So I joined dakka originally for the 40k help, but I find myself wasting the majority of my day in the off-topic forum. How many of you guys have been forever drawn into the medusa-like grips of the off-topic forum?

Yeh I might say I'm guilty of that. It's a rare thing you get to talk about all sorts of issues with lots of differen't people.

Agreed. Even though things get heated here often, I think that the mods do a great job and for the most part the dakka community is full of some very intelligent and eloquent people. Obviously there are some exceptions (GBF )

I tend to frequent the off-topic stuff more, ever since a certain troll began posting thousands of argumentative posts on the 40k forums.

Yea... but at least people don't get him on his circular logic soapbox as much on these forums.

Posts too. I think that you still see their posts when quoted.

I guess I don't have a huge problem ignoring people that are trolls, I guess I just have to wonder why I should bother posting constructively when the mods seem to not care when somebody is intentionally disruptive. Oh, and if you try to call them out, you get spanked.

I'm telling you the IGNORE button is your friend. I've only ignored a few people but it's amazing how many "Ignored post by xxxxx" I see. It's very liberating, and a genious addition to the site.

I joined to have a place to post pics of my minis. However I am grateful for the off-topic forum as it has drawn me away from posting on political forums. Even the worst stuff posted here doesn't hold a candle to the craziness/venom one finds on political forums.

I know what you mean. I used to read the Huffington post all the time and commented there sometimes, but people are off the deep end sometimes. The amount of hate generated is enormous.

I'm actually surprised by the quality of the discussion here. Considering it's just the off-topic board of a wargaming forum.

(I suppose I'm pretty guilty of lurking the OT section as well. I do read the fluff section quite a bit.)

In the immortal words of Judge Roy Bean, "If I knew I had friends like these, I'd have carried a gun."

One man's disruption is another man's key post. After all, the entire OT is a disruption. We are not the arbiters of taste, except for me of course, I am the be all and end all of taste.

Sure, if you take your definition of irony from Alanis Morissette.

Its ironic that you would attack other people for their childishness while behaving in a childish manner. It isn't ironic for me to call attention to that irony. Unless you think anyone calling you out on anything must be childish. In which case you probably have a poor understanding of the behavior of children, or lack the ability to effectively shield yourself from criticism. That e-peen you boast suggests a combination of the two.

Constructive critisism of posting styles should be allowed, personal attack not.
