Hot chicks dont play 40k....hence, no. (No offence to any girls here...just my observation)
It's funny about girls though, if they were smart, more of them would hang out at game stores. They get tons of attention, and they're all rock stars when in your FLGS.
Its only because she brought in the customers. And no I haven't girls don't play this game. I met my gf somewhere outside I forget where lol I'm just lucky she lets me play with my little men whenever I want.
No, haven't gotten a girl friend through 40k. I do have an attractive female friend who is interested in 40k and WHFB.
At the Seattle Battle bunker there used to be a decently attractive gal who worked there but she was more than likely bait, who happened to play the game.
Also why all caps and why so many exclamation points?
No, but my wife managed to reintroduce me to 40k. She knew I was into painting these strange little toy soldiers and wanted to find a store in Shanghai. She came home one day and told me she thought she had found the place...and low and behold...she found an LGS. She has regretted it ever since (5 min drive from our place or 1 underground stop).
I never got a GF because of40K or any other GW product. But my wife got into WFB Brits because she likes painting horses. And who would have guessed is that she wins almost every game she plays, her dice rolling is freakish. We have never seen so many 5s and 6s.

That could be taken the wrong way.
Girls would get a lot more attention in a LGS, if you can call attention sidelong glances or outright staring. I have this picture in my mind of a row of guys just staring, game forgotten and gaming paraphernalia in hand. Heh.
I think the hardest part about trying to get more girls into the hobby, is the awkwardness at the LGS's.
As mentioned, all the attention is nice, if you actually want it, and if its not from some creepy old guy that licks his lips between every other word
I know not many of us wander into the LGS on a regular basis, but if we got treated more like part of the nerd herd, and less like a fetish model of some sort, we'd be alot more comfortable hanging out.
Also- dont be the guy thats turns into a pissy lil whiner when you get your butt kicked by a girl. Ive seen so many guys (usually younger ones) that get so insecure about it, that they virtually guarantee at least a 2 year extension on thier virginity.
And remember- dont assume girls dont know what they are doing. Yes, I know the stereotype of the gamer girl that plays because her BF/hubby convinced her too (but she deoesnt really care and hence doesnt know the rules & such). But seriously, if a gal walks into and LGS, she either knows what she is there to get, or will ask for help finding it- girls ask for directions/assistance more often than guys- especially if they're getting stared at in a creepy fashion and want to get out of the place!
These threads seem to be an extension of that game store creepiness, right down to the over-use of exclamation marks. The whole "OMG GIRLS!!!!!!!!!" attitude.
I managed to get my girlfriend into painting 40k and FB. Whenever she goes into the local GW with her friend none of the staff members will talk to them which I find lolsome. But when I go in there with her they come right over o.O
My buddy's got his Girl getting started, and mine loves reading the BL books. Just a matter of time for her.... Just a matter of time...
Seriously though, that's how another friend of mine got his girlfriend. He owns an FLGS here, and met her at a games night they were hosting a few years ago.
Actually yea, my girlfriend in high school I met through the gaming club, though admittedly the club became more about anime, which was more her thing anyway. But I gotta say, actually gaming with her - my Bloody Angels of Blood vs her beautifully painted but still pansy Eldar - was always kinda awkward ...*
- Salvage
*There are so many ways to go from here - excessive fisting, creaming her every game, etc - that I'll just stop while I'm ahead
In the town I live in, most of my school"mates" would hang me if I would talk about Warhammer, roleplaying etc. Particulary the annoying girls.
There is one girl hanging around in our Local Gaming Store, but she's playing Magic.
So I think the answer is pretty clear. No.
PS. People, never again write the subject on caps lock. My eyes burn if I ever see someone posting those things.
I was going to use exclamation points in my post, but I found out that the OP drained the world supply with his thread title, and now there are none left for the rest of us.
please note: any girl you meet who actually wants to PLAY/PAINT our little guys = not exactly date-able (IMO). Perhaps I'm a little biased considering most girls who I've seen play are not exactly... you know. I'll leave room for exceptions.
Girls feigning interest do not count. Ex's have definitely said "oh that's cool". I took one to a Games Day once to show her that this wasn't the weirdest thing ever. Unfortunately, this year had all the weirdbeards, costumed kids/adults walking around. I think she just wanted to see nerd-culture firsthand rather than being actually interested.

Where are you gaming? Our two FLGS have some decent lookers showing up regularily. You may just be going to the wrong stores at the wrong time

But seriously: I once got my gf to play two sessions of D&D--absolutely miserable experience. She was bored to tears and we had to have another PC (who actually is a decent-looking girl) explain the rules every time her turn came up. I can't imagine how bad it would be trying to get her to wargame. Anyway, since then she doesn't yell at me as much for spending the time I do on gaming--just as long as I don't try to drag her into it. They call this method win/win/win: she wins, I win, my group wins. That said, I do like to take her along to the FLGS, GW shop, comics shop given that she's a very attractive, normal (non desu desu, as someone mentioned) human being. Makes me feel better about being there, lol.
I do like Metallifan's strategy of getting his gf started through the books . . . how very GW of you. The student becomes the master, eh?

How unfortunate for you. My wife, back when we were dating, begged me to let her roleplay some D&D with my group. Then, it was the Star Wars RPG. And right before that, she started playing Eldar. Now she's looking to start Sisters. It's all about how you make things sound.
I guess in some odd way I've been blessed by the "mini gods",my ex-girlfriends younger brother is the person who gave me my first 40k minis (DE back in 3rd ed), and though she never played, always enjoyed watching a game.
Now,my current girlfriend is not only very suportive of my "little men" (keeping the kids at bay while I paint),she has been showing a great deal of interest in starting an army of her own..as I said,I count my blessings.
In college, I dated a girl from the gaming club who had previously worked at the GW factory. I told her I was going to marry her for her SoB army. It didn't work out, so now I have to buy my own sisters.

Not at all. Some girls (maybe most girls) will just never be into it.
I don't have much trouble accepting that my gf spends her time doing what she likes (keeping herself fit) instead of being miserable trying to do what I like. Meanwhile, the husband-wife outfit in my D&D group are a bit scary sometimes. I can't imagine having a serious fight with my significant other about the fluff/rules of a table top game.

That or you don't live in B.C.
xD i dunno which one you go to ( i used go to metro town one to look at new releases in the display case )
and sometimes watch them play on weekends ( but my army isnt painted to the point where they allow me to play )
Everytime i see a different staff they nervously asks me if im here to pick up stuff for my bf ( lol i think he mistaken my cousin ... )

Oh, it's hell sometimes but it something else we both enjoy and have fun doing. But seriously, you should see the looks she gives me when I hit on various NPC's. And the gak I take from already having a character that got married in game [to an NPC, not her].
It's all fun though. There are no serious fights, we just aren't the type who fight over silly things like games.
iv never had a girlfriend period.
all the girls i know are either crazy, lesbian, angrt or combination of the 3.

My bf would have to disagree and this is the reason why I show up to tournaments looking good :p Gotta break those stereotypes. And I wouldn't say we're rock stars looked at as "rock stars" more like... fascinating specimens.
And well I suppose indirectly Warhammer got him a gf. I wouldn't have dated a guy who didn't like some dorky hobby.
What you need to do my friend is get ballzapper 5000.
For only 19.99 you can get a dog collar modified to make you ballsy as all hell. One slip of nerdism... ZAP TO THE BALLS! Any delay to talk to the cute new gamer chick will result in... ZAP TO THE BALLS!

Nope. I once dated a chick who painted those little ceramic houses that you find at dollar stores. She thought my miniatures were cool, so I was hoping to leverage her interest and turn her into a terrain factory for me. Unfortunately that turned out to be a short-lived summer fling. :(

I've seen a similar effect in other communities. Military women in general, but the goth/alt/nerd sub-community in particular. At one of those mandatory social events the Army likes to throw, I was standing against a tree with a group of associates who were seated in a circle. Including myself, there were 5-6 guys....and one goth chick. She was wearing itty-bitty black shorts, a low-cut black top, a coffin-shaped backpack, and copious amounts of black makeup. At some point it hit me: if she was dressed in normal streetwear most guys wouldn't give her the time of day, but here she was dolled up as something virtually every nerd guy has a fetish for, and dudes were drooling over her like she was Kate Beckinsale in Underworld.
I started drifting away from that group, eventually hanging out with some stereotypical cheat-on-their-wife player types, which landed me in the arms of a feisty, coke-addicted stripper. Interesting times ensued. Who cares if she didn't know what a d6 was.
Ya my gf painted a gaunt a month ago and ever since wants to paint more I think I'm gonna slowly convert her to a painter for me haha. She makes fun of me all the time but she is just fine with my own little hobby. It is funny though when I bring my gf in my FLGS all the awkward looks..... and whispers (girls dont come here).
i leave a thread for one night and i come back and THREE pages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not wargamming, but myself and two friends found their current girlfriends via PnP RPG's.
My other half also joined me in the wargamming ages ago before we where married and has stuck with it since, alas the other two girls have not, although one did try Necrons for a short while.
My girlfriend enables, but I didn't meet her through the hobby. All the other girls I've dated just sighed at the mention and pretended to ignore my hobby. That's how I know this one's a keeper

a) Dear god. Stop with the caps and exclamation marks.
b) Easy. Say something along the lines of... "Hey honey, just thought I'd let you know I still play with toy soldiers." Pretty straightforward.
If your girlfriend/significant someone (I don't judge) doesn't like it, you're on your own for that. My girlfriend doesn't really mind, and I laugh at myself considering I've spent money on toy soldiers and enjoy scooting them around a board. Actually, my girlfriend wants to help me paint them. So there's not a problem on that front. Plus I've got priorities so spending shouldn't be a problem, ever (not that we share bank accounts yet... At 15, marriage isn't really on many couples' minds...)
YES! well, kindof. in 1999, when I was 18, the LFGS; Caps Somics in Allentown PA had hire a hot blonde. She saw me playing Epic with one of my buddies from highschool (we were freshmen in college then, on x-mas break). She thought I was cute, and one group ski/snowboard trip later with some other people from the store, we started dating. I had 30yearold+ men hating on me for the next 8 months. Comic shop pimp FTW!

Just a quick thought, after reading through the majority of posts (especially first page) the general attitude seems to be that any female gamer who dares to walk into a LGS will be laminated, framed and placed on a wall for all to admire!
Maybe if we all lost the 'OMG GAMERGIRL *dribble*' mentality then more girls may actually want to enter said stores, thus allowing more nerds to finally get gfs.

So thats why she has the "i want you to crash your car and burn to death in it" look whenever she comes by the store.
I often find it embarrassing when the fairer sex makes the mistkae of entering a store. The youngins just stop and stare. Its creepy and embarrasing. I feel like walking up and apologizing for them-"sorry, they're mostly harmless. Just don't make any sudden moves and back out slowly."
Seriously my 14 year has better manners than a lot of what I've seen.
right i can do a post with no excailmation marks! hmmmm
anyway thanks guys for all the support and yeah maybe if we all didnt stare at the 'leandary' female more would come.
i mean my sis quit the game after walking into a shop and everyone staring.
she spent 2 hours in sub way restrurant till i came out.
i feel bad about it now though.
If I was single and I was even slightly more active in the hobby I would assume that I would not ever meet a girl through 40k. I've met one FB babe, but she was married. Even if she didn't play Fantasy she was a redhead with tattoos, so total drool material.
I just live in one of those areas where events are sausage-fests. If I want to meet a girl I'll do it the old-fashioned way (in the park at night).
My fiance is a bit of sci-fi nerd (likes Star Trek, Firefly and actually introduced me to the new Battlestar), but draws the line (with a big thick black marker) at Warhammer. In fact she barely tolerates models being painted on the kitchen table.
As for meeting girls through playing Warhammer? Never met a single one myself (well not in person anyway).
barlio wrote: I just live in one of those areas where events are sausage-fests. If I want to meet a girl I'll do it the old-fashioned way (in the park at night).
That sounds incredibly suspicious.
My FLGS doesn't have this staring problem as far as I can tell. Frankly a lot of girls that come in are completely ignored. Recently a random MtG girl came up to the painting table, where I was sitting, having just packed all of my things into the car outside and was just finishing off a drink...
"Hey, did anyone ever tell you you look like Orlando Bloom?" Shocked, and my general dislike of elves and elf-references bubbling over, I said to everyone but her, "Well, I guess I'd better be leaving," and promptly left. The look on her face was priceless.
But on that note, most of the regulars either have partners or are happy being young and carefree. The shop is pretty central in town and is technically an internet cafe on the side, so there are plenty of different visitors. The professional oglers get a better view out the front window anyway, and can actually comment on what they see without disturbing anyone.
Met a nice girl back in 3rd edition (I was 15ish?), and we dated for about 6 months. She played Nids, I played DA, that kept things spicy.
My father-in-law runs a hotwheels stand at a collectors show, and told me about these guys who just moved in and have tables set up with little plastic tanks and men, and they roll dice to see who dies, (exact words, I swear) and my wife, being the loving soul that she is, insisted that I go back to my parents house and pick up my army to go play. She had no idea I had 20k+ points worth of stuff to take up space with.
I have gotten her into painting though, she enjoys that at least.
I think this thread is pretty indicative of why women avoid the hobby on the whole. The responses range from bad pick-up lines to spastic incoherence.
I've never met a gf through 40k/FB, but I have had a number of anime/tcg game store girls approach that flirty/crush zone. The whole married thing seems to keep most of that away, thankfully.
My wife likes that I have a hobby that has a creative outlet. I don't drink, don't do drugs, and I hate sports. She would much prefer me gluing together inch-high Incan dinosaur warriors and asking her how her day went than just mindlessly sitting on the couch with a beer in my hand lost in some sporting competition between the same people I couldn't stand in high school.

Don't tempt fate. One day you will walk into a LGS that does sell cherry flavored latex safe lubricant, and then you'll have to deal with the creepy looks the staff is giving you. I remember the last time I walked into my local BDSM/Wargames store.....
lol, they really freak out if a girl comes to the LGS?
I mean, it's not that common sure, but it's not like the parting of the Fething Red sea or anything. It's a girl. they do exist. In fact, there are a lot of them out there.
I know a girl who likes fantasy, but mostly putting them together and painting, not so much playing. And my "friend" claims he knows a girl who collects a banshee obessesed army but can't make it to the club becuase of her busy schedule. Do you think he's making it up? (Our club is held only on Saturday so it could be possible.)
"virtually guarantee at least a 2 year extension on thier virginity. "
that made me laugh way too much, and now theres sweet, sweet booze on my keyboard :(
Have to say every girlfriend except one has "allowed" me to paint "my little men" as they put it without any fuss.
The one who basically persuaded me to sell most of it was the worst.
But currently i can get on with it, and she puts a lot of input into how my sculpting is going especially my female cadians and commisars.

Sounds like you need some new gear BrookM. Take a look at these fantastic products designed to fight any pervert at an effective range of 100 yards.
First of all you will need both a tear-gas launcher for ranged shots and crowd control.
Next you will need some industrial bear-mace for those buggers who just wont go down. Keeping an range of mace will provide flexibility from "stun" to "totally knock the hell out".
Oh and my personal favorite, your fists best friend, the tazer knuckles!!!
The Girlfriend's son saw my minis and said "cool", so now he plays Dwarves.
The Girlfriend saw the High Elves and said "cool", so now she plays FB too.
The only stipulation that both of them wanted was that I had to play an opposing army to them, so O&G it is! (Skaven will be next....)
I know a handful of women who play, and really, there would be more, but some of the guys just creep them out.
Anecdotal story: I went in to a LGS with the GF to pick up some stuff, and the local Gray Knight took one look at her, and was flirting with her in an instant. He was way in her personal space, and even had her slightly backed into a corner at one point. Creepy, fat unhygenic men should not do that to any women period.
It's certainly true that a lot of fellas who play the Warhamms creep ladies out BUT, in our defense, some of the girls who play (or the "type," if you like) kinda creep me out.

GW policy 101: Target the uninitiated or apparantly uninitiated and try to sell them as much new products as possible.
I'm guessing the end to this story is
1. You told him to back off and he duly went off to whimper in the corner next to the store order point.
or
2. You and your gf ended up leaving with 3 new Valkyrie's you neither wanted or needed for fear of offending this poor socially inept staffer's feelings

I have always known a TON of D&D chicks, and through my friends wives, girlfriends, and female friends, I've probably introduced a dozen women to PnP rpgs that absolutely love them. Minis gaming, not so much. Probably still resolves around the "We are at someone's house, everyone is friends of everyone else, fun and safety la la la" as opposed to "Welcome to the poorly air-conditioned nerd box with only one visible exit and a bunch of Free Willy man-children and their tiny plastic legions."

did they wargame- one, and her boyfriend got her started
Most gamer girls i've met have been pretty much in the dnd/mtg/larping crowd
There use to be a goodly number of girls at the gaming club i frequent at the college I attend.
Unfortunatly, as the old crowd graduated/moved on, we've gotten a new crowd......and they are
somewhat lacking in the social graces, as such, the only girls that show these days are either
armed (one of the most attactive girls i know is a gamer, and carries a knife), or are also of the
creepy gamer variety. That gaming club is pretty much dead to me.
I've thought of a way to help the creepy gamers though......we start a charity foundation to get them a birthday hooker

I'm not sure giving creepy guys women whose entire job is to perform sexual acts at their creepy behests will help them uncreepify.
I've thought of a better way to help them: purge the unclean.
well, i always figured a lot of the creepyness would go away when they got upgraded from basement dwelling cave virgins to standard basement cave dwellers.
purging the unclean does sound more cost efficient though

You say that like carrying a knife is a bad thing...
The way some nerdlings behaved around her, i was surprised she didn't invest in a bigger knife actually.
I often expected her to show up with a blade to put rambo to shame
I'm just glad this hobby doesn't produce any sexual irregularities besides the normal awkwardness of being a nerd. It's the overlap with anime that I am concerned about. Suddenly, we'll have our asses handed to us by traps playing DE armies.
Recently a random MtG girl came up to the painting table, where I was sitting, having just packed all of my things into the car outside and was just finishing off a drink...
"Hey, did anyone ever tell you you look like Orlando Bloom?"
Shocked, and my general dislike of elves and elf-references bubbling over, I said to everyone but her, "Well, I guess I'd better be leaving," and promptly left. The look on her face was priceless.
Please post a photo so we can debate your likeness
My likeness is irrelevant. No one else can see the resemblance so far, but there are a few random photos of me on the first or second page of the 'Show Yourself' thread if you really wanted to have a pick. I have long hair... that's about it. Admittedly I have a terrible memory for faces and figures, and don't frequently watch movies or television.
The point is that I was basically objectified by one of those horrible nerds at the LGS, and I'm never going back!

Congratulations, that was the stupidest remark the entire wargaming community has managed to produce in a long, long time.

Carrying a large knife is a common amateur mistake.
A small knife and a jar with pairs of lumpy flesh bits next to ya, is much more initimidating than just sittin there with a rambo knife lookin scary

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.
Oh, stop it both of you. Have as many levels of tough guy as you want, just don't derail threads with your laughable attempts at forum politics. Take it to pm, unless you only wanted people to see you flexing your troll muscles.
Although as pointed out earlier, no one has responded positively to the topic. Any takers before lock?
There's a lot of hate (self-hate and otherwise) for the guys building up in here but I say again gamer girls are not exactly the most socially mature individuals out there. I certainly don't think either the guys or the girls have an advantage over one another in that department. When you put two awkward people in a room together, don't be surprised when awkwardness ensues. The main "advantage" (which no one here seems to think is any advantage at all) that the guys have is numbers. So what made you ladies that are posting here get into 40k in the first place? I hear a lot of guys claim their wives/girlfriends are "just about" to play or that people have met other guys' wives/girlfriends that got on board because their husbands play. But--assuming you guys have a different reason--what got you interested enough to devote the time and treasure required? I think that we'd have a better hobby if more women were involved. It would definitely be interesting to see how GW would react (if at all) if suddenly more women were involved. What do people think?
No, and I doubt I ever will. There are a few girls in my area that play WHFB and a couple that play 40k but all of them are less then a treat to the eyes and all of them lack personal hygiene ( I don't like to be around anyone who doesn't shower....).

If anyone says thier girlfriend is hot they are going to have to back it up with a picture. I know a few ... FEW 40k guys that have hot girlfriends and they also have a good bit of money.
Now, my girlfriend IS hot and I will back up those words with this ...

All I have to say is... lol... picture posts like these make me laugh.
I tried to get mine into LotR first since she is a LotR nut and that got me no where so I decided why bother with 40K. You can't mix the kind with the schwag....
Pictures of Canadian girlfriends don't count. My wife doesn't like the game but she won't try to stop me as I will start playing wow again. She hates playing Risk with me and complains when I win. I think if she ever did play a full game of 40K and lost she would break her army down to base atoms with her rage.
The Wife was finished with anything remotely GW about 2 years ago when I pulled a comeback in a game of Talisman and beat her. She tolerates my hobby, but will never join in.
My GF is hot, but she doesn't play 40K. In fact the only game we've ever played together was Battleship. But she doesn't mind that I have a creative hobby. Luckily she doesn't know how much it has cost me over the years, but then again I don't know either. I'd love to back up my post with a pic of her, but if I posted a pic of her anywhere on the internet and she found out, I would probably wake up one morning with my nuts missing...
as far as the OP goes, you're not gonna find a girlfriend by playing with army men.
Good lord no! I've never met a girl into 40k and every girl I've seen in to nerdy stuff I haven't been attracted too. I don't even tell my girlfriends I play 40k until we've been together for while
(But to add something related to the original topic, no I didn't get my girlfriend through 40k, but I got to know her through P&P RPGs, which are more appealing to girls, compared to pew-pewing around with little toy tanks, really )
