Path of Devotion thread is about my Inquisitor and his ever growing Imperial Guard. I started off playing Warhammer with Imperial Guard back in 3rd Ed. Then when the Daemonhunters codex came out, I just had to have it. So from then on my ever growing Imperial Guard was tied in with my Inquisitor and a few Grey Knights.
I will start off with an old pic of my original Inquisitor. I actually made him in 2006 for the store's Medusa V campaign, the first time i actually spent time an made a model for my Inquisitor. Before then, the Inquisitor was just a Guardsmen model that was painted to stand out. So as you can see, this is a poorly made model, it was my first attempt, so I guess you could call it Inquisitor Sanchez 1.0.
I used that model for 2 years, up until Gamesday Baltimore in 2008, where I got the Space Marine Captain blister for buying my ticket. I loved the body pose so I chose to make it my new Inquisitor. And now I have this, my current Inquisitor Sanchez... I don't know if it would be 2.0 or 1.1... I kept the arms from the original Inquisitor and the paint scheme, but other then that, the body, the head, and the back are all new.

So lately I have been repainting my older models and painting my new ones... giving my Imperial Guard a complete make over. This Russ BT here used to have side sponsons, a hunter killer missile, smoke launcher, dozer blade, and some other modifications. In 3 hours I stripped her down, and gave her an new base coat. and in 5 hours time she was done. She used to looke like crap... heck she was 9 years old, I picked her up in 2000 and painted her with my childish bad paint job. Now she looks half descant. The reason I left the sponsons off was to cheapen the point cost of this model... As of late she has been more mobile, firing on the move and harassing the enemy forces quite well, but I never used the heavy bolters, and the hunter killer missile was never of use... So now she is lighter, cheaper, and packing the same punch... oh and I can use her in 500 point games now.
Now still speaking of dusting off old models, I have taken a load of my old Steel legion troops and have begun to paint them... Now back when I got them, in the heat of the 3rd Armageddon war, I was young and painted them horribly with green over coats, no primers, and large grain sand as a base... I have begun an overhauling project to breath life into these old guys. As you can see below, I have given them a more traditional look. With the help of the new washes from GW the look many time better then they originally did.

The only problem I have with my Steel Legion troops is that most of them, like all but 10 models and 5 or 6 heavy weapons teams are of the same two poses... The two below are the majority of my Steel Legion models. Sad I know... but I got like 30 of them plus like 5 heavy weapons teams for 30 bucks... that is a deal to good to pass up. But it is still a pain in the ass to paint and have.
Now the majority of my Imperial Guard now are the Newer Cadian Models... I have purchased enough of them to take over the majority of my forces over the years... here is just one of my Platoons.
I have been slowly doing minor conversions to my army to make it unique to me. I have done things like modify the lasgun to making a las carbine, and even a heavy lasgun, inspired by the modern SAW.

Now I know these next two guys are not unique, or special, but they are used my may army.

Those spikes are hella cool on his shoulder guard but Ido think the Russ is a tad too plain. weather it up, you know you want to

They are looking good. I like it when people take the time to make something their own; whether it's a simple lasgun conversion, or a full on kitbash... it makes them unique to you
Great job with the inquisitors too. From the photos version 1 doesn't look poorly made at all. He's a great combination of different kit pieces. I do like the DE shoulder pad that you've used; very sinister.

Very nice indeed, I love the simple dark green scheme. I also like the new and improved inquisitor, far more life in this one.
Ever thought of modelling some jokero digital weapon rings on his fingers? I always associated that with inquisitors.

You know your models not many people know that one.

I might... I am trying to get enough bits to make the same inquisitor in a non-armored version.
Thanks guys on the complements.
Here is the other tank. I was unable to get doors for the side so I had to keep the side sponsons on. I was able to make the Commander have a cigar.

Lol, no plan on making him traitor... maybe a bit more brutal looking...
I have a bit of a problem... a little group on DA are having a contest for making some objectives... I have 2 thought out and made, still in the proses of being painted, but I have a problem making the 3rd. the one that looks like a mini hill is the third one, anyone got any ideas on what to do with it?
the other two are a wounded scout with information, and the other is a "dirty" rocket that had problem with it's wire-less launch, (darn imperial tech) and needs manual button push.
18981
Post by: Sanchez01
Here are the objectives finished and with some story to them.
The one on the far left is a "Dirty Missile" and has the following story for game purposes:
Inquisitor Sanchez ordered a missile strike with a chemical payload to be delivered to the enemy lines to contaminate the enemy troops and dampen their moral. Unfortunately the wireless system is not responding and is requiring a manual launch. The enemy forces will try to beat you to it and neutralize it so that it may not harm anyone with it's deadly payload, or might try to turn it on you.
The one on the far right is a wounded veteran, most likely a scout for the skirmishing force headed in. He has the following game story line:
One of our scouts is missing. He hold vital information to your war effort and must be found. We do not want the enemy to silence him, nor do we want then to interrogate him. Find the scout and return him for debriefing.
Now finally the last one, the one in the center. Don't let its plain look fool you. Under that dirt is something special. Something that could change the face of the battlefield. Here is its game story:
The people of the area buried a peace of tech that must be recovered. It is the key to success in this region for it is the key component to the defensive grid of the city. When the Xenos took the city the local loyalist stole this and hid it to make sure that Imperial Forces would not have to confront this grid and aid in their recapture of the land.

I was wondering: how did you modify your lasguns? I mean, I suck SO MUCH at converting that I can't tell from the pics, sorry. Your guys look really cool by the way!
18981
Post by: Sanchez01
Yeah man, here is a little thing showing how I did it:
Sanchez01 wrote:This is my little guide to make Graven Pattern Las Carbines. They have a cool little SMG look to them and I personally use them as "Count As" Shotguns for my vets.
First I take just your regular Lasgun arm off the spur. I use the ones with the Bayonet because the knife hilt will be used later on.
Now go ahead and cut off the end of the barrel along with the knife.
Now cut off the top thingy and the hand and emblems off the weapon.
A little off the end, cut off the end, then cut off part of the Lasgun to shorten the weapon.
You can then glue the end to the newly cut rifle.
Now cut off the hilt of the knife and glue it to the bottom of the weapon.
When it dries, clean it up and add to your model.

Yeah I was seriously considering doing that, but my freehand is worse then a kindergartner with a fat crayon so I chose not to embarrass myself with an awful attempt of a flag.
But I am thinking of putting a skull on it, adding some tech looking stuff to make it a downed servo skull that holds info.

Grrr, My printer is taunting me now... where is my sledge hammer... These Space Wolves will be seeing little action in their future... As protest for GW dropping the Lemon Russ Exterminator (And causing me to have to repaint mine for my Guard army) I will not be collecting any new models for them. I will Continue to play them at their current 1000 point range along with my Inquisitor, but other then that, I am overly pissed over my Russ tank.

Post by: Sanchez01
Well for when I want to play Inquisition with Space Marine Allies, I can use my old Space Wolves... This is the finished Rune Priest for my Space Wolves army. He leads it along with a Venerable Dreadnought. I have been told this is the old Njal Stormcaller model. Well the Original owner took off the staff in his arm and gave him a chain sword... So I took off the chain sword and gave him a power sword, I didn't have anything that could be a staff in hand so this was the best I could do. This model was a pain in the ass to paint... 3 days of messing around with it and this is what I am going to leave it as... So with the new codex I can use him as Njal Stormcaller... Don't have the new codex yet so I do not know what wargear has changed or stayed the same... Automatically Appended Next Post:
These are my three tanks I use for my Guard Army.
Last game I played the two Russ BT's were paired together and the Russ Ext went solo. With no enemy armor these tanks put a nice dent in the enemy troops before being overrun by the massive ork wave... (I think all three were killed by the same power klaw)
I might be having a paint ball match with space wolves in a few days so I would like to see how they do vs them...
This match will be personal for that Russ Ext, who was just repainted to the Guard colors from the wolves colors... so for the match I might print up a flag saying "Was I not good enough?" as both a joke and to express my anger for them dropping the tank... Post by: Sanchez01
Had a fun game last night with these guys... 1500... I had one command squad, two platoons with three squads each and a heavy weapons squad, and two basilisks, two russ BT's, and a russ Ext.
my opponent had a sweet Tz lord, two 1k son's squads, two squads of K Bazerkers with rhinos, and an obliterater...
The Imperium won, barely... it all came down to a single role for that last Kill Point, and the roll off that counted vehicle squadrons as 1 kill point and not 1 per tank.
The end result came after turn 7. All he had left on the table was 1 1k son, his lord, and the obliteraters... giving me 5 kp's. I merged my infantry up at the begining so 30 guys was 1kp. I lost both squads of 30 men, 1 jr command squad and the 2 basilisks.. giving him 4 kp's... real close game... and whicked fun... rematch could be soon, and i should bring a camera for pics...
key note of the game... Smoke = best luck ever... I unleashed 3 russ tanks, 2 basilisks, and 3 autocannons into 2 rhinos with smoke... he saved every one but 1 and that 1 hit was an immobilized hit. grr...
and note #2... that table was just robbing both of us on dice rolls... the both of us made some real bad role. he rolled 3 2's for his 3 lasconnon shots in one turn... and that to be honest prevented him from taking the lead and winning... because of that i was able to thin out his bazerkers with 2 earthshakers rounds and set that squad up for a kp in his assault...
one thing that drove me insane was his total fearless army... man that made my mortars cry...
the game was a red vs blue game for the ann aroundel GW store... me = red, so red got a power station...
Now this guy has my troops fearing for their lives... as he knows my troops, knows my "Infantry charges his K Bazerkers just because" next game will be even more of a challenge.

Naw man, I'm with you there, GW schemes shoes a lack of imagination... for Guard that is,
And that the truth, I was really hating the previous colors I had them at, (Green) and well, I was not going to buy any more, and I am not going to sell then, So I went with GW colors to be safe, same for my catachan models... still basing them, but 4 are done (5 if you count iron hand)

With the surprising success of this list above, I am going to advance this army to 2k to please both me and the chaos play (yes the one I keep destroying). I am going to add 2 Inquisitors (Well one reg. and one Lord) to the list, a bane wolf or what ever it is called and some grey knights... if others have any better ideas please speak now... Please feel free to call me a dumb butt or what ever and let me know why... well for the inquisitors... I am going to do Inquisitor Sanchez (3.0)... Yes a 3rd one will be build as I am growing dissatisfied with my current model as my skills have greatly increased sense that was built. as for the other one, well his name will be mentioned as after I build him ps both will have the two mystics for the anti-deep strike

Thanks guys... well I got my first commission gig, i think... He gave me a few models in exchange for me painting his slave girls. The sister will be almost the same and the other one will be done with a darker skin tone, hope all goes well..
Hey infilTRAITOR, I got my first Valk man, for 45 bucks off a friend, still with shrink wrap on the box... any advice on a good all around set up?

Thanks man, working on that last platoon, so when they are done I will take a group shot of the 1500 list

That would be crazy fun, but If I do that, I know just the models

That Vendetta is cool, the really bulky-looking lascannons seem far more menacing than the standard FW ones. Looks like it really means business!

Thanks guys, you all are too kind. Painting is going to be fun... I plan on doing her while I paint my Hell Hound.
Oh I got news for the army on the Apoc side of things... I just got back from a trade. 5 termies, a sergeant, and Captain for a storm lord tank seen below. That is the color I got it, and to be honest, I like it a lot. I put 2 of my Naval troops (Commander and a medic) next to the tank, showing the similarity to the two.
So I propose this to you all starting now and ending next friday.
1. Finish a platoon to match the Navy guys and leave the tank the way it is...
or
2. repaint the tank to my Guard colors.

I really dig the tank, for the most part. And I love your naval guys!
It'd be a shame to waste a paint job like that, but I have to ask - a naval tank? Not that there's no way it could make sense, it just isn't intuitive to me. I've seen the quality of your stuff, think of this not as nitpicking but more asking for your (sure to be impressively good) explanation.

The US Marines are technically under the Department of the Navy. So the way I was hoping to explain it would be that the Naval forces/attached Tech Priests recovered and rebuilt/repaired it. I would assume that some high profile space ports would be under Naval Protection and not under the PDF.

Actually given the size of 40k ships I can imagine the Navy owning tanks to fight against boarding actions within the vessel! Also it could be something captured and put into service by the boarding parties. This reminded me of a great old bit of fluff about why crews weren't simply bolted into their vessels!

I don't think they'd use a tank on a ship, what with the risk of decompression if even a minute hole were put in the hull.
But the thing with IG Tanks that a lot of people seem to forget, is that they'll rarely be from the same regiment as the Infantry or Arty or...
etc...
So having a few Red SH Tanks makes perfect sense in terms of fluff, as "They're just from a different Super-Heavy Regiment" is a perfectly acceptable excuse not to repaint them.

Very True.
I never posted my Militant Roster on this site. And with the Inclusion of Inquisitor Infilius, and earlier my Naval Guard. I will have to make several adjustments to the roster.
The 13th is assumed to be 3 Infantry Battalions strong, each with 4 companies. A 4th company is comprised of support elements such as artillery companies, Tank Companies, and several rear line companies. The Inquisitor's flag ship (Imperial Light Mars-Class Battle Cruiser) should sport it's own guard, thus the red/white uniforms. Which are meant to represent the Graven Naval Uniforms. My idea for the naval forces are to reinforce locations such as space ports to ammo dumps, never in the front but are able to hold the ground and fight just as well as a veteran guard force. So this company would be an all vet list.
A storm lord to me is a very defensive tank. holding ground versus horde infantry and light assault vehicles. so i guess it can fit in the naval forces no problem.

Heh. You know, as a Marine myself I had always equated the Fleet Security forces to the USMC in my head. For some reason though, I never really made the leap to the Imperial Navy including armor and whatnot the way the USMC does. Go figure. Anyway, as I expected, good to read the explanation.
I'm thinking of doing a Naval Security attachment myself (guys in black carapace armor, ala Eisenhorn) for my guard army too. Neat to see that someone else has already come up with the idea.

wow keep the tank those colours, it looks really sweet. the light machine gun probably could do with some filing, and i dont really see whats going on with the ammo hopper, but otherwise, it looks ace

I have done some detail work to the LMG, The model is a tribute to my favorite class in Battlefield Bad Company 2, the medic.
the hopper is just a bad view... in an other angle you can see what i did a whole lot better...
MR. infilTRAITOR, and to everyone else. I have worked out a deal with a friend. To help him out i purchased his Chaos army. I am a choas noob to say the least with me being an Imperial Fan boy I know how to kill this list/army, but not use it. here is the pick of the army and any help/ advice will be appreciated. I will like to use this army to help get future friends into the game by letting them use this one while i grind gears with my Guard/Daemonhunters.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The army came with the codex and the travel case.
In the army are 3 units of 10 1k sons, 3 rhinos, 2 units of 10 K. Bazerkers, Land Raider, dreadnought, vidicator, defiler, 5 man unit of possessed, a khorn icon holder, a Tz icon holder, a but load of heavy weapons and special weapons guys, and some more marines that look like bazerkers. 2 lords, one with wings, a Daemon Prince with wings (it's too funny how small they are), karn the betrayer and a makicor

Remember Metallifan theres always the bit which are within the ship well away from the outer hull and anyway explosive decompression and later asphyxiation is one way of removing those pesky enemy boarders.....A Vacuum conversion/low gravity kit for tanks would be interesting. Magnetise the treads or something, Use a fission reactor for the engines (high tech planets can do this to the Russ......)All the vents would be sealed and removed except for a boarding lock door....May have to pursue this idea more later myself.

Post by: Sanchez01
Well if this tank would be used on a ship I would assume they would use it as a mobile anti-assault boat turret. Using that Mega Bolter to fill incoming assault boats with holes.
15077
Post by: infilTRAITOR
Seeing as though many Imperial ships are freaking cities with engines I'm quite sure there's a place within the ship where a tank can be used 'safely'. The whole crap about armsmen only using shotguns when ships are kilometres long and ship armour is thicker than a land raider annoys me. If lasguns can barely go through human flesh what hope does it have against a sheet of tinfoil leave alone a space ships armoured hull. If they're that scared, use 9mm autoguns. MP5s use 9mm because one of the design specifications was that they didn't want bullets to go through people i.e. in a hostage situation.
Official GW fluff writers need to do their research before they publish some of the stuff they do. Don't even get me started on the caseless ammunition of the bolters...
18981
Post by: Sanchez01
Well GW fluff varies. I can list 3 different things for a Lasgun, and 2 for a bolter. Not to mention the laughable stats for the in-game use.
Lasgun A: (Grey Knights by Ben Counter) A laser energy beam that heats up the target... cooking the man inside the armor, or setting flesh afire with the extreme heat. To me this is a great weapon, give me one... I can cook a Marine my turning his armor into an Oven.
Lasgun B: (Harlequin by Ian Watson) The weapon only makes 2 noises, the click of the internal Mechanisms and the impact of the las bolt on the target... similar to the first one, but not as powerful vs armor.
Lasgun 3: (several other books, they do vary, but they have the same basic idea) a laser version of kinetic energy rifle... about the same potency as a modern day assualt rifle.
But as for the tank... It will be issued to the Naval Troops. Used as a defensive force to hold key locations.

If all goes as planned I should be near Killeen TX, but this summer.
Also I might have to start up another blog about my WHF army, Tomb Kings, as I get them from 1 regiment, 1 chariot, and 3 heroes to a much larger fighting force as I can now add 8 more regiments, a lord, 8 more chariots, and 24 more light horse men, not to mention what ever else I buy for them after i get to my location... thinking of casket of souls and a bone giant.

Empchild, why is it offensive? Please don't get me wrong, not trying to pick a fight at all, but I see a homage and a pretty moving one at that.
To me it really conveys a feeling of respect and a reminder that wars are fought by people, who build relationships with each other, suffer together and support each other. And that the toughest thing to deal with (I would imagine, I am not a soldier so no disrespect intended to any vets) is losing those who have shared those struggles and support.
To me, it is moving because it reminds those of us fortunate enough never to have faced war (thanks to people like you and the service you give) that it is not ideologies or policies dying and suffering for us, but our friends and family.
Just my 2 cents, maybe the author never intended it to be that deep, but that is what I see. No offense meant to anyone, just curious as to what I am missing that it is offensive.
18981
Post by: Sanchez01
Majortom11, well it was meant to be that deep, and I do not understand why it was offensive. But because it was, I removed it from Dakka. I am here to share my love for the game and the modeling. So I do wish to extend my apologies.
To continue with this blog, I will be posting some more guardsmen soon, and maybe a hellhound in there too. I am also experimenting more with green stuff so if that model ever comes out halfway nice, i will post it too.

Well this is what I have been working on for the past week or so.
3 Steel Legion Sentinels for my 58th Steel Legion.
2 have Lascannons, and the last is with a Plasma Cannon.
The one on the far left is my newest one, got him with the battalion box last winter. the middle one is when the armored sentinel first came out, back in the past many years... don't remember the year... I think 02 or 03... I might have been in Germany when I got that or before that in 01... don't remember. The one on the far right is the first sentinel I ever got in 99-00 time frame. just put the spare bits from the new one on it and tried to make it enclosed.
These are still very WIP, just a basic paint job is done, codex grey and bleach bone... then washed with badab black (grey) and grephonne sepia (bone).
