Saw this plane in Poundland ( uk) the other day and I thought it could make a Fighta for my ever expanding Ork apoc army.
So I started to rip it apart...
It comes apart nice and easy..
I decided to make it a mono wing jet. Took out the prop and made a basic turbine.
Then I put in a cut down plastic tube for the jet exhaust and cut down the canopy.
THats all so far. Needs the wings bent up a bit , some armour plates, guns a bigger control surfaces. bombs and one or two rivets.
Wadya think any ideas?

I would also reccomend trying to dig up a better pilot. Never liked the Gorkamorka vehicle crews. Minor I know!

Looks great. It just needs from big shootas mounted on its nose and some bombs and missiles on pylons under the wings.

I just put him in for scale. I'm going to put a more uptodate ork in , probably with a scarf blowing in the wind . The cockpit will have to been done next as the body will have to be sealed up.

Me too! Lucky find there as well, it even looks like a good size. Make sure when your painting it, a bomba HAS to have a flame job. I think its a rule or something

Flame or Teeth on the front? Hmmm I was thinking of a black/white check pattern , I remember a ww2 thunderbolt model with a pattern around its nose.

Actually, I didn't buy one. It was left by a little kid at my parents' store once and after he didn't came back to the store after a week I decided to salvage it.

Heres an update on the WIP.
Found an ork in my spares box , GS'ed him some goggles and a scarf. Then made him a cockpit which , ( fingers crossed ) , should fit it nicely.
I'm going to use the stubbers and rockets for big shootas and bombs. I will have to magnatize the bombs so I can remove them once they are dropped and miss there target.
I've also put big shootas in the nose,
Added some plates to the rear of the jet exhaust and made a bigger rudder.
The work goes ever on!

Moar armor panels! Great start, though! The execution on this conversion is looking really solid. There are a lot of toy-to-fighta conversions out there that I've seen that just look like toys with orkabitz stuck to them, but I'm confident that it will look truly Orky when you're done with it.

What's the name/model number of that toy?
They make perfect FightaBombas (well, your sure is nice!) and the price is right, though I'd have to eBay them as I'm in the US.
Thanks!

Post by: vodski
If people don't know where to get them I could put some on ebay on "buy it now" and give the item numbers so you can on them , at cost price.
The omly thing I dont like is that its made from quite soft plastic , and not easy to glue to. I put the plasticard on with poly cement which is ok , and the rudder on with superglue and the jet exhaust with "no nails". Its a bit of trial and error as to which will be best.

Sorry for the OT, but I can't help it.
When I was in high School in the 80's, some of my classmates had a top 40 band called "The Stand."
Weird.
Anyway, just to reiterate, I really DO like the looks of it. It's making me think I should buy a toy at a garage sale this summer and LOOT it.

Don't go there. Mistakes were made , now is not the time for finger pointing or recriminations. I just wish she'd stop laughing about it so much.

Most importantly: I like it.
Second most importantly: I was wrong re: Deffkopta. it's too big for that.
Now, those aside. I only have 2 problems with it. First, I think your dags would look better black & white than red (looks orangish) and yellow.
Second: it's too clean.
I'd love to see oil leaks from panels near the "worky bits," & a lot of chipping and scarring on the entire thing (especially the added panels). There should be plenty of metal showing through the paint jobs.
Oh... and I'd like to see more color diversity in your added panels, too. Like they were taken from various SM or IG tanks and the like.

I wanted yellow/red to be more speed freak , I've got lots of goff boys with black and white . Yeh at the moment its got the fresh off the forecourt look , and I usually add UM blue and tau colours to panels to needle my fellow players . Also smoke trails from the guns and jet engine , leaks from mechanikal parts , I'm all over it. So one more painting session. I think I'll start on the base first though. With the base done I can use it in a game " as is " and grunge it up " as and when". Cheers for the comments.

Now, I wouldn't be going OT like this if it wasn't the Thread's author who brought it up...
I used to have an animated .gif of it as my avatar on Bartertown.
I watched the moving again, late last year. I found it amazingly funny that, though MANY people know and love the "Truffle Shuffle," it only lasted for about 2 seconds in the movie.

This is a great job. Your work makes it look like a GW or FW model kit that has been painted up - a great conversion. Very good paint scheme too. Yeah, I want to take a week's vacation and build this and some stompas and about 300 boyz to go with them.

300 Boyz! Good luck with that then. I just painted up 80 boyz , hard work, and I used the easyist paint scheme. I've just got this plane to finish, a stomper and 8 gaunts to make into gargoyles and I've painted everything! Just in time for the new IG codex to be released , bugger. New superheavys , valks , new leman russes. Will it ever end!

Great paintjob. I don't know if this is what you were going for, but the colors are very Rogue Trader-era orks rather than current ork colors.

Well I should learn to use the camera correctly. The picture is more orangey than the real thing. And I've recently given it a wash with the gw red wash ( can't remember the name ). I've also made it dirtier and battle worn . But I know what you mean. The colours were inspired by George Dellapina's army. He uses yellow as the main colour and blue and red on his markings. Which are painted nice and bright.

I can take no more , and give no more time . So I declare "finished" on this one.
Heres are the last pics. First the base.
On the board.
And the final paint up. Still looks a touch more orange than in real life.
Hope you like it. If you find his toy in the poundshop and "do it up" , then please post your results. I would imagine that you dakkites could do a much more inventive job than me. Although I did think of having a grot parachute half way to the base , or hanging from a fueling hose where the pilot had taken off a bit to eagerly. But these ideas never got off the ground ( pardon the pun ). Cheers Mike

I work as an alarm engineer , so I get around factories and shops a lot. I was working in a womens clothes shop in crickhowell . ( thats Wales , england ). A place called Pips ,( big up nuff respect to the pips posse, ay!). In the back store room they had hat stands for displaying 4 hats at a time. A plastic base with 4 perspex rods and a discs on the ends . The lightbulb lit above my head and I asked if I could have a spare as a stand for my sons plane. They said ok as long as I put a sheep on the scenic base. Does a grot count as a sheep?
AJC: Whats next. Well I've got a stompa to do next , something nice and simple , box standard.
Anti Mag: Skin cancer colour scheme? If I remenber correctly , its what the advertising graphic designers refer to as a," blood and vomit" colour scheme.
Thanks to all for the positive and constructive comments.
