Hey all!

Me and my gaming group (Team Anarchy) have now decided to reinforce our Apocalypse forces!

This thread will be used to show our progress whilewe get our stuff ready for our next APO game.

Expect updates from Red Skullz and yours truly...

Here goes, my first conceptual picture of a knight...

The yellow parts are currently cardstock, but will be made in plasticard in due time...

Hey!

I`m moving my APO upgrades for da Red Krumpany over here. Here`s what I`m working on at the mo`, a fighta-bomma based from a leman russ.

Here`s an angled pic showing the detail of the nose section a bit better:

I`ve started on the teeth for the sides to imitate the shark grin that`s quite popular on planes. For the nose mounted big shootas I used sluggas. The idea was looted from one of Krooza`s planes. I quite like the look it gives, compact and brutal.

Other than that I`ve now started on the wings and tail section, expect pics of that tomorrow.

talast,
Red

PS: check out my Red Krumpany plog for the first part of the fighta bomma build.

Small but vital update, here`s the first wing:

I originally thought that I would do the same as the Goff Rocker with having open parts showing the innards of the wing. With the engines in place it wasn`t that much room for it so I went with the cables on top like Pox. Still have a lot of work on the wing left but I feel this is a good start.

talast,
Red

Nice knight! I like the look of it, escpecially the head. That's some nice use of the defiler armpour plates... Is the torso just the defiler body, or did you modify it anywhere?
I'm curious to see how the torso will evolve; the one on my knight is close to a Lucius pattern warhound, but yours looks more streamlined. Anxiously awaiting updates .

Really happy now, looky here!

I feel that everything fell in place with the wing fixed, stoked that it visually actually works (for me at least).

Now* the plan is to detail and fix the next wing in place so that I can continue with the tail section and the krew compartment where all the fun stuff will be dropped.

talast,
Red

*Now as in at a later stage. I`m so pleased at how this build is going I`m going to watch Heroes season 2 and grin for myself lol

The Knight is starting to come together. Managed to build up the cockpit and the legs, and it now stands on its own.
Toes and the bulk of the upper body are still missing.

Close-up of the driver.

Intersting build up; I'm curious as to how the legs will match up with the rest of the knight. Will you add greaves? And how will the body relate to the arms? I'm assuming you're buildng a knight paladin, so a battlecannon and a huge chainsword . Thatwould explain the assymetrical arms... I like what you've done with the hips, may have to steal that idea .

So with a bit more of work done I managed to get the second wing on:

Got a bit more to do on the side with the newest wing but the main part is done with fixing it in place.

Now as I continue detailing that side I`ll start on fleshing out the tail section at the same time. I`ve used foamcard as the basis for the wings and tail with 0.40mm plasticard covering all the foamcard. Used foamcard for the weight and it saves me a lot of plasticard.

@CommisarKhaine: The body will match the legs with armour plating covering top and back, and a bit of the front. So some parts are heavily armoured, and in between you'll se all the bits that "make it work". I'm trying to keep some of the classic Knight look...

Wether it will be a Paladin, I'm not sure. But it will have some kind'a gun, and a CCW...

@Azmo: great update mate!

On an updaty note, I`ve now started detailing the tail section bit it`s going slow due to the bomms production. Quite vital for me to get the bomms and burna bomms done since they will have a lot to say on how I do the tail section and rear cabin. Expect pics of the bomms and tail section tomorrow!

Taken me some days to get to this stage. Here`s the bomms and burna bomms:

Used various bitz & pieces for them, very happy with the start of the crane for dropping the bomms. It will make more sense as I start on the rear cabin

Here`s how far the fighta-bomma has evolved:

I will make similar tail fins as on the fighta-bomma in the Apocalypse book. I reckoned it`s the safest version as I don`t trust the tail gunner a lot lol!

@Azmo:
Really like that chainsword (even if it`s a bit weedy )!

Update on some detailing:

Ammo-box, stuff on the roof, a fan and a grille on the backside.

The auspex, searchligth and hatch are obvious rhino parts.
The fan is a grey-stuff remould from a CoD building part.
I'm going to build another grille on the other side of the back, and thinking of making a ladder between the grilles...

interesting fighta bombma, so if the wings break of in battle, does it become a battle wagon.

If you insist .

Here's my thoughts on how to improve an excellent model:

- Detailing, obviously, since it's a WIP. Rivetting, tech-gubbins,... you know the drill
- The way the chainsword arm is attached to the body seems a bit weird.
- I'd consider widening the carapace at the shoulder, a bit more like the necrons have.
- Something to make the legs look attached to the hip section; I have the same poblem with my first knight.

Follwing this one with interest!

For those who haven`t seen my stompa, this is how it looks at the moment:

Still have loads of stuff left on it though.

I plan on a second stompa, here`s three alternatives I`m thinking on:
1: krusha ball and belly gun
2: deff arsenal
3: goff rok`n`rolla

Any opinions on which one I should take are more than welcome

I`ve spent ages on finding a proper base with something to get the bomma airborne. In the end I found a paper roll holder which worked really well. I know it`s a bit thick but that will be fixed with a paintjob. The most important thing for me is that it`s sturdy and can hold the weight and stability when gaming.

Other than that you can see that I`ve now added the bomb-droppa using parts from the trukk grabbin klaw and some other bitz and pieced I had lying around. I don`t have room for the burna booms back there so they will be placed on the wings. All in all I`m more or less done with the majority of the build but of course I have a lot of detailing left.

Anyhoo, here`s pics:

Red Skullz, that bomm bay is really the clincher to put your fighta-bommer in the "thoroughly awesome" category.

Azmo, that Paladin looks ace! I'll echo others in praise for the head, but the torso shape is also really well done. The proportions also look good.

There's only one criticism I feel compelled to offer (because the whole thing is so good that one little oddity really sticks out): the CCW arm doesn't look good. It's awkward positioning really, I think: it looks liek an arm with a very widely spaced shoulder and no elbom right now. If you perhaps lowered the angle on the CCW and made it point forwards, that might help: being held upwards makes it look like a sword held in a fist upwards, not a forearm that includes a chainsaw.

But that bit only stands out because the whole model is otherwise so frackin' good. Nice work!

Post by: Azmodai

Thanks boys!
Think the meld between kit-bashing and a knight paper-template brought out the best of both...

@Savnock: I'll take that into consideration, migth just do that when I glue the arm in place. ATM both arms are flexible and detachable due to the defiler ball-joints, makes it easier to work on it. They will need to be glued in the end, since they will only stay in certain positions.

Last update for a couple of weeks due to work.

Mainly the tail section that needs a bit more work, some plates and a lot of cables and it should be done. I`m also adding a cable feed to the burna bomms holders which ends up to the pilot. Think big red buttons for bomms release
Other than that you can see that I`ve bitz bashed a lot on this build and I will do it on the next bomma as well.

C&C please

I`ve also ordered plasticard since I`m almost out of it so I should be well off regarding finishing this bomma and my stompa as well as building a new bomma and stompa.

R

PS: I noticed on the pic that the props are in a really weird angle, that`s only because they`re loose and I fitted them poorly. They sit a lot more snug and at the right angle when I take the time doing so

I positively love the fighta-bomma. Just one question though: if building a second one, would you use a tank as a base again? So much of it got obscured, that it seems a bit of a waste. Other then that: brillant, love the ork holding the bomb and the incendiary bombs on the wings.

I will yes, But all my big vehicles have been based from leman russ`or chimeras and I like continuing that with the flyers. Tells that these guys will either "improve" it as a tank or make it fly, all depending on what the warboss `imself wants.
It`s quite obvious that it`s a russ in there from a gamers view on the table, I`ve tried as hard as I could to show that.

---

Arrait so I`m finally back in building mode after being away from work for a couple of weeks and I also spent the week after that with my family.

Now one of the things I thought the most about while away was my stompa, here`s the result:

Main things left to do are:
- final detailing on legs (more hydraulics, etc)
- dakka arm, a mag for the cannon, rivets and some more cables
- finish the supa-rokkits (the pen tips in the cylinders)
- some greenstuffing here and there for the worst gaps (after doing the final chipping)
- and...well I think that`s about it (besides more rivets of course).

That Fighta-Bomma is dead 'ard. After watching this thread it seems I'm going to have to start doing orks again, sold my old ones a long while ago and didnt want to jump on the codex bandwagon again. I love the idea of the leman russ as well deffinately makes it look a lot more scary har. Least if it crashed it could pretty much self recover have a relatively flat surface and a dead 'ard landing .

So amazing on both models, That paladin is amazing for being scratch made, always makes me jealous to see such fine models scrap built expecially titans and or exo-suited types as I'm not that good at scrap building unless its orks or death guard.

Wow what a compliment mate! Watch out for my next bomma as well, it`s a looted tank again but not a leman

I`ve now adressed the main issue people had with my stompa, the skinny legs. Also done a lot of detailing on it as checkers, platform for the Kap`n & Big Mek, and...well, detailing

That should leave the following to do:
- dakka arm, a mag for the cannon, rivets and some more cables
- finish the supa-rokkits (the pen tips in the cylinders)
- some greenstuffing here and there for the worst gaps (after doing the final chipping)

C&C please!

@Red

One thing I noticed, and it really stuck out to me. If you look closely at the 'props' on your fighta bomma, the little "motion makers" along the edges don't all go in the same direction. If they were all along a similar edge, it would give a better feel of spinning.

You could probably cut and pin them in a different direction pretty easily (I hope).

Otherwise, really nice, if huge Bomma - very orky!

At long last, back from the trip with work and worked up goodwill with the mrs. so I've been able to do at least something...

The Paladin as it stands now.

Still, a lot of detailing to do, but it helps...

Red arrows on this(not-so-good) picture points out my attempt to make a hand ball-joint.

This have been standing about for some time...

Hopefully easter gives me time to do some more...

Here`s todays update:

Added the ammoclip to the cannon, greenstuffed here and there and added a "tad" more rivets to it all. I also fixed the arms so that they have a standard pose, they`re still magnetised I just made sure that they are in the position they`re meant to be. The last thing I need to do now is file the tips of the supa-rokkits, add rivets to the greenstuffed bands and then it`s off to a basecoat!

If anyone wants to add anything that I should incorporate and/or improve on the stompa this is the time as it`s only 24 hours before I basecoat it

Finally I`ve gotten this far

Added some smaller details like the single weapon rack for the rear big shoota gunner and the exhaust vent for the smallest pipe on the engine, rivets on the supa-rokkits as well as filing the tips, and a fair amount of rivets to finish it all off.

@Azmo:
Love the TL HB! Pity it`ll be stomped though

File: 7602/ 3213/ 32-10.294// Code: The Intricate Study of "da Red Krumpany"//

Date:0324987M41.

Subject: The following contains investigations by Inquisitor Anthraxus on the WAAAGH known as Red Krumpany. The investigation started after the loss of the mining colony Niflheim in the Hel Segundus system. At the time this was given to the recently elevated Inquisitor Anthraxus as he is a junior member of the Ordo Xenos and hence young and ambitious.//

Rating: Gamma level clearance//

Cross ref to: Reports from Chaplain Augustus 3rd Company, Dark Angels.

+++0194986M41.+++

+Findings:
Type: Super-heavy walker
Unit: Stompa
Name: "da Revenant"

As my earlier forays into the structure and tactics of the WAAAGH known as Red Krumpany has shown there are more than meets the eye when looking closely. The same can most definitely be said of this construct.
It is believed that the main inspiration for this stompa* is actually taken from the Eldar Revenant Titan**. As the Red Krumpany favours urban battlefields and excell at this it might be seen as a natural source of inspiration. Take a look at this pict which illustrates my point (in advance I apologise for the poor quality of the picts, but as you can imagine it is not an easy venture to begin with);

You can see the fairly thin and fragile legs compared to the bulky body. Those legs allow the stompa to move with a fair bit of grace and speed (for an orkish walker) through the urban battlefield, stalking it`s prey.

Now let`s take a look at the main armament of "da Revenant". In typical fashion of the stompa constructs the arms are fairly thin compared to the bulk of the main hull. The arms fulfill specific roles, namely one being dakka and the other krumpy***.

First let`s take a look at the dakka arm:

This arms sports the enormous deth-kannon with a co-axial linked supa-gatler. The orks do lack any type of accuracy so the natural solution to this (in an orks mind) is to increase the amount of shots fired. An interesting part to note here is that the Red Krumpany often loot Imperial munitions as seen on the magazine "clip" on the deth-kannon).

The "krumpy" arm:

Here we see a titan ccw in the form of a gigantic chainfist, a supa-skorcha and TL big shootas. It`s been summarised that the combination of the big shootas and supa-skorcha is meant to weaken the enemy`s hull so that the chainfist can rip through it more easily.

Top section:

Topside we can see on the left shoulder area the three fire points that a mob honoured enough to be able to be transported by the stompa can use. Also seen is where the Kap`n**** and Big Mek can view the battlefield from their command bridge and make their tactical assesments (see the primitive tube protruding from the head area of the stompa, this if for communicating with the main operators). In Imperial eyes this would be seen as extremely risky and foolhardy but seen from an orks mindset it makes sense. How better to feel the rush and full power of such a mighty warmachine than from that point?

Front section:

For the front of the stompa you can see the typical plated repairs the orks favours, two big shootas and three points for the supa-rokkits. As we can see all of these weapons are crewed from the point of the weapon and not from the head section which contains the main operators.

To finish off my findings on "da Revenant" here`s a look of the rear section.

Engine mounted high on the back. The small platform with the big shoota gunner has a door, this is believed to lead into the engine room.
Underneath this we see three entry points. The center one is believed to contain the holding area for transported units while the other two are for the various gunners and meks manning the stompa.

*Stompa is a common imperial designation for all of their medium sized super-heavy walkers. It is more an indication of size rather than battlefield role.
**The Eldar Revenant Titan is known for moving with great swiftness and smothness. That paired with holo-fields makes it a very difficult target and an ideal warmachine for taking out enemy titans.
***Full explanation of these terms can be found in the volume, Ordo Xenos: Ork Encyclopedia-da Words.
****Kap`n. A variation on the use of the more typical Boss for a leader.

+Conclusion:

"da Revenant" is seen as a new and very deadly threat in any theatres that the Red Krumpany will operate in. The very nature and inspiration for it makes it likely that it will stalk the streets and hit as hard as only an ork construct can against high value targets.
However I firmly believe that an attack from the rear will make it fairly easy to take down by targeting the lower section as it can barely hold the massive weight of the upper torso.

Mostly done painting, not varnished yet.

This is a "Guardian-pattern" Revenant titan, so many details have it's source there...

Still a lot of blemishes that bothers me, but it had to be finished. And some of them were hard to see, until they became painfully obviuos after some paint. At least it can allways be tracked back to me by CSI...

Anyhow, it's armed to take care of other super-heavies and other armoured foes...

Well, is it silly???

Possibly that could be dropped by one made from a Leviathon and maybe the Leman Russ could drop one made from a sentinel.

I agree about the arms on the knight, seem a tad off.
if they arent fixed try moving them up so they are on the right angle of the join, should look good.
or could allways fix them to the top, warhound style

Ive been tempted to make a kngiht, but ill possibly just make one by using scaled down hound plans lol

Pretty cool! Still, the arms seem off to me.. It's probably because they don't originate from the "armpit", while they're still very human looking. It does have a certain 'battlemech' feel to it, which makes it look sleek and deadly. Never a bad thing!
