It can't be anything Warhammer related... He doesn't have a hand raised up in the air or anything. Thought he might be screaming, I can't tell.

Its entirely DoW 2. Though yes, the silhouette isn't raising his hand or screaming, it is in fact a picture of a crimson fists captain with powerfist. I remember that one from a WD issue a few years ago which had an article showing how a guy converted one with that pic as the inspiration.

Yep, I'm only buying this if it's at least as good as COH. I love seeing my dudes duck-and-cover, and with all the different types of cover 40k has, it would make me swoon.

Also because I wonder what type of animation they'll give to space marines hitting dirt.

I don't see why they wouldn't have built their own new engine...the CoH engine is what, almost 2 years old now?

Don't get me wrong, the CoH engine is damn good. I just wouldn't be surprised if they brought something 'bigger and better' to the table

Nah, it's too early for the 40K MMO to come out. They've been talking about a DoW sequel for awhile now that would let them implement 'Nids. I think we've got at least two years before we see the 40K MMO on the horizon.

Doubt it will be the MMO...but if it is the beta, which it could be, then that would be awesome!

Maybe it's Bloodbowl, you know, with the football manager and stuff...

I really don't think that is the MMO or a shooter. Dawn of War was a success with real-time-strategy and they will stick to it. At least with the title dawn of war.

CoH was/is a blast and was the first time a strategy game topped starcraft imo. Dawn of war was nice but not as "complete" as Company of Heroes was.

It is NOT the 40k MMO or an FPS. The MMO is slated for release in 2010. It's Dawn of War 2 which THQ has been talking about for quite some time.

Space Marines do not hit the dirt. They smite it, while screaming and raising their fists and pointing their swords at the sky.

On a more serious note, I'm very much worried that this new DoW will reduce my tabletop playing time by at least half. And painting... well, its always the first thing to go. Guess I'd better get the brushes out now, 'cause they're getting no love this summer.

While I hope there is a DoW2 coming soon, neither of these videos have anything to do with it. They are both from a lesser known game called Warhammer 40k: Glory in Death for the ngage. Someone simply edited the videos by cutting out the beginning and end, then adding in a "Coming Winter 2007" at the end. The original space marine video can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smzoxku4Ijo

Squad Command for the DS/PSP never had Orks. These videos aren't for that. I never heard anything for the ngage or whatever the crap that is. These are probably just preliminary videos for DoW2 that might not have been meant for circulation.

P.S. Squad Command was a great game if you're into top down turn based stratagy games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Advance Wars.

I'll be working all the GWGT's and out visiting others like the Quake City Rumble in San Fran (shameless plug in case anyone wants to take me out for sushi/beer).

To be honest, I enjoy putting on a well-run show more than playing in a tournament (3-4 games in a day is just not quite my slice of hobby enjoyment anymore)((waits for quips form coworkers about actually having a completed army to play in said tournament...)).

Er, sorry we hijacked your DOW2 thread.

either way looks like I'll need a new computer soon! Nothing quite so satisfying as watching an orkish horde swarm the runts 'oomiez into the ground. Will certainly be more satisfying to watch with a shiny new engine!

Saw this on EOW from the Something Awful forums:

Finally Dawn of War 2 has been confirmed!

First details come from a Belgium magazine "pc gameplay #144".

-Two races revealed Orks and Space marines, more to come in future previews.
-Full co-op campaigns for both races, choose the missions you want to do to progress in campaign
-Squad limit cap of 6 squads, unclear if for singleplayer only or for both sp and mp.
-Upgradable gear for squad leaders similar to DC and SS.
-More animations
-Uses Essence engine (as in COH) with better havoc physics
-buildings can be garrisoned
-Proper scale, dreadnoughts are now bigger and can trample on orks.
-Contextual speech, for instance the Ork warlord will exclaim that the enemy leader has a thunder hammer etc.
-Destructable environments.
-lots of violence, parts of men can be ripped off, orks can be crushed etc.
-better AI similar to COH, squads will find immediate cover etc.

More details coming soon!

Release date: early 2009

Also: Dreadnoughts can trample Orks!!!

Also wonder how many in each expansion.

Hope to see tyranids released relatively early, if only so we don't have to hear people complain about them not being around....

My biggest problem with a DoW sequel is the ol 'Reset Button' syndrome.

We've spent 4 years getting to Marines/Chaos/Guard/SoBs/Orks/Eldar/Dark Eldar/Tau/Necrons as full races... and now we go back to what, 3 or 4 (Marines, Orks and maybe Chaos or Eldar or both).

So it's just like resetting DoW and giving it a face list... oh and making the squad-cap even smaller.

I just don't see the point.

If there are 4 it will be all gold.

I think the great thing about DOW has been that with each upgrade they rebalanced all the armies making each of them (relatively) fresh to play again.

To use a new engine and really pump up the graphics will be great.
And I guess the minimum requirements mean I'll have to use the wife's new laptop rather than my 3 and a half year old desktop...

I don't think German understand much of it, as it is written in Dutch...

But anyway here are the headlights:
You can't command more than 6 squad
Squads are more personalized, ie. named and equipped with individual weapons. This is to make you feel more attached to your squads.
You are awarded special equipment when you complete missions. They mention Thunderhammer, a flamer and a "supression rifle", which is an assault cannon I think.
Buildings and other scenery can now be destroyed.
The games AI is based on that of Company of Heroes and adapted to DoW.
They have been working on DoW 2 from September 2006 with 55 developers, which includes the original DoW team and some Company of Heroes teammembers.

Sorry, no mention of other races than Orks and Space Marines...

If "scaled units" means what I think it means, 1 squad of 5 marines is equivalent to 20 or more tyranids.

40k WAS Starcraft. Gw dumped it last-minute so they had to change all the races and names.

No. 40k existed before starcraft, but Starcraft was originally a strategy game sponsored by GW. GW pulled out last-minute, and the company had to make lots of changes to be able to release the game.

And i bet GW realize that as their largest marketing mistake ever.

If you don't trust me, simply look at he Terrans, Protoss and Zerg, or should i say Space Marines, Eldar and Tyrannids?
Any similarities?

It's actually a game balance thing; it helps prevent spamming units and sending them to their doom by making them more valuable to keep alive. Company of Heroes does this.

Is that how you were supposed to play COH? I kept my guys alive for the most part because of the pain it was to transport new guys to the front. But, I treated them like meat unless it was a mission where I couldn't afford to lose them.

Ah, the classic reaction of a diehard PC gamer. So Pavlovian.

Well I already have a computer and a card to run this, but I would be picking it up any way. I really liked Dow but CoH is fantastic as well. The two of them together ought to be just great. It sounds alot like they are going back to a "Chaos Gate" sort of thing just real time rather than turned based. The teaser flick was cool, sort of wish the Nob would have smacked the marine around abit before he got brained but we all know the marines are the fav. I for one will be looking after this game.

PCGamer released their article and nuclear pogostick from SA posted scans:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s129/Nuclear_Pogostick/DOW1.png

replace # with 1-8 or BP for the other pages.

The rumored "heavy dreadnought" looks like a furioso done in a warmachine aesthetic - very top heavy.

I'm very disappointed that the company of heroes' varied forms of cover won't be carried over. They said they will stick with the "basic form" of cover. Too bad, that was one of two reasons I was going to play this game. The other was that they dove for cover and sought better cover as needed. I'll be playing Empire: Total War when this comes out.

Don't know. You're barking up the wrong tree.

I just read the article in the computer mag and I've come to this conclusion.
The main races will be Space Marine,Ork,Chaos,Nids.
The guy who wrote the article obvisiously had very little knowledge of 40k
(calling dreds Behemoth mechs,General Horus and few other things like that),that makes me think he was working off info givin to him by the game company
like a cheat sheet.
In the artcle it mentions chaos and nids a few times,(not that there was a confirmation or pics but the author had more info on them than the other races that were not mentioned.

Elusive wrote:No.

Ah no. Warcraft was originally built around the Warhammer franchise, but negotiations were never completed and the game was released with new names glued over the top of Warhammer properties. Though GW was a little pissed about this, their legal claims were more than a little iffy and there was always the chance of a counter claim for dropping out of negotiations made in good faith, so they just let the thing slide.

Starcraft was never made in collaboration with GW. The inspirations are obvious, but then GW’s business model is built around taking established archtypes and placing them in a unique form and context. To take elves, power armoured superhumans and bugs from beyond the universe isn’t a unique creation, but to put them in a universe with unique elements and characters and make a playable miniature line out of it is a unique creation. Similarly, taking the same elves, power armoured humans and bugs and adding your own unique elements and characters and making a playable computer game out of it is also a unique creation.
