Another day, another poll... how do you store your miniatures?

Mine are on my shelves, though only because I can't bear to store them in that dark, dank carry case.

Eventually I will have to relegate some though. Either that are start buying more shelves.

I had to go with other since you can't select multiple choices. I use a Sabol case, Plano multi sompartment trays and store some stuff on a shelf for display. It depends on the model being stored as to how it gets stored.

Display Cabinets for my mini's, I have four of them so far and they are a big help in keeping the dust off.

Although my Scenery goes on ordinary shelves most of the time.

I store mine (for now) in a big, blue, plastic box... more like a tub. It's very disorganized and not very efficient... but it works.

I use a combination of items; right tool for the job and all that. I have some GW cases, some Sabol Army Transports and I also use a lot of Plano 1404 accessory cases for large models.

I can fit two Baneblades or two Brass Scorpions or a Tower of Skulls or five Leman Russ tanks, etc. in a single Plano case and those cost as little as about $11 each in the right store. It's a great, economical option for a few larger models.

I store absolutely everything in custom designed cases that I manufacture myself (i.e. old foam from old trays glued to cardboard boxes that have slots for every individual miniature).

Display cabinets. I put enough time into painting them, I want them to be on display!

I tend to game at my own place anyways, so it's easy just to pull them off the shelf of the display cases and put them back (easier than putting them into the Sabol foam).

I used to have mine on a set of shelves, but now there is not enough room for that within my new home, so I have them stored in boxes and tins stacked inside another giant box.

With my current army out on the painting table, window sill and any other handy flat surface.

I've got a bunch of different storage.

Tool box for my ACW army.

Plastic section boxes for my Inca and Roman 15mm armies.

Cardboard boxes for my 6mm Napoleonic army and my Battletech models.

Various 3rd party foam lined briefcases for my 28mm role-playing and 40K figures.

Various 3rd party foam lined small boxes and cases for my 1/3000 naval fleets.

I don't have enough finished tanks to worry about storage yet.

I also have plenty of unfinished figures in various parts bins and so on.

Assembled/painted figs I stick in padded cases, mostly some double layer pistol cases I got at walmart years ago for around 5$ each. Theyre about the size of a reg GW case and work fine.

I just got a Sabol case that will be nice for playing at stores or freinds places since I can store units as squads and cram my books/dice into one bag. I call it my giant 40k purse.

Unpainted/unassembled figs, of which I have legion, are stored by race in boxes on shelves in my 40k room. My larger armies generally have one large box, and the bitz intensive armies like SM, CSM and Orks also have a couple of large divided cases for bits (2 for sm, 3 for CSM, 2 for orks, 1 for IG). I also have a box thats just full of misc vehicle bitz and parts left over from other models.

I'm really a combination. Plastic bins while minis are waiting to be prepped, assembled, based, and/or otherwise painted.

Once painted most are stored in a foam brick of some sort (ala Battlefoam or sabol). Then I rotate armies in and out of the display case depending on what is being played at the time. If I'm playing the army a lot it is usually in foam to grab on the go. Armies that are stagnent get to hang out and look good.

I'd like to them on display, but my girlfriend don't get the point in spreading my "tiny bizarre thingys" all over the house...

So when they're not on the WIP desk, or on the tabletop, they're being displayed... in a closed wardrobe!!!!

But when I'm there, I can open the doors and watch'em as much as I want huh!!!

Depends...

New stuff goes on a storage shelf until I get to it.

WIP stuff goes on a bookshelf or storage shelf near the painting table. I'm fickle and work on multiple subjects at once.

Painted figs are either in the display case (stuff I don't play much) or in figure cases ready to go (for my currently playing armies).

Since I got a display cabinet, I've had a lot more positive reaction to my models as they look much more like some high form of art than toys, especially when the down lighting is turned on. They have received considerably more admiration from visitors than when they were on my desk or piled away in boxes.

Need to allow multiple options on this one. For me:
In cardboard boxes
In an official GW army case
In a third party army case
(Most of the boxes and cases are in a closest)
Visible on open shelving or surfaces
In a display cabinet

I store my models in a combination of ways. I have a dedicated game room, so my game table is always set up. I'll have some models on the table like a big diorama, and others in a display cabinet (Ikea has a good one for pretty cheap). Anything that either won't fit or I don't feel like putting out stay in GW cases or the big 'ol 45 gallon Sterelite container for tanks.

Random sectional cases for the ones i dont use or care to see .A tool box is what i carry my army in i fit a land raider a predator and a rhino at the bottom my terminators my chaos lord in termi army havoc squad chosen and 25 csm at the top and my codex and rule book dice measuring tape at the bottom as well.

If models sit on the shelves i find they tend to collect to much dust.

In a tacklebox I bought for $8! It's pretty full now, so I'm going to need a new one soon. The GW figure cases are far too expensive for a plastic box with some foam in it, $165 was just taking the cost of wargaming too far.

Mostly cardboard boxes with some sort of packing material, for storage at least. I'm happy to pick out what I need and transfer it to a case when required. Fully painted models tend to have permanent foam-homes.

Depends on the army.

Currently, my CSM have the worst offering- they're just put in empty GW boxes I have lying around. For the time being my Tyranids are also the same (apart from delicate models, like the Hive Tyrant), but I'm in the process of getting better storage for those.

My Blood Angels are stored in a KR Multicase, aside from a couple of EXTREMELY fragile models (converted Standard Bearer) and a couple of vehicles I just keep in GW empty boxes until I have some more foam sheets for them.

I voted for "visible on open shelving or storage space" since that's the primary place I store my miniatures. I happen to use GW cases, refitted cardboard boxes, 3rd party miniatures cases, plastic storage bins, and random foam trays for storage and transport as well, but I didn't really want to just vote "other - half a dozen of the above".

Open shelving, since I don't have a glass display cabinet, but still like to see them. I have an official GW case for transport, if only because I found a good deal on Ebay. I haven't gotten around to getting more trays, yet, due to limited funds. I can fit the troops for both of my armies and then some, but I can't fit elites or vehicles for either. So, since "storage" is ambiguous, open shelving for the long-term and display, GW army case/cardboard boxes for transport.

I have a "fat bag" which is essentially an army case about twice the size of a GW bag, but can still carry about the same amount(doh!), but I got it for $5 at a garage sale. Scrapbooking buddy or something like that. Meh. All my painted models I put in foam or hard carry cases they can't move around in, and all unpainted ones I put in Battleforce boxes. Any models I'm not actively using(so, basically my Nids and all my Fantasy models) go either up in shelves or in Battleforce boxes on the shelves.

i hardly "store" my models, but when i do its the cardboard boxes you get deliveries in. normally i just leave my army on my big table. for storage if im going round a friends house, then i use either shoe boxes or a third party case (i am using a duratool case which i just stick foam in)

Uh... When I'm transporting them to my local store and back I use my GW army case-cheap piece of crap¬¬- and a run of the mill GW regiment sized cardboard box for my tanks. Err...At home my other models end up being tossed into drawers haphazardly till they all fit etc. Meh, the paint doesn't chip much and there's few breakages to care about, so I don't really put much effort into it. There just models.¬¬

A shoe box.

But my favourite models stand in front of my tv.
Keeps my models safe.

Ironic they are safer out of the box.

In short plastic models in a box, metal on the tv.

Mostly on a bookcase shelf/my desk. That gets them unfortunately dusty though, so I'm looking in to getting a display case if I can ever get to Ikea (the nearest one to me is 2+ hours away).

Of course that entails finding a place to put a display case too.

Used to be my book case but I got a big fancy glass display case from a local cafe that went bust, thank you global economic crisis! I also have a nice cover over for the top to hide what is inside when girls come over...haven't used that yet though...

When I take my war barbies away to battle they go in a couple of battered pelican cases because I think that looks more hardcore and because I got em cheap!

I took a large 16x20 shadow box with hinged door lid and replaced the back with a magnetic board and as for my mini's I've cut out and placed magnetic adhesive strips to the bottom of the bases. I can tilt it nearly 90 deg. before some of my heavier pewter mini's slide or fall.

I voted other.
I keep my main army in a large tool case i bought(read got mum to by for me) some years ago.
my other stuff is stored in a mixture of tubs containers and yes margarine tubs. they are very usful for terrain to....
all this is-or atleast in theory should be stored in a large blue plastic box(couldnt get a black one-DAMN).
in reality however its all over my(rather messy) room. finding things is a nightmare-just the other day i uncoverd "Tankbuster Tim" a private in my guard force with a melta and spesse mariine legs(i hate marines) and the head from a spesse mariine flamer. thought he was long gone up the hoover or nicked by one of those theiving basterds that used to haunt my local GW before they were driven out. i hate those bastards-1 of them once nicked 1.5Ks worth of old rare metal eldar aspect warriors from me. and there was nothing i could do. i hate that basterd. 1 day ill hunt him down and kill him. i still see him in my local GW. my hatred of him goes beyond what words can describe. sticking his fat nose into games. picking fault with my models. that basterd

Well as of lately 2 really awesome tackle boxes because I have been transporting my army a lot more lately. They work great for me and nothing has broken while I transport them. Fragile things are usually set on tissue paper. When I don't plan on playing any games for an extended period of time I have a pretty huge plastic case with pull out layers.

A GW case to lug minis around in, a tool kit with custom cut foam for my tanks and monsters.
A cardboard box for the models that are currently unpopular with me and a pair of shelves for my favoured 'out of use' models.
This would have been better if it were a multi choice questionnaire.

I put most of my infantry models inside the foam GW cases. If they are painted I try and squeeze them in for protection. Sometimes if a model is too big though I just wrap them up in tissue paper or toilet paper (extra soft ) and then stick them in with the bigger models. I usually stick the big models, dice, measuring tape and broken and unpainted masses of models inside converted GW model boxes (AKA my Land Raider box that is now sectioned off to hold models). The GW cardboard boxes are deep and wide usually and they are pretty sturdy. Plus they have cool artwork to keep people from accidentally throwing the cardboard boxes away. I have heard horror stories of such things on this site.

Anywho, that's my storage story.

I built a case myself... bought a case from the hardware store and put a metal plate inside. Then each of my models got a magnet in the base. Result: much space and the paint has no contact with any foam.

I magnetized the bottom of all my models so I store them in plastic containers with sheets of metal epoxied to the bottom. It works well since they don't move around. The only problem was when I first started doing this I bought magnets that were WAY to strong. They strong magnets work well on heavy vehicles like Land Raiders but I snapped so many infantry off their bases because of it.

My "third party army case" is a pair of Plano tackle boxes strategically lined with air conditioned filter foam. I have been using these for minus for almost 15 years and it has only failed me once, fortunately it was with plastic D&D minis and it was my fault. I put a good anoint of time in to make these work, and so far, so good!

I used to keep completed models in tins, but I recently got a sabol army transport for my birthday. Very nice. I was always scared something would break in the tins, though nothing ever did.

Meanwhile uncompleted models or other projects on the go cover every available surface in my house. Sometimes I manage to quarantine it to one table, but it always spreads.

Multi-section plastic containers, myself. I seem to run infantry-heavy armies (Tau and Orks), and even my one vehicle-heavy army (Space Wolves) has 4 10-man squads of Grey Hunters and 3 6-man squads of Long Fangs. Gotta go with what keeps my infantry safe on the cheap.

I've made custom carrying cases with the eggcrate foam, infantry balance well in between the valleys. Also cutting out custom shapes from square mattress foam worked miracles for my old Tyranid Army.

Lately, it's been Sabol Foam Trays in a coincidentally perfectly sized cardboard box for my Space Marines. My next army, Eldar, is planning on having a custom display board, just magnetizing the miniatures to the board for transport.
