I love the fluff, but £50 to get a 10 man squad of metal models.
GW must have paid a fortune to produce those minis, they must be made out of gold!!
I still want, I'll just wait and order them from wayland, or giftsforgeeks.

The look like they would be real cool for the two people who play angels of fire.. And yeah sallies. And of course Alpharius the only person who fields them as LotD. The melta guy isnt to hot though. Head looks funny. Chaplain looks ace. And I love the flaming helmet grills. One of them is pointing his bolter like hes gonna fire it! He also has a collection of baby skulls on his leg, what a guy. Overall looking good.

Legion of the Too Damned Much Marines. Which is a real shame, because they are absolutely stunning. I'd love to use several for Angry Marines Black Brothers. Burning rage cooking their yellow armor black, and a fire obsession are perfectly reflected in these sculpts. Plus I'm sure they'd love to cover themselves with the bones of their enemies.

I love these new Legion of the Damned sculpts, but I'm really moving away from metal minis these days as much as possible because the price has just gotten out of hand and keeping the paint on them with no chips is always more challenging than plastic. For about 18 years I liked metal better than plastic but the past couple years I've really changed preferences with the better detail, more parts per sprue, often better pricing and ease of assembly for plastic. I recently painted 10 metal Sternguard and it reminded me why I like plastic so much better these days. I may add some plastic bones here and there to some plastic Marines and hand paint most of my bones and flames on flat surfaces. But I wouldn't knock anyone else for buying the new LoD models, they look terrific.

I have to admit, I really only want the 'chaplain' looking Sergeant model.
OK, and maybe the heavy flamer model.
Too bad GW got rid of their bitz service, because that's going to be a tough purchase to justify...
Also, why I do field a Legion of the Damned squad, I use their rules to represent a 'high tech' special (OK, extra special!) forces type of squad. Rapid deployment, precise insertion type of thing. The 'high tech' being represented by the ability to deep strike and fire heavy weapons on the move. A slightly bulked up power-armored marine.
But, I digress...

The Sergeant is a nice sculpt, but I doubt these will sell well, thanks to substandard rules. Also, By the time Marines v6 roll out, the entire squad entry will likely just disappear anyway.

Current trends suggest GW will keep them in the book. Look at how many old models were reintroduced in the Skaven book. I think the bean counters realised that it was a waste of stock having loads of old models lying around with no rules to encourage gamers to buy them. Thus, I suspect LoTD will continue to make an appearance in future Codexes. Wouldn't be overly surprised to see them in the mooted Blood Angels Codex. The bean counters also like nice wide markets for the models after all.

The price has gone from bad to worse on metal models this past year and to even worse in some countries. If the price is bad in the US it's generally much worse in Australia.
Special weapon troopers at $13.25 US each for the new Legion Of The Damned plus some older models like the Grey Knights Psycannon Trooper is pretty outrageous.

Recently I also noticed that Warlocks are a lot more expensive than they were before the metal price hikes of Sept. 2008 and spring 2009. Having added a few more and as many as I'd likely ever want to my Eldar collection just a couple years ago I hadn't looked at them in a while, then browsing in the store recently as a break from painting I noticed the greatly increased price. Virtually anything made of metal now by GW really pushes the limits of what even the most devoted fans will pay. I also noticed that the Space Marine Veterans in the online store that were $8 each before Sept. 2008 are now $11 US each. Ouch for anyone just trying to build their collection now.

You're just as killable as a regular tac marine if I am shooting you with AP 4 weapons or worse, there is no difference.

Yep. The best way to win every game you have is to make an enemy roll a ton of saves, because he will fail a chunk of them most every time. This makes any smallish unit that costs a lot of points unfavorable to me, and LoTD are high up there point wise.

For some reason I thought that the LotD were physically on fire, with actual flames pouring off their armour rather than just painted on. I do like them, but they don't look all that Damned to me to be honest and now the *wow* factor is wearing off a bit. They've got skulls and flames stuck on, but lots of Marines have skulls and flames stuck on. They don't even have much in the way of bones sculpted on their arms and legs either, and only a couple get proper ribcages. I wish they'd gone all out on them.

Post by: CaptainRavenclaw
Metal Mini's cost less overall to produce than plastics. The moulds for plastics cost heaps of money, so they have to sell thousands of them to make up for that cost. Models like Characters and Legion of the Damned which only some gamers will buy one of for their army (opposed to buying 10 plastic troop choices). So metal is cheaper to produce but costs more for the gamer.
Back on topic, I remember that flamer dude, I'm gonna hunt for a pic of him now. That'd be great, so there'll be more than 10 unique models for legion of the damned, sweet!! But if they're direct only does that mean that we cant buy them from our favourite discounted online shop?
Do we have to go to the dreaded www.gw of doom??
ps. daemonhunter1241 - legion are a loyalist chapter, they just got sucked into the warp and look all evil because their days are numbered, but they fight for the emperor.

I rather like the look of these, probably bite the bullet and buy a box (oooh, alliteration!)
I plan on making a Silver Skulls army with my leftover marine stocks. These guys would make great Sternguard for the Silver Skulls or maybe just use them as sergeant models for tac squads. The Damned Sergeant will likely become Chapter Master Argentius, with a little conversion work and maybe a weapon swap.
Curious to see the upcoming Damned models. Hope that one with the damaged helmet exposing the skull head is in that batch someplace.

Damned Legionnaires 4 (2 Fig Blister) 2-Jan-10 US$16.50 New Metal
One of these will, allegedly, be the 'half skull face' version we saw previously as a green.
Sadly, they look to be direct only?
I can't wait for 'picture proof' myself, but I will be doing so before purchasing any of the figures.

I have changed my avatar in commemoration of these awesome models.
Does anyone have any idea what the parts breakdown is on these yet? I'm intensely curious as to whether or not any of the shoulder pads on these things will be separate pieces... given the marine metals as of late, they usually aren't, but it would be fantastic if they were.

(Damn you GW for canceling your bitz service!)
I would probably be willing to buy the leftovers.

All of the LotD models now showing for Advance Order are GW Direct Only with the exception of the boxed set of five models. The store items containing two models and store items containing single heavy weapon LotD models all have the Citadel "box in a circle" watermark on them indicating "direct only" sales. Occasionally, stores get a few as a "splash" on release weekend (e.g., Njal Stormcaller), but not always (e.g., Commissar Lord), so if you want to be guaranteed to get those models Direct ordering is the way to go. And the fact that most of these are Direct Only would seem to indicate that any possible future models in the range will also likely be Direct Only.

And, allegedly, there are more variations to come, that will also be 'direct only'.
These are the ones we're waiting to see pictures of...

Yeah. In addition to what's on GW's site, there's also...
Damned Legionnaires
Damned Legionnaire with Heavy Weapon
Damned Sergeant with Bolt Pistol and Power Weapon
Damned Legionnaire with Flamer
Damned Legionnaires 3
Damned Legionnaires 4
Are all things listed on the new releases trader information for January. I have no idea what "Heavy Weapon" is - probably a heavy bolter - or what the very first item in that list is, but it's indicated as being a 2-figure blister priced at $16.50 like all the other LotD ones.
The Flamer one is probably the same one as what's in the squad set, only sold separately, similar to how you can get a Grey Knight with Incinerator in the boxed set or in a separate blister. Legionnaires 3 and 4 will either be separate LotD models - which is plausible, as we've seen some parts, like the half-skull helmet that haven't been released yet - or maybe variations of the guys in the squad box.

To add to this. Just got new WD through door, and it confirms 6 more LotD models for Feb.

"Direct Only" - yawn.
If GW doesn't care enough to sell these through brick and mortar stores why should I care either? I like to support my LGS, not pay GW postage just because they don't want to offer their full range to retailers.

Most retailers can special order it for you.
The excuse is they're moving their metals to being more like "splash" releases.
