So I voted tie

I always play to lose or to draw. That's the correct way - the casual gamer's way. The only people who want to win are Tournament Gamers, and all Tournament Gamers are closet KKK terrorists (as we all know).
So no, I play to draw and/or lose (hopefully both!).

I love a tied game where we both pushed each other so hard the neither of us got anything more than death. One of the greatest feelings for me is looking at a table that once had two full armies of minis and now there are only a few scraggling pieces left limping around the table.

I like it to be close. I don't like losing and I know I can get rubbish when my units are getting absolutely hammered.
It is much more fun if you are trading blows than if you or the person you are playing against are just romping all over the place.
Plus I only tend to play against my brother so it is much nicer if we both get to feel like we did well.

Hahahaha!
I only like to obliterate my opponent if they are an ass, or if they are someone I have a rivalry with.
If it is a game of kick the baby where the other guy just stood no chance, that really isn't fun and is pretty much a waste of time.
So I voted solid win, as that usually means it was a game, but I still came out way ahead!

I only like to obliterate certain armies, CSM:Khorne, DA and BA are my favorite. But only when it's my tatics and engineering of a good list that is responsible for this. I'll offer mulligans to my opponents if the dice gods are being too evil. Anyone who employs canned chedder or spam lists they found online are fun targets as well, I tell myself that I'm keeping the game interesting for them. I catch myself enjoying 'teaching people a leason' so to speak; I kind of wish this wasn't part of my personality but evidently I am one of those guys.
So since my greatest satisfation comes from the moments I listed; I will vote Option 1. Even though I hate myself for it just a little bit afterwards.

I like a close game, and obviously it is more fun to win. But I can enjoy a really close game that I lose, too.
I had a recent game (Old Tyranids vs. Space Wolves) that I won only because the game went on the extra 2 turns. If it had ended after 5, I would have lost, but the extra turns let me squeak out a win by tabling him.

I voted for a slight win, because I'm not self-decieved enough to say that I don't want to win but as long as my opponent isn't a complete clod, we probably both had a good time in a game with that result.
However, I'd probably lean towards "don't care" as I'm not going to turn down an crushing victory or a solid win if the dice go my way, and a loss or complete annihilation is still going to be fun if my opponent is a good sport about it.

My preferred result is to have a fun, engaging and pleasant game with a mature opponent whether I win, lose or draw.
My least preferred result is to get into rules arguments, play a mechanical opponent who cares for nothing but rolling the dice and winning, or have my opponent sulk when he/she loses or gloat when they win.
In short, it's not the end result that's the most important thing to me. It's how we get to the end. If I win, great! If I don't, well I still had fun (hopefully).

I for one think that the funniest way to go is a humiliating defeat. Like having half your skavens be destroyed by a rampaging Warp Lightning Cannon, hitting the Bell at the end of the line, blowing it up and having your remaining army run off the board due to seven consequetive failed leadership tests ON THE FIRST ROUND! (true story ^^)
If I played to win I would play Space Marines or something, but I play Orks and Skaven because it's effing HILARIOUS!

For my own sense of pride I like a solid win, with the few units lost sacrificed for a reason. Now, it doesn't always go that way, but those games are my favorite. On the flip side I lost 90 percent of my guys in my last game to my dad (who I've been teaching to play for the last 4 months using two of my armies) who only suffered 2 deaths. It was his first win and he had a great time, such a great time that he sent me out with a hand full of cash and told me the buy him his own army. So, maybe a loss here and there isn't such a bad thing.

I voted Solid Win, although a good game is a good game no matter the outcome.
I voted Solid Win because:
1) No one really likes to lose
2) A Close game may be fun and interesting, but I'd much rather try a last minute ballsy move and fail then go for the "sure thing" Tie.
3) Slight wins could have just as easily gone the other way if the Dice Gods weren't on your side.
4) No one likes to beat up on someone who didnt have a chance (aka Heavy Win).
In the end, a Solid Victory means you have defeated a worthy opponent due to your own skill and not due to the whims of lady luck.

Solid Win, because
A) I don't like to lose
B) All my friends always say "You're going down" despite always looking (as seen in my victory record)
C) They always mock me IF for some reason I lose
It's not fun to win because
A) They start to whine about luck
B) They become not-likeable people to communicate with

Narrow victories are by far the best.
Losing is OK to learn from, but you can learn from winning too!
Crushing Victories are always sour in my mouth, I feel bad for ruining someone else's game.
Draws annoy me, there is no such thing as a draw imo (VPs imo, and if VPs are even some how, decide with a dice roll!).
A narrow victory gives me the feeling of a game well played, especially against a good opponent, or using a bad list, or having terrible luck, or even making a crushing mistake at some point, those are by far the most satisfying games.

As a casual gamer, I went for solid win; you can still achieve as much in a friendly game and I was asked my favorite outcome. I do love suspense in the game, but at the end of the day I love to see my boys do well.
That said, every loss is a lesson. It's good to learn from a defeat because it means I'll play better next time.

I chose solid win. When you chose the right strategy and implemented it flawlessly, it feels good to know you won on your own merit.
I don't like a smashing as it usually meant you won by luck or otherwise and neither you nor your opponent probably had fun.
Second to a solid win, I like to lose even after I try hard. I like to pinpoint every mistake I made and the strengths of my opponent. I learn the most this way.

Solid win (you took a few licks but came out on top). I don't enjoy encounters which are too narrowly decided, as it often feels dissapointing to know that something as slight as an Armour Save or Glancing Hit could have changed things completely. Nor do I enjoy entirely Smashing my Opponent - like I could! - because it's really not enjoyable; often, both Players will know the outcome. I enjoy being on top though, so I've chosen a Solid Win, which is somewhere in between the above two.

I like anything from a neat win to a tie. Ties are probably more preferable, as I usually forget about objectives and concentrate on killing my opponent (not literally... yet ¬.¬). Contesting a late objective is usually what I go for.

When I do play its really more of a social thing. I don't really care if I win or lose (though its usually the later I'd have to admit), as long as I have a fun time doing it and can get a bit of banter in with my opponent. Seeing as I play a themed army and spend more time on modelling than learning tactics, its usually the case where I end up getting my ass handed to me-Sanguinery Guard can go feth themselves-, but seeing as I play a force that's fluff pretty much makes them a bunch of neo-facsist pigs, I'm not too bothered. =P

I chose Solid Win. I love the games where my boyz kill everything they aim their shootas at, but it's not fun if you completely annihilate your enemy without losing a single wound anywhere. With that said, if one of my units begin to really take a beating, I will go the extra mile to see them get wiped out. It's probably slightly OCD-ish, but I just can't stand to see mob of three or four boyz running around trying to do something. I'd rather they just die in that case.

I prefer "Slight Win," because that means the opponent put up a fight, so, while not as much a "learning" experience, per se, than a total defeat, it still gives you a decent amount of knowledge as to what you can do to get a solid win or total domination next time. Also, a slight win would mean that you were playing a worthy opponent, making the probability of you having some of a lot of fun very likely.

I love games that come down to those last turns and those final rolls. Both opponents watching eachothers rolls carefully, whose favor is the lady in today. At this moment, who holds the future and who remains in the past. That bit is why i like playing, having to 'earn' a win. Feeling, that was worth the hours spent playing.
If I look at a field and see I've dominated, I lose interest in the game and start playing crappy lists until I feel my opponent has a better hold of their army. If I look at the board and see I've been completely dominated, I remind myself Spacemarines are stupid and SpaceWolves were not made with any playtesting versus an ork army.
Let me rephrase something slightly. I love a close game, unless my opponent is a Space Wolf player, then I hope I kill his psykers on the first turn and my boyz smash his stupid termies with bad armor saves on his part and his drop pods fall into the warp. All hs vehicles fail dangerous terrain checks and my Nob Bikers ride through his other troops like lava through a forest. F*n SpaceWolves.
Slight Win.

In tournaments, complete annhilation and nothing short of it. Anytime money is involved the kid gloves come off.
For every day/week play, I like close fights.
Cause for 1. I've been on both sides of the coin, It doesn't feel good getting your perverbal teeth kicked in, and not scratching your opponent, so obviously they aren't going to like it either and you can tell it when you have only 2 or 3 models down and thier army is wiped away.
2. I've found the difference between awesome armies and cake walks is a.) IRL finances, and b.) experience.
Little 15 year old Timmy with his 10 dollar a week allowance is almost always going to get thrashed by the 40 year old/100K bank roll guy who's been playing since Rogue Trader days. Just facts of life.

I grappled the shoggoth wrote:CRUSH YOUR ENEMIES
SEE THEM DRIVEN BEFORE YOU
AND HERE THE LAMENTATIONS OF THE WOMEN
Came here to say that.
Though its better in the full version:
What is best in life? (in Arnolds voice) To crush your enemies...to see them driven before you...and to hear the lamentations of their women.
An inch or a mile, winning is winning. Its the only true answer. Why?...because it doesnt happen every time, so when it does it should be enjoyed.

I love those games where both armies and players are on the same level. At one point it looks like he wins, then it looks like I win and finally I scrape through cause I had that tactically brilliant idea.

Slight win...both players had fun and the game came down to the last couple of turns. Blowing someone out is only a tournament thing and even then you have to be a good sport about it. I just feel wrong if I wiped out my opponent and he didn't get to even do anything because of the waxing he took.

Last game i played I won with the last Terminator in my Deathwing army holding an objective. Every other troop choose was either falling back or destroyed and no one was close enough to contest. It was a space hulk battle and every army got pretty mauled.

I love a good back and forth aggressive battle that ends in a draw. my buddy and I had a knock down drag out fight on a table, and it was epic gaming time.
we had to have a bro hug afterwards. awesome fight. we were both just stoked about a good match up.

Utter crushing defeat taking no casualties. I get extremely angered if the opponent rolls any higher than a 4 for anything in the entire game.
The sake of my e-peen is too great for anyone else's happiness.
although it is fun when someone laughs during the game

A slight victory really gives you the satisfaction of being the better tactician, especially when you're outnumbered.

I always strive for option 1 - to win with a flawless tactical performance. However when I have crushed my opponent (especially when my Tau went up against Space marines in their paper mache training armour) the victory was so unbelieveably hollow it reminded me that perfection should never be achieved.
Slight victories are the best, where your opponent has really pushed you all the way.

A close game.
A game that is not hard-fought and won (ie, a walk-over) is somehow not as satisfying as one you have to work for.
I'm not that keen on gimmes.

Slaughtering the opponent, but barely.Like rolling just what I needed and no more.i.e.,if I 4+ for everything,I get 4 for every thing.

While I enjoy a crushing victory as much as the next fellow, the best and most interesting games I play are when I go up against one of the Ork players in my league, and 9 times out of 10 it ends in a total draw - both sides having completely annihilated each other to the last man. I love it when two armies hit each other and explode.

I wasn't actually sure which to choose on this one. I really don't care too much about winning or losing, as long as each of us had a good time and felt like we were able to compete. I know I've had MTG games where either myself or my opponent simply couldn't do anything. One of us couldn't get the resources we needed to get the ball rolling and got smashed. Those games are never fun for either player involved.

While I don't play often, I still like to win with confidence but hey.... bottom of the ninth 2 outs and the slugger is at bat to win the game and homers.... to win like that I just want jump, cheer and spill beer ... everyone who watches baseball knows what I mean.

thb i'm not very good at the game so i'm always happy when I win. There is only one person I like to total smashing win over b/c he always beats me. ( I finally won my first game against him about 2 weeks ago)

I have to admit, as fun as pouring battle cannon shells onto an enemy army and wiping them off the table, those hard fought, street by street, building by building games are just great. even if it ends with you losing your entire force to hold onto your last objective with bolter and chain sword, its just so intense that both you and your opponent are happy.

I must say that some of the most enjoyable games I've ever played have been either ties or a close loss for me.
Losing heavily is obviously no fun, but neither is tabling you opponent on turn 2.

I dont mind if i win or lose, but thoses games won or lost by a hairs breath are the best oones, as their more fun, and fun is what i'm after, not winning.

I love doing the tabling, but only if I take some heavy punishment and have some JAMMY AS FETH rolls in the process.
Like there was this one game were a Shruikan cannon and catapult wounded my CVindicare. Rolling 2 4+ saves and fail;ing 2, therefore removing me, but I roll 2 6+ FNPs! In the same game Draigo eats the entuire firepower of a 1500pts Eldar army and takes 1 wound from Perils while using Psychic Commune. AND, in the same game, Eldrad tries to Fortune a Guardian squad in 2 consecutive turns, and rolls Perils for BOTH!

I enjoy a good crushing victory once in a while, but only because I'm playing someone I dislike. If I'm playing a noob, I'd rather lose, give em some xp and a good morale boost

I voted solid win, but only because it's the median line. Ties are fruitless, and no one likes to lose.
A crushing victory is good every now and then, especially if it is due to better strategy as opposed to crappy dice rolls by the other player. Now a loss where you genuinely do learn something is okay, but a loss where you literally do everything you possibly can do right, and still fight to the last man in turn 6/7 is pretty awesome. From a fluff perspective it's like "yeah the forces of chaos were defeated, but at what cost?" kind of thing. It can be demoralizing for an opponent to realize they threw everything they had at you last time, and barely won, and now have to try and repeat it.
In the end despite any outcome, if the players aren't jerks it doesn't matter.

Slight wins are often the best to be honest, normally means both players have had a good game (or both had a bad game) so is more enjoyable all round.
