Not terrible but not as good as I had hoped either. Don't like how it looks all chubby/saggy, and the armour plates on the back look a bit off. Also, SKULLZ for the lose.

I can see a lot of squiggoths being converted from it though, and some D'n'D monsters too.

Seriously, it looks like it's Undead! And like it is sick! That's just sad.

New Stegadon @ 2008/11/02 19:40:50

Post by: mothman_451

alot of that has to do with the drab paint scheme
its still promising and we havent even seen the other options(3 different versions of it can be made, one with skinks, one with the negine of the gods and one as a mount)

New Stegadon @ 2008/11/02 19:48:27

Post by: Kanluwen

I LOVE IT!

It looks like a pretty good model; the Undead thing I think is because of the fleshy bits visible linking the frill to the head. And maybe a bit of the facial features looking saggy.
But otherwise, that is friggin' gorgeous.

New Stegadon @ 2008/11/02 19:49:29

i love it
will make a good squiggoth with very little work

Looks nice and big, if it's a plastic model it will most certainly be a good conversion model for some odd project.

New Stegadon @ 2008/11/02 19:59:04

Post by: mothman_451

it is plastic
i also like the skinks on top looks like some nice poses, could possibly use them for jav skinks

New Stegadon @ 2008/11/02 20:07:43

that is _cool_. I do not think it is as big as it looks. Or maybe there are two heads.

remove the bone plates around the neck and head, clean it up a little, give him some 'eavy armour, add a howdah, instant squiggoth

Krootceratops with a glandular disorder, either that or the sculptor is a paleontologist furrie with a Bea Arthur fetish. I am very disappointed in this model, the puppy looked better.

turned out nice if you ask me. beefy and vicious looking. loads better than the regular "stolen-from-the-kids-dinosaur-book" design. obviously its still close to that, but i think the changes make it work.

Post by: Clang

looks more like a triceratops than a stegadon to me, but I'm not complaining - i was expecting some rather dull generic dino model, and at least this thing has some character. They're going to sell quite a few to Ork Snakebite players; it'll make a cool counts-as battlewagon

New Stegadon @ 2008/11/03 02:34:51

Post by: JD21290

clang, its a little bit too small for a wagon, could get away with using it as a trukk though

i like that idea

true snakebite style, big squiggoth dragging a large howdah on tracks, lots of gunz

I see the poor enslaved stega-beastie that is going to be carrying my Dark Elves Cauldron of Blood onto the battlefield. A little filing and sculpting to make the platform look elvish. Remove the support beams on the sides and replace them with tethers that are hooked into the flesh. Cauldron and witches on top and some beastmasters prodding it along.

I like the new look, although it is sort of busy as far as features are concerned. It does look a bit saggy in the legs, but the last one had that problem too. I think it's an improvement as far as fitting with the modern range is concerned, but the old one had that sort of campy"I'm totally not a triceratops, honest!" look to it.

Am I the only one reminded of Tyranids when I see this? something about the head.

it does look pretty "saggy", which is to say, something like an elderly elephant. However, if it is plastic, this may be easy to rectify.

Roll out some snakes of green stuff. point one end, put a radius bend on it. Roll out a small pancake about the same radius as a pencil eraser. build up the ends of the pancake and put the tusks in it.. then place this on the Stegadon anywhere you like.

2 thoughts:

1) It has always bugged me that GW sold a triceratops model and called it a stegadon. stegadon is so close in name to stegosaurus. It just felt like GW was trying to confuse kids.

2) an army of dinosaurs riding dinosaurs is only one thing away from being so much awesome that your general is named "awesomeosaurus" and just placing your army on the table counts as a win.......

Brontosaurus was unfortunately an accident. It was an apatosaurus (I think that's the spelling) with it's head on the end of it's tail rather than it's kneck. It never existed. But I agree, a 25mm sauropod would rox0r.
I love the carnasaur, and the salamanders. But the stegadon doesn't do it for me. The more I look at it, the more I just think...chubby.

Ultimately, I dig it. And in plastic? Fantastic.

Somebody said the critter was more "modern" and I agree, fits in better with the other ranges. And like the carnosaur, it's a nice mash of real dinos instead of any single one, vs the old stegasaur/cow thing. The face / expression is a low point, but the howdah is pretty sweet. Much more expanded, integrated bolter, room for the skinks to a) fit and b) do stuff?! I wonder how the other versions will look.

As to the comments about "SKULLZ, NOES!" I actually think lizardmen are one of the few - chaos, undead - armies that ought to have them around, particularly as decorations. Coming from a quasi-Aztek fluff background I think it works as a decorative aesthetic

I think that Stegadon needs some Botox...

Honestly though little disappointed; if I thought there might be optional heads or something along those lines I'd think this is model was great however I really doubt its going to have that many options for the main stegadon body/heads
though I could be wrong considering the rumor of the two different Stegadon choices (special choice and rare choice) I'm hoping so.

I think GW should go ahead and make an Eldar Exodite army. I think Exodites would be a great addition to 40k and would also be a very balanced army because the inherent lameness of elves cancels out the awesomeness of dinosaurs with lasers thus maintaining balance in the game and also in life and the universe. Lichemaster on Pyramid Vault posted a better picture with an alternate head. It looks worse than the first though the howdah part is awsome, if nothing else for the bits. I think the head is entirely too small and short, I will be looking for a similarly sized dino to replace the head. Elusive used to have a link to nice resin dinos that were reasonably priced. Maybe he will post them again.

Yeah it looks kinda tarded....but I still like it. It's weird. Not nearly as much as the old artwork that showed a berserk steggie charging with skinks holding on for dear life, but I still like it somehow. The only thing that REALLY puts me off is how fat the bastard is. He has no ground clearance. I'll have to sand down his belly just to put him on a scenic base.

I like it quite a bit. Good flesh detail, the howdah is excellent, and the poses for the skinks inside are pretty nice as well.

Wow. Thanks, Mr Obvious.

I know what the "steggie" looks like. I remember rumors that said that the kit will be able to make the Reg. Steggie, HQ Steggie and the Engine of the Gods. The original posted picture is what the standard steggie looks like. So, my question is, in the above picture, is what the EotG looks like?

Guess I misunderstood you there. As far as the EOTG goes, I thought it was mounted on a different dino. That lloks like the same steggie with a slightly consternated old man look, not the raging, get off my lawn old man look. The stargate on the back of the howdah is interesting though;it may just be a stylistic piece referring to the Aztec( or is it Mayan) sun calender that was basically a stone circle.

The new picture/angle sure doesn't help...

Lasers.

Do you hear me GW? Make it so!

They should have 2 wounds each, too. That way they really have something going for them.

I remember those toys! They where literally the plastic dinosaurs you see everywhere with plastic lazers on them. They where awesome!

On to the Stegadon, Lizardmen have always been on my short list of Fantasy armies. If I had the cash, this mini might push me over.

Man- still loving the Steggie. Really looks like an ancient war beast in the Warhammer world. The last steggie was great, but it looked to much like a real dinosaur instead of a lizardman fantasy creature. While that's not a huge negative, I do see the logic in warhammer-izing the stegadon concept.

Looks too small for a squiggoth conversion. Does anyone know the dimensions?

Maybe OK for a "counts as" battlewagon for a snakebite themed ork army.

That is I believe the Enging of the Gods.

Read somewhere that it makes 3 Variants.

Actually, no. I think thats a Skink Character riding it. The additional piece looks more like a throne when you look at the Skink wearing the Skull....

And indeed, the text next to it is where I read about the 3 Variants. D'oh!

Hmm, a couple of things.

I cant see the DHD, can anyone else?
Also, he shouldnt stand right infront of the stargate like that, if there's an incoming wormhole, he will be vaporised by the unstable vortex!

Clearly this figure shows that the new lizzies will have a "web way portal" style of deployment
