So, I started posting bits of this project on my fantasy p&m blog. But now that I'm almost done assembling the Snakebite settlement, I think it's time to start a 40K blog.

There is background info for the trukk stop in the appropriate section. This is going to be more of a terrain blog, for a while at least. I'm not planning much as for kustomizin the troops, but some of the HQ and vehicles will definitely get a personal touch.

There are three tribes that make up the trukk stop: Snakebites, Death Skulls, and Blood Axes. The Snakebites have a settlement and a diner. The Death Skulls have a towing company. The Blood Axes run a large mekshop and gas station.

Here is the general layout:

It's meant to be the last stop on the road to an active battle ground. The settlement is off the lower edge of the image (as in: not pictured).

Here is a shot of some of the buildings:

This is the first ork house I made and the smoke stacks for the mekshop.

I'm very happy with how these three buildings are coming along. I have quite a few more buildings put together already, but I haven't had a chance to get a picture of them yet.

I have the mek shop started, but I'm not as satisfied with how it's looking as I am with the settlement. I may move onto the Towing yard before continuing with the mekshop.

Let me know what you think so far. I'll have some more pics up soon.

Looking good so far. I think you should consider adding a diner.

Here are a couple shots of all the buildings I've got put together. (sorry for the poor light quality... it's late here)

Some still need glue, and plenty need wood work... at least one still needs windows and a door. There will be balconies on most of the taller buildings.

@brother_zach: Yeah, it doesn't look too orky just yet. I got some glyph plates with a trukk I picked up, and there'll be a snake motif around the outer wall, as well as in smaller details.

@Owain: The dinner's next. I've got an idea for the layout: a giant snake. Long, family style tables set up so you weave back and forth to move through the diner. Hope I can pull it off.

Seriously great, and quick aswell.

I might be the only one noticing, but wouldn't evil suns work way better as a mekshop, I mean the're the kings of speed.
Just a suggestion though.

Thanks for all the comments

@maart3n: The evil suns certainly are the kings of speed, but why, as rich as they are, would they want to settle down at this side of the road pit stop? I'm going to be adding a few biker gangs to my collection after towing company is build (maybe after the mekshop is finished too). These will be Evil suns and Goff mostly. I chose the blood axes for the mekshop because I wanted to have some non-ork "biker gangs" too. Some IG got stuck behind the enemy lines and need to gas up before making the long awl across the battle field, and I'm planning a skooter/moped (weedy bikers) kroot squad o be working for the mek... pulse rifle anyone?

@Steelmage99: How is Morkadishu coming? I loved your background for it. If you need help with making the buildings I can email you the template I'm using. It makes things go much faster, but I'm having trouble with over population. I'm running out of room on my desk, but I keep making buildings. I'm almost done... just 3 more

Thanks again for posting.

You're confusing Evil suns and Bad moons here, the bad moons are the rich and yellow ones while evil suns are the red 'ones that go fasta.

Still, it's your piece, but think about it. It would make sense to have bad moons building, and maybe just having a single go befor giving it back.

Oh yeah...

Well, besides the rich part- and the mekshop does more than vehicles. Maybe the Death Skulls will get an Evil Suns mek to fix up their tow trukks and other looted wheels.

Thanks for setting me straight as for the clans, and keep the suggestions coming.

How does an Evil Sunz gas station sound? I was going to put the Blood Axe komandos in charge of the fuel depot, but an Evil Sunz chemist might be more apt at making faster fuel... `,:~) what do you think?

Then the only clanz that aren't represented at the trukk stop are the Goff and Bad Moon clans, which would be easy to make a biker gang or some sort of convoy for.

The convoy being the Bad Moons, while the Goff roar through town on their bikes. I was thinking about making a mobile home/camper sort of battle wagon for a couple of Bad Moon boys that I have, from the 80's.

First off, great work! It's always nice to seem some cool and original terrain being made. Bad Moonz should run some kind of pawn shop/ammo dump IMO.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments. I like the Bad Moons shop, maybe they'll open a ork-emporium. The latest in big box fashion, weaponry, and vehicle upgrades. And the Evil Sunz gas station.
Thanks!

I'm almost done with the Snakebite settlement- assembling the buildings that is. I've got maybe two more buildings to cut out, besides the boss' house. Then there'll be the wood work for those and a few others.

I'll post more pictures when they're all there. I picked up some boar minis from Bitz Barn that just arrived today, so I'll have a bit of a herd going by then too... not that they'll be painted, necessarily.

Oh, yeah. And I'm looking forward to playing some skirmish games with this terrain too. Should be fun!

Ok, not much of an update. I was captivated by the urge to rearrange my room over the weekend. So my ability to take, and then put pictures on to the Internets was rather impaired.

As it stands, the dust has almost cleared...

I did start work on the Snakebite Boss' house, which turned out to be three buildings. The boss' house (his building of the three) is 6" tall and 8" long. His nobs buildings are 4" tall and 5" long. There is a large (large enough for the AoBR warboss to pass through with only the top of his bosspole teeth cut off) boar mouth. I still need to make tusks for either side of it.

I'm pretty happy with the way it's coming out. I still have a few buildings to finish assembling and at least one to cut out.

I'll have some pictures for you on Wednesday. I'll be sorting through the boyz I have to tally how many snakebites. There will be 12 deathskulls to go in the one trukk I have. Some of the boyz will get converted into kommandos to prepare for the Big Meks arrival.

Thanks for reading.

As it turns out, I'll be working tomorrow... so I probably wont get too much done on the trukk stop. :(

But just to show you I'm still hard at work, here is a shot of all the buildings that have their wood work done. It's pretty close to the final arrangement, too. Just a bit squished, so they can all fit on the surface. Also, that one build doesn't go on top of the other.

And here's a shot of the Boss' house so far. Obviously WIP, I just wanted to give you an idea of it's size. There will be a grand staircase in the back leading to a deck which overlooks the main courtyard of the settlement. I'll take some better pics when I get a chance.

Last, and probably least, my first kommando conversion:

I didn't do much to him. Bit I wanted to keep him simple. The idea is he is there to scout out the area for the mek, so I wanted him to almost fit in.

I've also divided my boyz into clans. There are ten Death Skulls (not including the trukk driver and gunner), two of which are nobs. I know you can only run one nob in a mob, so one of them is a counts as boy or the Death Skull boss for now. They got all the helmet heads (save for the nob head with the huge horns on the helmet). The other three nobs and eleven boys are Snakebites.

Let me know what you think.
Thanks for reading.

Nice, I like the megalomaniacal look of the orky palace; maybe you should add a throne on top or some kind of balcony so he can adress his underlings and shoot grots?

I would consider adding a few more possible entry points to the palace though, otherwise it will be a very restricting piece of terrain

Very nice! i like that you are so engaged in this.
Really cool project, would like to see watchtowers for the encampment,
I'm suggesting a proper battleboard later for the trukk stop to be placed on, 48x48 inches maybe? bigger would look cool too, maybe with a highway on it?

Cheers

Oh, he's getting a throne. I thought about putting it on top, but I liked the idea of a dark, dingy throne room better. Also, the thrown will e opposite the front door, so he can more easily charge through the courtyard and into battle.

The way it's shown in the first picture, it's facing away from the settlement. Here is a pic from the back of the building, which is the side that overlooks the main courtyard of the settlement.

The lower doorways will have stairs leading up to a large porch that has an additional stair case going up through the larger doorway.

His throne is going to be under the larger staircase... which sounds less than kingly, but the throne is going to be a giant snake head, using the stairs as the top of the mouth. I'm going to put some holes in the stairs too, to show how he feels about gits walking over his head.

The upstairs will be his sleeping quarters. You can barely see the top of the triangle windows on either side of the building. I am thinking about putting small platforms for his most trusted grots to fire down at gits.

I'm going to make large tusks to stand just outside the main entrance (where the boars are coming out in the previous pic). So the boss' house is requiring the most sculpting so far.

@LiveforFun666: I have a stash of Masonite boards. They're about 1'x1'. I'mm going to try and make the mek shop small enough to fit on one, but what I have for it so far looks way too small. I need to do a little more work on it before I post any pics. As it stands it just looks like and X-Files box set and a cellphone box next to each other... not much to looks at.

I don't have a lot of room, so any "table" I make will have to be small sections or tiles that fit together. I'm still figuring out the best wa to store them too, once their on the Masonite. The settlement while be two sections, at least. I'd rather it be one piece, but... as I said above, storage is very much on my mind. I also want the buildings to be removable individually, as I plan on a lot of interior detail... some might say a stupid/crazy amount of detail. But this is my creative outlet for the time, so phooey to them

As for the watch tower, the rooftops will act as such. Some of them already have defensive walls. I'll be working on the rooftops more, once I have all the buildings glued together. I'm planning on two or three more, after the boss' house, to complete the main courtyard. Then, of course, there is the boar pen to figure out. Looking at the oars running through the boss' main entrance, I like the idea of having them rush out as a first offense against incoming fighters. CC fighters, though. A bunch of boars wouldn't do much to a fire base that was 20" away.

@Frenzied Potato: Go right ahead. Let me know which ones, though... and show me pictures! I want to see where you take it.

@CommissarKhaine: Thanks for the sinister words As for the lack of ways to get in and out of the settlement, let alone the boss' house; It's meant to be an isolationist settlement. I don't really have any fluff for why they started building here. Maybe it was just a good place to find a righteous fight or some construction-centric odd boy just started building and this is what he, and his grots, made.

There are going to be a ton of grots running around this place. The boss will probably look some what like a runtherd. That is, he was a runtherd and became the boss when the rest of the tribe left to answer their wanderlust. And, to that extent, the more numerous aspect of the this Snakebite tribe will be held in reserve for gaming proposes... I think.

The settlement isn't the most powerful aspect of the trukk stop either. This is because the toughest members left to roam the surrounding area. I haven't decided what the area is going to look like yet. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know. There are boars and a freeway. That's it as far as the local terrain indicators go. So there should be a forest near by, but it might be far enough away that I won't have to make it for a table. Also, because of the boars, it shouldn't be an arid desert. But the adobe houses suggest desert, so, maybe it's like a spaghetti western: lots of sand and big patches of tough plant life. Still, though, I'm taking suggestions.

I think I'll make the Super Grots using some night goblins. Do them up like jawas... not that that hasn't been done. It just occured to me that jawas would be perfect grots for a mek.

Once I've got the woodwork on the boss' house doen, I may take a brake from terrain and focus on painting some boyz. More, a break from assembling. The Black Reach boyz are so easy that way.

How does the boss get to da fight quickly then if there's no exit?
Answer: he makes an exit. Add an ork-shaped hole in the walls

On a more serious note: the buildings look a bit like south-american dwellings (mostly found in mountainous regions). A Mesa would be a logical place to settle, and it would allow for some nasty plant- and wildlife nearby. At the rate orks deforest, a fair bit of the surroundings could be desert/barren/scorched as well, allowing for some open space to do battle.

THAT IS AMAZING!!!!!!( now i wanna make it )
so i have a couple of questions to ask....
what materials did you use to make the buildings?
how did you make the stairs?

and 2 comments

stairs could be a problem doesn't look so stable for models
and that would make an amazing city fight board

Very interesting design - it actually reminds me somewhat of the favela levels from Modern Warfare 2. I'm inspired to do something similar for the slums of an Imperial city!

Bigtoof Proppa Plannin' Komity (Now with new map) 9/17 @ 2010/01/14 02:35:09

Post by: The Good Green

They are pretty easy to make. I used foam core for the walls and balsa wood for the stairs. An easy fix for setting models on the stairs is to make an inverted staircase... with a level top. So, make a platform big enough for the model to stand on, then build the stairs, upside down, under the platform. I've seen it done for hills, as wedges.

They would work great for imperial slums, too. Just change the details a bit, like not carving off the edges.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, some models would have to treat the stairs like difficult terrain, specifically models with larger bases. The warboss, for instance, couldn't get to most of the second floors, let alone into the building, without damaging the structure or squeezing through (which is not very boss like).

I would love to see your version of the Drops.

Bigtoof Proppa Plannin' Komity (Now with new map) 9/17 @ 2010/01/14 06:51:07

Post by: The Good Green

I'm working on some concepts for the drops. One idea is to have the drops at the back entrance, with a bridge over it. So the road to the settlement, from the freeway, goes over it. That way, any guests from the trukk stop have to cross the drops to get to the settlement. That is, if they are obeying the rules of the road (which are so important in 40K ).

The big problem I have with the drops is the table surface. It's a pit of filth and fungus. If I don't have any room to dig, how am I going to make a pit? The only answer is to build up an inclined perimeter.

That's the only answer if I give in to the table surface. I could make a special "tile" for the drops that has a hole in it, with the drops hanging though. Then the risk is having the drops pop up out of the board if it gets set down wrong.

These are some of the reasons I like the bridge over the drops idea. The drops proper on one side of the bridge and a squig pen on the other, with a sewage pipe connecting the two. Though, it strikes me as improper to have the settlement's drops outside of it's confines. So, I think I will make the bridged drops to go more with the diner. On the other hand, more current descriptions of the drops seem to have it as a place most avoided, while the older fluff suggests it is more of a town square fixture.

So, I think I will have to devise a suitable solution for the drops within the settlement... How deep do you think it should be? And what are peoples opinions about where the drops would be in town, is it a prominent fixture or something out of the way? Depending on popular opinion, I might just do the bridge idea.

Thanks for all the comments.

The throne goes in the mouth. The stairs leading up to the second floor will make the roof of the mouth.

The mountainous region wins for setting. Big hills/mountains with lush forest and a deserty bit surrounding the settlement. Thanks for the tip on deforestation Khaine. The trukk stop will be in a lower area, in between mountains. The freeway, in that case, will have a few more curves than I had planned... I was thinking a straight freeway would have been odd... meh.

This way, the road to the settlement can be a bit more secluded too.

This weekend... that is, sunday and monday, I should have time to finish assembling the buildings. I'm looking forward to getting all the wood work on the boss' house. The snake head will be a test of my sculpting ability. I might try to find a toy snake that will work if I muk it up too much.

So, now you see where the throne is going, Frenzied Potato.

Just a bit of paint. I got shanghaied up to Mendocino County over the weekend, so I didn't get anything done on the hobby. Also, it wiped me out, so not much on my next day off, either. I did do a little painting, though...

The Dungers got primed and their fur has been base coated. The one got his armour base coated, but I'm not sure how to do metal. So that is, if nothing else, a note that his armour is gonna be metal painted yellow.

And here's their keeper... for now. This guy had a pet squig, then his arm fell off... after I dropped him. So now he's got the whip and grot catcher. Still, just blocking colors so far.

I blocked in a couple grots, too. They'll make it into the next post.

That's all for now. Expect more painting updates before you see any more houses. I need a brake.

Oh! I did manage to pick up a small motor-home town from Burgerking, second hand. It's going to be a buggie or a trukk for the Bad Moons... of maybe it'll turn into a foreman's office or something.

To speed up the process, might I suggest Krylon's "Make it Stone" line in Sandstone?

It's excellent textured spraypaint. You'll probably want to have your main colour ready to paint over it though - the colour of the spray is a little... crappy.

Thanks for the tip, Metallifan. That will make my job much quicker.

As for the throne, I was thinking stone originally. But since they'll be close to the jungle... jungle-ish area anyway, I think it would be awesome for it to be a snake the boss killed. That could even be why there is a settlement there: They set up dwellings because it was taking too long to eat the snake. So they build houses around it's body, where they were eating.

No prob mate. When spraying it, just be sure to give it two coats if you want a strong textured effect. For some reason the texture seems to sink a bit when it's dry, so you'll probably want to do a second coat once the first one sets so that you get a really grainy stucco look.

In terms of fluff, you could say that the Warboss and his boyz killed the snake, and then the Warboss built his house around the Snake's head to protect "Dem' big Snake teef" that are making him rich. Eventually, other clans heard about the town of "Bigtoof", and decided to settle in for a cut of the profits generated by the raiding town.

Also: The Evil Sunz need a "Toofhouse" (Aka: A very Orky Bank)

Brilliant. A town is born.

The Snakebites kill the biggest snake they have ever seen. The boss and weird boyz drinks it's venom. The boss has his boyz and grots build his house around the head ("to protect "Dem' big Snake teef"), and the rest of the boyz and runtherds and so on build around their piece of the snake. Legend of the huge teef gets out, do to the proximity of a waaagh highway, and the Deff Skull lootaz show up and put down roots, looking for their cut of da teef. Now there is an opportunity to exploit a couple of landmark films... namely Fist full of dollars, and it's Japanese counterpart. (I can't remember which one it is: Yojimbo or Sanjiro?)

Enter a Big Mek? no- Enter a kommado under the employ of the big mek. The kommando destabilizes the two factions and the big mek moves in. Maybe before, maybe after, the other clans gain a foothold in the small town of Bigtoof.

Metallifan, thank you.

ps: would it be the evil sunz or the bad moons who have a bank? which one is suppose to have more teef? bad moonz, I thought.

No prob. PM me if you want to actively work on expanding the fluff further for your town. Maybe even getting together a campaign that replays it's founding (Post snake death, obviously, as fighting with a venomous snake is a terrible idea)

ps: would it be the evil sunz or the bad moons who have a bank? which one is suppose to have more teef? bad moonz, I thought.

Dun' Matter. You could have one running "Da First Nashunal Bank of Teef" and the other running "Da' Toofhouse", and create fluff wherein the rivalry between the two bank chains has actually escalated into instances of armed combat and small skirmishes in the city as each one tries "ter' stockpile da' most teef!"

Or, you could have one controlling the bank(s) and the other could control the city's "Chamber of Kommerce", which would have to be a suitably Orky-Government looking building... Whatever an Ork Government structure would look like... Probably bigger and it might have some fancy gibbinz on it. Like statues of Gork and Mork or something

I haven't done much work on the town, but the list of assembled orks is growing. I've got two Lootas put together. One Burna, but I don't want to use the big tanks on him on account of him being a kommando. And I started working on my counts as Snikrot... He still needs a head and left arm. Also got put the mek from the Lootas box together, without the back banner. I want to use that somewhere else.

Also, I've been painting. So far, everyone that I haven't just assembled has been primed and the skin has it's base coat. The first kommando has some color on his shirt too.

I did get a little done, as far as buildings go. I make a small power plant and the beginning of a large force field generate/teleporter thing. I'll get pics up pretty soon. In the meantime, here is a pic of Bigtoof, as it stands... bird's eye view:

I was trying to figure out the next batch of buildings to do. I want to finish cutting them out, at least. I may need to redo one or two of the buildings to make the pathway more to my liking, but it's very close. Looking at it last night, I forgot about having the boar up on the roof. So, I'll have to set it up again tonight and look at it with that in mind.

I've been spending my time putting the bits from the lootaz/burnas box to use. I cut out the four walls for the Towing Company garage and the Big Mek's shop, nothing photo worthy. Also, I still don't have my camera back, so I took this pic with my phone... so I know the pic is lousy. I still wanted to through the shot up because I mentioned the power generator in my last post (I think). Anyhoo, here it is next to a KFF generator. Both still WIP, as you can see. But that's how they'll look for the most part.

er- the KFF is just the twirling bit. I still have lots of work to do on the body of the machine (not pictured).

Finally a good use for light bulb bits . I think it's definitely a great start, now all it needs is detailing!

One question though: is the bond between the light bulbs and the plastic solid enough? I've had bad experiences glueing metal to plastic without sanding it a bit first, and it would be a shame if the bits fell off after painting...

It's been a while since I posted anything on this thread. That's because I haven't done as much work on my 40K army as on my Night Goblin army. Also, less time to work on either.

I did started working on my Big Mek's Battle Wagon, though. I had a chance to pick up some sheet styrene, or plasticard as some might know it. Anyhow, I also happened to find (after hours and hours of searching) an excellent paper cut out diagram for a toy DAF truck. I promptly downloaded it and re-sized it to scale, and this is what I got... so far:

There's another image of the front in my gallery. Also, that is the trukk driver in there. I'll be building the inside like a fool... with tweezers. I already glued all the sides together. If I get really frustrated I can just rip the back off. I'm pretty excited about how it's coming out, but I'm having trouble thinking of details for the sides. I want to cut some doors out, I guess I'll start there. Unfortunately, I'm not sure when my next chance will come. :(

I've done a bit more work on the cab. Styrene sheets are a lot of fun, you can do so much with it.

Anyhoo, here's some pics:

The door on the side opens, but it's the only one. And there is a windshield that will me glued in after painting.

Here's a shot with the roof on. The hatch doesn't open, much to my chagrin. That hinge was working before I put all that glue on it!

And here is the first pic of Wortgob Gutznik, the biggest mek in Bigtoof.

He's an AoBR nob, with a hair cut. This is just the beginning for him! He'll be getting a rokkit-kombi weapon, but I need some more bits first. I'm gonna give him some facial hair too.

Love to see some Orky terrain. I'd suggest really cramming them with tons detail and odd plates of orky armor. Makes the painting easier too. few washes and a brush and you have great looking orky town.

I think I've finished the plasticard detail work in the cab. I might add something over the windshield, but I'm not sure. Then there's wiring and tools and scrap for the shelves and floor. I don't think I'll add armour plating for a while, we'll see.

Anyhow, some pics >

This is a shot of all the detail work, more or less.

A grot working on the stick shift. Ah- something else I have to finish. I'm waiting to do this until I've got the driver in. So I can figure out where the stick should end.

Here's the rear of the cab, now with surround sound! Please notice the CB radio.

And here's a view of the cockpit. Above the wind shield looks too bare to me, but I can't think of what to put up there. Any suggestions?

Thanks for checking it out. All comments and criticism are welcome.

how about an open cabinet full of beer (I say a cabinet because Orks likely wouldn't care if it were warm)

He could have some "Orkanee" (Kokanee), Mork Genuine Draft (Guess ) Grotweiser (ditto), Gorknness (Guinness), and whatever other Orky ripoffs of beer brands you can come up with

The shotgun is definitely in. Died center over the wind shield. I like the jump cables, but I'm not sure I can pull it off. I'll give it a try. Tools are already planned. The shotgun is going to be fun to make.

I like the fuzzy dice, but there's no rear window for a rear view mirror to see through. I have been thinking about a driver-side mirror. I'll see how the dice look hanging off the side, could be funny.

Fungus beer it is. I think there's just enough room for a cabinet by the door, behind the drivers seat. Which gives me an idea: automated "Beer me" arm for the driver, reaching over his back.

There'll be ammo boxes and tool boxes and pipe stashes and other personal touches. I'm thinking about a hook or two to hang... I guess the jumper cables and similar, maybe a fuel backpack. Some power sells here and there. I think winch cables will be on the back of the cab (the outside).

Yeah, after the CommissarKhaine mentioned the play-orc. But I think a portrait of Gork and Mork, or Gorkamorka would fit better for the meks. Gorkamorka, because I'm toying with the meks backstory so that he is from Gorkamorka. It won't play too heavily into the models, more of a subtle accent. It adds a little to the background.
Also, Play-orc doesn't really make sense to me. THey reproduce through spores, like fungus. Even in the original fluff, all orks developed a marsupial like pouch to produce offspring. This is after they go feral, and they don't seem to require a mate.
So what would ork porn look like? A big fight? Lots of fungus? Human porn, for the truly depraved ork, maybe?

I wouldn't do it on transfer paper at any rate. Usually the edges of the sheet are so visible, it ruins the effect for me. I'm also thinking Da Boss would be shouting at them through the surround sound speakers. That's all they need as far as motivation, but a good battle poster would be fun too, for those long hauls.

I got some painting done on the dynamic duo:

Still very wip. I need to do all of the detail work still and some major spots as well. Most notable: Roborks loin cloth.

Batorks trophies:

I'm thinking of painting a red hand print on the skull so I can use them as Snake Bite kommandos if I want. New recruits from the locals, or a stolen trophy, taken from the red skull kommandos and flaunted in their face.

Anyhow, here's a shot of the trukk cab. I built a CB for the drive and a shelf for the shotgun. Still need to do the wiring, but I'm waiting to the last second to do that part.

And here's the beer cabinet:

I need to pick up some larger styrene pipes to make the beer.

All that's left is tools and litter, and the wiring and it's ready for paint... I think. Oh! A side view mirror. Hm... I'm gonna say, same as the beer. I need to get more plastic.

Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Any idea's where I can get them? (ordering online)

Unfortunately i don't know! I think i got mine as part of a 1/35th British Centaur by Tamiya,
however, it could have been from any of my military model kits. You might have some luck looking
for a kitchen accessories set or something of the sort.

I'll have a search anyway...

Vlad

edit: Right, my bottles have come from either a Tamiya Centaur or a Churchill, however, i have found
a Korean company, Neo Models (or Neo Grade), that makes coloured/clear resin bottles and boxes at
1/35th scale. Also Verlinden Productions (probably much easier to get hold of) make a bottles etc kit in
1/35th too.
Failing that have a quick look at some kitchen accessories sets.

Hope you get what you're looking for.

Wow, thanks you two! Those sites have a lot of good bits kits... etched metal for most of them too.

I wanted to show you my bigmek's kombi-rokkit launcha I worked up last night. I don't have a rokkit yet. None on the koptas really looked right... but it's got the blast plate already- still blutaked on.

Obviously Tau inspired. I need too find a couple small screws of the right sort to fill in the ball. I'm looking for a good sight for it, too. I'll probably use some tank or Tau suit "camera" bit. I might try to make something for it, too... if I can't find the right bit.

It never ceases to amaze me what one can do with plasticard! How did you do the grooves? Is it one piece, with the grooves cut out, or multiple pieces stuck together leaving a gap for the grooves? (This was how I did my land speeder pattern wings on my Deffkopta...)

Bigtoof Proppa Plannin' Komity (Now with new map) 9/17 @ 2010/03/04 18:25:43

Post by: The Good Green

It's three layers of plasticard. I cut the basic shape I wanted, then I cut out the panels and left room for grooves.

Plasticard is such an amazing material! When I get some more sheets I'm gonna try making small switches. We shall see how many I successfully glue to my fingers.

Oh, and the round part was kinda tough. I used a round file to make it, but lining it up was tricky. In the end, I had to carve it out a bit with a knife.

If you're going to give the trucker sunglasses then you should go all out and give him a baseball hat, or maybe a cowboy hat. The combo of the glasses and those hats just scream trucker in my opinion.

Excellent! The driver will get a baseball cap and sun glasses. Another trukker ork on the Bigmeks payroll will get a cowboy hat, and aviators. Maybe tucked in a shirt pocket.
It'll be fun making a bunch of trucker orks. I'm going to get to work on some green stuff that I've been putting off. It's mostly cultist gap-filling for my night goblin army, but I'll work on these details too. should be fun!

I'm loving this blog!

Wortgob Gutznik looks really good , the DCCW on his arm makes him look a bit like Barret from FF7!

Consider your idea stolen, good sir..
And now I'm bummed that I've traded off all my AOBR marines, guess I just have to get a fourth box...

Maybe the truck cab could have a hammock hanging near the ceiling at the rear of the cab? I don't know if truckers use those nowadays (or have ever used, for that matter) but I've seen hammocks in old KrAZ trucks. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KrAZ )

Anyway, thanks for a great blog, I'm really enjoying reading it

Thanks, Karl.

@Niilo: Thanks. I was thinking about a hammock. I might have one hanging in the corner. Have it on one hook with another across the cab to stretch it to. I think it will have to wait for the next cab, tho (like the sun visors).

I'm trying to make the most out of the AOBR marines. There is more to work with than I can see yet. The DCCW showed me that. I didn't think it would work originally. about a month or two later I finally noticed, if I just cut of more of his arm...

I'm working on a marine shoulder-pad mega-armoured grot that will probably get some more marine parts before he's done. I'll post some pics once he's got feet.

As a sidebar for this unit: I'm thinking of doing a pigeon color scheme for the kroots. Grey skin (some black some brown, and a rare white one or two) with black claws (pink for the white ones) and purple and green shimmery business for their plume.

*edit* just found the brand for the mopeds: Jawa. It's a company from the 70's, not sure how long they were around or if they still are. Here is a list of pics of mopeds with a (very) little info on each one.

I picked up a catachan command box and some old goblin wolf riders and got to work on some super grots. At first, I didn't think the catachan arms looked right. Part of it, I think, is that the arm with a knife just looks weird. I like how the arms work with them on the others. Shows the selective breeding.

As a sidebar for this unit: I'm thinking of doing a pigeon color scheme for the kroots. Grey skin (some black some brown, and a rare white one or two) with black claws (pink for the white ones) and purple and green shimmery business for their plume.

Noooo, keep the kroot on the ork bike, it looks awesome!! So cool actually, that an entire army of Kroots using Ork technology and being run as an Ork lists sounds like a lot of fun...I might have to think on that.

I really like your idea for the kroot color scheme, I'd almost recommend adding a little bit of plummage around the claws to really add to that effect. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do!

@Accolade: He does look pretty sweet on that bike. Maybe he can be the "Shaper" or "Sargent" or whatever. Thanks for the positive feedback, I'm glad you like the idea. I'd love to see an Kroot/Ork army! Plumage on the fingers might be too much for me. I like where you're your mind is at though.

@TaintedMess: Yeah, I'm looking forward to playing a lot of smaller games in Bigtoof. There's a lot of work to be done on it still, tho. I think I'm ready to start up on it again, a few more buildings to make and some rearranging to do. I've got plans for a lot of interior details too, which wont be visible in larger games, or even some of the smaller ones... it's just eye candy for me

@Vlad-X7: I agree, it is very surprising! The blutak helps a bit, though. I'll need to GS a neck and bulk up the goblin's waist so the torse fits better. That shouldn't be so hard, though. I will try to get one finished asap to take charge of the raggedy crew. I've stalled on the Trukk, too. Since the bits came in, I've been working on the special unit conversions more. But I have a driver for it now, so I can finis the gear shift. Then it's some wiring for the sound system and beer cans/bottles.

One of these days, I'll have more than 10 minutes of undisturbed time to work... one of these days... one of...

imawakeimawake!

Pigeon kroot.. gotta love'em . I like the way he fits on the bike, it has a very 'manga' feel to me in good way. Keep him on there!

And as a grot revolution player, I just have to like the super grots! Yoy're rigt about the catachan arm though: the knife doesn't look right. Best I've come up with is reversing the knife, like he's holding it in a more defensive stance. Heck, a lot of knife-fighting techniques ave you reverse the knife, so it would look a tad more realistic too IMO.

I put together the first three Super Grots, just need to gear them up. I also got started on an Infantry Platoon Commissar and a Priest... a heavy flamer too. Here are the pics!

The hecklers. These two can't stay out of a fight, even if it's on the other side of a lake:

Here's a tough guy, taking on more than he can chew:

Here is the first infantry Commisar. There will be four to act as Lord Commissar Naflug's klaws:

Here is the priest I'm basing off one of the GW priests. I've got a book nit somewhere around here for the top of his staff:

I still have to glue and GS this guy:

And here's the first Sniper/Spotter team

Yeah, I'm kinda disappointed by the old night goblin set. The waist is horrible. Otherwise, it's ok, lots of good bits!

On he sniper I still need to add a sight and connect the stock to butt of the gun. I like the Kroot rifles a lot too. They lend themselves to the sniper look... after you cut off the blades at least.

I like the mushrooms that came with that old set . Also, the archer hands make great shaman hands, if you ever intend to do a PBS, those might be of help!

As for the sniper: not to mention fixing up his face

Will the commissar be getting a cap or some kind of beret?

The mushrooms and hands are some of the bits I was talking about... there's the quivers, arrows, and shield icons. Not to mention the standard bearer and musician sprue! (now, to mention it ) It's the same sprue for Skaven, Goblin and Skeleton command. I was so surprised, and pleased.

The snipers face isn't that bad... is it? No, it's not really. The stock will cover a lot of it, being such a small space it shouldn't be hard. Plus, I hope to fix a lot of it with paint.

Sharply peeked cap for the commissar. This one anyway. I'm going to make four super grot commissars and one runtmaster commissar. I'm kind of excited about the commissars. They are the newest addition to the team. When I saw that goblin head it screamed COMMISSAR to me, so I started looking for a good commissar body for him. I didn't find the right legs, so green stuff. Then, while I was writing a first draft for Wortgob's IG style "staff directory", toward the end, it struck me as very orky that a nob runtherder would send his best grots, most loyal, fiercest, out to make sure all his under bosses were keeping up his standard.

Part of it is that the runtherds in this list are followers of Naflug the runtmaster. He's a legend...

Back to the commissars, tho- I want them to be rather individualistic in style, fashion and the like but with the same color scheme. Their personal hierarchy will be highly visible too... somehow. And "Naflug" (not actually Naflug but a self appointed Runtmaster of the same teaching) will be at the top of that chain, even Wortgob has to keep an eye on him.

I like him too, Karl. I have hunch he's gonna be a glory hog. Frankly, I think all of these grots, save the sniper team, are gonna be in command squads. Nevermind how much I like them, their gear is all the command gear... except the one with the grenade. He's just that cool. Call you out, then throw a grenade past you so you'd be blasted at him. Then he'd beat the tar outta ya with his bear hands!

The sniper face isn't bad at all, The Good Green, it's just that it might look awkward unless the stock totally fills up the gap.

As for the commissars, peaked caps ftw! I really like the idea of grot commissars (as you can tell from my blog ), so keep up the good work!

Thanks. I'm waiting on some cadian command torsos to finish up the rest of them. I'm thinking about using the massive, old Runtherd Boss model... I can't remember his name, but it's a character model I think. Here's a pic,

He's all primed and waiting for paint.

He's not very commissar looking though, but very snakebite. SO I'm ust thinking about using him. That was the plan before Naflug's Claws.

The super grot on the right looks so green he appears a bit irradiated! Perhaps that's why he's a super grot!

I'm trying to manage a few different colors for skin. The one in the middle is my favorite too. The one on the left has been trouble, so unless I can make it work with some high lights that one isn't happening. I think the one on the right probably needs a darker wash, but just a bit to get those details to pop a little more. I'm still experimenting with the colors I have. I'm trying to do what they guy did in this video. (It is a bit of a sales pitch, but not too bad)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpmZHUmzWCA

I'm base painting them white so they look lighter than the orks. The ork yoofs will be white under coated too, and some of the 'arder grots (like the grot commissars) will be black.

I started GSing the first Grot Commissar last night. He's coming along well enough. I also had the wonderfull opportunity to pick up a commissar looking ork with a power axe. So, Zodgrod is out as commissar, but he will still get a special place in Bigtoof.

...I do need to get back to work on those leaky toxic ooze drums. I'm almost ready to start working on the village again...

*edit 3/29/10* ARRGH! I'm trapped in a time suck and it won't let me waste my time like I want too!

I know. It's really tempting, but I already have two armies in the making. I think they will end up with an armies worth of them, but that wont be for quite some time. Many of them will be more non-combatant looking: Scrounging for scrap metal and teef, foraging for bits of food, tinkering on their own inventions or different projects for the Mek.

I managed a little more work on some new super grots, but no pics yet... sorry. Hopefully I will be able to manage a more meaningful update tomorrow.

Until then, thanks for the posts, and the middle guy seems to be a favorite so far (I like him the best too).

First off, here is a grot from Bigtoof. A snakebite git tending his crops:

Another sniper for the team, that makes two shooters and one spotter:

Here's a super grot that spends his time dodging bullets and collecting scrap. The bomb will be replaced with something... else.

Here's a grot from the front lines. His buddies are getting a bit too close with their muzzle flare:

Here is a platoon commander and his guard. They've got torsos from the cadian command sprue. I'm sorry the pic is a bit fuzzy.

And here is the counts-as Astropath. They act as the Towing Company's dispatch... the little one is from the deathskullz, the guy carrying the radio is a super grot, put in charge of keeping up with the unit.

What do you think?

@w0chtulka:
I'm going with ratlings too. A much better choice, and their selective breeding would certainly explain a specialized unit like that.

@insaniak:
Thanks. Hope I can keep it up

@corpsesarefun:
The goblin parts are all from the Wolf Riders set, except for the Snakebite grot, whose body is night goblin. Then there are a few torsos from the Empire Militia set and cadian command. Otherwise, I think it's all catachan (command and infantry bits). I think I need to pick up a goblin regiment set for the additional legs and heads. THose are the parts I'm having trouble finding online.

*edit* Oh-and there is one grot with a tau fire warrior body. I think that will be the special weapons team... tau bodied grots.

None yet, but I am revving up for it. I've got my supplies for the grots organized so it's left to assembly and collecting the rest of the bits needed. Otherwise, I will be working on Bigtoof. I'm going to start work on the Mekshop too, but it is still in the sketch stage at the moment.
I picked up a bunch of back branches from the Wood Elf tree creatures set. They will make great bits for the gardening grots. I want to do one like the fungus ants in the rain forest: Climbing to the tallest place and dieing, leaving a translucent shell, like a snakes cast off skin, for mushrooms to grow out of.

ps I have almost enough torsos for a small IG force body count.

Looking good; I like how every base is effectively a scenic base. You should make sure they all fit together into a bigger diorama.
For the helmets, have you considered removing the fur rim of the helmet? You could gs them into the german-style WWI or WWII helmets, or turn them into berets.

Hey, does anyone have a tip on heavy artillery-
What Tau or IG heavy support is best for popping vehicles?
I'm not looking for melta guns though. The idea is Gutsnik is looking for parts... looking inside "your" tank. He doesn't want it melted, he wants it meltable... it's easier, imo, to load a cart with bits and pieces of a tank than a giant pool of melted metal.

Bigtoof Proppa Plannin' Komity (Now with new map) 9/17 @ 2010/04/07 19:10:46

Post by: CommissarKhaine

For popping tanks, the manticore is often overlooked; D3 S10 shots are pretty good, AP4 isn't AP1, but hey, if you want those go play tau, or get a medusa with bastion breakers . I prefer the manticore over the medusa because 1) D3 shots mean more chances to hit, and 2) it's useful vs a lot of targets, where the medusa with the single small blast is only good vs tanks or deepstriking termies.

I've used a manticore in a few tourneys, and I like it, mainly because it's always useful vs something, and S10 means good chances for ID or penetrating even AV14 since it's ordnance.

Nice, I'll have the grots get to work attatching one of those to the back of the Semi (BW)!

AP1 in the Tau arsenal, eh? I'll look into that as well.

Nonsense. Make the Semi an Orky SCUD Launcher and use it as a Deathstrike!

There are no leftovers with a Deathstrike no... Not that you -need- any when that one shot is enough to wipe out a huge chunk of an enemy's army. Manticore only gets 4 shots anyway... Fine, an MLRS Truck then

That's the beauty of it. You could make 2 inserts for the launcher housing - one that holds one BIG missile for the Deathstrike, and one that holds 4 smaller (Though still quite large) missiles for a Manticore. Then you can just swap them depending on what you want to field

I've started working on Bigtoof again I've got a few more buildings glued together but I still need to cut out the windows and doors, not to mention the wood work. So, no pictures yet, but soon!

Also, I do want to make use of the trailer hitch on the Trukk chassis. So my plan is to make a few different BW configurations for it. I think the MLRS is going to be one of them for sure.

How about adding a Railgun attachment for it as well, and using it as a proxy for one of the million or so arty platforms in the IG 'Dex.

How can you not want to unleash this on your enemies?

Sorry for the huge pic but, I mean, COME ON! You can actually -see- the round pushing through the sound barrier

There will definitely be one rail gun, at least. I'll probably make a few, in different sizes. It's a fluffy weapon too, as Gutsnik lost his warboss in a battle with the Tau. That's also where he "hired" a group of kroot. So, I'm thinking they snatched a Broadside suit off the field.

So, I should have enough time to get the new buildings picture worth in the next two days. Wish me luck.

Some WIP pics of Bigtoof, as promised:

So, it's got it's shape now. I still have a few doors and windows to cut out, and MAYBE one or two more buildings to close the gap between the tow and the boss' house... more buildings or a boar pen, or something... probably more buildings.

@sugna the repairible: Thanks. Glad to see you weren't disappointing on returning.

I can't help but look at this and think Necromunda (Ork style, anyway). Just missing the walkways between rooftops!

Goodf point Arakasi! That's a lot of buildings, The Good Green, it's looking very promising. Is that a totem pole we see lying down?

@ Arakasi: Necromunda, Gorkamorka, =][=. I very much like the character driven games. I'm looking forward to finding a store or club that can host the table when it's done.

@CommissarKhaine: That's not a totem poll, but I do plan on one. A job poll too. and several drops varying in size.

@Orange: I got them form an old ork 'dex. If you want a copy, pm me.

And thank you all for commenting.

All the Inquisitor blogs have me more excited to work on a smaller group... team of minis.

It'll have to wait a while, but it's something I guess I can start thinking about.

Post by: The Good Green

oh there will be a bar. The building with the blutac goblin on the roof (sort of on the right in the first pic) will be the bar. I was trying to figure out what that would be. I was thinking a store room, but it would have their fungal wears in it too. The alley behind it will be fenced in at the end and used as extra storage and brewing facilities.

I'll probably make a larger bar after the Towing yard is done, maybe after the mekshop too.

This is true. I want the township of Bigtoof to look like a fortress, except that the walls are made by the individually constructed homes. Kinda like Shibam, Yemen. Only, not as tall.

There are a few alleys that lead in and out of the settlement, but the real viable way to get around will be the rooftops. Also, almost all of the roofs are removable, so everyone can take up strategic or concealed positions. There is also the grand entrance of the Boss' house, and a gated entrance at the opposite end.

I do anticipate ridiculous "alleys of death" fire fights where nobody can move forward and live. Of course, the Snakebite tribe that built the town didn't have that in mind when they made it. They were just building around a snake carcass that they were eating.

I'm getting more and more excited about this project as it progresses, which is not something I can say about everything I've worked on. Although, I really don't have enough room for this as a finished board... soooooo, it's building in pieces until trying to find a club or store that can host a dedicated ork board.

Also, the Snakebite tribe has dwindled as Bigtoof has grown, so it could very reasonably become a gorkamorka board. The freeway that runs past the Turkk stop will, of course, provide an in for non-ork warbands/armies (fresh from a battle or on search of new/more resources) After the buildings are all cut out and glued together, I think I'll delve into the backstory much more. So keep yer eyes pealed for that thread!

Cheers, and thanks for the comments.

*edit* I am afraid to say... I think I know what my next project will be (if I don't burn out on Bigtoof). After reading the latest posts on Pfreck's "Xeno Hybris" blog, I think I am going to have to make a small Exodite colony. A long ways off, but I am going to have to fight the urges to get too deep into it before Bigtoof is done. Maybe it will becom one big planetary board, where the Exodites have colonized an ork planet. Good grief! I can't think about it, but I can't stop either!

Green, do you have a backyard where you are? If you do, why not just buy one of those gazebo-tents that Wal-Mart sells for like $100 and keep a game table in there? The things are pretty freaking big - I think you can fit about 20 or so people in one and still have room to move around. Would be great for the summer. Hmmm... Maybe -I'll- be doing that...

Post by: The Good Green

Yeah, I would definitely would... but I don't have a yard at all. :(
That does sound like a very good idea for the summer.

*edit* UGH! I can't believe this. I have been captivated by the Eldar. More specifically the Exodites and Harlequin.

...more to come: A Solitaires in the process of recruiting a new Harlequin Troupe from an Exodite colony (an eldar warband for munda style gaming in Bigtoof)

*note to self*
Water collection / animal pen on roofs of Bigtoof. (animal pens as previously mentioned)

^And Billboards^

Maybe you could mount it on a board that's cut to shape after you finish the truck shop? It would kinda remove the rearrangability (If that's a word ), but it might save some space

As such.

And hey, if all else fails, you could do some medium density, middle eastern style apartments - 5 or 6 floors would add a lot of vertical board space

Ok, now that I've got my head rapped around building an =][=munda list you can expect to see more modeling reflecting it. I'll be cutting out the last two buildings for Bigtoof tonight, then it's off to cutting the doors and windows out and doing the woodwork. The biggest portion of which will be the Boss' deck.

Also, as I focus on the minis (as apposed to the terrain) from time to time, you can expect to see a munda Exodite/Harlequin band developing soon. Bigtoof is going global...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok, so I got one building almost ready for wood.

First I just want to say, these are quick pics. Sorry for the poor quality. ;P

Second, this building is going right nest to the Boss's house and will function as a boar pen (the main building) and Pig Doc Shack (the longer room in the back). Also, it will be a good place to keep prisoners (aka boar food). I just realized, you can't tell from the pics but the square room in the middle is really just a hole from the room down to the ground floor. I figure gits and grots alike will get pushed over the edge and into the boar pit below.

I still need to cut out a roof for the Operatin' room, not to mention a door... It will be integrated into the Boss' deck, so boars can be let out of the doorway on the bottom floor so they run out into the court yard below the deck. Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading.

Bump

The last two buildings are cut out and in place. The Prison/Boar Pit/Pigdoc's operating room is just waiting for wood like the rest of Bigtoof, but the other building still doesn't have any windows or doors. The smaller building next to it is going to be a stairwell with an "emergency exit" under the bottom of the stairs, leading to the exterior of Bigtoof Propa.

And here is another shot of the super grots that have scenic bases already. There is one more than last time.

I am really excited now. All of Bigtoof Propa is standing! and most of it is glued together. There is a minimum of windows and doors to cut out then it's on to the Boss' deck and stairs for the whole town. The newest building, the one still without doors, will be a three store boyz house, for Da Boss' lads. Like I wrote above, the smaller building attached to it will be a stair case, letting out into the main courtyard. There'll be a door under the first flight of stairs that leads to outside Bigtoof Propa.

Feels good to be done........................... with the first stage of one piece of the prodject...

But, hey, now I can start cutting out and gluing the Towing yard together while I figure out how to base Bigtoof....

No, I mean... it does feel good to have all the buildings standing together. I'll finish cutting the doors and windows out tongith and set it up on my floor for some pre-wood work pics.

...aaaaand I think I'm done cutting out doors and windows, too. So it's almost time for spackle! and all the details: I've got plant bits from catachin, wood elf, and nid sets; and chain bits from chaos sets to hang around the perimeter of Bigtoof.

Thanks for the kind words. I am going to be too busy for the next week or so to do much of anything with Bigtoof. I have arranged my desk to start on the wood work, though, so I'll be able to get into it right away when the time comes.

I'm also working on a scenario for Bigtoof and the planet I've decided to set it on: 88 Tanstar. Eldar, IG and the =][= are involved, as well as a band of Kroot and the Tyrant Star prophesy! (the orks go without saying, I hope)

Well, until next time-

You do realize that this means one of your friends will have to dress up in it and play the role of some sort of Ork "Uba' Stompa" for an Apocalypse game

Although it might get a little wierd if you tell him to stand still while you place your units on him...

Quick update about the Exodites: I'm gonna be using Infinity Games models... most likely.

Also, not a full Dreadnought, just the claw. It's gonna be a costume of Wortgob Gutsnik. I'll post a concept sketch later if you want. His head is gonna be on my chest, while my head acts as a wyrd grot on his shoulders. I've got the PK, his head and a chain-axe to make. The grot bit should be the easiest part.

Modeling note: something for me to look thru and think about, also feel free to say if you like some better for the role. (please do, in fact)

A note on the Solitaire (taken from an expirimental Harlequin 'dex):
Little is known about the Solitaires, even amongst the Eldar. They have passed the sacred Ritual which all Harlequins must undertake, yet they live apart from other Harlequins. The Solitaires roam the Webway seeking out Eldar they believe can survive the Ritual, and take them to the Harlequin bands. It is said that the oldest and most powerful Solitaires become the dreaded guardians of the Black Library. On the extremely rare occasions when a Solitaire performs, he or she takes the part of Slaanesh and the Harlequin band will perform the legendary tale of the Birth of the Great Enemy – the most dangerous of all Harlequin masques. It is claimed that others have tried to take on the role of the Great Enemy and died or been driven insane!

Nah, it's just fer kicks. These projects come out of my head compulsively, so I make sure they are at least fun to work on, if not fun to have later, too.
Concept sketch:

So the grot is my head, and Gutsnik's head is just hanging off my chest.

I've almost got the hand to the same level as the wrist, so I'll throw a pic up on this post when I'm done with the fingers.

The hull of the Dread-Klaw is together. I'm just figuring the final measurements for the wrist joint. I think I'll need a bit more PVC pipe. Then it's time to save up for the PVC sheets. I'll try to find some in town before I buy them online.

Anyhoo- here's a couple pics:

Here's one to give ou an idea of the size of this thing:

I'm gonna rig marionette style controls for the wrist and finger articulation (rods and ropes). After the joint is finished I'll start adding gubbinz, worky bits and hoses attaching to my arm and the like.

What do you think?

I gotta do some redesign work on Gutsnik's rail gun shoota. Right now it could pass for the Grav-gun from =][=, but it's supposed to be a Tau rail gun... even though I based it on the pulse carbine. ;P
So, here's some reference for me:

This is my hobby until the room is painted and rearranged. This is what it's been while i've been building the Dread-Klaw. That and to use up my cardboard stash is why I started the Dread-Klaw. I've got all the PVC I need to finish now, just waiting for the opportunity.

In other news, my room is almost settled, so I can start hobby-ing again as soon as my mother-in-law leaves! (well, not quite "in law"... common law maybe). Needless to say, I'm looking forward to it and I think I will have more room to work now! So, I'm very happy with how it's going.

So, I just picked up the Hellcannon of Chaos, with chaos dwarves! It was the only model at the store that I had a soft spot for and couldn't get later, most likely. So I'm gonna use it to start thinking about what the Tyrant Star is going to manifest as, letting the models lead the fluff and vise versa...

Plans have began for a Traitor Guard/Chaos force to build and defend an interplanetary cannon platform on 88 Tanstar. The force will be lead by Minions of Tzeentch, and will feature a Keeper of Secrets, and Epidemius to deal with the Eldar and Ork contingents respectively. They will have a few minions of their own as well as the guard and a hand full of marines.

I'm thinking a highly ornate mechanized IG force that has been tainted by Tzeentch mostly, with a smaller platoon dedicated to Nurgle. Slannesh may have to bring his (his?) own friends to play with, but there will definitely be enough to challenge the Eldar Fellowship. Although the Exodites may muster more of a force to participate in the final battle.

Like I said, this is getting out of hand. If anyone wants to help in the construction of this scenario and the models involved PM me.

I was thinking about having the Tyrant Star be more about the Tyranid or Necron, but this sort of fell into place. I think, if anyone wanted to bring one of them in it would be an easy plot point to through in:
The forces of Chaos join together to destroy the Tyrant Star as it reappears in the Threnos Zone. If they were to fail droves of Necron would rise from their slumber on all thirteen worlds and sweep across the universe unabated, there by wiping out all life and the energy from which Chaos draws it's power. OR if Chaos fails, the alignment in the Threnos Zone opens a temporal rift in space, throw which the biggest Tyranid fleet the known universe has ever seen passes from speculation to reality.

But I still have so much Ork hobbying to do and so little time. So, if anyone is interested in taking up a part of this thing, I'd be glad to talk to you. Like I said above, PM me.

Pics of some grot terrain to follow.

So, this is still very WIP, but I think it will come together quickly as I'm not going to do the inside. I've done the inside in my head though, so I have an idea about what all the rooms are for. This means I have to try to make it clear from the outside which room is for what... for my own satisfaction, of course. Without further to do, here is the very WIP Grot Grub Shakk:

THat's the main entrance in the middle. I have yet to make the door. To the right is the dinning hall. To the left is the kitchen, and behind that is the squig shakk, where they prepare the squig meat and tend to the squigs.

Here you can see the two drops behind the Grub Shakk. One draining from the dinning hall and the other from the squig shakk. There will be a fence up around the squig shakk drop to keep the squigs in. The shorter building in the middle if the fungus cellar, where they work on their secret mushroom medley.

Like I said above, I'll be adding a fence in the back (for the squigs). I'll also be adding some windows in the dinning hall, and a turret over the kitchen. There will be plenty of chimney pipes and brewing/water/gas tanks on the roof and around the grounds. I'm gonna make a latter to prop up on the hill behind the mushroom cellar.

It's a piece for the Mekshop grounds. Gutsnik's grots only! I've got the barracks to glue down as well. And I am finding a bit more time to work on the little guys, so: yay!

I agree, painting is highly overrated!

The Grubb shack seems off to a goot start. Is the plastic you used solid enough? It looks like the stuff they pack cookies in, and I'm not sure that'll stand up to careless gamers...

It is the plastic they pack cookies in, and it won't stand up to clumsy gamers, but I'm not too worried. It's a grot's life after all.

I throw a bit more together on the Shakk as well as starting the other half of Grot Alley, which will sit next to the Mekshop. I didn't get much done on the second installment of the Alley, though so I'm holding off pics until then. BUT! here are some pics of the Squig Pen and the watch tower over the kitchen.

The red blob is a squig, sorry for the poor quality pics.

I should have some more time next week to get a substantial amount done. Now that I have more room, I am going to finish up the wood work for Bigtoof Propa, and start on texturing the whole thing. I'm gonna try to get some GS work done on the Night Goblins too, but we'll see. The GS work always seems to take the longest.

Sorry about the nagging paint question. I like to ask people about their painting to try and motivate them, I need plenty of it myself. At least you are posting so keep up the good work. I wish my imagination enabled me to come up with ideas like you! Paint or no it still looks cool!

@ CommissarKhaine:
A BUNCH of chimneys! I do plan on building the walls up a little, here and there at least. But I'm not putting too much effort into these. I think the fence was the most labor intensive part of it so far. I mean, just the fence, too. The posts were a piece of cake.
Also, I look at these falling apart as an opportunity to rebuild. After all, the hovel-scape of an ork town changes regularly.

@Stretch:
Don't worry about asking for paint. I do it sometimes too. It is good for motivation sometimes, or for some people...

I am anxious to get some things painted, but it takes more time for me to set that up, and with the way my life has been going I'd have time enough to set it up before the next thing to do comes up.

I did have a water pot ready to go for a while. That's why I have anything painted. But since I've rearranged, I haven't had enough time in to figure out how to set that up again. I'm working on a solution already, but I'm not sure it will stand up to water. We shall see...

So, I got a little more work done on the grot buildings and I started a house to put a bill board on for the mekshop. Here are some pics:

A couple of fun shots:

Let me know what you thing of the buildings. Suggestions for more stuff to add are welcome. That one building is gonna have an observatory, the lens is there but it still needs a lot of work. The clear building, I got the idea to do this building with a billboard and two level deck. It still needs plenty of work, but one of the key things is a roof hatch under the tall "deck" and a stair case leading up to it. The back side of the tall section will be the face of the billboard. Lots of pipes and chimneys and railings.

Thanks for taking a look, sorry it's been so long.

Touche! I was just thinking they were detracting from the overall awesomeness by only being half painted. Unpainted or fully painted would have looked better. But then, this is simply a WIP, and pics without the grotz wouldn't give as good a feel for the final feel - so I'll just be quiet now

Love that ork building stuff - glad to see it has plenty of debris. Need more squigs and some nice squishy mud for that pen though. Maybe some fungus too - so you have the whole orkish food chain in place.

I definitely agree with you, Arakasi. The mix of metal, primed, and half (or less) painted models detracts from the image. If they were all at the same level, it would look better.

I've been meaning to pick up some Simple Green to give some of them a good bath, maybe all throw them all in when I'm ready to actually start painting.

@kestral: I haven't gotten to that stage yet, but there will be fungus all over these buildings. I recently acquired a bitzbox of Snotling Pump Wagons to add to the mix. There are sum great mushrooms on the wagons! I'm looking forward to finishing these buildings off. I'm almost done adding random debris, then it's fungus and sludge for the drops.

The Grot Grub House is the least finished of the two, if that was hard to tell. I still need to add some chimneys to the dinning hall (the room farthest from the squig pen). But I don't think I'll add too much more, as far as debris.
I also got the first of the Exodit Felowship (samurai) in that shipment. I'm very exited about using samurai minis for the exodite colony, so if anyone has a line on some traditional samurai minis let me know, please.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

So, it's been a little while. I've done some more work on the grot buildings. The three buildings have been dubbed Grot Alley and will line the side of the Mekshop. Also, Grot Alley will be the road that leads to Bigtoof from the freeway.

Now for the pics:
First up, the Billboard and first building on Grot Alley

The "cut-out" looking square is another hatch to shoot from.

Sorry the pic is awful, but it show the entrance for the roof... the dark hallway under the stairs. I'm going to hang a curtain or something in the doorway.

And another shoot to give one more angle on the thing.

Next up, the Grot Grub House:

So, not much has changed on this one. I've added some vents and exhaust pipes. That's about it. I might clutter the back up when I add the mushrooms.

A better angle on some of the exhaust pipes.

And finally, a Grot Complex:

Complete with power generator and observatory. I still need to finis the observatory and wire the power lines. Otherwise this one is ready for basing and paint.

Oh, and I need to put rivets and nails on all of them still.

What do you think?

I love this hobby, but I don't have my own room or a garage or studio of any kind. :( So I figure, find someone who does have room and talk them into housing it. I still want to be able to play on it, so I figure a FLGS would be the best place for it, not the safest however...

So, selling the table as a complete set is the idea. Maybe a tournament or some showcase will want time with it. I dunno, I just have to keep telling myself that it won't be staying here for ever. Sad as it is. Also, I've been trying to be less of a collector and more of a maker these days, not that both aren't fun.

Now for some hobby planning of a more immediate sort. My "what's next" poll is going well, and I thought I'd figure out exactly what I was going to do with the Super Grot CCS if they win. The squig hunters are a bit easier to figure out.

CCS:
Zuddur Uzgrim as Company Commander - Iron Hand Straken
Veterans - BSB, Vox, Grenade Launcher, Flamer
Body Guard(s), Astropath, Master of Ordinance, Officer of the Fleet

This is how I'm gonna model them. The vets might change, the two weapons upgrades at least. That is to say, they might both be GLs or Flamers. I know the common wisdom is to spam the weapons upgrades to maximize fire output, but I'm trying to build this a bit fluffier than that. We'll see. I'm not going to do much for Straken, as far as modeling. I just think his special rules lend themselves to a green "counts as IG" army, lets them retain some of that WAAAGH! The body guards won't be modeled too much either. The Astropath and Master of Ordinance will be modeled, however. I haven't made up my mind about the Officer of the Fleet.

I think that's an excellent idea. It'd be a fun and creative way to get a second income going too, if you have the time. It seems like something you enjoy, I say if you've got the time to keep building tables, do it, then sell em' off.

And if you're giving away Bigtoof, you should make sure you fill the grot houses in with silicone or foam insulation so they have some good structural rigidity. If you haven't done so already, mind you

Ok, I've got the vets mocked up with blutac. They are still missing an arm here and there. The BBQ is a lot bigger than I was hoping. It doesn't fit on the base at all, so I'm gonna make it a free standing piece.

Uzgrim and his bodyguards are metal models so they are done (except for paint). I'm not sure about using the lesser runtherds as bodyguards tho, so they might just be stand-ins for the time.

It's too late for me to want to upload picks, so you can expect them tomorrow. There is still plenty of detail to add, besides the fact that none of them are glued together yet. See you tomorrow.

Alright! I've got the basic squad + special characters + Astropath in progress, and pics are here!

Uzgrim and his Bodyguards:

"Counts as" Kell (to be named):

He still needs the Uzgrim's Standard and a power weapon. And requests for what kind of power weapon? I'm thinking something runtherd related, or a power axe.

Missile Launcher Team:

The one with the launcher has his right arm (under the launcher) but no left arm yet.

BBQ (hvy flamer):

I've got some ogre kingdom meat bitz to throw on the grill... once there is a grill, and I need to make a third leg for the bbq. I also liked that his hat kinda looks like a backwards baseball cap.

And finally, the Astropath:

Now, some of you may have seen these two before. They are the field dispatch for Stop Trukk Towing (the deff skulls towing company).

The missing arms are more a result of not finding some of my bitz. I think they got lost in the re-arrange of my apartment. Same goes for "Kell's" head. I want to use one of those heads that's screaming.

I'm having second thoughts using the old models for Uzgrim and his bodyguard. THey are actually the same size as the super grots, so they end up looking small, and they look more orky than the super grots. I guess I could make the grots look more orky. I dunno, what do you think? Let me know.

Thanks for reading.

*edit*
Something else, I found this model shifing through my bitz box:
http://underthemountain.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/cadwe-agitator.jpg
Counts as Callidus Temple Assassin. All but the shield arm will be there.

Uzgrim's favorite BBQ Chef (flamer), Gutsnik's Master of Ordnance, and a potential medic or vox carrier. I figure, since he can't fight as well, they would make him carry the radio.

Here's a different angle on the two that need one:

I want to make the MoO's backpack less smurfy, but I can't think of anyway to start... any tips?
The bottles that the chef has on his belt are gonna be salt and pepper, or some other spices. I figure, I might swop out the "medic's" helmet for some scrap or a weapon or something.

Thanks for checking it out. Comments and Criticism welcome and wanted.

Also, I found an old ogre while rummaging through my bits that I think would be great as Nork... so now I'm collecting nob bits for him... stay tuned.

pretty cool, love the bbq
If you're set on using the smurf-pack try chopping the main exhausts and the lower part w 4 vents, then inverting it and work from there.

Nice work. I love what I'm seeing. For the old ork models, I think if you GS some long noses, it will make them look MUCH more grotty.

I love the heavy grill flamer. A great grill mesh would be the mesh they use for cross stitching. You can cut it to shape and drop/glue it right in.

This thread needs more spatula!

ps: More spatula?

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions.

Wown those are looking great! I especially love how you added a bit of goblin face to the IG helmet of the MoO; must've been some careful cutting.... If you want to remove the smurfiness of the backpack, I agree with monkeytroll: removing the vents would go a long way. You could always put the radar dish to the side in stead of one of the vents as well, going for a more lopsided look.

I see for Kell that you found the heads from microart as well . How do they hold up? I have them in my bitz box for my next bunch of kommissars, so I'm curious about them. They look a tad big, but nothing that can't be fixed.

The BBQ.. is pure win Lovely idea! When it comes to a power weapon for Kell, have you considered a ramped-up grot-prod?It would fit with his 'Listen up you maggots' rule.

Careful cutting indeed. The hardest part was the nose, though. Not cutting it, rather - not bending it, and I wad to be careful not to stab it into my finger while holding the thing. Well worth it though, as I came out unscathed.

The grot prod is brilliant! I pulled one out of my bits yesterday without knowing what I would use it for (it just looked useful), and now I know. Thanks.

I've got another visitor coming this weekend, and I'm working early tomorrow, so I don't think they will see any more attention until the middle of next week. :(

So, the nightmare forge I found flipping through the DH Radicals handbook. It sounds like a great addition to the fluff of the Tyrant Star, so I figured I'd make one for Gutsnik, only it'll be a cybor-squig sort of thing. Giant and unable to move, blasting out orkish spores and calling to Gork and Mork.

I'll have to do some serious concept work to make it truly orky, but it should be a fun challenge. I'm not going to start work on the physical model any time soon (I think) because it's something that will go inside Gutsnik's mekshop, or at least on the grounds. But I'll start working on some sketches and post them.

There is a nice special rule for Nork that says he will kill a Commissar if the commissar tries to kill the Company Commander. I was pretty excited to find this rule, because I wanted to include a Commissar in the CCS, but I was worried about losing Uzgrim in the heat of battle... and now that I have a base for a Nork conversion I'll definitly add the Commissar model to the CCS. It's another old metal Space Ork. He's got a peeked cap, too, so he looks the part! More picks later.

@Arakasi: Glad to go above and beyond... wait, is that sarcasm? ;P

I'm glad the BBQ is a big hit too.

bump

I'm still looking for feedback on the bodyguard, do the runtherds make sense as a runtmasters bodyguard or should I use model some boyz? I am going to make Nork, to protect Uzgrim from Da Lord Kommizzarrr if things should go sour, but I want the regular bodyguard too, so I don't have to spend the points all the time.

So, should I model two boyz for the role of bodyguard, or are the runtherds ok?

"Counts As Nork Deddog" Nork Da Ork, said to be a spore pod mate of Gork's. And a shot of Uzgrim next to Nork for size comparison.

So here is the Officer of the Fleet (with all the feathers) and two new bodyguards for Uzgrim. I'm gonna use the runtherds as platoon commanders. Now I just need to find arms for them. The new ork arms look too big. :(

So now every character in the CCS has a model!

....just need to finish 'em.

Any tips or requests for Nork would be appreciated. I want to take away the chain axe and give him something characterful. I need to toughen up his gun too. Thanks!

THanks. I'm pretty happy with Nork, too.
The marauder arms look like they would be good for the super grots. I want to use ork arms for the orks, though... I've got some old plastic ork arms somewhere around here.

I've spliced Nork's pistal with a big shoota. It needs some GS to gap fill, but I think it works for his Rippa Gun.

I'll post a pic of the whole squad use I get some GS work done.

I found a kopta near my desk and started taking it apart (in my head), looking for bits... and I started thinking about the tau helmet inspired bionic cranium/eye that I wanted to make for Gutsnik. Some size comparisons and scrounging my tau bits, I came up with this:

What do you think? I'm going to get a tau helmet to slip under it (covering the top/right side of his head) or just GS it.

And here are Gutsnik's newest employees:

The two on the left will be kommandos and the other two will probably make it into his retinue.
ps: it looks like the primed ork's hat is actually a rat tailed, unicorn squig. You can almost make out the things face on the front.

The ear will be getting the axe for sure. I'm basing it on a great concept sketch from LordDirk over on advancedtautactica.com.
Here's a link to the image:

The one on the right. So the right side of his head will have a tau helmet/brain case that will cover the top and upper right side of his head, above the eye-patch strap.

Gorbad Shakstof: SAG Mek (gun-servitor/acolyte/warrior)

Skabmek Wazgrot: Mekboy (acolyte)

Narslag Bursog: Nob (Warrior/Crusader)

Nazgrud Wortskab: Runtherd (Acolyte)

Skarbag Durrunt: Head Painboy

Gorgul Grotstof: Painboy

Ogthug: Grot Orderly (familiar)

Herrot Zogustus: Digganob Shaman (Sage)

Skumrunt: Sneaky yoof (Sage)

Magzod: Wyrdboy (penitent)

So, that's where it is. I haven't done more than find arms for a few of them. I've worked up a few other characters that I will have to model, which will be fun, but that's where the retinue stands. I'm still figuring out the mopeds. I think I will pose a kroot first, just to get a rough idea of the size. Then I'll make a hand full and pose the kroot on them. In the mean time, I'll try to get some GSing in for the CCS... :/ the stuff still intimidates me.

Oh, and here is the Callidus Assassin:

Looted Pirania for the Kommandos
I have been wanting to put more looted Tau gear in Gutsnik's army, and I am kinda leaving it to his grots (tech guard) and the vehicles, though some heavy weapons will show up, too. But I got the idea to have the kommandos riding on the side of a looted, kustomized Pirania (or two). The problem with this has always been cost. the vehicles are quite pricey. So I went to searching paper cut-out templates for trucks and bikes and anything else I could find, but none of it was quite what I was looking for... wait, that's not true. I found some awesome semi-truck cut-outs. That's how I did the cab for Gutsnik's battle wagon.

Thanks to monkeytroll, I found silveroxide who is using exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks to both of you for connecting the dots for me.

So, plans have begun (in my head) for a couple kustomized pirania kommando transports. I figure they'll count as looted wagons or something. It will be my first project that involves magnets, too, as I want the kommandos that are hanging on to be removable once they disembark. I'm excited about it, but it will have to wait for the next poll, at least, before I start any serious work.

*note to self*
Current Wraithlord will work great for The Scotsman. Just need to plump up the casket/head-pod thing. Making the bottom of it into the belly, shorten the legs a tad and add a kilt. Might make a dwarf dreadnought instead, play off the lef/dwarf bond/grudge fluff.

I was thinking of painting his head gear like a busted baseball cap on backwards; like the plastic band in the back of the hat is broken. Also, I liked his big, warty nose for the chef.

A chef's hat might be called for though... Oh no, wait! I'll be making a master chef grot for the dinner. Maybe this will be him, or I'll make another chef with a chef's hat. I'll need a couple short order cooks for the dinner.

Camo patterns:
The wasteland environment could include miles of sand dunes, barren ground, rock formations eroded by the wind, sandy beachheads, and the more traditional desert. In general, any greys, browns, and tans can be used, although yellows fit in quite nicely too. The general rule is to use colors that are slightly muted in tone and match the sandy landscape.
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1034415_wastecamo.jpg
1 - Start the camouflage by painting the area with a basecoat of Snakebite Leather.

2 - Layer a highlight of Graveyard Earth over the Snakebite Leather.

3 - Paint squiggly blotches of Bleached Bone over the whole of the area.

4 - For some extra detail, you can add some small spots of Dark Flesh.

Urban environments are characterized by buildings and roads. Typical examples would be hive or industrial worlds. A mix of different materials like brick, concrete, and steel can be found here. The camouflage should reflect this terrain with colors like black, grey, and brown. Angular patterns work particularly well, although more traditional patterns like dots and smears look very good too.
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1034414_urban_camo.jpg
1 - Give the clothing a basecoat of Codex Grey.

2 - Layer Fortress Grey over the basecoat and leave the darker color in the recesses.

3 - Paint the pattern with Shadow Grey. If you stop the pattern on any seams in the cloth, your camouflage will look even more realistic.

4 - For extra detail, you can add small dots of Chaos Black and Skull White to the camouflage.

Now that I've got the two threads going, I think I'll use this one to chronicle Uzgrim's Super Grots and the other residents of Bigtoof Proppa, the snake bite settlement.

I've decided that Chenkov's platoon will be the one running both the Saloon and the Diner, while Al'Rahem's platoon will be in charge of supply acquisition.

That will make it a bit easier to theme the builds of each platoon. Also it will set my mind at easy about using conscripts as busboys for both platoons, now only one needs a buss staff.

Chenkov's platoon will be more of a fire base, not moving much and able to hold the line. While Al'Rahem's platoon will be themed more around the ideals of the smash and grab job.

That's all for now. I'll figure out how to model all the upgrades that I want as I fine tune the list. I'm gonna go light on the guns as for the models, trying to stick with the heavy flamer from the CCS kind of thing. I'm thinking deep fryer for melta (if any), microwaves for the plasma... along those lines. Let me know if you have any ideas like that.

Thanks for reading.

A quick update on some old work. I don't know if any of you will remember the Batman and Robin pair I was painting a while ago... well, I realised I had done a fair amount of work on "Robin", here by dubbed: Rah Bork. So here are a couple pics, mind the mold lines, please.

This one shoes off his ring, which isn't really much to look at but it's a nice detail and angle of the model (imo).

And this one shows the reflection in the ball on his wrist a bit better. If you look close you can see him in the reflection... I think I need to make his goatee smaller in the reflection, though.

He is still in progress. I need to do a few washes and some more highlights, but I think the copper came out pretty well. I wash of the super lighter orange should clean up the mega highlights on the copper (I hope).

Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the bump, Bigfish. I'm sorry to say I haven't had enough time or enthusiasm to work on the super grots much lately. I got sort of mired in the list build, what would be the most characterful for the special rules AND my background.
The Looted Sawfish could go here too, but I figure the Ordo Gorkamorka had this design before it landed on 88 Tanstar, so I'm keeping it off this thread until it's based perhaps.
Hopefully I'll have enough juice to knock out some super grots soon.

The BBQing gnoblar is ACE! Fantastic idea, clean and convincing execution!

Yeah, I think I kinda blow my wad on it, if you'll pardon the expression. Mainly because I haven't done too much work on them since that model. The next batch will have more involved bases (when I get a chance to work on them) so that will be fun. Other wise, I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out just how to represent grot moonshiners (for some strange reason).

Some of the gnoblar bodies are carrying bottles aren't they. And Malifaux have some that would fit the bill I'm sure.

Couple of grots smashing barrels over each other's heads?

I'm sure you'll come up with something soon

Thanks for the nudge, Monkeyroll. It's got me thinking about the super grots again. I'll do some sketches and see where I might go with them... I'm thinking a lot of GS over-alls and hats.

*edit* 5/15

Going to renew efforts to finish Uzgrim's command squad. Pinning plastic heads and pre-paint basing will be on the top of the agenda for them. I'm making this note so I have a time-stamp on this particular "resolution"

I haven't had much time to hobby these past few days. But school is over soon, so I'll have a little more time on my hands.

ARISE, MY THEAD... ARISE!!!

So, I'm starting to plan what's what in Bigtoof. Which is why I'm reserecting this thread again, instead of posting in my workbench blog, which is also rather lacking in updates. I've edited the birds eye view pics of Bigtoof to allow for easier identification of the buildings. I've got plans for some of them, but I thought I would implore Dakka to suggest purpose for the other buildings.

Remember though, Bigtoof was built by a Snakebite Boar Boys tribe (which has gone riding) and taken over by a group of Runtherds and their grots.

Anyhow, here are the planning pics:

A: Gate House
B: Dakka Factory (2nd floor) and Shooting gallery (1st floor)
C: Ammo shop/entrance to shooting gallery (1st floor)
D: Grot repair shop
E: Clothing shop
F: Mugrot Duffang's house
G: Shop
H: Home of Shop Keep and his grots
I:
J:
K: Konveeninz shop (for random odds and ends)
L: Dakka Maker
M: Run down grot squat
N: Gorgrub Runtsnagga's House
O: Store house. Dried foord stuffs, ammo, weapons,
P: Uzgrim's 'ouse
Q: Fungus Farm, Uzgrim's Office (1st and 2nd floor respectively)
R: Stairwell for the Barracks
S: Barracks
T: Da Boss' 'ouse (grot lounge)
U: Bar
V: Diner
W: Shooting station for shooting gallery (where they fire from)
X: Kitchen for Diner
Y:

Right Square: Da Bazaar
Left Square: Da Job Pole, Bosses deck,

Squig Market "below" (through the two alleys)

Well, you'll need a dakka-making-place, a dakka-testing-pace, a dakka-storage-place, then probably a dakka-making-place, a dakka.......

What plans have you already, and for which buildings? That might help us come up with proppa planz

Ok, I've added the key for the map to the above post. Check it out and suggest some ideas. I will update the list as they come.

and Thanks!

D: looks like it could be a shaman's shack
L: could be the Mek's shop, already has some weird techno-gizmo on the roof
N: for testing experimental new dakka. Next to the Mek's shop (at least what I saw as Mek's shop) Open-topped to let out all the smoke and shockwaves but enclosed to peekers can't steal the new tech.
P: Dakka Storage, nice and accessible from the barracks

Hm... I like it. Dakka making in L. That thing on to is the base for a water tower. (pizza box support thingy) I need to update the pic some though, as N has a roof and there are doors and windows now that aren't in the pic... As soon as I can pull it all out again.

B,C,E - Guard room/quarters. Alternativey could be F,G,H

J,I,M - Residence (squatted by grots)

K - Armoury. Also possiby another at K. Neva enuff places to keep your dakka.

O - Food store. Dried shrooms and squig-jerky, also barrels, sacks etc.

And a look back at your key shows you aleady have barracks maybe forget the guard rooms then, I was just thinking they'd be handy near the gate-house. Perhaps the barracks could house the 'elite' ?

I like it. I think B and C will be the guard headquarters (with jail to hold unruly grots or teefless orks), while S will act as the barracks for the workers at the dinner and bar.

One or two of the building can house younger grots that haven't completed the super grot training yet. Other houses, yet, could be claimed by older, veteran grots who have graduated the training and earned a role above survive in the dinner.

Also, good call on O. It's already set up with a loft for storage.
