figured i would catalog my progress with this little side project. im a deathguard player, i have over 5000 points of painted deathguard and i love them, but i need a change. i wanted to paint power armor again, but i cant play loyalist so i went back to the chaos codex and decided to go with something slaanesh. not trueblood emp. children, but slaanesh heavy for sure. here are some snaps of my first models. first up are 2 of my 6 obliterators. sadly they dont have any extravagent codpieces, but the guns are enough i think.

finally i give you my other chaoslord, notice the angel wings and the gigantic "blissgiver" growing out of his pelvic region. he is currently giving the bliss of slaanesh to a dark angel chamion.

bases are back to basix, from australia. they are dirt cheap, i paid 40 bucks for enough bases to do the entire 2000 point army. check out there site if you want. they are from Oz, but worth the wait.

those are peg wings, got them from bitz box a UK based bitz site that sells them pretty cheap.

The painting and modeling is top notch, but I have to say that I don't like the fact that the winged lord has a Dark Angel on his base. It's just not going to look right when he's fighting non-DA armies.

Some very nice looking models here. The Chaos Lord must have been quite a job to ballance out so it wont tip over. However the Termie lord looks best from a painting and modelling point of view.

Nice work on the painting - the bold pink ties them together adequately despite the rainbow of other colours. The winged lord's wings looks a little odd though.

they are the larger claws from the plastic demonette box set, as is the standard on his back. the head is a dark elf head. his cod piece is also from the demonette box.

the DP is extra. the list was set for 2000 points, but i can bump it to 2500 now, make the termie lord just another termi in the squad, run the DP as the second HQ and add in some demons im converting up.

so for the gamesday 2000 point list i have the 5 termies and 20 sonic blaster noise marines to paint, and a month to do it in, which is a good chunk of time for me, with finals and stuff coming up it will be under the wire but i have a good chance of getting the sodomites ready fro war.

im priming the termies today, im waiting on sonicblasters to arrive some time next week.

That armies BRIGHT I hope you issue your opponents sunglasses.

IMO toss the power weapon champs on the blastmaster noise marines, and use it to buy more terminators, since you're going to need them to save your other units from "unwinnable" combats vs. dreadnoughts and such anyways.

GW washes plus vallejo paints. the whole army is an exercise in the use of the washes, which are the best thing that GW has released in a while. im painting a few dwarfs this week for a game on saturday, so the progress this week will be slow if any, but will definalty pick up again once i get my sonic blasters and these stunties are finished.

a lil update, played my first game with my full 2000 point list vs. another chaos play, crushing him into the dirt. here are a few shots.





the termies are done, ill post pics of them early in the week. im working on the noise marines now, and i just assembled a greater demon.

The colours... They are so beautiful!

lil update, fighting through the easter ham and candied yams, i finished a greater demon. forgot how much of a steal this gem is in the new book.



basic scheme, very colorful, painted in about an hour with, like everything else, the washes.

next will will be the 20 noise marines and 6 lesser demons to finish the force until i get my FW in.

I think her horns and claws could have used a different color, but for an hour that's rocking stuff. Screaming purple is a good color for 100 points of T6 smashy value.

Nice first game too, other chaos dude didn't even see it coming. Ka-lash!

Yea, I agree with Salvage about the horns. Another color, perhaps a bone white with a Sepia or Red wash would be good.

All in all, a darn pretty (in that psychadelic, "I just licked Janice Joplin in a bad place" kind of way) army. I am going to have to make it over to the store and get a game in, just to get crushed by purple passion!

the camera shot is bad, the borns and claws are a lighter pink, i painted them pink before i hit the model with 2 washes of purple. the shot just sucks.

i went over them with a pink layer anyways afterwards.

The cocksword is stupid. It's not funny, it's not creative, it's just plain stupid.

Bonus points I guess for the psychadelic colors and following Slaanesh fluff really closely, I personally wouldn't individualize them no matter how fluffy it is simply for the sake of other people's eyes and it doesn't really make them look like an "army" so much as a collection of random Marines, but when I see crap like the cocksword it just pisses me off. I know it's Slaanesh, but you don't have to be slowed.

I think though as others have said theres a line that we need to be careful of as modellers. Themed armies are great, but its a muddy area when a theme moves into self parody.

Well it's not a bad-looking army at all, it's just not my thing I guess. The washes are pretty good, I haven't used them much myself but it seems people get good results with them.

I keep looking at these half expecting a tie-dyed shirt. The very pale, pastel colors of the washes over white really are saying "Gentle, 1st grade teacher sort of hippy." Which is really weird.

Sorry to thrust gaming concerns into your modeling, but are you putting squad markings on these bad boys? I am a little concerned that the units will be difficult to distinguish in a scrum.

lol, no unit markings, i was never bog on them. my deathguard dont have them, my orks certainly dont.

the only place i see this being a problem is the 2 large NM squads, which would prolly be deployed far enough from each other to matter.

update time, taking a break from the Khador to hammer out some noise marines. 2 down, 18 to go then 6 lesser demons and the army is ready for gamesday.


the first 5, 2 are done and based, the third just got a wash ready for highlights and a base, should have the first 5 done by the weekend. maybe i can get the army done for tabletop next weekend for some practice games. this weekend is a fantasy tourney, busting out the stunties ive been painting for the last 2 months.


2 first finished. the yellow/black guy doesnt do much for me, but i wanted to see what the scheme would look like, not wanting to change it he will be in the swuad none the less.

These models just made my night. Truly extraordinary. the only thing i have to say is that i have always been a fan of uniformed color scheme armies and a squad of all diffrent colored marines would get to me, but you pull it off nicely.
Also, a dark angle being slain by phallic-bliss giver was the coup de gras, in my opinion.

yeah, unit markings seem cool, but not in a chaos army. i understand there game importance, but i usually find ways around that in game.

Dave, by "squad markings" I don't necessarily mean "a little triangle with a number on it". My little ghoulie mutants have their loincloths/excessive pubes all color coded by group, green, yellow or red. You can't even see it normally, but if you are uncertain they can be confirmed.
I think some little slaanesh symbols on a shoulder pad, purple for one unit, then maybe a blue symbol on the shins of another unit, would be a good idea, just to keep things clear. You never know when TFG will drive over to the store again and whine like a bitch about something so asinine. All those plastic models will be too light to put in a sock and kill him with, so you need a back up plan that does not involve a .45

ok, small update time. first up, thanks to the speed of forgeworld (is that an oxymoron?) i got my FW order in LESS THEN a week! therefore, i got MAJOR DISTRACTIONS i ned to avoid until i bang out the rest of the pink boyz, mainly the

epic scale goodness

and i did get the last piece to my gamesday army


still battling the mold release demon on this critter.

once finals end (next week) ill bang out more of the pink boyz for show. 16 noise marines and the dred and im ready for gamesday.

It's really odd that you got the black legion head with the noise dread, but I actually think he's cooler that way. The noise head is kinda meh for me, but who doesn't like skulls?!

small update. in the midst of finals i have very little time to paint, but i needed to get something done. so 3 more noise marines got based andf got their detail wash. once they dry they get some detail paint then rebase.



and the first layer of washes are on the dred

and the dred is done. still have 13 noise marines to finish for gamesday. 2 weeks is plenty of time for that, especially since the second week will be school free.

I fully support that crazy colored dready, rocking work. Works well with the bone helm in the midst of the different colors. And I dig the HAL9000 style lenses

update time. i ran these boyz for the first time at 2250 points level yesterday, smacking around black templars 2 games in a row. they perform pretty well, a lil AT light despite the 6 oblits and 2 blastmasters and ML from the dred, but cant do much about it.


here is what i have left for the army, 9 possessed marines and 9 more noise marines and its all finished.

nothing to do with 40k, but i have been working on my restart of khador, this si my second caster, the Butcher of Khardov and one of my favorite jacks (behind drago) the Behemoth. in my standard white scheme with excessive battle wear.

Nice work traumatizing the templars, though I think it's kinda ridiculous that 6 oblits + 2 blastmasters + 1 missile launcher is AT lite! Maybe that shows how out of touch I am with 40k

Too bad I didn't take any tanks. Nothing like having squads shredded by 6 plasma cannons and the rest of the band. Too bad the Crusader was in the shop.

ive been pumping out the NM's 3 at a clip daily. school is winding down, i have a final tomorrow, and a review on thursday and im done for the summer. these 6 noise marines are all that are left, and i hope to have them done by the end of the week. after that i have 9 possessed to paint and the 2500 point list is complete. this will bring the total chaos i have up to near 7000 points with my already finished deathguard.

first game with them at 2500 points (their max) was against the new guard, it was a hardfought game, but in the end the IG armor bested me. props to my opponent scott, he is the only long term guard player in out store, and used a very good, balanced list that didnt run any of the chaf i see alot of people running now (3+ vendetta, cherrypicked inq+2 mystics or any of that garbage)

i learned alot about the army when i played them. the larger NM squads need some mobility to make up for the lack of resilency i am used to when playing plague marines. so im gonna give them rhinos i think eventually. the oblits are good, but i need to walk them more and DS them less, and focus their fire to make sure i destroy things. im gonna tweak the list a bit. the possessed drew alot of fire but also ate a vet squad and saved the rest of the army from template death for a round.
