Since I am going to start tyranids soon with the new codex, I am going to model my new army after the popular villian Aku from the TV series Samurai Jack which is going to get a movie in the future.
Here is a quick summary for those who do not know what the heck Samurai Jack is.
For those that don’t recall the show, Samurai Jack was a four-time Emmy award winning animated series that ran on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004. Created by Genndy Tartakovsky, who was also the genius behind Dexter’s Laboratory and Star Wars: Clone Wars, Samurai Jack revolved around, well…a samurai named Jack. Jack was a noble warrior who is cast into the future by the evil Aku, “the shape-shifting Master of Darkness.” Each episode involved Jack’s attempts to return to the past to defeat Aku once and for all.
If that plot summary sounded lame to you, then I’m afraid we can’t be friends. Just kidding… sort of. Like Batman: The Animated Series before it, I believe Samurai Jack elevated animated action to another level. Spanning dozens of genres, from Spaghetti Western to Kung-Fu to cyberpunk, Samurai Jack was truly more than just a cartoon. Not only was the art superb, but the pacing and the plotting were downright cinematic. Sometimes, there would be whole episodes where Jack spoke fewer than five words and you’d be totally captivated. And, isn’t that the goal of every animator? To tell a story completely visually?
Every time you sat down to watch Samurai Jack, you were treated to a level of sophistication that was truly unexpected, which is why the show still holds such a loyal following. Since I count myself among Jack’s fans, I for one am very excited to see Samurai Jack hit the big screen. The fact that J.J. Abrams is on board (Seibert says Abrams is a “huge Jack fan”) basically cinches it for me, since everything Abrams touches seems to turn to gold. Just for fun, check out the classic title sequence from Samurai Jack below.
Does that mean someone just has to convert up a Jack model and he wins every time against you? Interesting idea though. Makes me want to watch Samurai Jack again. I miss Mako.
i miss Samurai Jack. i need to find those season box sets, i saw all 4 in one spot once and regret not buying them.
anyway... i am interested to see how your hoard comes together... it is a fun idea!
I have to say, as a fellow jack fan, I have considered something along these lines... what i have been making are the ultrabots, that episode is like my favorite thing ever...
I also always wanted to create a Necromunda gang with Necrons wearing fedoras and wielding tommyguns ala the gangster robots from Jack and the Gangsters.
well the plan was that in the movie he will... but they are having second thoughts

SoG
Someone from the store I go to just said today that he is going to make one, just for his army when he faces me. It will be a converted creed and he wants to also do a scotsman as his caldius assassin.
indeed a chaos army like that would be interesting, but in terms of how aku often tries to kill jack, its mostly thousands of drones (gaunts), a weird minion (lictors, warriors, genestealers), and or himself (hive tyrant)
I am not going for mountains and mountains of green stuff, but enough where the model itself plus some modifications are nice.
just saw most of the details for new codex.... may have to change up some choices... especially demongo
Automatically Appended Next Post: updated the pictures. Just pre-ordered the battleforce and the code.... OMG looks awesome... but the amount of troop worries me the same the changes for space wolves were OP
(and dont say............ NO! Space Wolves are not unbalanced! THEY CAN BE BEATEN EASILY!............... Ill just say this......... Jaws of World Wolf..........)
jack would have to be abaddon to survive solo against all that stuff. i'd consider logan grimnar but alot of his point cost is due to the army/unit buffing abilities he has whereas abby is just pure close combat carnage. the GK grand master can unfortunately still be instapunked by strength 8.
YOU THOUGHT THIS BLOG WAS DEAD! But you were wrong.
For I have been flung into the future to bring you my finished models. Some you will like, some you will want to bleach your eyes for, but in general you will be flabbergasted.
By May all the pictures of my models will be up. AND YOU SHALL VIEW THEM FOR YOUR DESIRES!
for those still waiting on the pics. time for an update on the project so far.
working on tervigons, which I decided will each be a form on Demongo staning on top of a pile of dead bodies
also
working on converting warhammer skelaton warriors into the 3 blind archers which I will use as zoanthropes (the archers will be on top of towers to compensate for height)
Uriels_Flame wrote:I have all four seasons of SJ - Will I Am did the title song and some other music in the series. It's awesome and was truly ahead of it's time.
Can't wait to see the finale in movie form and can't wait to see your pics.
Scotsman would have to be an Ogryn wearing a kilt. Jack would look good as the emporer's champion - though he rarely wore armor.
I still have all the toys they made for this limited run... Should check ebay.
I am not doing any good guys, but If someone else does make them. I will literally help them, drive them to a GW store, record the whole thing, put it on youtube, then cry tears of happiness.
I loved the episode with the Blind Archers, so I can't wait to see how you made 'em.
My favorite ones other than the Trygon Aku have to be the Gaunts; the color scheme you used actually looks really cool on them. Are the compound eyes greenstuff?
P.S.: The right-hand thumb on the Hive Tyrant seems to be misplaced.

The gaunts do not use any green stuff at all. The eyes are all hand done.
BTW The hive tyrants hands are made from an upturned scythe with green stuff for hands.
THUMBS ARE fething ANNOYING!

Pretty sweet. The Aku sculpts had me lol. I love 'em! I'm kinda surprised how well the guants work without any converting. They look GREAT, btw. The warriors had me laughing too... but in my head.

I can't wait to see the rest of your army.
You know I was thinking the same thing with the gaunts, they look awesome without any conversions. The bug eyes along with scythe hands look awesome.
You could probably make an awesome army just be doing that paint scheme alone.
Automatically Appended Next Post: here are 2 of the archers
Generalian wrote:Demongo is almost done and boy does he look awesome! A little big... but who said their was any real sizing for tervigons anyway! lol
Im painting Demongo at the Springfield Plaza Games Workshop store if anyone wants to check out the army in person this saturday May 1, 2010 . Pics will be up of the finished Demongo that night.
Hey man! I saw those on the birthday party they had last weekend! I really do like them as Samurai Jack was a great show (Even though I was really young when it ended)
You sir, have given me my next little conversion project. Two words: Sam-oo-ri Jacka (Ork Samurai). Thank you sir!
Oh yes and great job on the army. Bieng a big SJ fan myself, I enjoy the level you've put into your force . Now all you have to do is paint more and post more yah git!
The Good Green wrote:I'm thinking about some Samurai Jack good guys for my eldar team, too. A S.J. ork sounds fun!
Also, I am greatly anticipating your nest update, Generalian.
Thank you! BTW ive already talked to many people as it is about making a good samurai jack army. From what we can tell it would especially character reliant since the diversity of characters on the good side is well.... Jack. Aku has thousands of villians and minions where its mostly just Samurai Jack and the Scotsman... thats it.
If you want to convert like your chapter master or ork warlord into him... awesome! BTW all of these models are legal by GW standards, so if you if are going to make an ork samurai jack... try to keep the ork skin but make him wielding a kantana and have the white robes. That would be awesome! Samurai Jork.
Jork Jork Back to the past, Samurai Jork!

gaaaaaaaaah my want pics now! god i loved samurai jack...i wonder if that affected my choice of army later on...XD
hey i thought of a way you could add jack to ur army
as an apoc only unit
he has WS6 BS 5 S 4 T 4 W 4 I 6 A 4 ld 10 Sv 5+ with a 3+ inv is fearless, has rage, ferocious instincts (when an opponant rolls a 1 in CC they take an automatic Str 4 hit) whirlwind of gore (instead of attacking he automaticly strikes all units in base to base contact) and weilds a two handed katana which strikes at Str 8 and has rending (strikes at Initiative 6) and joins ur opponants forces (because of the following special rule) all ur units with line of sight to him count as in synapse as they rush foreward, as the minions of the mighty Aku, fearless to danger and their opponants to earn glory slaying the infamous Samurai Jack XD what do you think? i think he'd be around 160 to 180 points since he's basicly chapter master seth
edit: yay you added pics! wow...thats...um...wow...
i think i may need a bigger gun to kill that thing...

ehehehehehehehehheheheh I see you noticed now the entire purpose of this army!
Many do not fear Dark Eldar, Chaos, or even Nids when they see them on the table. But when I and my opponnet see a giant aku and demongo with hundreds of drones charging we both are just like....... oh gak!
if you want to get a good samurai jack model, try looking at perry miniatures http://www.perry-miniatures.com/index2.html they've got samurai in everyday clothing, I painted one up as Jack for a necromunda gang, use him as a sergeant for my IG these days

well it has to be fully GW or all custom for it too be legal...... so no outside minis
Demongo looks great. The paint on the face looks good and crisp; he really does look like someone from a cartoon.
Generalian wrote:why does everyone love the trygon? my god anyone could do that if they wanted to!
But has anybody done it yet? Probably not. So you're a pioneer.
The Trygon looks good because it flows incredibly well. Hive Tyrant Aku has the problem of rounded, simplistic edges on a huge area of his body and then razor sharp Tyranid stuff everywhere else. Maybe you could smooth out a few of his parts?

just started putting my salamanders army on ebay... pictures are tough to take with my gakky camera... selling them will help my VC army and getting models for more samurai jack conversions.
if you plan to use it in tourneys or gw stores, yes.
exactly!
Which not everyone does
true

Side note, where are you?
i has an army i wanna try and kill you with 10 crisis suits, 9 broadsides, twenty firewarriors
do you think that'll take down the mighty Aku?
One of the Ushabti models from Fantasy has a jackal head, if you used that and gave them bows they would look pretty authentic. I love the army idea btw... Aku ftw!
MasterDRD wrote:One of the Ushabti models from Fantasy has a jackal head, if you used that and gave them bows they would look pretty authentic. I love the army idea btw... Aku ftw!
That was my original plan actually. I would buy the Ushabti with jackal heads and then modify the arms to hold my own greens stuff weaponry.... ALAS
I have also decided that after my nids are up to 2000 points, I will make Chaos Daemons to represent the Lantern Corps from DC Comics.
Of course the bases will be inter changeable.
For those who have lost all hope... do not worry, cause this is army is far from over.
The main reason why I have not updated this is due to my great interest in fantasy, but I still play 40k.
Since my last post I have made more models and switched which models are which tyranid unit. Thus, massive updates will be made and pictures will be posted in the following weeks.
More importantly I am now working on tervigons which I will reveal more information on later.
For those who wanted to see a Samurai Jack model... I will save that later since I am thinking of using a dark eldar mandrake instead... the Inquisitor model is just too big
So check back later and you just might find a new surprise!
BTW Springfield's Games Workshop is having its birthday on the 16th. I will be there and if you mention this thread or post in anyway, you will get a sticker specifically for your army that you can proudly display. See you there!
Just a quick update from Springfield Plaza's birthday event.
Samurai Jack Nids did awesome and even held back an entire battlion of grey knights and blood angels! Will post pictures soon... computer is being moody.
In terms of the army... the bizzare Bazaar happened at lets just say I got 30 more genestealers and 16 gaunts for the price of around $20. Which means once I finally get my bits orders from 13 different eBay sellers the tervigons will be ready to construct and I will be able to finally post a battle report.
Please comment below as to which army you would like to see me play first. Smurfs? BA? DE? Your choice!
