Post by: children of filth

it started three years ago. It started with an idea. an idea in the mind of a fanatic devoted to the halo game series. that fanatic was the cadian 45'th, and I, as his friend, have decided to go along with it.

our plan is simple, create an army each themed to the halo games and backstory. he's making UNSC marines, and i'm making the covenant. albeit a simple plan in theory, it's going to take quite some work to get off the ground, and a lot of conversion work and greenstuff.

we've modified the back story for each of these armies to tie in directly with the 41'st millennium. the UNSC is an organized government spread through three systems which was cut off from the imperium by violent warp storms, and declared it's own independance.

the covenant are a collective of alien races also caught in the warp storm, and they are hellbent on the destruction of the humans which are defiling the 'holy relics' left behind by their gods, hidden on the planets for untold eons.

the battles that follow are brutal and unrelenting wars of attrition. who will prevail? stay tuned and find out!

here are the first images, i just bought these and haven't even opened them properly yet, bonus points if you can guess what i'm modeling the goblins into, and what the bloodletters turn out as .

cadian 45'th, git in 'ere! it's your thread too!

Hello there fello dakkaties

Now as mentioned before, im the creator of this idea and its been a long time comming for me, the idea came about a little bit before the release of halo 3, but many factors got in the way of this dream, and i didnt realy know what i was doing modeling wise so i left the project alone. Until now, now that im older and wiser it has come to the time to get to work.

Im going to be using converted elisians from forge world, they will have greenstuff work done on them so they can represent the marines from halo 3 and halo 3 odst. but i will not be getting these guys for some time (2 months) but that doesnt mean i wont be working on the project.

I have just ordered some plasticard and ill begin work on a D77H-TCI, e.g a pelican dropship, i have just started the scaling and design process (it's very painfull and time consuming, but worth it ) all of my vehicles will be made of plasticard. i plane to make a squad of three warthogs(sentinels) and a squad of mongoose riders(rough riders)

ill try and show my designs as soon as i can, but intill then back to the drawing board.

Hello there fellow dakkaties

Congrats Yggdrasil, you are the first person to comment, thank you very much.

Ok we decided just to do a realy fun ambitious project, were not making the armys taciticaly sound or anything, it's just for the fun of it.

Were gonna use alot of GS yeah, it will take a while we know, but thats apart of the fun, plus being fan's of the franchise helps to keep us motivated.

Finaly, no pics yet sorry, ill get some pics once i start the pelican.

The Goblins will be grunts... I think that the bloodletters will be either elite bodyguard or just elites, though I would suggest it better to use the Tau for covenent, as they could look like elites with a very simple greenstuff conversion. All you would have to do is round off the plates of armour on the Tau fire warrior legs with greenstuff, then take off most of his head and GS the crap outta that.

we have a winner! the bloodletters are elites and the goblins are grunts, i contemplated using tau as elites but they just aren't big enough. also, i did have to buy a buttload of greenstuff (that's a standard buttload, not a metric buttload) and it looks like i may need more.... lots more...

i should have pictured of the progress thus far later on, when my camera decides to work. i've done the basic shape of the armor on an elite and i made his plasma rifle (burst cannon, i'm making them into a spec-ops stealth team of elites)

i'll be using the tau rules for this army, yes i know, they suck at close combat and sangeili are supposed to be good at it. but the army fits so much better than any other, and i did give it a lot of thought.

well, i tried every other codex, and the tau codex fits slightly better than any other.

also, because you asked, here is the army list so far (still working some stuff out and i'm lazy)

commander shas'o
burst cannon
sheild generator
vectored retro thrusters (wait for it....) 117 points. i had to recount this several times to be sure.

10 fire warriors
shas'ui
markerlight: 120

10 fire worriors
shas'ui
markerlight
pulse carbines: 120

stealth team of 3
shield generators 150

total: 507 points. it's for frindly games for now, as i need to test it for a bit, so i'm sure 7 points won't make much difference.

i also worked out hunters for when i make them; 2 crisis suits with fusion blasters, sheild generators and targeting arrays for 134 points.

that's all until i can be bothered to take more pictures, but i did some more grunts and i made progress on the elite head mark 1.

Ok time for me to finaly post something of actual subtence

So my plasticard turned up and i began work straight away (i actualy played some halo 3: odst before i did )

so here is the begining of the pelican, now i know it might look a bit small but once its "finished" being built, its gonna be thickend and givin its curvature with modling putty.

so yeah, critisism is more than welcome and please tell me how i can improve.

Hello there fellow dakkaties

Ive done a bit more progress on the pelican, i have to admit i thought i screwed up when i started the cockpit lastnight, but after about an hour of thinking, i came up with the following.

I acheived the smoothness with a dremmel type tool, with a sanding tool attached, but this is all far from finished.

I might have a bit of help on the elite head bit.
'nids mawloc has the same kind of mouth as an elite, although the head is wayyyy too big.

hello there fellow dakkaties

thanks guys for the support and help.

Now a little bit of fluff on my part for the UN, now this is just a work in progres and just a summary of the fluff, i will post the full thing at a latter date.

about 800 years ago on the very far easturn fringe, there are a cluster of 3 star system's, these systems didnt have a huge imperial military operational, and reinforstments are several light years away, now the people where sick of the imperial regeim and rebelled the impirials where crushed. also in the mix the rebel's fought amongnst them selves for who should be in charge, but the thing that united them was there common cause to fight the imperium and all facist governments, thus the formation of the UN (in the 41st millenium, also there was only one rebel faction)

now that was a mess, but i will give you the full thing later.

until then, live long and paint well

are you kidding?! i'm not sculpting that many elites! grunts are the mainline infantry! and kroot are brutes anyway.

list of species time;

fire warriors: grunts

commander: elite commander

stealth suits: stealth elites

kroot: brutes

vespid: drones

pathfinders: jakals

sheild/gun drone: sentinals!

that's off the top of my head, i haven't got the codex handy.

not to force opinion but i have some different rules suggestions, IMPERIAL GUARD

grunts - guardsmen (the sarge has red armour)

grunts with turret - heavy weapons squad (they have green armour)

special ops grunt - special weapons team (they have black armour)

command grunts - platoon command (officer has white armour the rest have red armour)

elite commander - lord commisar (the white armour of awsomeness)

elites - storm troopers (sarge has red armour)

arbiter - sly marbo

brutes - ogryns

prophet - company commander (probably truth because he was the head one

tartarus - nork deddog (or a honour guard brute or elite?)

additional prophets - regimental advisors (like regret and mercy)

drones - penal legionaires

jakals - carapace armour vets or ratling snipers

hunters - sentinals

wraith - basilisk

ghost - rough rider

covernant drop ship - valkrie

*a banshee would be a scout sentinal but it seems un practical although the scout move through cover does give them a fast speed*

honestly the models are looking realy good and *due to my past halo fanism* i would really like to see them done by the books seeming your putting so much effort in but do remember im not demanding just helping with some *some would say nerdy* advice if you want i can also do this for the unsc army IF you want.

cheers from the merry psychosamatic

Well, I actually tend to agree with psychosamatic's view of the Covenants...
That is, they fit best (not perfectly, I agree) with the IG...

Well, what made me fall for it was the Sly Marbo / Arbiter comparison, that's really a nice one!!!

But that's your army anyway, and if you plan on adding drones to it, I bet the Vespids will do the job better than any IG trooper... Or have you seen jump infantry in the latest Codex?!?

Na, seriously, keep up the good job, your models are terrific...

And everybody love Halo so go on!!!

I had a flood idea like that once, wanted to convert all the contents of AOBR into chaos space marines and that was my brilliant plan.

If you can see it well enough, ive got tenticles poking out from under his chin but I should have put his head decaying more. My plan was:

Lash prince (hive mind) - Scratch modelled

Lash Sorcerer (infected Spartan) - Modelled from AOBR Captain.

Terminators (5) - Lightning Claws, Mark of Slaneesh (to represent their leap into battle)

Dreadnought - Lascannon (for AT, if the flood can pilot complex star ships they can sure as hell infect a dreadnought.

Plague Marines (10) - (sangheilli class flood)

Raptors (10) modelled from spare Imperial Gaurdsmens, leaps into battle like human class flood (jetpack), 3+ Sav represents their evasive actions.

If you ever plan to tour through NZ, i'd be willing to put time and money into this old' project... Lol.

Hey every one

Now its been a long time since any of us posted, we figured since the season to be jolly is long over it was time to get back to work. Plus one other thing motivated me to start. The new pritty pictures of halo: reach, i belive i might have to incorporate some things from that into this project.

So no work has been done on the pelican what so ever, because ive decided to take a step back on the project and design every thing properly and slowly, instead of quick and acurate. But i came up with these, the scorpians body has to be green stuffed to fill in the gapes and also do i have to improve on the sniper any way.

The sniper rifle looks good, but the barrel still looks pretty short when compared to the picture. Have you thought about using brass rod for the barrel? Stuff's pretty effective.

Also, how big is it compared to your "base model" for Master Chief?

well ill see once i clean it up, but the brass rodd is considerd, and the rifle is about 1mm longer than a lasgun.

Definately go with brass rod for the barrel, it works great. And don't skimp on the length!

Tank looks a good start. Is that the main body "done" or are you going to work on the shape some more? Scorpions are very angular, and from memory I can spot at least two parts on there that should slope.

yeah i still need to do the "cone" at the front and fill in gapes, but yeah its the start of the body.

Amazing, but for marines do normal Guardsmen rules and for ODSTs do Vet rules. That would be EPIC

@cosmic pixie: I was thinking that i use veterant rules for marines, because there properly trained unlike there imperial enimy's, plus marines have better armour imo so they are gonna have the grenadiers doctrine. And i thought that odst will be stormtroopers, because they have deep stricke.

Hey there every one

Now, the sniper rifle is still on the factory floor being built, but i found time to do an assault rifle (lasgun) now im thinking once its all done and cleand, that im going to make a mould of it and cast it in ressen so i dont have to green stuff 24 more cadian lasguns. any comments or critisism is more than welcome about it also please inform me of what moulding and casting involves

Also big change in plans, forge world is proving to be anyoing so im going to be using converted cadians instead of converted elisians, this means more work and patience but its worth it and it's cheaper, thanks for reading.

You might want to look into the old OOP Halo Actionclix models. The weapons are pretty compatible with 40K, and would make a perfect starting point for casting. There are only a few models in the series with assault rifles (one or two halo 3 promo master chiefs), but sniper rifles and battle rifles are more common.

Hey there everyone

A little work on my end, now ive started to detail the AR but only the left side. Also introducing my first marine shoulder pad but its still not finished as i need to add the little metal piece that goes under the shoulder pad.

The AR was an absoulute to detail and its not even done on this side, also for those of you who are more observationelle how do i fix the butt of the rifle without making it to chunky (eg. the butt is one with the rest of the rifle)

c&c is more than welcome.

ok, it's been ages since i abandoned this to go do stuff, a few months. however recent events have spurred me into motion : next weekend i shall be casting molds for the grunts and elites at cadian45th's house and even start work on the elites heads now that i know how im gonna make them. by the prophets and the great journy, i will finish this! oh, and im going to use eldar rules for the covenant now. i can fit more ghosts and grunts in that way, hell i can get more everything in.

THIS THREAD= PURE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Cadian 45th i found this website a long time ago http://nikon.bungie.org/misc/pillar_of_autumn/index.html
it may help, remember though that this army was created based on halo 1 stuff before the new codex so the chimera is a pelican. the website is a bit old but still relavent.

this is my opinon but i belive that spartan III program spartans i.e. spartans like noble team from Halo: Reach.
would make better stormtroopers than ODST

veterans= ODST (sure they cant deepstrike so you could write fluff that the warpstorm was affecting the use of ODST drop pods.)

infantry squad= standard marines

Conscripts=civilans forced to fight or volenteers (there are civies in the halo 3 level, the storm, you meet up with them after fighting the scarab, they are only armed with pistols IIRC but coyld be given other weapons aprt from engery swords and brute shots [thank you halopedia] hey its your army, you can make up whatever BS you want (not balistic skill the other BS)

you could even use penal legions as prisoners or even captured imperials forced to fight.

this is just my 2 cents. hope it helps

A link to halopedia for any inspiration http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

EDIT: hmm for some reason im not seeing the examples i uploaded oh well here is the link to them on halopedia (bottom of the page) http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Voi_Factory_Workers so i have deleted them here on dakka

Hey, quick thought on the elites heads. Have you thought about Tyranid Warrior Heads? With a little filing, and some GS, you could probably make them look pretty good.
Sick project, Guys, can't wait to see more.

Hey there every one its been a long time, and in that time i have done nothing on this project, due to my normal guardsmen army and blood angels and life in general getting in the way.

@notprop: thank you for the suggestion just i want this to look as authentic as possible and that gun will be hard in my eyes to make it authentic, but thank you any ways.

I was thinking, the covenent would fit into the daemon codex fairly well.... Bloodletters/elites with power swords, horrors/grunts, beasts of nergal/hunters, furies/those bug things, blood crushers/brutes, tzeench harolds with bolt of change/jackels, ( or you could field a Jackel model as the horror that has the bolt....) if you wanted you could also make like a couple of difrent weppons and arm them difrently for even more options, (elites with needelers/jump packs=flamers, elites with grenades/plas rifles=daemonettes, brutes with grav hammers=fiends of slaanesh, elites with two swords=seekers) and if you wanted to make the arbitor( slaaneshi Harold with transfixing gaze(enemys know and fear him), daemonic gaze(plas rifle) and unholy might) or the brute boss guy(herald of khorn with iron hide(3+ armor save cuz he was tough as all hell), and unholy might) you could do that to. Tha only real issue that I can see is the daemons lack of aircraft.... You might be able to get around that with soul grinders as wraiths, and screamers or flaimers as ghosts.

Children of filth and The cadian 45'th's project blog; the halo wars @ 2010/08/08 08:42:17

Soul grinders would be a better fit with scarbs, mostly because both are uber strong walkers.

IMHO I don't think these guys are too commited in this project lol. Which is fair enough with RL issues and what not, so I don't blame them.

However this is an epic idea which I think every single one of us Halo fans have thought of at least once in our lives lol.
