Are you familiar with resetting resin? After you get those spears and things properly straightened, they should start bending again unless they are getting hot, like being left in a car or something.

Those sound like fun ideas! Definitely implement them in your games, and let us know how it goes if you do! The rule set is loose enough that you can fit stuff like this in without disrupting the balance of the game.

You can play satisfying games without living hazards, but I agree that it is more fun with them included. You can also use a beast in your squad without Anum.
Glad you found the game, and glad you're having fun!
I had hoped for a Greek Ludi in a post on AR's subreddit, so I'm super-excited to see them confirmed as an upcoming faction.
Added: Also, cards for Hroka and Caho-Ta (not sure if they've been shown already):
It's nice to see the game getting more fleshed out. The list building mechanics allow for a lot of factional cross play, but it's been a little Ludus Magnus heavy until now. With the Gen-Con pre-releases included, the factions now stand at:
Ludus Magnus: 9 gladiators, 1 mount (10 gladiators if you include Lupa)
Legio XIII: 8 gladiators
Morituri: 7 gladiators, 1 mount
Zephyri: 6 gladiators, 1 mount
Of course, that's not including Noxius, the 3 Gorgons, and the 4 unaligned beasts/titans.
It'd be good to see the other factions catch up to Ludus Magnus' numbers by the time the Greeks come out.

A prize-winning draft and show animal, Dextarius was a gift to Ywain; a luxe reminder that the man himself was at best a display piece or burden in Imperial politics. While the massive creature lacks the agile hooves and speed preferred by legionary riders, his agile mind and sheer brawn make him a terror in the arena. With a great weight of armor added to so much horse, any charge is certain to be decisive.
Sculpture credit belongs to Patrick Masson, illustration by Yasmine Putri. Paint by Benjamin Williams.
Secondly, I really do not like the off the shoulder breast plate. Regardless of how much sense it makes as armor (super uncomfortable), on the model it really just looks like the painter screwed up, and painted one side of the body in armor, and forgot that the body on the other side of the sash was supposed to be armor too. Or vice versa. It just makes no sense that the line of the armor would follow the sash perfectly (unless it is attached to the armor), and that is exacerbated by the lorica musculata being so close to what you expect his body to look like. My brain keeps telling me that the painter made a mistake, and he should be topless.
It seems like a minor thing, but it really bugs me. A bad concept flawlessly executed. :(
It's upon us again, the Ides of March. This is the day Arena Rex was launched in 2013; we couldn't be happier about how much the game and its following has grown.
We'd like to tease the next gladiator to be released, Leika. Coming to Adepticon? You may have a chance to check her out.
Tonight we'll be posting our first FAQ and Errata doc, keep an eye out.
The Ides is upon us! Arena Rex is 4 years old today -- and boy has each of those years had a different flavor. In addition to this morning’s preview of Leika, we have a latest revision of our rulebook to share. A couple of small, but impactful changes have lead us to version this 1.10. We have also collected an Official FAQ with the changelog for those who want to skip straight to what’s new.
Great thanks to the fans of the game who collected the unofficial FAQ on the wiki – many of the responses are lifted wholesale or lightly modified from that document, and are now official. Further thanks to our forum and subreddit communities (some of whom overlap with the above) for some great discussion around the finer points of the rules interactions and also for the translations that we have available.
Mostly, thanks to everyone for making this such a rewarding project, whether it’s through discussion, showing off your modeling and painting, playing the game out and about or in your own home with the shades drawn, or even just visiting the website or picking up the odd model or handful of dice. We continue looking forward to the growth of Red Republic Games, and Arena Rex in particular, with shining eyes thanks to you all.
Yes to both, I believe - definitely Zephyri (posted on /r/ArenaRex/), almost certainly retiarius, what with the trident and net. Really intrigued by the art - here's hoping it's another cracker of a sculpt!
Yeah, I found Common Ground, and there were relatively recent comments on the FB page suggesting they're working towards an online store.
It seems reallly odd that a game with such great minis and an interesting rule set hasn't been picked up in the U.K. by one of the bigger retailers, but I've got plenty going on for the time being, if I wait for CG or someone's else to get their online act together that might mean I can actually buy some stuff and paint it rather than toss it on the pile of shame!
Man, if they managed plastic boxes around the price of Malifaux's stuff, I'd be all over their line. Their minis are gorgeous, but pricey enough that I really think about it before buying anything...
Just got into this last week with Legio and had a lot of fun with it. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Guild Ball and Monsterpocalypse. Quite liking it as a quick brawl to fit in between other games.
Does anyone have any suggestions for which Gladitors are good splashes into Legio? There are a lot of fairly generic archtypes, but I'm curious if its worth taking any of the more unique tricks like Zahra or Micon. Any lacking abilities in Legio that are worth pulling from other schools?
GenCon can't get here fast enough! Here is a preview of the Tribune's stat card. He is one of the new minis we are releasing this week at our booth and the first Ludus Magnus gladiator to be released since our KS campaign. The other factions had some catching up to do with respect to the number of minis available. As things leveled out a bit we knew it was time to give some more love to the classical roman style.
Sadly they've felt the need to post that the fasces round the axe doesn't mean they support the alt-right and that the figure has been in development for a while
(but I guess with the active kerfuffle around Reaper and their employee it's probably a sensible move)
With something so historically based, I don't think that was really necessary, since probably most people who recognize that origin, and recognize it on the model, and are interested in pseudo-historical fantasy would recognize that it has nothing to do with modern fascism.
In other news, I'm not very impressed with the model. IDK, maybe it's the sizes of the helmet and axe shaft, but something looks kind of awkward about the mini's shape/scale. Are the knees too low?
The head looks too big because he's basically wearing a second, larger head over top of his normal sized one. It's probably technically correct, but we're accustomed to basically just painting a normal face metallic.
Unless your looking for a discounter which I'm not sure of and I notice Firestorm aren't selling with any discounts given RRG are a small company making resin minis discounts may not be possible for them.

Yea. I missed the 15% off sale they had so was wondering if there was another discount place

Atrox should be released in January. We had planned to release the tiger at the start of November but it was held up in customs due to documentation issues, then he was lost by FedEx for a month. Thankfully he was found and is now at the caster
We'll have a new character that unlocks a third sub-faction soon after. Adepticon may see the first Helleniki mini, while Gen Con will see the release of many more.
Our release schedule will be a little funky until the Greeks come out. But the original factions should each be getting some love after Gen Con.
Hey all, pretty big thread necro but I figure it's not a bad place to do it! Just getting into the game (I think my group is the first in the country to do it) with the Helleniki and really looking forward to playing. That said, does anyone have any advice as to playing Helleniki? Looking at starting off with 2-4 man battles before going the full 6, and so I was thinking of scaling it up as follows:
2 man- Theophania and Archidamos. This is because Archie looks like a pretty simple blunt object, and I love the sculpt for Theophania
3 man- Add Antaeus. Board control and wrestling to help out with hazards
4 man- Argos. Shieldwall and Phalanx to have a fighting block with the other 3
Would anyone recommend swapping the order of these? I don't currently own Dimitrios or Telesto as I wasn't as fussed on them, but can proxy with other things if need be (Knight Models mounted and foot Wonder Woman seems appropriate enough)
I wouldn't stress about it too much. It's a pretty low variance game in terms of what you bring to the table. I would recommend focusing on your beatstick options at lower figure counts and adding tech as you size up. To that end, I think you've got the right idea as Theo and Archie look like the primary brawlers for the Greeks.
Also, generally speaking, 4 man is really kind of the minimum size to feel the fatigue system work correctly. Once you get your feat wet you can probably fully jump in pretty quickly. Adding models doesn't really complicate the game beyond just making your decisions on who to activate a little harder.
The rules actually aren't all that difficult to get your head around, but the fatigue system is really important. So like LunarSol said, you might actually want to start at games around 4 fighters a side, then scale up. I think 5-6 fighters is the sweet spot since the game is really, really bloody. It really only takes 1-2 good hits to bring a fighter down.
Also looking at your faction benefits can give you an idea of a faction plays (Ludux Magnus, for example, like to earn and spend a lot of Favor, which their Flourish and Circus Maximus passives help with).
From what I can tell: Helleniki like to be in contact with each other (Ekstasis), and you can then use this better ATK/DEF benefit to take a little damage with Hubris to earn and use Favor. And you can use Heroic Challenge to pull weakened or critical fighters out of position.
So I played my first game yesterday (closely followed by second and third) and I love it! Easily one of my favourite games, just how quick and brutal it is really sold me on it. We made a few rules mistakes and I slipped up on some plays (splitting off Helleniki was dumb) but the game overall is really smooth. My painting desk has had almost everything shoved to the side now (apart from a couple things on final highlights) so that I can crack into my Helleniki ASAP, because I really picked up the mojo to paint them. Also ordered Dimitrios yesterday, so I'm only a Telesto off having all 6 Helleniki
Well and truly into it now, I really do love this game. Worked out a lot of the intricacies in rules now and our games are very tense, it seems like the game can be decided on any dice roll (and indeed it was in my last game). Finished up Argos, Theophania and Archidamos this week, with Antaeus soon to follow, and even the sculpts are nothing short of amazing. Just waiting on my order for Dimitrios to arrive and we'll be scaling up to 5 man cohorts, while I'm already eyeing off an order for Telesto (and a sneaky little Morituri cohort)
LunarSol wrote: Looking good! Overall like the look of the Greeks, but I'm trying to avoid faction bloat with the skirmish stuff these days.
It's definitely an issue, as you can see in my sig. I'm already looking at Morituri as a second cohort both from a gameplay and modelling perspective, but kind of holding out to hear if there's any plans on the Persians in the future (and for more Helleniki obviously)
Hi all, I've decided this week to get to writing up some things for Arena Rex, starting with a run down of the game in general for those who might be newer/looking at starting. Going to get into overviews of characters and the cohort benefits soon, in a similar format to what I already do for Batman Miniatures.
