Excellent work. You could be in with a decent chance, I don't know how they call these things. The painting standard has been phenomenal in recent years, I've judged small modelling competitions and the decision can really difficult.

I've used dry pigments fixed in a series of layers to give the texture.

Beautiful, I love that each one is a 'snippet of time' rather than a display model appearing static. It's like you've captured a moment from the 40k universe and transferred it to a miniature.
I think my favourite is the blight drone, the shading on the carapace and the rust is so complimentary and then you have that beautifully finished eye/camera in purple.
Would like to see more 28mm single figures posted here.

That stuff is freakin' awesome. I've been trying to get good at painting myself. So far I can only paint like the pictures on the 40k boxed sets. I was curious as to how you painted the horns and bone spikes on the khornate demon prince. It looks awesome and I'd like to try it myself. So if you wouldn't mind sharing some of you secrets I'd greatly appreciate it

Beautiful work and very much looking forward to more! And good luck with GD UK - the mother of all GD competitions
I love your attention to basing! However, the upright metals just behind the dreadnought, slightly give an impression, the dread is backing down - which maybe you intended but narrative wise is how it reads to me.

The horn were done the same way as the skull. A basecoat of jack bone, first shadows in umbral umber and final shadows in thamar black. The highlight were done in menoth white highlight and finally a light coat of Gryphon Sepia citadel wash. Finally gloss varnish was used to make shine the base of the horns. All colors are from the P3 range except the wash. That is pretty much it. The rest is simply thinned down paints to ensure smooth blending.

I wasn't sure at first about the grey and almost turned it to gold as on the original model but now I'm really pleased by this alternate color scheme. Might be adding a light freehand on the cloak. I'll see if I have time tomorrow.

My hierarch Severius took bronze at the Privateer Press contest. Not entirely sure I agree with the decision but hey...

Well there is some change for GD UK but it is still some space marine so I am back here for a while. So it is a landspeeder storm ready to redeploy. There is stilll some finition in the assembling process, accessories to add, battle damage, the arm of the sergeant to link to the speeder and so on but the structure is there.
The heavy bolter gunner stashing his bolter before resuming his post:
One wounded ready to patch himself:
Finally, to avoid all the trouble while painting most of the thing isn't glued yet:
The title:
Recon Mission: objective destroyed... ...redeploy...
Otherwise i feel like yellow...

The spotter under the landspeeder is also pinned to the pipre. Originally only the feet of the scout sergeant was holding everything. Problem is that since the foot rest is in plastic it was bending a bit too much on the other side giving an inclination toward the wrong side to the speeder so I had to rectify the matter by giving it another hold point on the other side.

Need I say what I think of this so far? (Hint: Look at the above posts.) I was thinking today how a Land Speeder Storm would work. I think that: - The pilot has a remote control operating device; he goes with the rest of the squad. - The gunner stays where he is and supports the squad. - The rest of the squad jump out first, etc. It just makes more sense - How can the Gun mount be fired without a gunner? I'm not too sure if that was useful in any way, more confusing I'd imagine.

I think that this project is a great example of how we can bring fantasy and sci-fi models "to life" in a really realistic and exciting way. Much like the Forgeworld Masterclass painting guide this speeder really showcases how we can pull techniques and methods from various modelling styles and mediums into 40K to add depth and character.
The chipping on this speeder is especially impressive and matches just as well in terms of execution and quality to chipping on professionally painted Military scale models.

Wow, what a blog. In regards to your 40K work, it all really exemplifies the genre so well. I especially enjoyed looking over the Scout Speeder entry; it reminded me of Special Operations utilizing little birds for rooftop air assaults. Very, very cool.
I will continue to be dazzled by your blog as long as you post. Thanks for sharing.

The base is stunning, is it spray painted?
Also, did you ever finish El Torres?
Good luck at GD France, I was hoping to make it over this year but flight costs and busy work schedule made it impractical.

I work in a gaming store. A few weeks back I announced a new challenge to get people painting. It's pretty simple. Over 8 sessions of 2 weeks the participants have to paint a specific type of troop for their army. If you are done on time you accumulate tickets for a draw and the winner will leave the battleforce of his choice. If you do not finish on time well you are out. In order to encourage people I decided I would enter the challenge. So yes over the last 2 days I've started painting an army, something I haven't done in years!
But don't worry, with 1700 points of Blood Angels I came up with a list composed of 22 models and 2 landspeeders or 26 models and 3 landspeeder. Not sure yet about which one I choose in the end but eh...
So this session it was a troop so here is the family: .

For those of you who actually play the game you might say that Hey! That's an elite choice!!! Well yeah you are right but since I took Commander Dante as a HQ well now they are troops and yes the army is solely composed of sanguinary guard which explaines the 22 or 25 models (depends if I take Sanguinor as well or not...).
And speaking of Dante, well since next session is HQ here is the simple conversion to bring him up to par with the angel theme:
And the bases, if you are wondering, are from the Lost Empire set from Dragon Forge and they are simply awesome!!! Both in style and quality!

Well, I'm not a huge fan of the models. While pretty cool, its just too much swag for my taste. However, these do look excellent!! I love the your choice of colors! It all just looks so ... smooth and soft. Awesome work! Definately thumbs up all around

Best way to discribe judging is the only difference between gold, and bronze is judges personal choice. A demon is a win no matter the color is what Jakob rune Neilson says.
