Hi Dakka, Dakka
Been lurking on here for some time, So I have registered and taken the plunge to WH40K to wind down in the afternoon
I have decided on Dorns finest to start with as the colour scheme is challanging, and you might as well start at the deepend or not at all.
Are my first unit of termies , basecoated and having first ink wash
This blog will be updated as I go along
Thanks for looking

Its Citadel Foundation Paint - Iyanden Darksun and Tausept Ochre from GW makes a great mustard hue yellow rather than the eye melting bright yellow normaly seen in IF

ah very nice. I wasn't sure as the bases where the same color. The desert yellow from army painter looks almost exactly the same. Good job on the yellow!

I have thought about using regular writing ink as a wash. In fact I have a bottle of blue ink staring at me right now. How did you use the inks? Did you have to water them down before using them?

Simple steps Alpharius - no great magic to this paint scheme ..
1) Basecoat - black ( nothing fancy GW matt )
2) First coat - Tausept Ochre
2) Brown ink wash - In the recess's and armour lines
3) Second coat - Iyanden Darksun avoiding inked up
4) Highlight of 50/50 Iyanden Darksun & Skull white
5) Fortress grey raised area / chest eagles etc
6) Black ink the greys & retouch
Still to do -
a ) Decals / Icons
b ) Touch ups
e ) Fine details - jewels / honor badges etc
f ) Paint / fill / grass the bases Automatically Appended Next Post: C & D are secret ...
Normaly a beer and some food...

Only comment I have on the new termie is the color of the loincloth. It blends in too much with the yellow. I would try a graveyard earth color, or atleast something with a little more brown or white.

Been a bit slow here with the fantastic warm weather requiring my presence in pubs drinking cider and topping up the tan with good food and friends.
A few box's of goodies from forgeworld have arrived over the last few days to replace missing bits & upgrades for a old Rhino carcass I found in the bits box and to update the landraider.
Breaking off old superglue is fun and very satisfying as long as you don't bugger up the part
The assault marines have been under coated and I have started picking out the primary colours on the marines
I am still wondering about the Fists shoulder pads for the marines, I don't like decals much and I found some raised fist shoulder pads from a number of places but I don't really like any of them so I am considering moulding some thing myself in green stuff but I am not 100% set on that yet.

Now my question is going to go a little off of the painting comments, which to quickly add looks superb. What I would like to know is, with the Land Raider, with the un-godly "Triple Linked" Lascannon. What are you going to rule it as lol, just a simple Twin Linked Rule, or are you going the creative route and making up like a Mod Rule or House Rule. I think it looks amazing. ... OR last minute thought are you going to run it as a Terminus Ultra Land Raider http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1180072_Space_Marines_Datasheet_-_Terminus_Ultra_Land_Raider.pdf

This is looking really good. Nice work on the Terminus Ultra conversion, sets it apart from the rest nicely. One slight detail: the parchment of the purity seals could do with being a different shade of red to the wax, or even painted as parchment (eg white/ bone) and have some text/ litanies written on IMHO. I think that would add that extra level of detail to your models. Just my two cents, you're quite welcome to ignore it! Vitruvian

Yup I agree, this is still all a work in progress, and I am touching and moving colours around a lot on this army

Or, the old GW ard coat (not sold on thier site anymore)
I really need to get started painting my BA so we can get a game at some point
so far though, your steaming through the models, and they are turning out pretty damn nice!
also, forget mould lines, it seems you can spend an hour trimming a single model, then manage to find one while painting

Meh , It was GW Matt.
A can I had that I suspect is probably about 8 years old now and was never used before.
Even now I can see the shine is reducing on them.
Thanks for the support, I'm not a perfectionist so when I bugger up I am not that concerned .
This is my 1st army after a loooooong time away, So I am treating it as my tester/getting back up army
Oh and the only painted one I have, so I need to have it completed soon ™ if I am ever going to get a few games in.

I'm not a big fan of using both Blue and Red on a Yellow model. Have you considered tightening your use of colors to Yellow and a single "accent" color instead?
8021
Post by: JD21290
Wasnt that purity seal gak was it?
Maybe something to do with its age lol, could have started to clot and the chems seperate.
Im far from a perfectionist, i refuse to drill barrels even lol.
Seems you have your painting back allready then
lol, thats why i need to kick my own ass into painting faster.
Had 1,200 points sat there for a week now, and ive only just this minute undercoated a libby lol.
allthough, im out of blood red (not good when you play BA)
I have no spray left, and my white is nearly gone.
so to undercoat my libby ive had to use watered down skull white, 6 coats of to get a slight cover of the model, allthough its still far too thin in places, but its allmost so thin its a wash XD

If youre worried about your varnish being to glossy or shiny give it a quick spray with some dullcote, it will tone it down right away and help take the shine off.

I've always wanted to do Imp Fists. I love the yellow, it's just so audacious a color for armor ^_^. I guess that's why I play The Sons of Medusa now!
A few minor things for the future:
I agree with a few others in suggesting an alternate color to your parchments. Red seal with a paper colored parchment can still tie them into your scheme.
There are some pretty glaring mold lines that are hard to overlook. I'd definitely think about at least scraping the mold likes from the helmets, some of them have near iron halos ^_-. But for a table force it really doesn't matter too much! Just something to keep in mind for characters and the future! Doesn't take too long if you only hit the big ones, and really pays dividends in look.
A few coverage issue spots ( around joints etc. ) show their head when close ups are taken as well, but again, table top, they're just fine ^_-.
All in all a great looking table top army. Add in a few facebreaking characters with some of the additional attention above for a focal point and you're golden!
16064
Post by: Tauzor
Indeed GreyDeath, but you known the score allways 1/2 sodding mold line you miss that you dont pick up till you see it in pic ! ( dammit ) - been rescored and touched up since

Great stuff there Tauzor. I tried IF awhile back and gave up after just a few squads. Major kudos to you for sticking with "the hardest color to use. period.". One thing that might help a bit from what I have seen with all of your stuff. I am not a big fan of drybrushing because it leaves a grainy texture on the model. Try putting a bit of flux into the paint before you drybrush. It improves the flow of the paint. This has really helped me when I drybrush.
But keep at it! I would LOVE to see that finished "VW termiwagon".

Just a quick question - are you fully constructing the marines before painting them? How do you get over the problem of painting the body when the boltgun is in the way?
I've tried leaving them in bits when I paint them, but to be honest I find it a real hassle painting all those little parts and then scratching the paint job when I have to force the bits together at the end and they don't quite match up!
17916
Post by: Miss Dee
I put the arms together and put the boltgun resting on the hands and move them into possition while the glue is still wet, and then put the boltgun on after painting.
Thats what Im doing to my Partners Space Wolves. Automatically Appended Next Post: What glue are you using? Im using stuff in a glass pot with a brush.
16064
Post by: Tauzor
Well funny you should bring that up,
I tend not to have the BG across the Sm bodies to counter that problem Monkey, If I cant avoid a "dead" area I will undercoat it and paint it before assembly in the same manner of doing internals of vehicles and the like.

Whoo hoo
Oh, I think I have gone yellow blind as well.

They look amazing - especially for Yellow Marines. The ony advice that I can offer is that I don't like the joinson the marines, i resckon that they would ook better with a black basecoat and then boltgun metal on the ridges so that they just add a bit of a contrast to the awsomely done yellow.

Ok then,
The mini leaugue / table battles are over and now I can return back to the army and get it the way I want it.
so.... the first tactical squad have had a bath in dettol and are pre disassembly before been filed , cleaned and primed again
look -> naked marines !
I didnt like the mould lines and the paint job was rushed on this unit, I didnt want the same standard in the rest of the army

Hi all,
A few months ago the wife and I had come to an agreement...
In return for allowing her to decide on the furnishings for the house, I have secured the attic as my own hobby room/cave/panic room.
Since then I have put in a window and spray sealed the roof with insulation foam and the last few days I have been upgrading the floor and laying boards
I thought I would post a little piccie of the work so far.

Nice mate! Good to see some more imperial fist players! I started them today with AOBR so do you have any tips?

Post by: Tauzor
Yup, Take your time with yellow
The undercoat is vital in these swatchs
I opted for a more mustard colour for my boys.
Plan your scheme well, take your time and use very thin layers despite the temptation to lash it all on.
Take care in using black.
Purple mixed in yellow makes a good shader
oh and sharks only attack you if you are wet.

Hi all.
I took a short break from painting, (you know how it gets) , finished my man cave and started on some other house projects like sorting out the garage floor and roof and relandscaping our garden to be ready for some awesome summer parties this year.
I have also been playing around with a lightbox and camera settings , still not quite there yet on what I hope to achive but (macro/focus etc) , practice makes ... well you know!
I have been playing more games, and the rules are still new / dont get it all the time - to me and I have lost a "lot" but in saying that - I have had good times!
a quick look at pictures
yes you have seen him before but after a few games of been handled / dropped / closecombat / beer split on - its all good.

Love the Caestus Assault ram - any chance of a scale shot with a rhino or something?
Also, not sure how I have missed this PLog for so long
Love IF's and your army is rather excellent.

Dakkalites overnight on Sunday to the early hours of this morning my entire IF force shown here was stolen along with my Audi a6.
Any information leading to the recovery of these marines and my car. ... Will be passed on to the police .
I have owerwatch on the usual sales area , if you see any of the above for sale they are stolen

Dude...that sucks....
Still. You should take it as a complement that someone thought these good enough to steal! (I really doubt that helped. Sorry. My commiserations)

I am SUPER JEALOUS of that Caestus. Probably the model I want the most out of anything ever made. Make it awesome for me. Good work all around, I like the duller yellow as opposed to the "hello, I am right here, shoot me now" variety on most Fist armies.

I'm sorry to hear the car was burnt out. Hopefully they took the stuff out of the car first to try and pawn it?
