Have you ever been in a GamesWorkshop and someone do something that made you want to to scream out "NO WAY YOU JUST DID THAT?"
For instance I was in GW Brighton and these 2 kids came they must of been about 13-15 years old and they tried to steal some model cases the really big ones on a day that the store was packed to the gills.
what expirences have you had someone making up a ridiculous rule or trying to steal something share your expirences.

So I was in GW and someone was using two Land Raiders filled with Terminators. I was like: no way anyone in a GW is using a semi-competitive list. They were horribly mix and matched (Redeemer and Godhammer) which is to be expected, but it still blew me away.

WoW, those kids might have a little slow in them.
I was at a GW in the old Ontario Mills mall and a huge gang fight broke out in front of the store.

I once saw a 14 year-old shoplifter get busted at my FLGS. He went all to pieces when they called the cops... begging them to let him go and saying he was sorry and whatnot. He tried to make a break for it, but didn't make it out the door.
At the same store, a BIG guy passed out and it literally shook the store when he hit the ground.

One day I was standing around chatting at my FLGS, at their previous location when the Fedex truck came careening around the corner and ran into the building. The drive stomped in and practically dared any of us to say anything about it. We burst out laughing, he turned red and refused to bring the order into the store. He just dropped it out the back of the truck and roared off without waiting from the owner to report the accident or anything.

Wow, ok, having worked for GW, I have many:
One, this guy comes in, sketchy looking dude in our mall GW, and asks us if we sell bone dice. I go "yeah we have some bone colored dice" "No No, I want dice MADE out of bones, preferrably human, do you have those?"
Two, we had at Christmas time once had these 'Grannies against War Toys' come up in front of our store and sing a christmas song, until I heard the lyrics (tune of silent night).. they were basically protesting our store because we sold non peaceful toys.
Three, we had this one kid who shoplifted from us, so we banned him from the store. He was a good kid actually, kinda surprising, he came in pretty regularly. Next event saturday, he shows up, expecting to be able to play.. few weeks go by, I happen to be off but at our other city's GW store, and there he is, so I had to ban him from that store too. All for a blister pack of freaking Eldar Aspect Warriors.. but man, ballsy for him to try and keep coming back, like stealing from us is fine and we'll let it slide.
lastly, we had this one guy come in for a demo game of fantasy (the old one with empire vs orcs) and I didnt give the demo, but was working when this happened.. the guy loses the demo, mostly because he didnt take the mgr's advice, and then demand a rematch.. of course, you only get the one, and the mgr was being nice about it, and then it got real creepy.. anyhoo, i was painting so he leaves. Next morning, I open, and right away get a phone call from my mgr, saying mall security called him at 3 am, seeing if one of our staff members could be let into the store.. it was this guy from the demo game. So Mgr is telling about this, and im like "dude stfu, youre just yanking my chain here" which is something he would do.. and then who do I see sitting in front of the store, waiting for me to open?? Demo guy... I tell my mgr, "gak man, you were right, hes here right now" so he thinks IM joking... I tell him, IM hanging up to call security, see ya.
Turns out this guy who was kinda unhinged but otherwise looked like a normal nerdy 20 year old, all he wanted to do was come in at 3 am, and read up the rules, and then BEAT the mgr in another demo. I asked him through the window (still before open) Hey man, just so you know "Mgr name" is off for the next week, you know in case you were here to talk to him.. he was then banned by security from the mall. But yeah.. creepy Demo Game stalker....

As a Battletech Demo Guy I get old (45+ years old) players trying to weasel rules into games that are 20 years old and no longer used in that way, just to win a game against some 15 year old kid.
I had to catch a friend of mine when he had a seizure right between 2 tables of a MegaBattle. That was a close call, both for him, and the thousands of dollars worth of minis and terrain on the two tables. I also had the term "dead weight" very efficiently defined when trying to guide him safely to the ground.

One of the funiest things I ever saw was a woman who marched into my local GW demanding to see the manager. She proceeds to scream at him for selling her 10 year old a violent computer game, he tried to explain she must have the wrong shop, but she then accuses him of lying and says he saw her coming and hid the video games out the back. It wasn't until he took her outside and showed her the name of the shop and the name on the top of her reciept that she realised what a fool she had made of herself and stormed off looking rather red faced
The other was a guy who took a part time job in my local GW, whilst studying art at uni, he didn't know any of the games, and spent most of his time trying to convince new customers to go away and take up painting on canvass instead. He lasted about 5 days. The final straw was when he painted a batch of glade riders on pink and purple horses. When it came to handing back his uniform he launched into a bizarre tirede about the evils of wargaming and that we would all end up as drug addicts

Not that unusual over here, just another day. Also I don't really have anything to add to this besides that they get the occassional call about if they have any Wiis.
Maybe I'm just lucky and seem to avoid all the crazy people, except that one guy that tried to convince me that the entire world was simply an illusion of the mind and that nothing truely exists except what we want to perceive through our mind or something like that. He knocked on a tree a few times and said it wasn't real and then said that if we stopped believing in "facts" you could pass straight through the tree as if it were air. But, this happened one day on my way home from my IT course, so, nowhere near any GW or wargaming.

At a former GW store before it moved, I assisted in catching a high school student stealing from the store. I noticed he would bring in a old Landraider box and fill to to the brime with 40K stuff. I'm not sure anyone would have notice but of all things he was stealing Pendant Engines. Its not like there are mad rushes on these. He eventually brought these in, and explained he bought them in the shop. Easy catch: we didn't have any sister of battle/ witch hunter players in the shop EVER minus the manager. A creative lie could have been: i bought them somewhere else, nope, he was just dumb.
Gamesday Baltimore 2K RT event. I'm playing a Dwarf player, and the whole time i'm thinking "man his army is pretty big for a 2K event." I'm using my skaven, placed 3rd that year. The game ends in a minor win for me. I realize as I add the list up the models aren't represented. So I play dumb and ask to look at his copy: they were different. He was using 2250 in a 2K event. I take it to the organizers after round 1 response~ if we didn't catch it it couldn't have been that bad... priceless.

My only gaming what the is when I was playing a game of 40 K with a buddy he was measuring the distance to one of my units and dropped the tape measure right in the middle of a 10 man unit of 2nd edition marines I think we spent the better part of a hour looking for the all the pieces he felt so bad the next week he showed up for the game with a new box of marines for me and I was not even mad at him about it
The other what the moment was when I was working at Toys R Us when I was going to college I was filling the diapers which were located in the back when someone came up to me and asked if we sold toys no one believe me that this happened until It happened again but this time I had a witness.

True you don't have to be super hot. When I see the hobby store at a distance in the mall, they are all really noisy talking about their armies, and i just walk in, everyone quiets down and treat the game silly while playing. Rather awkward and they dont get "into character" playing a game with me. lol

We have this kid we call Max RAGE. He got the nick name
after consecutive losses, after which his temper went
more and more out of control.
The climax was reached when he took his High Elf lord on dragon and threw it against the wall.
I couldn't believe he did that, because there were never any problems with him.
Thankfully, he's much calmer these days.

Pre-loaded for the consumer's convenience? Ew.
As for my story..
Local store, 10 years back.. one of my last games before kid came along and games got shelved for a while..
A Bring an Army, no points day, just to play.. one guy (college age) shows up .. noonish, brings out a day-glo eldar army.. is playing well. No rules issues.. (his opponent is in his.. idunno .. middle teens??) but the college kid starts playing really poorly.. getting emotional, weepy, hating his dice.. and being fairly LOUD about it.. and in the middle of about turn 2/3.. while sitting in his chair.. just slides to the ground. No models knocked, but we all were thinking he had some medical brain thing just happen. Visions of stroke, etc..
when some of the adults got to him (not me, I was standing and boggling as well).. the announcement was made that he had passed out.. drunk! When you got close, there was about a 2 foot aroma cloud of booze.. the teen who was the opponent thought the smell was "college aftershave".. lol.
He had had a container of something out in his car .. evidently just drank it all in one go... to help him with "nerves" as it was his first time at the store. Also his last, not to mention..

I was in GW on a quiet day once and the shop doors were open. Two kids on scooters shot down the pavement outside and in through the door and rather theatrically fell on the floor and rolled around shouting. A member of staff walked over to see what the hell was going on but before he got close they leapt up and ran out the door and made off down the street on said scooters. It was just wierd.
I've been to a couple of Doctor Who conventions, and there's a few odd balls turn up occasionally. One year we actually dressed up and my wife went as the companion Zoe. Now she's not as small as the actress by any means, who was probably a UK size 6 or something, but this bloke starts talking to be and says she doesn't actually look a lot like Zoe and points out some skinny woman he knew and said "she's more like Zoe" to which I said "oh yes?" enquiring a bit more specific criticism. Well I think though his socially deprived daze he twigged at this point than he'd put both his feet in it and immediately tried to backpeddle saying "uh uh uh her hair is too long" and then did a disappearing act.
At the same even was a chap we all called "lightsabre man". To be fair he had something like aspergers and was a friendly enough bloke but caused many memorable moments. one year he brought along one of those light up lightsabres with sound effects and accidentally set it off when sitting down during the middle of a panel of interviewing Doctor Who stars. The same year he actually went up to the panel to show the actors/writers the lightsabre and was waving it around while asking the most bizarre questions. I don't recall many of his questions now, but one was "what was it like filming in black and white?", and "what was it like filming after the Apollo 11 moon landing?". He also made a huge rambling question to Blake's 7 star Paul Darrow in which he demanded to know what happened to the cast after the final episode which culminated with him shouting "...but we never saw what really happened, and we fans have been waiting nearly 30 years to know the truth!!"
As I said, he was a nice bloke but utterly mad.

My friends and I have actually caused a fair share of those moments. In middle school we start this odd game/skit where a silent, slow motion assassination attempt was thwarted.
One person, the assassin would sneak around in an over dramatized, menacing gait in slow motion. At the same time another person would mimic concerned observations of the situation and take off at a slow motion run to intercept the assassin. The assassin whips backs an imaginary coat and produces an imaginary gun that he then points at the target (often someone who as no idea what was going on). The assassin cocks the gun and aims it, but just has the trigger is pulled the hero leaps between the assassin and the shot and saves the target’s life. The hero falls the ground and the assassin mutters a silent curse and flees the scene in slow motion.
At first only the assassin and the hero were the players with the target and the surrounding people were the people with the “What just happened!?” expressions. But we did this a lot, and the cast grew. Sometimes there was more than one hero and the assassin had more than one bullet and a pile of bodies was left at the target’s feet. Also the target may have had experience with our shenanigans before and would make an over-dramatic gesture like falling to his knees in lamentation at the hero’s sacrifice, sometimes the hero will mouth his last worlds to the grieving target.
It got to the point that so many people were so accustomed to this skit that we would have more characters acting along than people unaware of what was occurring. People would play bystanders who would point out the assassination and mouth out the worlds “look out!” and “assassin!”. And a mob would pursue the villain as he fled away all and slow motion. Just imagine having a conversation with someone and they began moving in slow motion and silently screaming “Look Out!” while point at another person also moving in slow motion in an attempt to mime assassinate someone who is thwarted by the efforts of the hero.
We did this everywhere just not our FLGS, we were utterly shameless; playgrounds, parking lots, assemblies, malls, and so on. There was never any planning of orchestration, the skit started when someone started to slink around in slow motion and the first person to take up the role of the hero started a slow motion interception. As fun as this game was for my friends and myself I don’t recommend it in today’s climate.

There was a huge line of people in line at the GW store in the mall. My buddy was the only one on shift at the time so I offered to give him a hand answering questions and such. There was a kid (about 12 or so) who was really interested in the fantasy game. I showed him a couple things and explained the basics. He was so pumped up so I played a turn or two with him. He seemed like a nice kid and call me sentimental, but the glow on his face was priceless. I didnt see him again until a couple months later at the lgs. I guess his house was a couple blocks away so he rode his bike. He was walking around just watching games and asking questions. Being really polite about it and not wanting to inturupt anybody. We saw this kid every weekend at the store doing the same thing. Just watching and reading whatever codex somebody let him use. The whole time I only saw him ever buy one thing. An old SM bike (all metal) that somebody found in the back storage. After about 4 months one of the gamers did some investigating on the lad. We found out his family was on hard times. A couple of us went to his house while he was out (at school, I hope). We talked to his mom for a minute just to be sure she wasnt a crazy anti-game nut or something. After collecting from the regulars and a good bit form the store, we got him a SM megaforce with all the extras. Paint, brushes, an extra squad, various metal singles, codex, all the Black Library books we already read, and a button-down workshirt that said "(game store name) TOURNEMENT TEAM" with his name stitched on the front. We hid it all in the bcak with a "HAPPY GAMING MIKE" banner up and just went about our Saturday. He showed up and just sat and watched again. We finaly told him to go in the back and grab a soda, or whatever. The scream that came out of that back room was priceless. He just sat there staring at the table full of swag. We ended up ordering a couple pizzas and just kicking it as he flipped through his new army, wrapped in his new gamer shirt (it was a little big on a 12 year old. I dont think he minded though.). He didnt want to get a ride home because he thought his mom would get mad if he got in a car (good lad). We used a guys truck to tote it all down to his place. His mom was in tears. It was the sweetest thing ever. Hugging us and telling us "thank you". He was there the next week. Sitting so proud with HIS army ( Ultramarines) in front of him. Automatically Appended Next Post: If that doesnt make you well up a little bit, you have no soul. Its been 11 years since we set him up with his first army. I stopped by the store my last time home. Im in the army, so I havent been back in years. There was a picture of him at last years Games Day in Baltimore. He was playing Ultramarines.

Here in the Northeast Atlanta area, there's a little FLGS that has a cafe in it (great idea with really good food). The store is right next door to a tanning bed salon.
Hot girls coming in for a pannini or deli sandwich are not an uncommon sight.

Not quite as expensive as Cpt Gate, but a few of my buddies pooled some old Battletech minis together for a kid. He had watched us play regularly and though it was cool, so we gave him a few spares from stuff we had.
He only played a few times with us, but that kid could paint pretty well. Only person I've ever met named Eddie, too.

On topic though, I once walked into my FLGS to buy some paints, only to see one of the staff walking around the store wearing a top hat and carrying a Littlest petshop Butterfly soft toy. It took a few moments to sink in.

Never seen anyone attempt to steal somethin from my FLGS... maybe its because i just live in a small town... or maybe because the guy who runs the place is actually a Vindicare Temple assassin... Also, i can second what Generalgrog has seen... i was looking in the new SW codex... and sorta like "hide my shaaaaame!"

Cpt Gate, I have tears in my eyes. What a tale! I want to spread love like that man.
Also I LMAO at the invisible slow-motion assassin game. Me and my buddies play 'slow-motion invisible gunfight' quite a lot; it starts with pulling an invisible pistol out of your waistband, then escalates to assault rifles, twin uzis, hand grenades (that's a fun one) etc.
It always peaks with a Chuck Norris style invisible throwing knife to the head.
Invisible slo-mo games FTW.

Normal day at my local FLGS, when some shouting starts at the register. Some guy was arguing(sp?) With the manager saying the were outragious, and not in a good way. The manager told him he didn't HAVE to buy anything, the dude thought the manager was trying to be a smart a' so the dude punched the manager in the face. Everyone was awstruck. Then some kid, around 15 runs up, kicks him in between the legs shouting "For The Manager!!!". Sounds odly familier...

I was in the middle of painting and ran out of a much needed pot, so ran to the gaming store and got there 10 mins before they opened. And one of the staff had a car in the parking lot already, wait until about til 5 after, was listening to some Slayer in the car as it is.
So I go up and knock on the door and see one of the managers climb up off the pool table they have near the door and come over and open the door.
And promptly puke on the side walk infront of the store.
The staff had an all night drinking party and the manager was put to bed on the pool table at about 3 am and they opened at noon, by the owner. Another employee was cuddled up on the floor next to a 4 ft tall pikachu.

Here's one from a long time past. Was at FLGS for a tourny, I was playing my [army name deleted]. When the first round bracket were posted found myself facing Spacewolves with Ragnar... Won, barely.
Round 2 Different player, Identical Army. I won easily.
Round 3, faced the only female in the tourny and her Eldar. Got SMOKED. She wound up winning the whole thing, not due to guys being, well.. guys, but because she played very well and was decent about it. She even told me where I made mistakes in our game.

Cpt. Gate, that's an awesome story, nice to see something positive for a change. I tend to try and help the staff if it's busy- over Christmas there was a lot of kids just starting the hobby, and the staff were getting overwhelmed by kids bombarding them with rules questions, so I figured I'd give them a hand for a while, seeing as the (lone) staff member in the store is a decent guy and was getting totally swamped. Nothing compared to what you did for the kid, but I try and help where I can.
Anyway:
Over the last few weeks, loads of SM minis (painted store ones) have been going missing from my local GW. When I asked the staff about it (while painting some of my stuff up), they said they thought there was a 'black market' of sorts in the bunker at the back of the shop. By law, the shop has to keep the fire exit easily accessible, and it sounded like the kids were swiping the SM models off the display tables at the front of the store, going into the battle bunker to 'battle friends', and start selling the stolen figures right outside the back of the store. We're talking 12-15 year old kids here, crazy

Nothing can compare to CPT Gate's story (kudos brother...or sister?) but here's my go...
At the old shop there was a guy who would frequent it to play WoW. Now this fellow was a bit of a....hm...dirtbag (only because I can't swear here) who decided that playing WoW and hitting on the couple of high school girls who played magic there was more important than paying child support - keep in mind hes in his late 20's. So someone at the shop called the police and ratted him out. As soon as the police showed up he bolted for the side door...that was always locked. The sight of him slamming into the glass was priceless.

36 Genestealers glancing a land raider to death in 5th ed. Bug player didn't win the game, but it was impressive. All the outflanked genies showed up on the same board edge. 4 squads of 9. In the old codex they could get S5 with toxin sacs. S5 + 6 on the die, plus 3 on the rend is 14. Multiple damaged results later it stopped moving. He was using the raider to leapfrog forward (assaulting to get an extra 6" move) to get towards the center of the table faster. It was a very lucky accident. In the end they were too far away to get any further, but they did eat the LC termies that were in that land raider. Bugs lost on objectives with zero to two out of 4 objectives. Flank refusal + wrong table edge = bad times.
Edit: The land raider had not moved the previous turn due to being stunned by venom cannon fire. Everything autohit.

That was awesome Gate
I've never heard of something that nice (concerning wargaming of course). I've never really liked the Ultramarines myself because of how they're overused (Salamanders are heading that way though ). But, that is the exception, the one time I will say that that Ultramarine army was a good addition (no offence to the Ultra players, especially the well painted ones, you're alright). Also seemed fitting that he went with the Ultramarines and hearing about how he still had them 11 years later just made the story even better. I would expect him to still have the army, but maybe have been repainted or something. But, to keep it the same army all those years is just great.

If that doesnt make you well up a little bit, you have no soul. Its been 11 years since we set him up with his first army. I stopped by the store my last time home. Im in the army, so I havent been back in years. There was a picture of him at last years Games Day in Baltimore. He was playing Ultramarines.
Mate, even a cynical armoured hearted wardog like me found that a throat lumper. Good on you You could have given him orks though

Heh, funnier story back in 3r or 4th when rending rippers were the rage, a friend had a full squad of them charge into my sister squad(back when rolling a 6 to hit was an auto wound with no save). Throwing a crap load of dice......not one 6 was rolled. Man that was funny......
