Sideways pics+sinus congestion=mild nausea. No wrecking ball? I've only just got a little of paint on my one Stompa. Are the light Gaze of Mork?

Post by: Buttlerthepug
ah, i have all zee arms magnetized if you couldnt tell. have a wreckin ball. a lifta droppa and a deff rolla (rolla is still in the making.... ill never use it... its just to say i ihave it) and hell no. gaze of gork > hes the meaner one... and i dunno if anyone has played with a stompa mob yet... but holy ****.... i played my cousin today. 5k points (very low point game actually) but he brought three pylons... he thought he was going to be fine since my stompas were behind buildings... till i used stompede and crushed the buildings in my way and nearly got to his pylons... oh... and the awsomely rolled (over 200 shots) from one of my super gatlers.... i think im in love with these bad boyz

Why did you use different colours on the lights?
Seems kind of weird. But still, absolutely brill.
Could we see these other arms of yours, preferably mounted on the stompas?
12471
Post by: Buttlerthepug
theres green and red for the lights. green for the normal stompas and red for the boss stompa... figured i should make him more unique/coolier...
i will also upload a youtube video of all three playing the speakers and i will link it for you all
anyone want different pictures of areas of the stompas? or anything at? maybe suggestions to add to them?

And heres the picks of the wreckin ball on and off the stompa.... im not satisified with the lifta droppa as the size comparison is dislikable... so i will make a new one later...

Hi, i have a OT question buttlerthepug ,
does your stompa's manual come with pieces number?
also any tips to keeping the main body together?
12471
Post by: Buttlerthepug
uhhh, the book just had really good pictures... but no part numbers so it was pretty fail... not to mention i was the first person to pick one up in my games workshop, and i built for the 11 hours i was there (open to close, and no worries not all 11 hours was on one stompa ) and the first one i cracked open had no instruction book. so it was harder to do till i realized i could just crack open another box and take those instructions... but if your having problems just go to ur gw site and check the step by step stompa guilde... its extremely helpful

I guess you're done building, but I don't much like the wrecking ball, it looks like it's wrapped in duct tape. If you still could, I would suggest putting more plating on it to make it look real solid.

Post by: Hordini
As if one Stompa wasn't enough....
Lookin' good so far. I agree with jabbakahut, I'm not really a fan of the wrecking ball, but everything else looks good so far!
The belly guns are quite nice. Those are conversions, right?

hordini- yeh the belly gunz were scratch built onto them.
ty for all the comments. any suggestions for addition to the last two unprimed stompas? and ive decided the third stompa will be grey

You wait and wait for a Stompa painting log and then three come at once (although all from the same person ).
How'd you do the red all over?
I'd like to do an Evil Sunz Stompa but I don't fancy having to paint Mechrite all over it by hand followed by coats of Blood Red.
12471
Post by: Buttlerthepug
ahh, i dont like blood red at all... way to bright for me... so i bought a uhhhhh air brush and sprayed a coat of mechrite red (i love the look of mechrite red) all over with some spots a lil darker and some a lil brighter... i just really like the war driven dull look... just a personal taste...

Have you read the article on photo-taking? That is probably a pretty good place to start. I'm an amateur photographer, so it all just sort of makes sense to me (15 years of photo experience). Really you just need a tripod and learn to use the macro function on your camera (the book that came with the camera generally has some tips for this as well).
Looking at your photo's I see you have what is called flash fall off, try not to use the flash while shooting minitures, make up for the flash with bright light nearby (natural is preferable for color reasons, but a couple lamps works fine).

Now be warned that if you use dry ice the smoke being composed of CO2 is heavier than the air, so it's not going to rise out of a smoke stack.

haha... the two videos on you tube of stompas with music are mine haha unless theres others.... but ya with the dry ice, it will have pipes inside that leed to the stompa pipes... that way it has no were else to go... or does anyone else have a better idea for making smoke?

Also, wow, you must have sunk some nice cash into this mob, but it is clear that you are investing plenty of time into this project too - this is the way it should be with any big investment.

That's what I was thinking, they've also got some liquids you can mix together which have the same affect. And dry ice is rather limited, you have to constantly add room temp water.

How does that work? I presume it converts the direct current from the batteries into that solution which converts the energy by burning the liquid?

Sounds awesome. Just make sure it is disconnected when you are not playing - you know, for safety. It'd be a shame for that lovely $100 Stompa to burn when not attended.
A much easier solution - get some Dry Ice and drop it inside the Stompa. That sucker will smoke like no tomorrow and it will not be a fire hazard. Keep a bit of dry ice in your freezer for special occassions and you will be good to go.
12471
Post by: Buttlerthepug
the dry ice was my original plan but having a cup of hot water in there with LED lights just wont go well... and with the smoke system, it will overall be much easier + it will actually go thru the top where as th ice would stay low... and the smoke unit is insulated so it wont catch on fire... ill also add a switch between battery and unit so i just turn off the power just like i do with my LED

not possible. dry ice must be kept at -27 degrees or it will just go off. storing it would be impossible with out an industrial freezer and even then transport would be hard.

Post by: Solorg
Ah, too bad re: the Dry Ice. I thought it was brilliant, but yah, Chicken, if you are right about the temp, that's the end of that idea!
Butterthepug, yes, if this sucker is already electric (and it looks like you already know something about electricity) then your plan is the best! But my prior advice of installing a killswitch so this sucker is always OFF until you command otherwise is probably still a great idea to prevent, you know, burning down the gameroom.
That Stompa has a HUGE space inside his belly. Looks like this would be a great place to store batteries or what have you. Nice!

well i am very very sad to say i did not win the bids on Ebay... how ever i won the the side hull peices... so what im going to do now... i plan on keeping the side hull pieces and very soon just picking up a stompa from local GW and then i will make a supa stompa by adding the sides... (it will actualy be a really really fun conversion, and pretty huge compared to normal stompaz) or possibly a gargant... (my local GW actually did the return of the beast event and made rules for the Ghazghull Stompa, which they then let me take home and put on a data sheet to make it look authentic, im good at that stuff) so i mite make one of those... ill post the rules for it if you all want... its obserd... then ill make it have the smoke as discussed before and i i will make it walk too! so altho im quite sad, i cant wait! any ideas for this up comming project?

Butler the Pug - got it! Oops!
Butler, you are really on a roll with these Stompas. You have inspired me to begin work on my Stompas as well. I plan to get one of the kits, but I have also collected pieces over the past 2 years which I will use to make an additional 2 Stompas. Perhaps the Kit will give me an extra set of arms. I will have to check the sprues on the GW site.
I still have to find the datasheets for the Stompa Mob. And now what's this about a Supa Stompa? Is there a Datasheet for that out there, too? If anyone can direct me to these (on the net) please PM me or let me know here where on the GW site I can find it. Appreciated!
Keep up the good work, Butler! Some great work you have here.

How tall is the Stompa from the bottom of the skirt to the top of the head and how big is diameter at the bottom? I have an idea.
Before there was anything like small MP3 players for $20, I used to dream about putting tiny speakers in my Rhinos and Land Raiders playing Wagner and stuff and making pew-pew noises when they fired, but I couldn't ever figure out an elegant solution for it. The closest I came was an FM transmitter, but they weren't cheap back then..Now MP3 players are so cheap, you can easily hook up a speaker and amp module to a cheap one in a tank and forget about it, leaving a pigtail for data and power. They give all sorts of neat toys that make sound and light with Happy Meals someone could use.
With a body like a Stompa, you could fit all sorts of things inside there, but the dimensions would be handy to know.

From the images the arms just look a tad bit too red, especially that chainsaw arm. Perhaps make some of the mechanical bits just a standard metal color (boltgun?). I get the same impression with the gun arm. It looks as if the Orks just slopped some red paint over everything all willy nilly, which from a fluff perspective probably makes sense. But it just looks too red to me. Even the teeth on the chainsaw look like they were painted red (doesn't look like blood either!)

Paint a single armour panel somewhere as if it was salvaged from your favourite opponents tanks. And I agree with the "more metal"-statements. Maybe make some rusty iron plates. They will go in another red/orange tone so add some variety while keeping the go-fasta-red-feeling.

ok sooo i didnt have time to paint tonight but was thinking... for the weapons just add alot more color like preferebly a boltgun metal with a wash of badab black to make it a really dark metal then just add rust everywhere. and for the pannels im thinking of making some of the plates a more metal look to them. i was also thinking of drawling a big evil sun symbol with the belly gun comming out of mouth... do those sound like good ideaz? also i need more ideas... its still kinda dull and boring!

For the Evil Sun symbol-If you cut new plating to make it, and paint the plates entirely -or- if you just want to paint it on, the lines can't be too good, you want a spray painted look to it.
