today i had some time and started with a project i wanted to realize since quite a while. - a remote controled randraider in 40k-size.
.
....
it'll be the new redeemer type.
some minutes ago i almost finished the left side.
pics will follow, but for the moment i think a video shows best what i'm talking about.
so what do you think???.
.

warpcrafter wrote:That's really cool. Now you can get real pleasure from tank shock! Next you should make an RC baneblade with a paintball gun in the turret. Blammo!
-
for the moment i'll equip it with just 2 motors for the tracks and leds in the raiders lights.
the next one might become a ramp that can be opened and closed remotely and a controlable gunner. - but as i've said ...: for the first landraider. which in a way is my testmodel i'll be satisfied if the tracks will move fine.
.
and the costs:
i think ~ 85€.
I would SO take that to a tournament where no one knows what I did to it. Every time I turned my back, I'd move it a little bit. By the end of the game your opponent would think he's losing his mind, continuously asking you, "Did you see that? Dude, your land raider just moved." To which I'd simply respond, "I have NO idea what you're talking about... Maybe you should switch to fantasy, I think you've been hitting the 40k a bit too much."

nice work, reminds me of the time i made a R/C looted Rhino back in 3rd edition... ahh the memories... so are the turrets gonna get Remote controlled???
Nice. I'd had a similar idea a while ago but not the $ to spend on it, but I did invest the thought of planning into it.
Something I'd suggest from my own experience with RC vehicles and tanks:
With some much of the tracks running inside the hull, you really need to be able to remove the outer side plates to access the tracks if they'd need to be repaired. Build it so that every part of the RC equipment is accessible. What good is making an RC Landraider if after a few months it breaks and you have no way to fix it without destroying the model to get into it?
If you were really wanting to invest the time and $ into a project like this, you could get a multi-channel radio set up so you can run multiple servos to move the gun sponsons.
Are you using a sherman tank kit for your set up? I've been looking into trying to do this with part from an air-soft tank, but I wasn't sure if all the motors would be able to fit in the LR chais. Looks like you found one that makes a good fit. Can I ask which kit/ parts it was?
yes of course ... .
it was a sherman 1:30 i found at amazon.
the tracks are a bit too long but if you arange them like i did it will work for a landraider.
You're a bit crazy aren't you Bob? That Land Raider kicks ass already and is going to freak out your opponents when it all of a sudden starts racing across the battlefield!
But erm...now you know you have to do something similar with that Titan of yours right?
Woot! Been waiting for someone to do this for a while. Has probably been done, but not that I've seen. Even better to see a WIP!
I always wanted to have electrical motors in tank turrets; bang up a controller with a different channel for each tank. Remote movement makes it so much better!
BTW, everyone in my house wanted to know what the 'screaming woman' sound was. So much for stealthing it on your opponent...
If you can, reduce the gearing? I'm sure it will make the mechanism last longer and actually look more realistic in movement. Tanks aren't fast. Superb work!
Wow...just wow. If you ever do another one please please please please so a article with step by step for us "technically" challenged" folks. I would LOVE to make one of those.

Great job!
Awsome idea XD best part is if they find out you've rced it and you try your trick you could get disqualified.
Congrats on the land raider. Can't wait to see the finished one.
karlfranz wrote:it would be amazing if someone made 5 and set them all to the tanks to the same remote and pushed them foward
true apocolypse
hehe ... scroll to the end of this post and you'll find a link to what i built today .... - that's apocalypse ...
jep'ray wrote:what R/C tank are you using for the guts? i noticed the Sherman tank wheels but what scale and company??
sherman from heng long 1:30.
Deathmachine wrote:this is the best idea ive seen.
thanks.

Though...wait is that a heavy bolter on a LRC? tsk tsk
So on a scale of 1-10, how doable is this project? My LRC is sitting semi-assembled on my desk, and this looks like a killer project for the spring.
-
hmm hard to say. the second one i made took me only a tenth in time ...
so i think 7,5.
on top ... - that's a melta ... ...
here's what i did today .... i finaly started with the baneblade.
.
Tri wrote:ok one question how many side sponsons are you going to put on? and if 4 are you going to have them all moving? together or on their own?
EDIT
Oh and MY GOD I CAN BLEIVE HOW SKILLED YOU ARE. THIS IS EPIC ... >fan boy mode off<
.
well ... currently all my channels available are already used by other functions.
but maybe i'll integrate the battereies in the external fueldrums to free some space for a second 5-channel reciever inside.
than i'd have enought channels to rotate the laserturrets, integrate a laserpointer in the maingun, put a rotating antenna on top, and maybe also move the siesponsons lower weapons for a few degrees on each side.
today i almost finished the cabling for the lights.
after sednign this post i'll visit my local RC-dealer to buy 5 more microservos, a laserunit, some connectors, some reistors and maybe also a mini searchlight with about 1cm diameter to replace the searchlight in the main turrets left side.
.
Winsauce. A random idea is have the assault ramp move up and down like Model Collector said, and have a spring mechanism so when it does open, a springloaded terminator (or failing that, a packet of tic-tacs) fires into the face of the enemy, last thing they'll expect, trust me. Especially if you use tic-tacs
ah i guess would have to make your own circuitry ... or use a fancy bit of gearing ... i used to have one where one motor would move a gear so it came in contact with different things and lock them in place ... want ether i'm happy to see if i can dig up copies
here's a technical question... what are you using for batteries? Ni-cads or dry cells (regular batt) cause your gonna have to open it up to change batteries if its dry cell, how about using Ni-cad/li-po battery and just hide a charging plug in one of the hatches so all you need to do is pop a hatch and plug it in...just wondering...
those are tracks off a M1a1 or patton tank huh?
the little lights that pop for driving and turret elevation are wired into the motor leads? and your gonna end up having to use a 7 channel surface use controller when this is all done...

i'm using ni-cads. today i integrated the charging function. i'll realize it exactly as you suggested.
yes, those leds are wired directly to the related motor.
...
.
meanwhile i mounted everything into the tank. the only thing missing is the laserpointer.
.
today i started with the shadowsword.
it'll get a working BB-gun, single wheel suspension and better treads.
the drivingwheel is custom made to fit perfectly in the tracks gaps and consists of 25 parts.
today there'll be no video but some pics showing you what i did today.
.
I love your work, but I am a bit curious: how much free time do you have to spend on this stuff? I have a young kid, so 5 hours a week is a clot for me. Considering the speed at which you produce everything from rc baneblades to wolf titans...
dayum, and I complain about having to finish my ravenwing bikers
Love the baneblade. This will definitely be the coolest apocalypse army on any battlefield. Can't wait to see them all painted up.
One word on the shadowsword though. I really hope there is some kind of safety cover on the BB gun. Having this thing on a tabletop full of meticulously painted miniatures and surrounded by unprotected eyes, I can only imagine how horribly horribly wrong accidentally pressing the fire button could go.
It would be funny to see the cannon accidentally go off and totally own some model right off the table though...well so long as it wasn't mine
here's what i did today.
i hacked 2 servos. modified their case, combined them in an angle of 90° to save some space, modified the electric parts, connected them again, and voila! .... - now the treads speeds no more fixed and can be controlled absolutely free.
.
You have taken modelling to a whole new level. I applaude your work on this project. This is simply awesome. The Baneblade needs to go into Golden Demon cases and run down the competition. Great work.
hi ...
during the last week i made little progress on my tanks, because i finaly brough my brand new blopage online. check it out if you want to ... - viitors and comments highly appreciated.:
-
http://www.bobpanda.de -
additional to that i continud building a little look-out for the hb-gunner. -
i'm planing to post a detailed projectlog on my page ... but give me some time ... at the moment i'm spending more time in building than in writing ... .
bang bang !!!
Very very cool. Just a question. Are you custom making your electronics or sourcing them commercialy? the reason i ask is some of it looks rather bulky and i was wondering if you had looked at some of the Micro radio on the market.
hmmm i wanted to keep it as cheap as possible and therefore have not always bought the smallest but those that were relatively cheap AND small. the controlers themselves were all taken from other tanks or bought completely assembled at e-shops. in the end there's not a lot of electronics needed at all.
a sender, a reciever (in my case 8 channels), some servos, a 2-channel speedcontroler, and a single-channel-switch, somebatteries, a powerswitch and the cannon. :-)
Do you realy need 8 channels? If i where you i would use some y leads and have the turrets etc on the same channel. What are the servos for? I realy would look at micro servos, they are not that much more expensive.
What motors are you using? If you are using the same ones that come with the kit you got the tracks from i would suggest they are vastly to powerfull. I have thought about something similler myself using a Leman Russ, i might get around to it one day. For motors i was looking at using motors from standard size servos. You dont want a fast tank, even some of the small unes designed for model boats would work.

the servos i use are somewhere between mini and micro for 5€ each. i used them for the laserturrets, the gunner on top and the up n' down for the cannon.
for the motor i already used 2 heavily modified standard-servos, as you can see in the following pics.:
.
.
the good thing about servos is, that they are very powerfull and reliable. i mean two servos of the same type normaly run in exactly the same speed when driven by the same voltage. this is a huge advantage and helps you to avoid getting tracks moving at different speeds.
yes .. if you look closely you will see that i already cut the cases to make than slide into each another in a 90° angle. the remaining cases do only cover gear and motor. the controlunit is completely removed.
jep'ray wrote:wow, so you moved the servo circuit board to a remote spot...nice
hey Bob, have you thought of using the transmission/engine from a Tamiya 1/35th scale R/C tank kit? it should fit in the hull perfectly...
-
hi ... thanks for your comment ...
the problem with the 1:35 from timaiya is, that they cost about 100€, which 3 times as much as the tanks that "kill" for a conversion. but maybe i'll give it a try. -
btw ... i new vids regarding those 3 tanks online .... :
-
here are some pics of my remote controlled shadowsword, which will finally count as my iron saint. some rivets, chains and accessoires are still missing, but the major part of the build is done. ... comments are welcome ... -
Uh why's it crewed by a Space Marine not a Guardsman? These are really cool although shooting your opponent with a Shadowsword cannon is probably cheating. Funny Though.
Llamahead wrote:Uh why's it crewed by a Space Marine not a Guardsman? These are really cool although shooting your opponent with a Shadowsword cannon is probably cheating. Funny Though.
hehe ... in myarmy everything is second to wolftime. ... to be honest i do not know yet how my army will develop in the early future. but up to now, all vehiclecrewes in my army are based on spacemarine-parts. theyare actualy no real space marines ... but that's pretty complicated to explain ...
ojk9 wrote:Nice - I want one badly. How much did it cost to build?
hmm don't know exactly ... ~250euros.
kharndude wrote:How do you move it on the board?
i do not play that much, but normaly like every other "ordinary" vehicle. but it's quite a lot of fun though, to rc it on an empty table, with just scenery on it.
before starting to paint them i decided to put a picture of my 3 already finished rc-tanks on cmon.
so please feel free to vote for it, but please keep in mind that you're not voting for the missing paintjob, but for the conversions and the fact that they areremote controlled.
for demonstration purpose i also added the address ofthe corresponding video on youtube. - just to ensure that everyone believes the "special functions" of these tanks ...

here's the link: http://www.coolminiornot.com/219773
i decided to use the titans, the baneblade and the shadowsword for a new army based on the imperial guard.
.
there'll be many tanks, some flyers, the 2 titans and at least 5 rc-tanks in it ... - just to give you an impression what will come within the next ~ 3 years ... ....
so let's start wit hthe first tank, that i started to paint today ...
i wanted to have a dark color scheme with a note of camo in it.
further it should be easy to paint with brushes only, because i don't have an airbrush and it should be applyable for flyers, tanks and titans.
in the end i decided to take a scheme close to that from the dkok.
.
so here's waht i did today ... :
-
in the following pic you can see a picture (on my screen), that i found on the internet, showing the tank that inspired me to choose this scheme:
-
-
comments and critisism very welcome as the pj is still in early state and easy to modify.
hi all ...
today i'll have to tell you something some of you might have been already waiting for ...
.
i finally decided to release a relatively detailed tutorial on my blogpage how everyone could create his own remote-controlled baneblade. -
i'll tell you what parts will be needed, what to take care for and how to assemble the tricky parts.
-
some minutes ago i released the first articel of this series on my page.
you will find it followign this link:
-
http://bobpanda.de/warhammer/rc-baneblade-tutorial/rc-baneblade-tutorial-1/ -
comments and feedbacks are highly appreciated.
-
and here's a small teaser for you ... :
.
I'll check it out. I don't need to run over my opponent (as cool as that would be!) But I sure wouldn't mind some resources for adding LEDs to my models.
THANK YOU!!!
I don't have imperial guard, but I will make it a looted wagon of moving death!!!
Yay! tutorial!
If you post it on here you would win the contest as well...

hmmm mybe, yes. but this won't be only one short article, but a series of at least 5 or 6 spread over let's say the next 2 months. so i thought it is not the right stuff to take part at the contest, right? ...
-
and regarding costs-question asked above: ...
without the stuff from gw and without too much additional stuff the only thing you'll need are the tracks for ~15€, the leo2 for ~35€, 4 miniserveros for 20€ and maybe some additional leds + cable and resistors for maybe 10€.
so tank + 80€. of course this is still a lot of money, but this i also a relatively huge project which will def keep you busy for more than just 2 days ... -
but now back to topic .... : today i relaesed the 2nd article .... here's the link:
-
http://bobpanda.de/warhammer/rc-baneblade-tutorial/rc-baneblade-tutorial-2/ -
and a small vid showing the current status:
hey, I am now trying hard to build my own baneblade, 2 problems so far, 1. I don't have a Baneblade but I have a RC, Easy solutino right? just buy a baneblade. Ok solved 2. I can't seem to get the drive wheels off, I intend to get INTO the gearbox, because one of the wheels is screwededededed, so I need to get in and fix it before anything, thanks man, Love your work!!!
today I made a new vid of bb #1 which is almost finished, now ... :
-
-
I also installed 2 additional batteries and continued with the paintjob.
unf I broke my right hand 2 weeks ago ... so I have to do everythign with the left hand, now ... - this is also the reason why there aren't many updates on my projects at the moment. ... - sorry for that ...
Man, this is amazing. I thought you were just going to go with the land raider, but the baneblade/shadowswords are just amazing. Literally blew my face off when i saw this.
Soviet Yam wrote:Man, this is amazing. I thought you were just going to go with the land raider, but the baneblade/shadowswords are just amazing. Literally blew my face off when i saw this.
God man, how are you alive!
Really though, stunning work. Next stop rc bikes and thunderhawks
hi there ... sorry for not having posted for so long ...
but as i've told you before i have broken my right hand (4 times) ...
so the permanent cast i have to wear for 12 weeks prevents me from continueing in almost all of my currently running 40k-projects until the 3rd of september ... well ... but the first 6 weeks are already over, which means, that the 2nd 6 weeks are about to srtat tomorrow. ... so from now on i'll start counting backwards, again ...
.
but to keep you updated here are 2 relaively new vids of my iron saint and the valkyre that i equipped with some leds.
.
-
-
but even if i'm neither able to build, nore to build at the moment i#m using the time for reading almost everything 40k-related that i can find. further i'm spending a lot of time on planning other projects and collcting the bits necessary to relaise them after september the 3rd.
-
and to be hontest there's quite a lot in the queue for upcoming autumn and winter.
-
- the valks will become a squadron if 3. all equipped with the same stuff as the one shown in the vid. the 2 other valks are already build. some cables are still missing ... - and of course the paintjob-
- currently there are two rc banebladevariants in the army. the iron saint and the already finished baneblade. this baneblade will become part of a squadron consisting of two more baneblades. a stormlord and a shadowsword. i already started building both before i broke my hand. they are already ready to run, but the conversions themelf are not finished, yet.
- you might remember the big titan from this vid.:
together with the smaller warhoundclass titan from the first vid it will also become a memeber of this army. further i already collected all bits needed to build the missing two titanclasses as well: imperator and reaver.
- further this army will be reinforced by 10 sentinels, 3 leman russ variants and 3 basiliks.
- and in the end ~70 old metal imperial soldiers.
that's everything that is about to reinforce imperial guard in the next 2 years.
but in parallel there are also other things going on ... :
- e.g. i'll finally have to decide how to paint the two remote controlled land raiders that were meanwehile finished. - i'm honestly thinking about using them to start a new sm-army.
- and of course there's also some stuff to finish for my space wolves. - 4 smaller tanks, some buggies and 4 morre wolfriders. ...
.
...
i'll keep you updated ...
meanwhile the stormlord is almost finished.
i added the sidesponsons and a dozerblade. further i rearanged the exhausts and integrated a door in the rear, instead.
...
here are soem pics and a new vid ... :victory:
.
btw.: happy new year to all of you ...
-
I wont be impressed until you make a working, flying Valkyrie
Joking aside, are there any good projects like this to start on, or are there any online guides i could follow? I really want to give this a shot but i wouldn't know where to start.
