Yes. That's the actual title of this amazing song by Kings Of Leon. Also listening to Captain Midnight by Tomahawk, and Hate My Life by Theory of a Dead Man.
The last one always hits me hard. Because nice guys like me always lose. . Girls want a bad boy, not a Fedora Man. (my term for modern day gentlemen.)
Just out of interest whats the point of this thread? Are we discussing what songs we think are cool?
Incidently Sex on Fire is an awsome song and Only by the Night was bar far the best new album to come out last year. Mind you I only bought about 3 new albums last year!
The ultimate song about nice guys finishing last, just so beautiful. *sighs wistfully*
My absoloute favourite band in the world ever x2. The Smiths. This is one of their (many, many, many) classics. Ignore the video, it's a crap fan made affair.
And now, the best pop song ever written. FACT. I will physically fight anyone who disagrees.
I know this is the Internet so this request will fall on deaf ears but can we please stay away from "Your favorite band sucks" type replys?
Musical elitism is annoying enough at the best of times and I don’t know about you but im certainly not going to stop enjoying a song/band because somone on the interwebs doesn’t like it.
Lets just sick to sharing cool music and if you don’t like then don’t comment.
Anyway here are a few of my favorites at this time (It changes from week to week!)
A rather new Neo Prog band, but dont let that put you off, they really do rock!
This song came up on Random on my I-Pod the other day, I hadnt listened to it in ages and I've been listening to it loads ever since. Top bit of metal!
Heres a song from an album I found last month in an old CD sleve. I bought it about 7 years ago and hadnt listened to it in about 5 years. I think the band only did one album before vanashing. Anyway I poped it in and gave it a listen. Fantastic stuff!
This is a rather insane little number, found it via a link on Youtube a few weeks back. Anyway I now can't stop listening to ut. Utterly bonkers and utterly brilliant at the same time!
and as far as i'm concerned the greatest pop song ever!
*EDIT* Oh and heres a fantastic song from the early-mid 90's. Never a huge fan of this band but this song is just beautiful, the chorus is just pop genuis and makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

A great song, and probably the best song from the Brit Pop era of the mid-90s. In fact, probably the song that single handedly turned it from being a period of time where a bunch of good artists released their best stuff, and into a defined, recognisable era with themes and meaning and stuff.
I'm just not sure it's a great pop song, because they have different standards to other types of music. Common People has no clear hook, the first chorus takes a while to turn up, it's too long and you have to pay a bit of attention to get the best out the song. Best pop song of all time probably goes to The Smith's Charming Man, or Blur's Coffee and TV, or maybe something like the Go-Betweens 'Streets of Your Town'.
IMO the Kings Of Leon aren't as good as they used to be, incidentally, every time I hear 'Sex on Fire' I imagine that just before he sings the chorusy bit, where he goes "AAAAOOOWWWWOOHHHOHHHOHHH!" It makes me think that he's burned something important
Current band I'm loving to hate;
Scouting for Girls REPEATING ONE LINE OVER AND OVER NO MATTER HOW TUNEFULLY, DOES NOT CONSTITUTE SINGING!
Sebster, fantastic call on the other nominees, but I still vote Common People, the fact that it defies all the standard rules of pop, but is still so clearly, so fundamentally pop, is what makes it such a remarkable song for me. Also, no better analysis of the British class system has been heard on record since the Who sang 'I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth...'
I don't really find this thread very interesting, but I just wanted to say that ''Sex on Fire'' is aural AIDS. I bet that song took about 12 seconds to write. I've heard better football chants.
''Common People'' = good pop song. File alongside ''Firestarter'' for 90's UK classics.

Certainly a great song, certainly a great commentary on class and that peculiar idea that started among the middle class in the mid-90s that it was better to be working class, and the way to be working class was to act like a stupid, drunk lout.
Interesting call that despite not having the trappings of a pop song it's still unmistakably a pop song. I'm finding it hard to disagree to be honest.
I couldnt choose a favourite band or song, but right now, the band Im loving is Akercocke, & the song Im loving is Crime of the Century, by Supertramp.
aha. I once went to a haloween night at a club back in the day where free entry was granted if you were wearing a costume. So I painted a white line on my face and got me and all my mates in on the basis they were my entourage. good times.
Favorite Vocal Style: I honestly don't have one, as I tend not to listen to lyrics (Though I guess I do have a thing for female leads in classic rock, ala Jefferson Airplane, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie, etc.)
Favorite Song: Necrophagist - Only Ash Remains (As a bassist, there's no way you can't love this song)
Most Respected Band: Akira Yamaoka (For single-handedly creating two music genres) / Napalm Death / Death / Throbbing Gristle
Best Genres: Progressive Death Metal / Industrial / Horror Ambient / Jazz / Classical / Underground Hip Hop
Worst Genres: Smooth Jazz / Soft Rock / Pop / Anything that sounds like Stevie Ray Vaughn / White guys that sing the Blues
Worst Band Ever: There's plenty. For lack of actual talent, I'd look to most Hardcore Punk.
Worst Metal Band Ever: Hm...Dying Fetus? At least they stand for something.
Only Good Metalcore Band: Hahah, you callous bastard. As We Fight / A Fear Called Treason
Only Good Nu Metal Band: Mudvayne? Meh.
Dream Band: Muhammed Suicmez (Guitar), Ron Jarzombek (Lead Guitar), Victor Wooten (Bass), Danny Carey (Drums)
Some Songs I've Been Digging Lately: Arsis - The Face of My Innocence / Necrophagist - To Breathe in a Casket / Cattle Decapitation - The Gardeners of Eden / Inferi - Cabal of Thieves / Psyclon Nine - Crwn Thy Frnicatr / Colombine. - You Should Be Ashamed / The Faceless - All Dark Graves / Opeth - Funeral Portrait / Aesop Rock - Labor Days / Voice of Vision - Frequency / Akira Yamaoka - True
There would be more, but your narrow mind has clouded my vision.
EDIT: Best Acoustic Guitarist Ever; Justin King (Eat that, Jack Johnson):
just as an aside, scrolling through the old ipod, noticed that i have both keane(not that new pish, hopes and fears) and korn next to each other!
Ah Hopes and Fears, I know Keane get allot of stick for being dull but I really like them. Their songs are nice and uplifting and very very catchy.
Ive got the newer stuff but not listened to it as much as Hopes and Fears.
Incidently I also have Korn on the old Ipod but Between Keane and Korn I have:
Kenny Loggins (Yes I have the Top Gun soundtrack on my I-Pod, wanna fight about it?) The Killers Killing Joke (One of the most varied bands I've ever heard, no 2 albums sound alike. First got into them from Metallica cover of one of their songs on Garage Inc) King Crimson Kings of Leon Kiss The Kooks (of all the recent wave of British Indie bands I like these guys the most, because their songs are actually fun and catchy!)
and I have Kyuss just after Korn. Top band. Basically its QOTSA's older and heavier brother. Not as Poppy as QOTSA but still a very interesting listen.
I've been listening to my Breaking benjamin songs lately. Polyamorous, So Cold, Dairy of Jane, Unknown Soldier, and Blow me Away. I also am listening to Coheed and Cambria's Welcome Home, The Crowing, and A Favor Hose Atlantic.
I am also a big fan of the Smiths. I have my ticket for Morrisey next month at Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg. Can't wait really.

Ghetto_Fight wrote:Kings of Leon's new songs are so crap!!!! Another band made gak by fame!
Theve become popular, the swines! How dare people enjoy their music! Dont they know that music is only for elistists and that any band who play to an audience of more than 200 are clearly no better than common whores!
You only have to let us know your opinion once, Ghetto. No one even argued with what you actually said.
Soilwork went suddenly crap about five or so years ago. REALLY crap. I don't understand why, but in my circles they're now a lot less popular. Probably selling more records or something... I could care less though.
The vast, vast majority of bands never make a better album than their first.
"It is my personal belief that hardship begets great art; just look at how many bands’ first albums are their best, made before they’re subjected to the enormous, self-congratulatory, corporate circle-jerk that is the music industry. There are, of course, notable exceptions, but these only serve to prove the rule."
That's an extract from an article I wrote that touches on the subject.
You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I have the 2 LP set of "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris," the 60's version, and it's some of the most brutally honest songs I've ever heard.
If you like those two, you should check out Leonard Cohen.

I tend to disagree in my experience the majority of debut albums normally have sloppy production values and musicianship with the bands being a slave to their influences rather than a self sustaining creative force. Lots of bands tend to find their stride with roundabout their 3rd album. Im sure I can thibnk of plenty of examples but I can't be bothered to go through my music collection right now.
It also never had much time for the idea of poverty equaling great art, but I really don't like overly political art/music anyway as its usually just cliche riddled and ill-informed (Yes I'm looking at you RATM!).
I know most people don't like them, but I'd argue that Oasis' 'What's the Story (Morning Glory)' album is superior to both 'Definitely Maybe' and anything they've done since.
Oh and Park Life is the best Blur album and that's their 3rd or 4th.
And Led Zeppelin III is better than Led Zeppelin II simply because of the pure awesomeness that is
And you know I'm right. Don't give me any of that overplayed Stairway crap
I dunno, I think you'll find that all Oasis albums are, shockingly, equally pish.
Perhaps it's Liam and his whiney vocals, or Noel desperately plundering the vaults in search of, ahem, inspiration (Listen to Cigarettes and Alcohol....then go listen to Bang A Gong by T-Rex. Absolutely identical.
And did you know, their latest album 'Dig Out Your Soul' had a late in the day name change? It was originally meant to be named 'Dig out your Soul albums our Kid. We've finished the Beatles back catalogue so we need something else to rip off'
Wow, havnt listened to Filter in ages, awsome band. Their second album called Title of Record was an album that I listened to non stop for months after it first came out. I honestly thought they deserved to be huge. Its a pity theve faded away. They actually released a new album last year, I listened to it once but never gave it much of a chance. It might be a grower. Hopefully I havnt deleted it.
Anyway heres another couple of songs by this top act.
chromedog wrote:Well, greeby, be prepared for a fight. Blur were just bleh! As for the Smiffs - if there were more Morrissey fans, there'd be less of them.
[Just not into brit-pop or whiney music in general].
Haven't had a song 'touch' me in that special way since 'Silent Lucidity' by Queensryche.
Sex on fire just sounds so derivative and very much like an old aussie band to my jaded ears (Noiseworks).
"Silent Lucidity"? Really? Queensryche is really kind of crap.
Best pop song: really anything by Prince in the 80's. That man got the filthiest stuff on the radio with nary a blink. "little red corvette" is not about a car.
Best metal song (on the radio): stinkfist, for the same reason above. "Take my hand" has two meanings, friend.
The best album of last year is a close contest between Britney Spears' Blackout and Dig Lazarus Dig by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
I have awesome taste in music.
Saying that, I used to be a real music nazi. If it wasn't metal, I didn't want to know. Now I'm a little more grown up I appreciate a lot more music. Whilst still loving my hard rock and metal, I do own about 3 pop albums, which is nice.
Aersomith / Run DMC? Come on man.
What about Public Enemy and Anthrax? Thats a winner!
Ive heard loads of people rave about Nevemore, Ive never understood it myself though. All their songs just seem to be long and dull. The lead singer gets tons of praise but I just cant stand him, to me his voice is like nails on a blackboard.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I like it because it's different from what most metal bands do. Dream Theater kinda has the same vibe going on, only way more technical.
