I'll use this thread to log my ongoing Praetorian 4th Project, and its growing supporting forces, rather then absolutely clogging the thread with pics of past work I'll just post a few of some of the older bits an pieces and what I'm working on currently, everything else can be found in my project blog, http://colgravis.blogspot.com
D Company Command Section with converted Captain and Standard Bearer,
Heavy Weapon conversion, Gatling Gun (Heavy Bolter), Lascannon & Autocannon
Rocket Tubes (Mortars)
Some Artillery (Heavy Weapons) Crews
Some Reglular Guardsmen
Leman Russ with Gatling Gun (Heavy Bolters) and Gatling Stubber (Heavy Stubber)
Mk1 Roughriders, these were my first attempt at sculpting in greenstuff and then casting in resin some complete models though I'd used gs for lots of other smaller projects previously, I'm now working on a Mk2 version.
1500pts of the Praetorian 4th assembled for last years GT
A Sanctioned Psyker, in a break for really big painting projects I've taken to do some individual characters, a few more various ones are on the way.
The Duelist, first model of a Kill Team, hes a substancial conversion based on the Mortar Loader model,
Captain Caine, a model built for a local stores special event game, Orks Drift, was my first go at sculpting a head
Most of the assembled infantry of the 4th, D & E Companies with a number of Heavy Weapons Squads, mostly without their weapons.
Current projects include a FW Malcador which is nearly completion,
A Leviathan Command Vehicle based on a pair of baneblade kits, cities of death buildings and rather alot of plasti-card!
A Warhound Titan, Venatio Accipiter, which I could'nt resist from FW
And also a new Roughrider Sculpt, and also a Cadian to Praetorian conversion kit, all of which will be made available through the Phoenix Club.
Only the torso's are 100% complete so far, one for the Cadian conversions,
and one for the Roughriders,
The Roughriders are in scale with the slightly smaller metal models, hence the different torso's being needed for otherwise similar models, I'm working on the heads and roughrider legs at the moment, which will hopefully be finished tonight all going well.
Anyway already gone on far longer then I'd intended so I'll stop there!
These are great. Solid paint all around, and some serious sculpting ability (that head is really great). Not to mention a bit of coin invested in such a large project!
Fav model out of the group is the duelist. Very characterful.
Looking forward to seeing your completed rough riders.
I saw your duelist on CMoN a couple days ago - really nice work. And I like how you've gone the gatling route on your heavy bolters - particularly on the Conqueror. I think I'd seen something similar in a WD ages ago, but it still looks so appropriate for the Praetorians. And your RR are very impressive, too! All great stuff!
Cruentus, the Heavy Weapons are surprisingly simple, the Gatling Gun an Autocannon both use the classic Heavy Weapons carriage with fantasy 7 spoked wheels, the autocannon also uses the classic autocannon and gunshield while the gatling gun is the old Sentinel Assault Cannon. The Lascannon uses the Dogs of War Gallopper Gun Carriage, a plastic lascannon and a gun shield made from a section of track guard from the IG vehicle accessory sprue cut in half. The Rocket Troughs meanwhile are simply a section of plasticard, a plastic heavy weapons tripod and one bipod leg.
Little bit of progress on the new Roughrider Sculpts with the legs now finished.
I love it! I am going to have to talk some of my friends into setting up an Ork's Drift of our own.
I am thinking of starting up and early 1800's style Napoleonic Steam Punk army with IG, and this is definitely heavy laden with sweet, sweet inspiration!
Unbelievable. This army is just amazing. If Dakkites keep this stuff up I might just start playing this stupid game again. Is that the FW titan? It looks plastic, not resin. Am I high?
Arkion, yes I do once it's finished, the blog Bell of Lost Souls (http://belloflostsouls.blogspot.com) did an excellent package of Apocolypse rules for various vehicles, the Leviathan amongst them.
Stormtrooper X, yeah its the FW Mars, the colour of the resin can be deceptive as it varies from being very dark to very light grey.
A little update on the Cadian to Praetorian bits, the arms are still very WIP but it shows how the components will marry up to the cadian weapons.
Incredible army!! I love the uniforms, the epualettes, the piping, all of it. I always liked the idea of a napoleonic style IG, or victorian in this case. The vostroyans came close but you just blow that stuff away. Great work, and yeah that leviathon would rock as the centerpiece of an apocalypse game.
Its definately not finished, theres alot of rough edges, several gaps in the flank armour, the top of the tower needs its edges smoothing off and detailing, and the whole front section needs plates and its big arse aquilla, none the less the Leviathan is ready for action tommorrow in an apoc game.
Yeah, that thing is going to be crazy when it gets painted. It's already quite breathtaking. I'm also very interested to see a side by side comparison of the Cadian/Cadian-Praetorian Hybrid/Praetorian models to see how it all comes out. Keep it up, very impressive.
@Death by Monkeys, true enough, and truth be told theres not much more beyond CoD building sections at the moment, theres alot still to do to it.
@celebaton, thankyou, though I'd have to recommend going and having a look at irfpio's Vosy one which is huge AND superbly detailed (complete with Arvus Light and landing deck!), theres also one which was shown on warseer briefly cast up in resin with superb interior and exterior detail, there are some really nice Leviathans out there
@ZamboniKnight, one word, Ordinatus
First set of arms are just about done with the stock etc added, just needs a little work on the inside of the sleeve and some on the hand, the low an loose pose seems to be fit perfectly lasgun sets B, F & G, annoyingly though set D has a slightly different wrist so I'll need to do an arm specificly for that set.

Destrado, it's a Midnight Blue basecoat, a Regal Blue maincoat with ultramarine highlight followed by a Midnight Blue wash (and yes I do hate GW are discontinueing Midnight Blue lol)
Arkion, actually yes lol, I'm doing a 1500pt Witch Hunter force for this years GT, though the Arbites are'nt actually part of it lol, they're just something I want to paint as nice models lol
Um unpainted, its around 10,000pts, painted is just shy of 2000pts lol, I need to paint more lol
I'm in the process of converting a Praetorian Cavalry Officer based on the Commissar Gaunt model, I'm done for modelling for the time being though he lacks arms which I'll add later as it'll be easier to paint some portions of the model first.
What colours do you think for the cloak and the sash around his waist? The horse will probably be white.
Absolutely love that model. It's great to see such a dynamic pose, when all the cav models GW makes look like they've got a rod shoved up their... err, saddles. Great work on it! I'll leave the color tips to the other paint wizards
Have I mentioned how impressive this army is? If you didn't live on another continent, my Ultramarines would totally find a reason to cry Heresy! and roll some dice.
Wee bit closer after a bit of a break, just the right arm (cuff and hand) and the lance to go now really, then back to painting, also working on the Malcador and a few other things as well.
Your work is amazing! I was going to say how well they were painted but the sculpting is even better. Keep up the immense work, I thought Praetorians were the worst IG until I saw this log.
Have you done any Arbites models other than the proctor? Nice touch with the helmet by your army.
I fell in love the kit after using them in the construction of the Leviathan so had to build up some as actual Baneblades, I'm also rather fond of several of the Baneblade variants so to get the flexibility of having the option to field the different variants without spending a fortune I'm using magnets to give me options.
First off it is a Baneblade though, and theres no problems there.
The main weapon on the turret is swapable with one magnet in the turret, another in the manlet - incidently the model can be turned upside down without any problems, the earth magnets I've are plenty strong enough to hold it together.
The fore and aft sponson/armour plate mounts are swapable, with magets in the track assembly and on the armour plates and sponsons themselves - gonna beed to get some more sets of these extras so I can have no sponsons, one pair or two pairs with the different weapons options.
The upper hull and engine assembly are also swapable with magnets mounted fore and aft on cross beams which also give it a little extra strength when the uper hull is'nt in place. I've got a spare set of these bits left from the Leviathan and will convert it so as to resemble the layout of the Shadowsword style hull, with the weapons similarly swapable that'll allow a Shadowsword, Stormsword or Stormblade - and perhaps in the future the Stormlord transport variant.
Partly inspired by AWG on Warseer I'm also planning to turn a spare turret I have into an Inferno Cannon armed version of the Baneblade, I'll tinker with that next I expect and use slightly modified Plaguereaper rules.
Tally ho! I say my good chap, what an excellent army! It's nice to see some proper soldiers out there, in real uniforms, instead of gallivanting about in their greens and browns and other such sordid colours (or lack thereof) thinking that hiding is a good way of bring justice to the enemies of the Emperor. Balderdash I say! Such a ridiculous notion should never be considered by any rational man.
Now then, my good sir, I must inquire as to why the calvary wear blue if this is to be true to the British Army of yesteryear. I'm afraid the lancers and dragoons would wear the same red as everybody else, well, everybody else but the Engineers in their blue, and the explorer officers, and the command staff, and those dreadful rifles, bunch of barbarians in green jackets if you ask me...
Anywho, excellent job all round, ten points and all that, and if the Vernians and your Praetorians ever find themselves next to one another in the battle-line I can assure you we'll hold our own, unlike those olive-wearing idiots that keep polluting our battlefields with notions of "tactical retreat" and "maneuvering". Bloody morons, the lot of 'em, eh?
Right, a bit more Baneblade fun and I'm after your thoughts!
I've started assembling one of my spare turrets with a titan class Inferno Gun with a view to using a slightly modified set of Plague Reaper rules dubbed as the Helblade, I've more or less finished the base of the gun but I'm not sure about the breach section, at the moment it looks like this.
My question is do you think I should leave it much as it is now, or bring it more in line with the FW version (below), with either a single sleeve (no idea if that would be the right word for this really!), the existing multiple sleeves with holes punched in them, or a single one with holes punched in them. I really cant make my mind up - and am a little worried at the prospect of getting accurately lined up holes if I do go down that route.
Best of all worlds! Put a single sleeve on, but wrap it closer to the front so that a little bit of the rear of each barrel sleeve is visible. Use long vertical cuts on the barrel sleeves and holes on the large sleeve.
Using a single heat shield would be easier to make but would make the gun look chunky at the front end.
Seperate heat shields would give a more intricate look, which I think would fit better with your army.
I would advise making 3 shields with identical patterns of holes. Make them so that they'll not wrap fully round the barrel (leave a 2mm gap underneath) and then fill this space with the ignition unit made from a 2mm thick piece of plasticard with a slight dogleg at the end, filed to a sharp point.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product, whichever way you decide to go.
Col.Gravis wrote:Destrado, it's a Midnight Blue basecoat, a Regal Blue maincoat with ultramarine highlight followed by a Midnight Blue wash (and yes I do hate GW are discontinueing Midnight Blue lol)
Me too, that's why I stocked up with 6 pots before they ran out.
Fantastic work all round. I'd love to see them facing a feral ork army or kroot.
Northern, The Leviathan is on hold at this stage at the moment,
Joyous_Oblivion, not beyond assembly the legs, I discovered to my horror I've got a Lucius pattern 'neck' component to the hull (i.e. the main section of the hull which includes the neck mount) which I had'nt realised until I came to do doing a test fit, need to contact FW and sort it out before I do anything more there.
Game 5 of Heat 1 in 2007? Does that sound about right or would it have been earlier with my older Praetorian army?
that actually sounds about right, that was a good game, what with my terminators getting taken down by your rough riders and my whirlwind doing shockingly well.
Aye I remember that Whirlwind lol, pesky thing lol Yeah plannong on Heat 1 for this year, and it'll be back to the Praetorians again after using my SoB this year.
Finally almost finished the Malcador right down to the free hand four which I'm quite pleased with lol, just needs a bit of mud around the tracks, an aerial with a penant, and possibly a name - only possibly though, I'm not namng my tanks, I am naming my super heavy tanks, but this is to me more of a heavy tank :-s choices choices
And now finished, I ended up giving it the name of Dauntless (okay I admit a bit of a cop out as it's a Baneblade transfer) with a little added mud and a penant.
awesome paint job on that, i think you have made me a fan of the malcador now just as much as the macharius, also very consistent with your other tanks (well i specifically remember the conqueror).
Oooh your taking the beautiful army again? Awesome, considering last year i hope you get put up for best painted, that army deserves some recognition, keep it up.
This is, without doubt, the most awesome thing I have seen on dakka since I signed up.
These the design of these figures is done with such conviction and skill that it would easily find itself at home with some of the best figures I've seen in real life. Everything from the support weapons, to the Malcador to the Leviathan (which happens to be my favorite vehicle design in 40k) is top notch.
I guess not malfred, just a case I would of liked to have done more freehand really, need to practice it.
I'm now getting on with another Leman Russ now, most of the early work done, just need to get the sponson and hull gun assemblies done so I can get them painted and inserted into the tank.
Also I'm starting to experiment with something else after I had a little GS left over, no prizes for guessing what though!
Just a little progress, I collected enough bases together over the past couple of months for the upcomming change to IG Heavy Weapons teams, and now I'm putting the pieces together and rebasing, I had planned to finish the second Russ first, but I'll come back to that after now.
Well little bit more progress, I've done a little more work on the 'Helblade' turret I started on a while back, an Inferno Gun armed Baneblade, in order to get it ready to use tommorrow, that involved adding a sheath to the end of the barrel with holes punched in it using a leather punch, adding igniters from Cadian flamers to each barrel, and assembling the basis of the turret, still some tidying and detailing to add though.
I've also finished rebasing the first battery of Lascannons, it's old work on a new base so just the one pic, the rest are on my blog, second Lascannon battery is on the way... but I ran outa Bedab Black
I should get on with Praetorian's, but Im back with the titan now, painting done on the rear interior (forgive the use of flash but lights now poor) with the fore interior next.
Amazing stuff, so clean and crisp. I don't know if this has been asked but, do you have a model to represent the color Sgt. from the movie "Zulu"? I ask because, he is the toughest S.O.B in the whole movie (and didn't win a V.C.). I can't wait for more!
I've not checked this blog for a while but I wanted to check, do you have thoughts on the Wargames Factory colonial Brits? I'm hoping they'll go ahead with some other projects in their Liberty League and want to hear more about their quality.
Col.Gravis don't you love all the huge sprew leftovers on this model. It took me two days to cut mine off.
What titan legion are you doing? It has been a while I mite have forgot. What did you use for the base?
cool paint so far
I don't Ein Windir, but now you mention thats something that should be corrected!
Kid_Kyoto, from comparisons I've seen the Wargames Factory models wont work if used in conjunction with GW models as they are on a different scale (heroic and true scale), if you were to use them alone of course it could work but Lasguns could be a problem, as would there use if you play regularly in GW stores or at many official events.
sonofruss tell me about it lol, the pour/vents left where the main exhausts/vents go on the back of the model were especially nasty, no idea on which legion at the moment, possibly just something of my own creation I'll see when I actually come to putting paint on exterior. The base is a Clock Face Blank I picked up on ebay for a couple of quid, it's about 6mm thick and is about 19cm's across, could do with being a little bigger perhaps but will do the job.
I did think about that sonofruss, I guess I took the easy way out in the end really lol
Autocannons, Rockets and Gatlings Guns are all rebased at last I'm glad to say after the weekends work.
Secondly here's dilemma for me, I've started work converting the Death Korps Commissar drawing his sword, turning it into one Colonel Gravis, Regimental Commander of the Praetorian 4th, I've not done much so far, simply doing a head swap, and removing the breathing appartus (the arm is only attached with bluetak for the moment), I've found myself becomming rather fond of him with a bare head though, do you think I should add a Pith Helmet, either on the head, on the base or not at all?
There are more pictures of the Heavy Weapons, and a poll for Colonel Gravis on my blog.
First of all, awesome job! I've been following your blog for tips on making a Praetorian army, Which I am doing thanks to the Wargames Factory British Zulu soldiers. You've been a big inspiration for me.
Second of all, crap, I had the exact same idea for my HSO. Oh well, great minds think alike I suppose.
In the grim darkness of the far future officers never wear helmets! Really nice stuff. I'd be tempted to leave the helmet of the model but give him an adjutant or servant of the swarthy persuasion to hold it instead. I'm now seriously considering Zulu guard based on some historical 28mm. Brilliant stuff. Or maybe Zulu Orks hmm.

First off, great work.
Second, I would say that the ideal English-style regimental commander would be the type of person who did not put himself above his men. He might act more valiantly than they do in the field, and may hold them to standards higher than the ones they hold themselves to, but he would never ask them to do something he himself would not do. He would be the kind of guy that stood on ceremony where appropriate, but quickly tossed it aside when it wasn't. The guy that wears the ridiculous, largely useless, helmet into battle, but doesn't really care when it comes off. So yeah, I think modeling it on the base would be appropriate.
I'm going to second the Adjutant holding the helmet, but one up it with having the adjutant be a Painted Dandy sort to contrast with the hardened soldier officer of Col. Gravis. You know the kind, the noble born ones whose daddies bought them a commission and don't expect officers to actually have to get dirty.
Work on a pith helmetted head sprue is underway proper, this is an early WIP version, no jaw or mouth(!), it's actually had quite a few changes to it now, I was'nt happy with the left eye or the original mouth which I did after this picture so both are changed now, I'll get some more pics of that soon. The helmet meanwhile is a cast of a single master that I'll be using for all the heads on the sprue.
I've also agreed to take on a commission for a squad of Praetorian Ogryns, I've a couple on the go of which this is one, early WIP.
With the Colonel I might suggest having a broken Pith helmet on his base, making it look like it took a round and he got angry and is just about to lead a bayonet charge
Bit of an update I'm quite excited about, though nothing too special about this on first appearances.
However it is infact a quick demo of these bits,
TrooperPX (formally of the now defunct Phoenix Club) is now casting these up for sale at a price of $4.00 for ten through Bartertown, there are more details on my blog.
To celebrate a bit I'm also giving away a single sample set on my blog here.
Oh and here the finished Colonel Gravis conversion
brilliant model my friend, it just captures the movement of the character perfectly and an ace paint job to top it off! (skin tone is great!, whats your method?).
Ohhh livingston i presume, go out for a cup of tea and slap of mustard, ohhh cherio
But seriosly i love the hole asthetic of the force, job well done. but the reds look a bit dull, have you considered using a red wash on your infantry.
i love preatorian guard if i had the time, and didnt have any projects in the works, and didnt like chaos as much, i would start them. so basically, i wouldnt, but i love the style! and you've painted them masterfully. you did the army proud
as pith helmets are concerned i really dont see anyone better, looked into your blog and google is takes you as the mainguy to look ifor when searching for pithhelmet, so consider yourself a celeb^^
My first proper go at sculpting was some Praetorian Roughriders, I was pleased with them at first, but never quite happy the arms were too fat amongst other flaws. I then got involved with a project for the now defunct Phoenix Clubs Praetorian Roughrider Project which was later produced by TrooperPX on Bartertown. They were never completed in full though, and were still quite static.
After that I converted up a mounted Roughrider Officer, which lead me to this - a new Roughrider sculpt.
As with the previous two versions (my own and the abortive Phoenix Club set), I'm making use of the WFB Empire Outrider Horses. This time though I'm also making use of the Pith Helmeted Head set which I sculpted for Secret Weapon Miniatures. The Torso just needs a little more detailing, the boots need adding, and the first set of arms still have a fair way to go - the one in the picture is nearly done though. I'm also thinking of turning out a scabbard and holster as accessories to join the Lance components I've already finished.
cool an update^^ may i askl you when you sculpt a new model, do you use GS all the way through? or do you use a "thing" to get a basic shape and then flesh it out to get the details?
i recently started with GS work and i am now really curious as how professionals like you are starting such a project...
I tend to sculpt components of a figure rather then a whole figure, thus the torso is essentially just a lump of GS, while limbs, and legs I use a armature first and just GS upon that. I just some cheap and fairly sturdy garden wire bent to shape, which you can see at the wrist (not the white bit) and at the stumps of legs.
as you mention the wire...when you are done with your sculpt how do you get rid of the surplus wire and how do you cut away it without damaging the, like here in the recent project, the feet...? i always wondered about that as many sculpters use these and i plan on doing so too in my next work...
Not a problem, well not to make it sound silly, but all I'll do is cut it slightly shorter then I'll need before I start sculpting those bits, the legs for example I'll snip off around where it would cross the harness of the horse before I start working on the boots.
Time for a bit of an update, well a little bit, a few Praetorian bits an pieces which I've finished.
A Cyclops Demolition vehicle from FW with Operator, though I'm just using it to represent a Demolition Charge in Veteran or Special Weapons Squads.
One Manticore.
The Pyskers for a Pysker Battle Squad, started out with one I did a while back (far right), so finished up another 8 to bulk out the unit. Just need to settle on something for the Overseer now.
Right oh Viktor, top left working clockwise its the left (rein holding) arms, lance tips, right (lance holding) arms, torsos and legs. Bits are all as in the picture of 5 sets laid out.
Will keep an eye open for a PM from you.
Optio, thanks very much!
Just quickly, something else I'm working on, finally getting a painted Chimera sorted.
So how are you planning to sell these guys? Any plans on a specific venue or webstore? I'm at the moment intrigued sadly I'm not financially solvent enough to be interested yet.
was ill for quite some time now and i was thus out of a position to give you said promised answer....in short you can count me under interrested indeed under the non-obligationary rule^^
Right, I've gone a bit further with getting these done now.
The lances went together nicely, just needing the arms and lance tips drilled for the plastic rod of the lance shaft.
Next I did come across a couple of issues. The first is there is a flaw on some models along the mold line where the leg joins the tunic, nothing major and as a little greenstuff filling is ideally needed anyway on component joins, not a huge issue.
The picture also highlights that some filling is required under the legs on some of the horses, not essential, but looks better. The other point I'd raise is that due to slight differences between the saddles on the different horses, I did need to push apart or together the legs a little on some to get them to fit snuggly, the metal does have suffieient give for this.
These points aside, I'm pretty damned pleased with the finished result, now just got to get the rest of the first unit done.
Sageheart, yes I'm only selling the parts, the first batch has already been assigned to pre-orders which have been made already, I'm expecting a second batch fairly soon though. Drop me a PM if your interested.
Very nice indeed. Are their uniforms historically accurate, say the light company for instance or is it one of your own invention? Either way fantastic job.
Thanks Lenny. Yes they vaguely historically acurate, the regular Infantry with their Blue facings match to the British 4th Foot, the Lancers match the 17th Lancers in the 1870's as do the blue and red of the Artillery crews.
Finally finished a Chimera, my transports will all be nominally assigned to the Praetorian Life Guards, which in my case are Storm Trooper equivilents (so guess what I'm slowly sculpting a master for at the moment! ). In the background I've written each Hive on Praetorian maintains a single regiment of Life Guards, in my case they will be from the seat of planetary governor, Hive Victorium (had to be done!).
The Gatling Gun (Heavy Bolter) can also be swapped for a Heavy Flamer.
They are a pain sometimes Rawson it has to be said, but I have a love-hate relationship with metals. They chip if you look at em funny sometimes, but I far prefer working with metal to plastic.
Right then, now for the squad to ride in the Chimera.
The Life Guards (Storm Trooper equivilents), are going to be a bit of a long term project, first off I want to sculpt a master dolly, based largely on the original concept conversions (below) I did a few years back.
First up I'm going to sculpt a dolly, this I'll get cast up in a small quantity before creating a number of different poses from these. The resultant models I'll then have cast up, both for myself, and as with the Roughriders to sell. For now the breast plate is almost done, next the back plate and tunic.
How have I not stumbled across this before!? Great stuff, love the Praetorian! I have 120+ Mordian models, being just a head swap difference, I must say that they are a great line of figures.
Your sculpting and painting skills make me green with envy. I look forward to more!
very impressive Praetorian IG. reflecting the pre-Khaki brits very accurately. while hollywood fails (Brits artillery crew wear the same dress as line inf. instead of blue ones!)
well did I really copy your colourscheme into my IG army? they ain't no praetorians, nor cadians.... i'm yet to write its backstory. the concepts are shifted from space pirates -> biker gangs (being mounted infantry instead of cavs) -> 'central government army' for feudal world (modelled after Cromwell's army) -> 21st army (inspired by the Brotherhood of Nod... as they appeared in C&C Renegade)
The Nod troops is the finalized concepts.
Few hints for background
- it will be based on the dancer's dress from one of the most acclaimed Kylie Minogue's music video
- they are a descendants of Irish settlers. and share the similar backgrounds as Drookian Fein Guard.
- their homeworld is (recently) a knight world. once it was a feudal world with some post-apocalyptical techs.

This is an awesome conversion, I'm working on a Mordian Iron Guard force and I can see doing something similar with a Mordian head swap. I'm really digging your work and will be placing an order for some of those rough rider conversion kits as they will work beautifully for my Mordians!
I just thought I'd share the new sculpts I'm releasing very shortly through my own webstore, all of them are 28mm heroic so compatible with GW Cadians and other simialrly scaled minis. All the components will be cast in white metal.
Carapace Armoured Life Guard Torso
Revised Roughrider Torso - Will replace the existing torso supplied with my earlier Roughrider sculpts as shown in the second picture.
Heavy Laser Rifle
In addition I've a new Infantry torso, no picture as of yet.
Lots more on the way, including some new Life Guard heads a practice piece for which is below, rifle holding arms with epualettes and something for when you need heavier firepower...
Meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
1. Are those lifeguards a cavalry or 'mounted heavy infantry' (Stormtroops)?
2. What are problems you've discovered on Empire troops with cuirass models and you judged that it is a no go and you decided to make a new cuirass torso instead?
gosh... one of these days i really have to make a huge investment...but i think when you do a complete set of footsloggers so that no one needs to raid a bitz box anymore then i will do business with you in earnest! that HLR looks plain sweet... and the helmet ...and the cuirass...aww gosh...
Lone Cat, I'm working towards a Heavy Infantry kit, the torso's and guns will be in the first release, I'm working on the heads and arms with epualettes to go with them. That will just leave legs. I'm not immeadiately planning on doing those as Cadian and similar 28mm heroic legs will do the job nicely, but its something I'll release later on.
However, Life Guard cavalry are also quite possible by replacing the Roughrider kit's torso with the Life Guard torso, and then adding the heads once available. Thats the reason I've got for components in the end rather then single mini's as I'd originally planned.
Siegg, thank you! There are a few tutorials on my blog, but not many, but I'll add to that in the future.
Viktor, as mentioned arms are on the way, which will just leave you short on legs, I will do though, but it may be a little while. The next few releases will probably be the heads, arms and a Gatling Gun with carriage and wheels, the later a work in progress of which is below, which I commissioned, will also be available seperately. There are other things also in the works though.
lil bit backstory on a 'revised' Praetorians. please
1. Materials that makes a pith helmet. is it still either hard leather, denim, iron/steel or any 'modern' ballistic polymer? the two latter materials provide protections against sharpnells (like Cadian helmets do) but anything else doesn't seem to protect wearer from it.
2. About gatlings. are they all handcrancked or powered (by external energy sources) like Miniguns?
3. engines that powers your armored units. will it be steam powered or internal combustion ones?
A. If it is steam engine. what are its purposed fuel? (wood, coal, or bunker fuel oil?)
B. If it is internal combustion ones. Are they spark-based system (like Gasoline engines) or are they Rudolf Diesel ones?
The casts are in and the stock is uploaded onto my new webstore ready for sale, presenting Curious Constructs, http://www.curiousconstructs.co.uk!
Unfortunately there was a bit of a disaster with the Heavy Laser Rifle, which means I need to build a new master, so thats going to be delayed, I'm hopeful that I'll get that, and the Life Guard heads done for mid July, but time will tell, hopefully the Gatling Gun will be ready by then as well.

1. The 'polymer' pith helmet sounds like another "made in china" NVA helmets that becomes widely available here in Thailand. actually i have this 'polymer pith helmets' with that Indochine 'colonial' design. bought long time ago but rarely wear it. have you ever own any?
2. So you discovered that metals make a better materials than resin?
3. While praetorian tanks/vehicles are usually painted in Red/Blue scheme, you've chose gray. What are the perceptions of the troops towards these armors? do they generally view them as a mobile artillery pieces (thus filling the role of Horse Artillery) ? or as one form of cavalry?
GB was once painted all field guns in grey. is it codex grey? fortress grey? or SW grey?
4. History course on 'British Colonial pith helmet' design please
4.1 Materials: I don't think that the colonial designs do have any shellproof values that's why Brits introduce steel kettle helmet.
4.2 Protection: If. by the late Victorian era. percussion shells are less fragmented than ones in the WW1, and ideals of 'antiballistic body armor' has been dropped off (i believed that Cuirassiers were began to phased out by then. replaced with carabinier units instead as rifled carbines become as accurate as full size rifles). what are the protections does this pith helmet provides? is it still provide any protections from blades when fighting cavs?
5. And if I am to add a section of Leman Russ MBT into my army in the future. which of the two paintschemes do you think it fits the looks of my army? http://www.fastdicerolling.com/forum/topic/29-lone-cat-1st-imperial-guard-army-wip/ A. grey
B. catachan green
C. typical praetorian... AKA. Red and Blue
D. what do you say?.....................
Gravis! I've been a big fan of your Praetorians and their conversions for a long time. I've come into some recently and will be taking an even closer look at yours for great ideas!
dude them be some cool praetorians, very good
only criticism is how their way too clean, maybe weather them up or something but to me they look a bit dull
Novelist, I'm a fan of the clean factory fresh look, which I've always felt was not entirely inappropriate for the Praetorian regiment, that said I am planning on weathering my vehicles a little more as part of my revamp of the army - while the infantry are getting some improved highlighting etc.
For the moment though, the Leviathans back from my mates, basecoat work done.
It's been a long time since I worked on my own Praetorian Imperial Guard, time to reboot!
I've collected about 10k points of Praetorians over the years, most of which is unpainted admittedly, at the moment I'm working mostly on my own models though. At the moment I'm toying with parting with some of the unpainted Praetorians, leaving just a company for GW tournaments, and replacing them with these new models.
I've got two main projects on the go at the moment, first are my Praetorian Life Guards, Storm Troopers. I originally converted some several years ago based on Cadian plastics with Praetorian head swaps, but when the new Scions came out I knew they would be perfect so I sculpted up a new head, had the masters of this back from the caster last week and assembled a quick test model - now just waiting for the production mould to be spun so I can get on with a couple of squads worth.
My other plan is Firing Line Infantry, so I've been working on these, just need to finish some arms now for Sergeants and these will also be off to the casters. I've done a single piece torso with gun levelled, kneeling and standing legs, which match up to the heads I've done before!
well, this is good timing. Im a big fan of your Praetorians. I just managed to find a large batch of them and am starting a new army myself. Im looking forward to see you finish some more of these guys.
