I'm still quite new to the hobby, but one things I do notice is how the games workshop let twelve year olds and younger kids play. I know that they have to let them play but it's annoying how they boast about how they have the best army...ultra-marines...and they don't play properly and ruin the whole gaming experience. Plus it's really embarrising watching some toddler walk in the shop, look at the models and say that 'they look way cool' because then it makes warhammer not look cool at at all. One last final point is how they basically ruin perfectly good models because they broduce them from their over-sized bag and it is usally half painted with the detail obscured and no attempt to fix on broken bits, and over-all poorly assembled.

Not news, nor rumours.

And uhm, they are 12 years or younger, so cut them some slack already.

And man, don't judge the kids, for all you know, that's what they say about you, so...

Hmmm....

Yeah, I can't see this ending well but hey, it is worth a shot I guess.

I recommend finding a new hobby if you can't deal with kids, because it is only bound to get more infested . I think a lot of gamers could benefit from being a role-model in some sense, and there are more than enough aspects to war-gaming to teach something new to someone.

Kids are people too man, and you should remember that most of them have at least one angry parent ready to bit your head off if you feel like being mean to the grubs.

What are you, like, 16? Once you've been around a while, you will learn that, sadly, the annoying behaviours you identify are not solely the province of the twelve-and-younger set. I know people in their fifties who exhibit some or all of those attributes.

This is, as you've found out the hard way, a touchy subject.

But... GW will ALWAYS let anyone into the store as they are potential customers. Even if an age identifying force field were invented, they wouldn't use it as they need the money from these people.

If you want a more mature environment try to find a local gaming club maybe?

Those 12 year olds are this games future too, give em' a few years and they'll work out fine. When you have a niche hobby such as this it's already difficult enough to get people involved. I would much rather have more people to play against than less.

You know what really grinds my gears? Bad trolls.

They come up with a good trick occasionally and it can be fun to watch for a while, but eventually it unravels. You know? Like a poorly constructed Ultramarines Rhino it crumbles into nothing. And I'm standing there saying is that a Rhino or your tactical squad.. I don't know. I DON'T know. You know why I don't know? Because it's nothing. Nothing! That's right, it's just a pile of sprue sprayed blue. Not a tank or some spase marienz. You know it sits there and can be anything. Or pretend to be anything, but it's really nothing and is just there to confuse. And that's what really grinds my gears.

That was the first thing I thought of when I opened this topic.

Look. being part of a community means being able to learn to deal with people of varying personalty types, and accepting people's differences etc.

People are not always going to agree with everything you say or do, especially on a web forum like DakkaDakka, and especially concerning gaming on a game forum. Doesn't mean you can't be a part of this community, you just gotta be willing to accept criticism if you offer up statements on a public web forum.

Relax a bit and try not to be so defensive. You will be welcome at Dakka as long as you don't break forum rules (which includes insulting people).

Dakka has plenty of content. maybe focus on the game related stuff you like and move away from the personal conflict angle.

Post by: SagesStone

Don't worry about it too much I guess. My last post was just the first idea I got when I opened the topic. They can be annoying at times I suppose, but if you don't like it you could always not go there or go there when they wouldn't. If they say something from your army looks cool, it means you must be doing something right with your painting and can explain what you did to make them look that way if you want. Generally though they will probably be bored and walk off, but that means they won't be annoying you doesn't it

Generally how I've seen topics go is if the first couple of posts are kind of an attack the rest usually will be as well. But, no one has really taken this topic seriously at all so just don't worry about it
But trolling is basically people doing this on purpose, so you can see how some people would react to a possible troll.

The models themselves are mass produced so being ruined will do nothing more than boosting sales of the SM leadi....
They must be burned.

Also for your images on page 1 put [img ] without the space at the front and [/ img] without the space in it at the end of the link to the picture.
I go agree with your sig though, they need to jump. But, like all annoying things ignoring them can work at times.

All joking aside:

Assuming you are serious and not being a troll or just making jokes on the internet you are not gonna find answers for what seems to be deep emotional issues on the web in general, and certainly not on DakkaDakka.

You need to seek out some form of counseling if you are as troubled by things as you suggest. Call an anonymous help line, go to a local priest(if thats your thing) or a school psychologist. Gamers on a web forum are not the answer to your distress...

Raging on Dakka will only get you banned.

While I think weve all been there & been annoyed by some younger kids who play, at the end of the day, you cant really blame them for their immaturity, because they are in fact 12. & In any case thats how most of us started. Wargaming is something you arent 'good' at overnight, it takes years to develop decent playing & painting skills, so you shouldnt mock beginners who you feel are inferior to you.

Its also a massive generalisation to say 'all' kids are like that, my younger brother is 12 & is capable of playing a decent game, & painting above tabletop standard. But thats only because when he was first starting out, I helped him, & he learnt faster.

If people want a thread talking about how to teach da' grubs to paint and model I think that would be very appropriate to DakkaDakka. Statistically we should have at least a dozen or two teachers on here that could chime in and create a very productive thread.

I'm not using the embedding link, I'm just taking the link out of the address bar in the browser and pressing the youtube button in DakkaDakka when you write your post. Once for the start of the link and again at the end of the link.

Also some videos are not able to be embedded because of a request by someone, these won't play in a forum and will basically just be a big fancy link to Youtube.

This is a pathetic thread.

I'm only 13 myself and I can paint well (without sounding like I'm boasting) and I enjoy gaming (even though I still can't play very well) but I always listen to what the older/veteran gamers have to say.

Your clearly just one of the children hating people. We're all "nerds" and we're meant to be part of a community.

Your just a killjoy.

Cheers,

Jack.
