The majority of my painting is done by myself only twice this year has the other player joined me in painting.

Recently, I´ve taken to painting at the FLGS. There are usually between from eight to ten people there, painting Warhammer, 40K or FoW stuff.

Lots of friendly banter, and I get loads done per night, since there aren´t as many distractions. I can highly recommend this to people.

I don't paint socially.

I drink and game socially.

Painting is a shameful hobby that should only be done in the privacy of one's own domicile, behind closed doors, windows and with the curtains drawn.

Up to seven or eight, I'd say... usually at least three at the FLGS though. The painting/modelling/bullshitting table is a busy one 'round here.

Painting is a lot like magic tricks. It's nice when you can give a 'Ta-da!' moment at the end, but it's uninteresting and often painful to see you practicing.

besides, I need too much focus to paint in a group. I dunno how people get anything done; I either get so caught up in conversation I get nothing done, or we all sit quietly and work, at which point I might as well be at home where the light's good!

One or two persons, i use to run a painting at the local club off and on, but now just mayself and a few friends when we have the time.

Usually like 1 or 2 friends, but once a month the place I play at has a painting day, that's pretty fun, and someone usually can help me out.

I paint by myself... if I'm at home in jersey, I paint in front of the TV in the family room so family members join me to watch TV. at college, I paint in my room, alone... my housemates think its a weeee bit nerdy.

Usually by myself. Me and my friends have painted together once. Sometimes I paint at the FLGS, 'tis also a busy painting/modelling/PROFANITY IS NOT ALLOWED ON DAKKA table.

My flgs does lock-ins occasionally. I went to my first such night a few months ago and got more painting done in one sitting than I'd ever done before.

Usually just myself, occasionally one other.

Mostly, me and the missus. Socially, I paint with my two buddies + her. And beer.

Painting in a group is some of the most fun I have at my FLGS. Of corse you have to be carful! My Avatar came away this week with "I Suck" written on his base :-P

I usually paint at the FLGS, since peer pressure is a powerful force in actually finishing and basing a mini rather than just 3 colors and painting the base. So it really depends on how many people show up to game and how many show up to paint.

When painting socially, I chose "Other." It's basically whoever is at the GW store!

I have so little time to paint that I've never even tried to get one of the few players on campus to come by for a paint session, even though they'd more than likely be up for it. I also have no car, so trips to the FLGS depend on one of them driving AND everyone's schedules matching up, so it's even more rare. I guess it's good that I'm all alone, as my hobby table is so densely packed with crap (all very orderly, however) that you'd be hard pressed to fit two people side-by-side (the only way possible) without lopping off their arms, first.

Maybe I should try and get my girlfriend to paint up a spare mini or two. She's quite the artist. Might motivate me to get my ass in gear a bit, too...

people are way too distracting. I have enough trouble focusing on painting to even attempt to add another distraction.

Yeah, I don't know anyone that's into the game or the hobby. So... painting socially isn't something I've gotten to do. (yet, I hope :~\)

Since I have a lot more time than my friends I paint myself daily but I try to organise a painting session for like once a week and we meet in a group of 3 usually then.

I paint by myself at home. Its just too much of a hassle to pack up all my painting stuff and then have to go to the game shop and back.

depends on how many people are at the local GW during the day.. usually 2 - 5 counting myself and the staff since sthat store is pretty slow during the day.

I do troops and converting at home, but I tend to do character models at the GW store (they have lots of colours for doing all the intricate detail, troops are just mass done with the paints I need for them and I may as well use the unshared thus better quality ones I have).

Lately most of my painting has been at said FLGS, because at home I've been sculpting instead. There are usually 4-6 people painting at any one time. I like painting socially, I'm a person that is comfortable holding a conversation while painting. I'm also fairly good at it and like compliments, and more importantly criticism and suggestions to such questions as 'I have a dead guardsman on this scenic base, which army should I make him from?' or 'do you reckon this looks roughly like a marine would if you peeled off his power armour? How would it fit into the black carapace, should I add some matrix style sockets?'

I have a pretty dedicated painting setup at home, I've tried draging my paints and all around to friends houses or the FLGS to paint but it just seemed too much effort for the results.

I go to an art thing 2 times a week but nobody els paints warhammer or other modles

I paint at my FLGS normally, and the crowd there varies. All the people painting invariably flock together though.

Usually just me and my girlfriend. She's been painting all of 3 months and she is way better than I am (with my decade+ of experience). But at least I can say I got her into it!

I've gone very little painting and no playing, so far. I did a little modeling at my FLGS, with one or two others... I couldn't tell if one of them was working or oogling the other guys work.

I paint at college or at friend's houses with at least four or five other people. Its become kind of a regular event for us.

Me and some friends ussualy get together every couple weeks and either do some painting and terrain work or have a game, so I do most of my painting then.

Usually by myself, but my buddy has a painting station at his house where our little club meets, so if I'm not playing I sometimes paint.

I used to paint with a friend of mine at least once a week (probably 3 years ago). It was a very productive time, but now that I've gone back to paint by myself (most of the time) it would be hard to make it a regular thing. I should probably pick somebody and start trying it again.

I paint alone,I prefer it that way,on occasion one of my children may sit at my desk with me and watch (and ask a million and one questions,"Daddy,why are orkz green?","Daddy,why are orkz mean?","Daddy,why is that man holding a bloody head?") or my girlfriend may comment on a certian mini,but for the most part painting time is MY time.

Me and up to five guys go to my friends house and paint every weekend. And we all rotate from fantasy to 40k after a couple of figures and none of us have a complete army yet....except the one that bought his painted -_-

I prefer to paint at home myself. I'm much more comfortable here, and can concentrate better. The store just has to many people running around.

Plus, I can sit in my underwear here

Finding people who play 40k in El Paso is pretty difficult, so I haven't played a game since 3rd edition. I still paint and model and create army list for the enjoyment though. Every FLGS that opens up here seems to close up in a few months, so I paint at home by myself.

Depends for me, I do alot of painting on my own but I have a paint night with the crew in my studio every thursday/saturday night, then even more when tournaments are coming up.

If I ever paint with other people, it's only me and my friend. Otherwise, myself.

i can't paint my models in a group, i'm too much of a good painter compared to them plus our techniques vary so an army painted 5 different ways won't work

I've painted at the FLGS a couple of times. I can't say that it's been very social, but it's been kind of fun. I also painted last Saturday at my local Starbucks. Again, not social, but I'm perfectly comfortable painting alone in public.

It is easier for me to paint in public if I want to do any work on my models before 11 at night. My son goes to bed rather late, and the natural toddler curiosity over minis is hard for me to overcome even when I give him his own things to work on.

My husband and I sometimes paint together at home late at night. I really wish that I had more people to paint with because painting is my favorite part of everything so far.

I've only painted by myself so far, though that may change sometime in the future.

I normally paint by myself but as the question was 'when painting socially' i voted three, which seems to be the normal number.

No I paint with lotsa people, at the local college I teach a painting/model class. Its free just show up 1st saterday of the month, we get about 15-20 people every class. I have even learned a few things too, shading and inking. Building and painting card buildings is a fun thing I also teach them, as they all keep a building they have built.

I paint and model on my own. Though I like having my wife around and she reads or knits or draws. Occasionally she paints but I wouldn't choose go painting communally like in a shop or something. What an odd idea.

I'm never offered to paint with others for the same project, but I do join in their conversation as it tends to be derailed to certain inedible objects being smothered with tomato paste

It seems me and wife mostly paint alone, although occasionally we have been painting at the same time. So much so the second paint station discussion has been raised.

Usually when I paint socially it's at the local gaming store there tends to be between 2 and 5 people there painting (including myself.)

I would love more than anything to have a group that painted together. I'm still trying to find people.

Being someone who's very introverted (at least by Myers-Briggs standards), that's my one time during the week where I can relax and be alone. And by the end of the week, I need that.

It varies, but for the past few years it was usually 3 or more when painting with friends at the Battle Bunker in Maryland on Monday nights or on weekends. Now that I'm reduced to only smaller GW stores for social painting it sometimes is less.

Same as a few others. Depends from how many of the 8ish people in the group I paint with make it in. Only 3 of us tonight, everyone else was watching the Giants embarrass the rangers. MLB, not WFB.

I did not know it was possible to paint socially.

Other people would ruin it for me, give me my futurama on netflix and then GTFO!.

The group gest together every other Friday and lately we have been painting an Ork army for a friend that is tactically savvy when playing the game but lazy when it comes to painting. I spend most of my time by myself, but my wife and kids are getting into it as well now.

It's usually me and my girlfriend painting together.

I don't really like painting on my own, for some reason. Building I'm fine with, but not painting.

A bit of a toss up. It's been a long time since I've been able to play, but still paint when I have the time, usually 2-3 people, cousin and friend. Kinda like a poker night for us, get together at least once a week to paint. Fun times and lots of crazy discussions.

Painting is a solo affair.

tbh i mostly paint on my own in my dedicated hobby space. I did paint at GW but i found the poor light / poor choice of music and the bad chairs didnt really help at all. They just wanted to make me leave and go back to my own inner sanctum.

I normally paint on my own.
I used to share a room with my brother and we would paint at the same time. And I have spent more days/nights in GW stores painting too.

But the most I have done has been a group of 8. We did scenery and a few other bits. Good fun mind

Same here, it seems quite difficult to get people to paint together. As if people are shy about it

If anyone is in the Dorset/Hampshire area of South England who wants a painting buddy let me know ;-)

We hold painting days every couple months, usually starting around 11am or midday , partner puts on a bbq and they often finish around 4am, though I'm usually the only one painting from start to finish >.<

People rock up and leave when they want/need to so people just drop in and out all day and we can have up to a dozen people at anyone time.

Most of the time i paint by myself but i do occasionaly paint with one of my friends which i prefer because we can share tips and ideas for new conversions and paint schemes and generally chat.

Painting alone is a shameful act...

I usually paint by myself but at my local gaming club it depends how many people are there and wish to paint. If I have a friend or two over that are interested in Warhammer I will probably paint with them. All depends.

While my troops don't look NEARLY as bad as they did when i first started(feth lack of detail i call it detail-lite and war-torn) still my painting skills are shameful.

Getting better though; i managed to paint my Sergeants insignias without getting things all cross.

Usually I paint alone. Sometimes I go to my flgs and hook up with up to 3 others but I prefer not because I end up spending half of my time giving advice and tips, and answering questions about painting (because I am -that- good, oh yeah )

There's a good friend of mine who goes to my GW store and i often paint with him. He's new to the hobby like me so other than having different armies we're in the same boat. It's good to talk about how we're getting on with the hobby and all the painting etc

I sometimes paint by myself , but I usually paint with my brother.

I drink and paint with me fellows...

Not that much drinking but enough to make it a bit more fun.

(Then it's the hardcore producing painting which is by my self).

I have painted socially. While I enjoy doing it, I hate the packing/transporting/unpacking that goes with it.

80% of my painting occurs by myself. However, my local GW has a good painting community, so it is fun to go in and see other people's methods of painting and projects. There are about 3+ people painting almost all the time. I will bring in my recently completed work to 'show off' to the store manager and other hobbyists. Getting compliments and tips is a good way to keep me motivated to keep going on my projects.

My two gaming buddies will paint with me after we play games at my house. We also built and painted a gaming table. Our methods are all very different, but the quality is almost dead even, if not very differently style.

Yup. average again. i always feel like painting when i am alone.

I used to paint with other people alot when I lived near a GW store. They had open painting and painting/modeling nights. Now I don't even know anyone near me that plays or paints.....

Mostly, alone behind rolled down curtains with loud music in the background there i sit with my tiny little space people painting their space bodies with my space paint *nod*

But when i am lucky/unlucky a friend or two will join me and we then sit discussing fluff and talking about.. well you know what i mean *nods'

I prefer complete solitude when painting, it is kind of my meditation time. Plus the only times i can ever really sit down to paint and have enough time to actually do more then drip a couple drops in the wet palette before the family needs me again is late late at night when the whole world is asleep.

Usually alone. The wife has no interest in playing, but did manage to crank out 1250pts of Chaos Daemons for a friend of mine to get him tourney ready while I did my own CSM.

On my lonesome. Lone wolf, innit?? I mean, sometimes the missus will be in the room with me when I'm painting (usually using t'internet, or reading or somesuch), but that's as close as I get to painting socially!

I'm usually a solo painter, as I do all my painting/modelling at my house, But so Does my brother and Father. I prefer to paint solo, and In silence, but inevitably my father like to listen to old rock while he does his stuff.
