Ye Gods, Has It Been That Long!
Over the past six years and four months since I started this project I've been repeatedly asked, What colour am I going to paint this beasty.
Well I've finally found a colour scheme I think will be befitting this endeavor.
It combines the understated mechanical appearance of a Lucius Pattern Emperor Titan with the garish opulence of the upper works.
The concept is credited to Joazzz2, the original 3D designer of the images I follow.
https://i.imgur.com/S2KmceV.png
You can see I quite a bit of detailing still to do on the upper works before I commit to painting.
And the four spires on the superstructure will be "Vengeance Weapons Batteries" for aerial defense.

Are We Having Fun Yet!
It took me the better part of a week but I finally have 22 cathedral style window frames for my buttresses.
Basilica Adminstratum
https://i.imgur.com/7DCwNlo.jpg
I cut them out from the panels of couple Basilica Adminstratum kits I had lying about.
https://i.imgur.com/tiCkgUP.jpg
Cripes! Blackadder Do you know what those kits are worth?
Yeah, in point of fact I just purchased one on ebay for a hundred bucks free shipping ( I still need more windows and door panels.)
https://i.imgur.com/5tQiZge.jpg
But "In for a penny, in for a pound." I always say. It's only money.
https://i.imgur.com/STHfTYG.jpg
So, was it worth it?

It was a matter of disappointment when I found the turrets were hexagonal and would not fit the upper bastion assemblies.
Ultimately I had to make my own...

holy jebus man, 6 years, I still remember when you were building the warlord and the thunderhawk. Wow has time flied or what. This is a work of art bro, I love it. The dedication you have put into it is mind blowing. Ive been on a hobby break the last 2 years or so. I have a warbringer about 7/8th assembled (just needs the gun finished and the armour panels put on) and basecoated ive been kinda getting the itch to work on something but I don't know if I want to jump right back into the titan.
I also have a warhound I am putting together for a friend. I look at the stuff I want to do, then I look at the warhound....then I look at my stuff somemore then I feel guilty looking at my stuff when the warhound is still in pieces. Le sigh such is life.
This is mind blowing blackadder, im glad the local stores could donate polystyrene that stuff isn't cheap I am loving this bad boy. Like someone else said its like watching a child grow and age. Hell I think your warmonger is older then my granddaughter lol. But its so awesome to see. Its like a old friend you don't see much, but when you do you have a great time with them. The weapon arms look great, the whole thing looks mind blowing.
Also you can never expect the Spanish inquisition... I love those models
Keep up the amazing work. This is legend.

Hints;
They're grey and gold.
There will be 32 of them on the model when finished ... yeah I'm making a couple extra and picking 32 of the best.
They are divided into 3 panels with 2 spacers.
There are two of them in the Emperor image below.

Whew; well it took the better part of a month but I finally finished the corner obelisks. Literally thousands of pieces
But I think it was worth it.
I can't wait until they're painted gold and graphite and installed on the Titan's super structure.
The beauty of these modular constructions is that I can begin painting as soon as the sub-structures are completed....
To my satisfaction that is so there are the discrepancies to be dealt with.
But these are sufficiently done so I can begin working on the gun mountings on these units. it will be a release from the tedium as I only need eight gun emplacements.
Piece o' cake.

I'm really looking forward to this project log.
The orbital defence batteries are screaming to be converted into titan weapons and I love how you approach the project. You 'think in scenery', this causes you to design outside-in instead of the usual inside-out.
This will hopefully lead to a supremely detailed titan.

We're back ( I hope for good )
To tell the truth I've been busy with local politics and have not had time to work on this project for the past four months.
I'll scrounge around for some update images.
Last week I totally disassembled the model to make ready to work on the upper deck.
I also removed the upper legs to work on the thigh and knee armour regions.
'
I've also been teaching myself "Pirates of the Caribbean" on the piano.
It's a tough piece to learn and my old hands and fingers aren't up to the god awful repetition in the base clef.

Joint Armour
I've thought about this a lot over the past few months and nothing I could come up with filled the bill of what I am looking for.
The joint armour must cover the knee and hip joint but still not be bulky and clumsy looking. It must be logical and functional but still be pleasing to the eye.
So to refresh your memory and not have you shuffling through dozens of pages of images I'll present the original leg sections as they are at present.
https://i.imgur.com/zHAQrvy.jpg
First of all I've decided to reverse the knee and hip joint so the quadricep actuators are in the front and hamstring actuators are in the rear of the knee.
The quads are the only actuators I really need so the hamstrings will be just for show.
https://i.imgur.com/GBbCQ7M.jpg
Suddenly the leg actuators begin to make a lot more sense.
I started with a couple of rectangular cards and reinforced them with the egg crate fluorescent lens material
https://i.imgur.com/pk4ZHMs.jpg
and started to pare away material until a shape began to emerge
https://i.imgur.com/XtNURj7
That's all for today but this is beginning to take shape.

https://i.imgur.com/AOvbslk.jpg
Since this is supposed to be an ornamented version of a Emperor Titan as opposed to my Lucius pattern Warlord I am proceeding with the decorative armour.
https://i.imgur.com/42Ylzql.jpg
This will set the pattern fo all the armour on the guns and the body shielding
https://i.imgur.com/IjMXWl9.jpg
Once I clean up the pieces these will be ready for painting.

Relegated to the stone age. I've been too long in the manufacture of this model and 3D printing technology has consigned me to the dust bin of "also ran." I was quite proud of my recently manufactured spires until I saw this Emperor Titan. https://i.imgur.com/WspZArd.jpg How' I supposed to compete with that! Post by: Vejut
I'm not really seeing a lot of daylight between the 3d print and your work honestly--you set a high bar for plastic work. That said, there's something to be said for if you can't beat 'em-join 'em--maybe look into getting some 3d printed detailing to help punch yours up even more?

Post by: Olthannon
Can heartily disagree. Yours certainly doesn't pale in comparison, it is phenomenal work. 3D printing has come along way, true, but it's still got a long way to go. Comparing to 3D printing is like looking a photo and thinking you'll never draw that well.
Different mediums, different tools.
Anyone who makes models can appreciate a scratch build, the only people who'd say 3D printing is better are people who never tried.

My little joke about 3D printing seems to have missed the mark.

Laser Blaster Armour and Shroud
It's finally time to address the armour for the arm weapons. I've been putting this off long enough.
One of the things I have been noticing in many attempts to build one of these hulking monstrosities is the walls of the cannons (in this case Blasters) and the weapons armour is too thin.
https://i.imgur.com/tMyVk0c.jpg
As you look at the photos below, take note that the construction walls are very thick.
This affords a modicum of realism to the item rather than sticking a toilet paper roll into a turret and passing it off as a gun barrel.
https://i.imgur.com/J3yKGjD.jpg
Note how the walls of this construction are very solid looking. I would not try it but I'm pretty confident it would support my 16 stone weight.
https://i.imgur.com/wUvLut4.jpg
I'm going to do something different with this shroud assembly and design and shape it whilst on the cannon assembly just to make sure its a proper fit.
So we'll start with a sheet of 0,50 mm styrene and reinforce it later from within.
Every time I do this I end up regretting it because building something outside/in is very difficult. Ha!
I just want to make sure it's a tight fit.
I had the same problem with the Mega Blaster.
6825
Post by: The_Blackadder
Armour Continued:
The decorative armour seems to be more difficult than I anticipated.
My version of the Sun Blaster is more robust that the FW cannon so it requires some aesthetic compromises which I hope will work out.
I scribed out some lines to show where the plate reinforcement strips will go but I'm still wrestling with making the curves.
I'm also trying to make the louvers aft of the mount drum.
https://i.imgur.com/lIy5GWC.jpg
I had to increase the length of the shield by half an inch which caused some distressing of the surface. I'll call it "battle damage."
After all, these machines are millennia old, they must have taken a hit once in a while.
https://i.imgur.com/QBtkwsm.jpg
Yeah, I'll go with that rationale.

Superstructure Detail: Whew! After a month or more I finally have something to show for all this effort... https://i.imgur.com/Xh3Kgyv.jpg First I found that a lot of the detail previously done was wrong or unsatisfactory. The secondary armament in the corner bastions all had to be redone. I ran out of ossarium panels and had to redistribute them and substituted scroll panels... I was at a loss as to where to use these CoD ossuary pieces until it came to me that the are the previous Princeps and Skitarii caretakers of the Titan. https://i.imgur.com/mL5GhLf.jpg The panels I thought I could use gun turrets were too wide and had to be altered I had these doors I was going to use elsewhere. https://i.imgur.com/e6TFq2I.jpg They work rather well on the main gun. https://i.imgur.com/cRMJYjL.jpg In spite of the seeming dishevelment of the project it may surprise you to know; I'm thinking I am very close to priming certain areas.

The top level four corner bastions are essentially finished; the four corner bases are awaiting some decorative bitz.
Rather than subjecting my erstwhile viewers to the tedium of daily progress I opted to show a month's work in one swell foop...
The much neglected rear view of this model is my major project at the moment. That and making College Titanica and Adeptus Mechanicus symbols out of green stuff for the major embellishments...
I cobbled together outsized Imperial Eagles for the rooftop ornamentation making 6 overall.
Today I'm going to tackle the four exhaust ports and the lower deck ducting.
So to the business at hand in the way of pictures:

the Laser Cannon emplacements which will adorn the Warmonger version of this beauty.

Transportation is super easy. The legs hips and pelvis are separate pieces from the upper body. I may make the superstructure another separate piece Right now my biggest problem is the weight.
Approaching 15 kilos (33 pounds)

Impressive, most impressive. The Firestorm lascannon turrets work really well on the towers.
My only concern is that the ball turrets on towers might be too small, given those are meant to mount Titan-grade weapons in their own right (at least Warhound level). On the other hand, difficult to judge the scale of such an enormous project!

Detail of the legs and the 8 deck levels at the rear of the superstructure.
Alright we'll begin with the rear maintenance lower decks of which there will be four.
The bottom two will be for the reactor core which will look like the Warlords reactor
The three blue pipes are for the cooling system (glowing blue due to Cherenkov Radiation) the four vents two on either side are the heat exhaust ports...
https://i.imgur.com/59eLIai.jpg
The octagonal shin below the knee joint mount has eight cathedral windows and will have four ball turret triple laser cannons
https://i.imgur.com/loTHDOd.jpg
Everything is lining up and coming out as if it were planned; go figure!!!
I think the triple laser cannons will be fine for ground defense.

Post by: The_Blackadder
In my previous post I mentioned how everything was coming together almost as if it were planned... Nothing could be further from the truth; witness the large blank area at the rear of this Titan. https://i.imgur.com/MQ5XFaH.jpg There was very little to go on in many areas of the rear elevation. Constant studying gave a glimmer of the detail. https://i.imgur.com/WRdyxAO.jpg And how easily they could be reproduced with virtually no modification to the existing structure. https://i.imgur.com/LDGFF9C.jpg Imagine my surprise to notice that the upper gallery relief could be duplicated on the lower two levels. https://i.imgur.com/EaOFjOH.jpg The most outstanding feature were the huge flying buttresses that adorn the rear detail. https://i.imgur.com/fZ4tPCw.jpg Naturally the rear area cannot be made of stone but somehow the engineers incorporated this architectural feature purely for aesthetics. Likewise the numerous gothic windows have no place in a war machine and I suspect they're a mere façade. The corner turrets could also be incorporated with little trouble to the superstructure deck and the spacing of the buttresses allows for the gothic style windows. The Rear Nave will house another large caliber cannon under the 'A' frame roof albeit of a lesser diameter than the front main cannon. I may even make the windows stained "glass" (some sort of transparent metal alloy) perhaps a diamond material.

I primed both lower leg shields with red primer and hardly used any of the can.
Both feet and the backs of the knee shield likewise.
The paint reveals building indiscretions which I'll chalk up to battle damage. Not at all that unusual for a machine that's millennia old.

You know that may be a plus in that there can be too many pristine looking windows on a millennium aged vehicle. Perhaps a bit of deterioration is just what the doctor ordered. We'll see.
I may very well rue the day I didn't heed heed your advice. I cannot say I wasn't warned.

I would use some modge podge, that stuff doesn't age well at all, discolors and cracks. But thinking about it now, maybe that is because I used it outside.
I like your thought process here, makes me want to do it with rear lit LED lights.

Geez, it's been two months since I last posted. I look at this thing and wonder when I'll be able to find the time to work in it again But yesterday I bit the bullet and began masking the citadel four corner bastions I'm rather disappointed in the leg armour It looks cartoonish. Perhaps when I add the washes Rignt now it looks like a giant version of the alpha knights Anyway here's some images to look at until I get my act together.

Washes will help break up that big monoblock of color nicely, and add some depth to things.
Perhaps a drybrush of a dusty brown at the feet that fades as you go up the legs as well...

Numbers or caution labels, prayers, bullet holes can also break up the flat area.

I think some washes and a bit of varnish will bring the legs up Adder.

You've conquered modeling, now you will conquer painting. you just need to start weathering down. Washes, inks. Airbrush if you want to get fancy. Still looks great by the way.

Well it's 3 months since I posted and I managed to paint the whole titan with black primer. Masked off all of the super structure that would be painted gold and hand rubbed with Aluminum powder all the internal structures that will be visible when the titan is finally assembled.
The image below is the corner bastions and the rear of the structure.
The front of the structure with the two metre cannon still has the blue masking tape on it and is ready for the gold paint.
That should be painted later today as I write.
Please give me a reply so I can add more images.

Yeah, Painting the whole structure with Flat Black Primer was quite a chore. Not being ambidexterous I wore out my right index finger in the hours it took to completely cover the surface areas. Twice in fact as there were areas that needed a second coat. This is not counting the areas that needed to be masked off that didn't require the Flat Black but required Flat Grey or Gold or Gloss Red. There are about 100 subassembies that needed to be painted seperately also.

Absolutely immense Blackadder! I feel your pain with the spray can, it often triggers my RSI so I can imagine the pain of spraying an Imperator! It certainly looks worth the pain and must’ve been very satisfying to see the varied materials come together as one with the paint. 8 years since the first post, but what a journey it’s been and more to come . Thank you for sharing!

The first thing I modeled for this Titan was the helmet/cockpit. Here it is seven years later and I finally worked up the courage to finally paint it...

Who knew I'd rediscover an art style 100 years late (purely unintentional believe me.)
Thanks for pointing that out.

I think the Black & gold is perfect for this high gothic look. Reminds me of the classic Epic! game.

Thanks for all the replies. Depending on How I finish off the corner bastions; it will be 57 inches (144.78 centimeters) guns and lasers to 63 inches (160.02 centimeters) with conical towers. These parts will be interchangeable. Question; Does anyone know what happened to the 40K forum "Warseer"

Adder,
It just closed, no warning, no comments, no explanation and I noticed a month so ago they were still taking guild payments which I have now canceled. Maybe Captain Brown knows some more.

I've decided to assemble this Titan to see where I am regarding painting.
I've already run into problems with the greaves as I painted over the penciled assembly remarks. Ha!
The images below show the gold clad statuary which I may or not use in the final construction.
Either way I'll make the removable as a option during display.

Oh wow, interesting. Sad. I'm always impressed Dakka has stuck around.
