I remember seeing this 9 minute preview of this game, it looked really cool! Quite unfluffy in certain points, but the game looks really good and must be fun!
By the way, where did you get your Avatar from? That artwork is kick ass!
It was created for use on the relicnews forums, it's one of the bajillions of presets you can choose there. I just robbed it for here cos I like it lol.
It has nice concept and lots of potential. But i cant help feel the finishing moves and their same set angle played over and over again will bore the player ( yes i know they said there is over 100 ) But i would like it better if they can be displayed at different angles.

Mind you that's also for the game when it was in development way back when. A lot can change in that time. Also, I'm not even sure it has the same developer as it did then.

Im only commenting from what i see :"o since im not psychic to what happend between the time till now hehe
Luna, why arent you psychic? you can do pretty much everything else lol, also, needed to find someone with good taste, any chance of taking a look at the salamanders termie i painted up quick?
Also, from what i found out the game is alot smoother than the vid i posted, and yea, its been confirmed there is around 100 finishing moves, however, they are all dependant on situations and weapons. (gears style)
From the initial concept to the trailer on IGN, it looks pretty badass. They should offer a LE mini with any pre-orders. You know there would be people buying the game even if they didn't own a console!
But ok, it looks really tight, if that is the actual gameplay rather than just cinematics I might be tempted to be tempted to get an Xbox (try to avoid buying additional Microsoft stuff as much as possible)
dont forget that the 9 min video was all beta work. The trailer looks great and certainly has me dusting off my 360 since ive enjoyed nothing since gears of war 2.
WOW i was thinking a month or so ago that i wanted a game like this. I really hope theres some decent customizability in the game. and i REALLY hope you can have termie armour at some point :-P I'm pretty excited about it. Its nice that its not blood ravens AGAIN. too bad it's ultrasmurfs. being able to paint your armour for multiplayer would be really cool though.

Duh, they want to make money. Money is made on the consoles. That doesn't change the fact that I'll be unable to play the game at all if the don't bring a PC version. I have a 2.5k gaming rig and a work rig worth almosttwice as much but I don't have a TV and I have no intention to buy one...
Anyone knows if there's a way to hook a PC screen to a PS3?
Also, 4 marines in the trailer - 4 man co-op? Left for Inflicting Messy Death?
Not too sure about co-op after looking at the beta work, however it is old and may be wrong, but from what ive seen you only play as the sarge (others dont have BP and chainsword)
also, its rare to see more than 1 marine fighting unless its FMV.
so im guessing co-op may be out of the question.
Pretty sure that this hasnt been posted, but the game that you see here isnt the same one that the 9 minute video features.
The original game was created by a different studio, which has since ceased production on the game which is unsuprising considering its been a year since weve seen anything. Some assets have moved into this new game but it looks like its ultimately an entirely new game, this time without the water(bolt)pistol.
http://kotaku.com/5271667/40k-space-marine-finally-officially-announced-%5Bupdate%5D Its now an Action RPG, which means that without a doubt you can change colour/weapon/skills etc...
I'm looking forward to this, as i actually quite enjoyed FW for its representation of the universe, and this looks fluffier and better.
Did you notice how many acronyms the guys mentions in the developer preview?
"This is what we call Total Ammunition Action Firing Time"
- we usually call that "firing"
"and this is Complete Immersive Environment"
- yeah we call that the map.
"This is Brutal Action Time Sequencing"
- no that's a cutscene.
"Here we have Complete Visceral Combat Tactics Movement"
- no, that's moving.
This game has every bit of shlock rubbish that's present in every console shooter of the last 8 years. Halo started the trend for decent console shooters, and since then no-one has had the decency to try and do something original. Yes, even GOW.
This looks utter crap. There hasn't been a good GW game since Space Hulk."This is what we call
actually tek, call of duty 4 set the standards and overtook halo on its release, much smoother, better ideas and general gameplay.
however, i only really play halo 3 and CoD4 now speaking of which, i may actually play halo since i have nothing else that needs doing.
His Master's Voice wrote:Anyone knows if there's a way to hook a PC screen to a PS3?
If your monitor is the DVI cable kind, you should be able to get a cord that will be HDMI on 1 end and DVI on the other, or an adapter. That should work good.
[brag]I have my PS3 on a 50" plasma tv & 7.1 surround sound [/brag]
I kept telling myself I was gonna build and paint all this new IG stuff, but instead I'm kinda addicted to Killzone2 right now :(
I'll definitely be picking this game up when it's finally done

There are cable for VGA output from a PS3 such as: http://www.gameyeeeah.com/wii-ps3-vga-cable-p-746.html. You could also use a component to VGA converter. There are ways to use the HDMI out but its a bit more complicated as you have to worry about the HDCP copy protection.
It looks really good. I think by the "This is Brutal Action Time Sequencing" they will have a trigger system like in Star Wars Force unleashed where if you time the button combo on the screen just right it will have a matching response sequence. In force unleashed you could cut an imperial walker in half, or crush it.
I'm hopeful, but as we have come to know a flashy trailor does not always equal a good game. We can only pray it is better than Fire Warrior.
Bitz - Relic has already done an army painter, but let's face it, that's kinda oldsauce. I don't just want to make new color schemes, I wanna go through and do part swaps. Let me build my Slaaneshi goodness, even if I won't be getting my Sonic Blaster.
Arsenal - Let's face it, for a game of this nature, you don't really have that many options for feasible weapons/wargear. *Boltgun/pistol (no issue with this, seems easy enough)
*Plasgun/pistol (kinda like the bolter family, but let's face it, how do you really differentiate aside from a higher damage output in a game like this?)
*Meltagun (Overkill on a stick, unless you're squaring off against a dreadnought or something...)
*Flamer (Name one game where they got the Flamethrower right... It's a difficult weapon to do in a game like this. It breaks suspension of disbelief far too easily.)
*Combiweapons (might be nifty with the flamer, but aside from that, it seems like it might just be redundant...)
Power Weapon(s)/Power Fist(s)/Thunder Hammer(s)/Lightning Claw(s) - God Of War, eat your heart out. Sorry, but nothing could possibly be as undeniably awesome as dual wielding thunder hammers or lightning claws. Fluffy? In the case of the hammers, feth no it isn't fluffy, but it would be a solid balance to the fact that you're looking like you're stuck playing a smurf in the single player version.
Chaos Campaign mode - No, seriously... and if not that, then some special arcade-style mode that lets me play a Berzerker and bring down wholesale slaughter upon waves and waves of enemies just to kill some time.

What's that? I think I missed your post while I was utilizing my Hypertext Markup Language reader that's totally outfitted with Hypertext Transfer Protocol compatability and the ability to interact with its interface dynamically while using an optically augmented solid-state digital pointing device.
That's right. I use Firefox. [/obscenely bad sales pitch]

So it didn't set the standard then. CoD 4 is a good game, but how it's suddenly reset the bar is beyond me. Define smoother please?
As for better ideas... You're the good guy, there's the bad guy. Shoot him with this gun. Come on.

The "Trigger System" you're referring to is what we call QTE (quick-time events), and is IMO a very lazy way to make games. A stupid combo entry system that basically pauses the game, and takes the player out of the action, purely because the designers were too lazy to think of something better. That is not how to make a good game.
Sure, Starkiller can kill a Sarlacc in one of two different ways, but the fact I'm not actually doing it takes all the fun out of it. It's a cutscene, but a gak cutscene becuase the "sit back and watch the cinematic goodness" is destroyed by me not being able to watch it as I have to hammer "Y" every now and then or I fail.
God I hate QTEs. gak action, gak cutscene. Wow, you managed to ruin TWO things at once there. Good job.
I like Firewarrior man. I liked how you really needed to pummel the enemy to kill them. Another thing that looks a bit crap about SM is nothing seems to have any impact. An 8 foot metal monster bashing a traitor guard with a chansaw as long as his body? He just stands there and takes it. Poor show.
Don't give me the "it's a beta" rubbish. Why bother showing the tech if it's not ready to show off, eh?
I mean, it looks good. But that's it. Good. I have little interest playing a game that's just good. Games by numbers. Armoured, emotionally distant protagonists taking on a shallow, underdeveloped enemy. That's what I predict for this. This and every other Sci Fi game since Deus Ex.
Overall.........meh.

It's not a case of sounding better, it's a case of not being a transparent piece of gak sales pitch to a bunch of gamers who'll cut right through the bs and realise they're being sold GoW with more colours.
Come on, Halo ruled. Almost perfect 100% scores across the board, 5 million+ copies sold, the reason Xbox actually floated in it's first year [citation needed]. It's a milestone in console shooters.
Maybe not the first, although allow me to introduce Goldeneye.
I fail to see most of the time how the games industry has moved on. Strip out all the buzzwords and you're back down to Goldeneye basically.
So it didn't set the standard then. CoD 4 is a good game, but how it's suddenly reset the bar is beyond me. Define smoother please? As for better ideas... You're the good guy, there's the bad guy. Shoot him with this gun. Come on.
smoother: the game runs at a constant pace, 1 person leaves, another can take his place. on halo if you get a quitter in your team then your 1 person down the whole game. rough graphics and a very cartoony look to it (still a good game however )
Better ideas: the customisation of all guns (except 1 pistol), camo on guns, the ability to crouch or go prone. the ability to blend into the backround (helps when playing S&D) the ideas of earning upgrades on guns via challenges, the whole ranking system idea is a whole lot better.
need i go on? it just takes FPS to a whole new level, which unfortunatly call of duty: world at war killed off with its random glitchyness (like halo) and its poor maps (also, halo needs some new maps badly)
Edit:
although allow me to introduce Goldeneye.
if your talking about goldeneye for the N64 then fair point, i think back then that was one of the most amazing games about, feth, i still have it along with the N64 lol.
This game looks like generic action crap, like everything else that's popular in the video game world these days. I'd be much happier with a 40k side scroller where you can choose any race and possibly swap between characters or something. And it would take them about a day and a half to code the whole thing. Co-op or Live play wouldn't be an issue either.

UPDATE 1- A post on Relic's boards says that this title is not the same game that was leaked in that video from last year. That clip was "for an action title Studio Aus was working on. This is a totally different project, though it does share the same name as the leaked video used."
Sounds like the action game in development at THQ Australia may have been binned, then shifted to Relic and cannibalised for parts. We'll look into it, see if the action game is still being worked on or not.
UPDATE 2 - Yup. Sources have told us that the original action title was cancelled, but that THQ thought some parts were worth salvaging, and handed the leftovers over to Relic to turn into this action RPG.
Last part on page 2 it says
"Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is due out for PS3 and Xbox 360. There's no release date yet, but THQ told us "not this year".
Wow This looks amazing
Thunder hammers being epic and explodey, power weapons being killy, jump packs being kick ass. Even though its Ultrasmurfs it looks increadable and if there is an army painter I am sold.
Really want Eldar to be in there as well. For the whole ballet of death thing
Ozy - yeah I've seen the newest videos. Don't get me wrong; I'm not trolling for the sake of it. I have beef with every modern console shooter.
IMO the most original game of the last [forever] has been Mirror's Edge. This looks unfortunately very samey samey.
I'll probably buy it, but I imagine (like every other 360 game) it'll be sludgy, progressive bashy bash until a boss encounter. Grind through that process for several hours and there you are. Game complete.
My guess is you'll be happier with something like Global Agenda, which is due out soon.
Back on point, yes I do agree with Tek. This is likely to be another "seen it all before" game that rides off the GW Fluff theme....people will buy it becuase it says Space Marine....
On the flip side, I wonder what can be done to improve this genre? I mean, forget the console game, how diverse is the actual tabletop wargame? Surely, its going to be no more or less "repetitive" than the game its based on.
I agree we should show the industry that we are looking for a more fulfilling gaming experience, but its no use batting things like this around the head, I think its all that it can be.....if it were anything else, it wouldn't be WH40K and it certainly wouldn't be Space Marines
gak the bed WH40k Lego would be awesome! Someone email Traveller's Tales!!
Anyone know when this game is set? With all the HH stuff lately, I'd have loved to see the more ornate armour of that era. Plus it'd rule to play the Emperor
One thing that would make this game better is if they replaced SMs with pretty much ANYTHING else. SMs make me feel like I've already played this game a hundred times. It just doesn't look new.
number9dream wrote:Hm the controls looked really bad in the youtube video but I guess that's the super early build.
The trailer makes it look very nice, too bad it's for the Xbox (which means there's almost no way I'm going to get it, unfortunately).
PC please.
Oh and I don't get the point of pausing the action with "finishing moves" type stuff, I think I'd prefer it if it didn't pause that way.
The youtube vid is an early alpha build that got dismantled and cannibalised by Relic for the purpose of the new game. We don't know if those ridiculous pause breaks in combat are still there..
I also heard that your marine would lose his legs and get wheels instead, every time he runs over an enemy he'll go "VROOM! VROOM!" and his backpack exhaust make funny skull shaped clouds.
Alazahr wrote:Hmm... As long as it's better then DoW2...

A rather daft remark seeing as this game and DoW 2 are two completely different beasts.
I was going off of the basis that in DoW2 you expected DoW, but... Better. It was nothing even like it. It was a completely different game that just happened to have to "same" name. No multiplayer maps; nothing. It was more of an RPG.
if you thought the you tube was bad and were too lazy to do a google search to find something/anything better. I am here to save your sorry pathetic asses.
For reference since people are still talking about it...
This is not the game previously leaked onto youtube. This is a different developer using none of the previous game assets to create a game that plays totally differently from the previous build. The higher ups were unimpressed with what had been produced and essentially cut the previous project off at the knees and gave it to a more trusted developer.
There are no "Cinemaction" moments in this game if the press and interviews are to be believed. This is totally new.
I'd like to see screen cuts and cinematic cuts but for crying out loud, I don't want to see it when I'm engaged in pvp or pve.. that kinda stuff belongs in anime not in video games.. just my 2 cents..

Thank god for that, me and 360 are having issues at the moment.
While at first I was excited about this game a while back, the hurrdurr space marine quota has long since been filled and I don't really game on anything but my PC.

Here's some questions that were fired at Relic's Jonathan Dowdeswell at E3 and his responses.
