I know this thread has been done before in the past, but I loved it so!
Just state your song, theme, or whatever and what faction/race it would go well with.
Slaneesh: -I make them good girls go bad
Khorne: -I've got blood on my hands
Speed Freeks: -I'm on the Highway to Hell

Sororitas: -Choirs, christmas carols etc.
Imperium: -EVRYFINK from the Platoon Soundtrack
Eldar: -Can't touch this

Salamanders: -Ebony and Ivory, living together in perfect harmony!
Don't be afraid to post if you don't remember the writers or even songs the proper name, I sure as hell don't! And don't worry about mentioning songs someone else has. If you really can't remember, post what pieces of the lyrics you CAN.

Space Marines (Preferebly played as they use thier drop pods): "If today was your last day" -by Nickelback (I really like that song)
Imperial Navy - Rooftops by Lost Prophets http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnloZ79phsQ (Its meant to mean the Navy bombing planets) "Standing on the rooftops, wait 'til the bombs drop!"
Tzeentch-Master of puppets (Metallica) Space wolves-Who let the dogs out (Baha men) Black templars-Men in tights (Robin hood:men in tights) Khorne-Blood for the blood god (Obviously) (Debauchery) Eldar-The final countdown. (Europe) Salamanders-Through the fire and flames (Dragonforce) Dark angels-Dead memories (Slipknot)
Tomb Kings - Cursing Akhenaten by After the Burial. Personally i think its perfect.
Here are some lyrics:
Awaken ruinous fiend of early generations.
Your rotting corpse is restored.
Straighten your limbs
brush off the dust
bandages restrain you no more.
Necrons: Again we rise- lamb of god
Tyranids: empty inside - all that remains. This relates to the fact that they have no souls.
Eldar-Rainbow In The Dark, Dio. All the aspect warriors with different colors do form a rainbow in the dark. Expecially if the first turn is night fighting rules (i.e. dawn of war)
Slaanesh: Dying to be Beautiful - A Love ends suicide. (thought it fits the Keeper of secrets.)
Khorne: The scorpion Deathlock - Devil wears prada. (thought it might go with their brass scorpion, although the song title has absolutley nothing to do with the song)
The best ones IMHO so far are [you know which ones are yours]:
Speed Freeks: Highway to Hell - AC/DC Commisars: Imperial March
Space Marines: Ironman - Black Sabboth
Tyranids: The Ants go Marching One by One [lol so true]
Nurgle: Down with the Sickness - Disturbed
Sisters of Battle: Take it Off - The Donnas [nice!]
Catachan: Welcome to the Jungle - Guns 'n' Roses
Played from speakers on Drop Pods: "It's Raining Men!" [that would be so damn funny, Brilliant!!!]
Tzeentch: Master of puppets - Metallica
Eldar: Rainbow In The Dark - Dio

Space wolves: Who let the dogs out - Baha men
As for my suggestions:

The Emperor: U cant touch this - MC Hammer [yes it does have alot of potential Emperors Faithful]
Slaanesh: Too sexy [cant remebeer who its written by]

Necrons: Tub thumping - Chumba Wumba [if you dont know it look it up, then you'll see why I chose it]

Khorne - 'There's blood on my hands' (Forgot AGAIN,...I'm hopeless)
Inquisition - If you go down to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise...
Definitely has potential, but there is plenty of Gregorian chant ect out there other than Zelda. What faction did you have in mind? (Meditating Marinz?
And I can't get the image of a space hulk kroozing off into the distance playing - 'Right Back Where We Started From' by Maxie Nightingale
Is it madness? Or could I be on to something?
For orks, (well, for Ghrazkull Thrakka at any rate) I think Iron Man would fit too, I mean seriously, MegaNobz.
(Maybe Wazdakka could have Panama as a theme song of course, I will always associate that song with fast cars and such because of Gran Turismo 4's opening [and I can't FIND a video of that on youtube that has the correct audio :( someone help?] Perhaps the first part of that intro could go to the Ravenwing lol.)

i see the fear you have inside
you can run but never hide
i will hunt you down and tear you limb from limb
nothing shall remain
not your memory or name
it will be as though you never ever lived"
among other things that scream bloody death
Imperial Guard - In a ship I'd agree with the Imperial March
Otherwise I'm partial to Fever Dream (Tyler Bates; 300 soundtrack).
Stomping of feet, thundering of drums, and all the other bits of the song describe a guardsman battleforce.

Actually, I think the most appropriate use for this music would be as the SM enter their drop pods.
Outside it would blare "It's Raining Men" -Weather Girls (as i've said before)
But inside "If Today Was Your Last Day" -Nickelback
I don't know, but it just seems fatalistically appropraite. Kinda sad actually...
Traitor Legions: "Vigil"- Lamb of God. This is the traitor legions' opinion of the Emperor.
Our father thy will be done
I have denied this life its worth
I will not be the victim
Sickness to you my master
Heres to getting worse
Hope it kills you faster
Show me how it hurts to rot from the inside out
This vigil burns
Until the day our fires overtake you.
Our father we forsake you
Blessed be his name
Nothing now the same
Ask me why I hate
Why I've prayed to see the nation that I love disintegrate
And gladly give my life
The revolution regenerates
In honor of the strife of those who've died
In generations before for your blood stained glory
I reject you
I deny you
I defy you to continue
I defy you to continue
In honor of the strife of those who've died
In generations before for your blood stained glory
I reject you
I deny you
I defy you to continue
Smite the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered

Another mission,
The powers have called me away. (Chaos Gods)
Another time,
To carry the colors again. (Banner Bearer)
My motivation,
An oath I've sworn to defend. (Worship of Chaos)
To win the honor,
Of coming back home again. (It's WAR, dammit.)
No explanation,
Will matter after we begin.
Another dark destroyer that's buried within, (Demonic possession)
My true vocation.
And now my unfortunate friend,
You will discover,
A war you're unable to win. (The whole war against Chaos thing.)
Madgod wrote:Madgod says - Death Metal is Bad. Don't listen to it.
Madgod says - Imperium Song = Viva la Vida by Coldplay
Agreed, death metal is bad. Get the real thing, listen to heavy metal, the way God intended it to be. If you dont know the difference, listen to Iron maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, etc. That is true metal.
Also, Cold play?! yuck Totally not Grimdark enough for 40k.
Note: I dont intend to offend anyone, if you like coldplay, (or deathmetal) that's fine, please though, please dont play it around me, as soft rock makes me violent. I prefer the soothing sound of metal.
@tothelastman: hey that Sabaton aint bad, thanks for adding more good metal to my life.
Ok i'll give I'll to ya. Specially the part about rolling dice. I just don't like associating Coldplay (something I dont like) with warhammer 40k (something I love) It makes me feel dirty, and not in a good way.
I undertand where you're coming from Madgod (heck, I personally fancy the song myself), but Norwulf seems right when he claims it isn't grimdark enough. Maybe it's more suited to a dirge or 40k funeral? (Death to Calgar!)
Anywho, it's still a better option that heavy or death metal. (Which is in the Great Book of EF's Music, ranked somewhere between crying babies and a dog defecating)
Different strokes for different folks. You don't have to like what I like, you just have to like what I like to be as awesome as me! (denial is such a warm comfy blanket!)
Funfact: When Iron maiden wrote the song "To tame a land" which is about Frank Herbert's "Dune", they originally wanted to call it "Dune". But Frank Herbert wrote them back saying he detests rock and roll music, especially metal.
It's odd how people who really like something can have totally different tastes in other areas. I've seen alot of various types of music in this forum. Which is funny because part of what originally attracted me to 40k was how "metal" the fluff seemed to me. Oh well, to each his own.
I know, which is why it is called the Great Book of EF's Music.
(BTW, I was only kidding. I'm not a genre kind of guy. I go with songs, not with singers, so I actually do like a bit of everything out there. IMHO a band that does a great song one day will do a fail the next, so there's no point banking on them)

True, excpet for Iron maiden, who are infailable. I like just about every genre of music except emo, and disco.
Tyranids are IMO the hardest 40k faction to peg with a particular type of music, had a hard time with that one.

I actually have to say CSM would have to be Kein mitleid by Eisbrecher. The translation of lyrics are..well...here are some of the lyrics with song.
Where is your god
Great and powerful
When will his kingdom come
Cold and magnificent
Start praying and shut up
No sympathy
No mercy
Do you believe that the tide will turn silent
Do you want this insanity to end
You whine and beg for mercy
You're sorry for everything
You pray to God but God has
No time, no mercy
I actually have to say CSM would have to be Kein mitleid by Eisbrecher
In response to a world where CSM using that theme music I Nominate Manowar Kingdom Come for the Imperial citizens and space marine home worlds ect. . .
Quick quote of the lyrics
"Our kingdom has come
Rays of power shinning
Rays of magic fall
On the golden voice that speaks within us all
For all of us waiting
Your kingdom will come"
"Words of power
Calling to us all
Holding us together while other kingdoms fall
No longer waiting
Our kingdom has come"
Lastly
"Another kingdom falls
The rightful are waiting
But all are not rightful
Wait and receive the weight of the fall"
That totally is vague enough to slap onto a great space-faring empire that holds on the brink of destruction and total domination.

Your kingdom will come"
"Words of power
Calling to us all
Holding us together while other kingdoms fall
No longer waiting
Our kingdom has come"
Lastly
"Another kingdom falls
The rightful are waiting
But all are not rightful
Wait and receive the weight of the fall"
That totally is vague enough to slap onto a great space-faring empire that holds on the brink of destruction and total domination.

SERIOUS 40k music (war marches & stuff, not modern stuff)
IG/IN: Flight of the valkyries
SM/DH: theme music for them in DoW Chaos: Clive Barker's Undying theme tune
Tau: Uncharted 2 theme tune
Necrons: Imperial March from star wars
Eldar: Wilderness intro theme from LBP
Dark Eldar: Battle on the Ice by some russian guy with a really long name
Soritas: IG theme from DoW Orks: God knows what, the fit so badly into the 40k verse

Are you trying to tell me that, in the war-torn universe of 40k, a legion of unrelenting technobarbarian aliens with extremely sturdy biologies and a warrior-like culture, has no place?
Because I would laugh at you. And then when I stopped laughing, I would read your post, and laugh a little more.
Then leave.
Here's the Ork theme from DoW2. Not my favorite one, but I think it gives the idea of a barbaric army marching against civilization quite well.

It's not that which annoys me, it's the way they always say things like "da boyz" and "krump da humies" and how something so primitive could possibly have tech as advanced as inter-stellar travel and massive tanks. It just doesnt seem like a sci-fi thing. No offence to ork players, but they dont seem grimdark when you think of a bunch of green-skinned hunchbacks in sunglasses with big mgs screaming DAKKA DAKKA!. In fact that image in my head is hilarious.

So you're saying that a race created as a weapon of war against a galactic foe, which just so happens to not have the biological capacity to speak Low Gothic (translated as English for our sakes) properly, couldn't have developed space travel or stolen it from someone else? A race that has the concepts of mechanics and biology written into their genes, so that those born with the right set of genes understand these concepts instinctively, couldn't have built a spaceship of some kind?
Because I'm fairly certain humans have a damned hard time speaking the Eldar or Tau tongues. And humans have developed LESS than Orks over the past ten thousand years in 40k-- yeah, that's right, Orks are more scientifically inclined than humans in the 40k universe. They saw an Imperial titan and what did they do? By the Emperor, they built their own damn titan. They saw Space Marines teleporting in, and damnit, they wanted to do that, too-- what better way to get stuck in? And they DID. Do not underestimate the low cunning and innovative out-of-the-box thinking that Orks have. It will only lead to an embarrassing defeat. They may appear stupid, and hell, most of them may be stupid.
But it only takes one brilliant Ork to cause a galaxy of hurt.
woops, dont know how that post got here. even if their tech is explainable, I think they just talk and look like a race created for humour. Anyway, you've got your opinion, I've got mine, lets stop arguing. THE END.
Nurgle - Down with the Sickness (Disturbed)
Slaanesh - Beat it Upright (Korn) or Let's Get this Party Started (also Korn)

Eldar - For the Craftworld (DoW II Soundtrack)

Tyranids- Nomnomnomnom ~ Parry Grip
It's the only thing strong enough to kill that much false metal. The only redeeming things in that list are Amon Amarth and Rhapsody. the IG and Tyranids are good picks on that list too
Says the one linking to THAT trash. The opening was just obnoxious to listen to, and it didn't get better after that. Nightwish is at least pleasant to listen to; the one you linked to is one of the worst metal pieces I've ever heard.
Its so sad when no one appreciates the value of great music....
Automatically Appended Next Post: Die Walkure wins over all. I think that song alone should just theme all of warhammer 40k. The entire opera. all hour and five minutes of it.
For any battle involving humans, IG/SM "Journey to the line" by Hans Zimmer seems to fit well with me. Especially the idea of the Dawn of War deployment.
I've read a lot of people mention "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath, linking mostly to the Space Marines.
Personally (And although of course this is a single unit and not a chapter) I'd say that track would really fit a Dreadnaught specifically or even Chaos Oblitoraters. Yeah!
Tocatta in D for the SoB. I once saw an exorcist (I think....), the one with the pipe organs that shoot missiles. For those of you who don't know your classical music,Tocatta in D is the one traditionally associated with Phantom of the Opera.

SM= Hallls of Montezuma (Cookie for anyone who gets this)
Goffs= Back in Black (AC/DC)
Slaanesh= Rockstar (Nickleback)
Tau= Boom Boom Pow (Black Eyed Peas)
I never really got the whole metal thing in regards to 40k, although I was never a great fan in the first place.
For Tyranids I'd go with something slightly ambient, Swamp Cult by Aklo or similar.
Sisters of Battle I'd agree with Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.
Maybe Danse Macabre for Necrons, something with a creepy edge to it, instead of the tradition electronica and so on.
Halls of the Mountain King might work for the very tense, epic moments as a whole as well.
the Doors for the eldar... "This is the end... my only friend... the end..."
actually even better: "its the end of the world as we know it..."
for the noize marines: "we are the youth gone wild"
for the ultramarines: "over there... over there.. send the word send the word over there... that the yanks are coming..." etc
for the servitors: "15 tons, what do you get, nuther day older and deeper in debt"
for the SoB: "The Hills are alive wit the sound of music laa la la la"
for the Tau: "This land is your land... this land is my land..."
CommissarPaine wrote:Deathwatch= Men in Black (Will Smith)
Naw, that doesn't work for the Deathwatch. It's more appropriate for the Inquisition in general, as the Deathwatch aren't all really very MIB. They're more soldiers than government agents.

True, but hey, Deathwatch wears mostly black armor and is used against xenos almost exclusively . . . but I guess the whole Odro Xenos would fit better.
I'm going to say Freddy Mercury for Slaanesh....
Flight of the Valkryes for Space Wolves...
The theme music from Twilight for Blood Angels...
Screamo for Dark Angels...
Mozart for Smurfs.
Silence for Eldar. Their finely atuned ears do not need primitive music to appreciate the vast beauty of the cosmos, which used to be ours a long time ago by the way, before all you kids started driving in here with your 8 track cassette tapes and rock and roll music....
SoB- Rob Zombie, Dragula
Necrons- Daft Punk, Robot Rock
Khorne/Slaanesh- (If a mixed army) Sex and Violence, The Exploited
