Sarah Palin is Receiving a Lot of Grief for Writing Notes on Her Hand Before a Paid Speech
13
Sarah Palin hand notes are the talk of the political world. Sarah Palin wrote notes on her hand to use it as a cheat sheet (or crib notes) while she was giving a speech on Saturday. The speech was for the Tea Party Convention, in which she was paid $100,000 to give the keynote. She was probably exactly what the attendants wanted to hear, as she preached to talking points that she had written on her hand. In an interview that she sat down to give, it also became glaringly obvious that she was referring to her hand when trying to remember what she should say. Now she is getting a lot of flak for needing to write the notes on her hand, and the Sarah Palin hand notes are turning into a huge joke.
So what exactly was it that Sarah Palin had to write on her hand that she couldn't remember? How about energy, tax cuts, and lift American spirit. Yep, those are some very difficult talking points to remember, especially when you aren't coming up with them yourself, but rather trying to sound like you are against anything the current administration supports. This was a forum that should have been the easiest thing ever for Sarah Palin, as she was being paid to simply come and be a keynote speaker for a group of people that were already supporting her. Not only that, but the crowd was probably going to be supportive of anything that she had to say.
The one thing that stands out from Palin's presentation, yes even more than the hand notes, is that she attacked President Obama for using a teleprompter. Well if you are going to attack someone else for using notes, it's important to not seem hypocritical when making statements like that. Sometimes it's necessary to read a speech when you don't have time to memorize it, and that is what someone like the President often has to do. This isn't new for Obama or any recent President, and isn't something that needs to be attacked. As for writing notes on your hand that you need to talk about lowering taxes and promoting new energy sources? My friend's five year old could do that.
I never said he didn't, but what kind of speech is so heavy and mind-boggling when speaking to elementary school kids, that you can't speak without such aids?

C'mon KK, that's a lame comparison.

'K, how about an hour of taking questions from Congressional Republicans on live TV?
I've done a few events like this, and teleprompters are @#$%ing GOLD. Notes of any sort, whether on paper or on your hand require looking down and losing eye contact. A teleprompter allows you to look right into the camera with out losing your place or eye contact. Every president since they were invented has used them. I really don't understand this Republican talking point.
And by taking on 100+ Republicans in their lair I think the Prez has shown he's just as intelligent and articulate without one.
I laughed watching that on the news too. For 2 reasons. 1. Really? Why do people care if shes keeping notes? 2. Really? Your complaining about the guy using telaprompters and youve wrote it all down on your hand?

Given that part of her speech was ripping on Obama for using a teleprompter for nearly everything she couldn't very well be using one herself could she?

While simultaneuosly crushing those pesky Indians.
The English had Edward the Long shanks A.K.A. The Hammer of the Scots, we have Andy Jackson, the Hammer of the Indians.
Yeah..... just what we need more American Myth.
Anyway, back on topic....This is just typical of people making a mountain out of a mole hill because they don't like Palin. I don't like her either, but I try to be fair in my critisism.

It isn't so much the use of an aid, but the actual message she's put on her hand. When people dismiss Palin they'll say her politics could be summed up as wanting to drill for oil, cut taxes and making people feel nice. And there it is, written on her hand. It's pretty much why I suspect its a photoshop - it's too perfect.

Obama got a lot of credit for his speaches before and during his campaign. One time, during a speach the teleprompter broke down and Obama lost his train of thought for a few seconds, this was gold to the GOP because their core strategy is to target their opponent's strength so they really ran with the idea that Obama's nothing without his teleprompter. It didn't matter that Obama writes most of his key speaches himself, this is talking point land we're dealing with here.
This filters down to the footsoldiers of the party and gets a little mangled along the way, remember it's been more than a year. Now it seems to have filtered in to be a simple accusation that he uses a teleprompter at all, never mind that almost every other politician and business leader does exactly the same thing.
Personally I think palins a moron and to ever think she would have a chance at the partys nomiation is utterly amazing of her. She lacks so many values that we attempt to hold dear to our presidents and won't even confirm nor deny that the 4 year old kid is her daughters which was proven to be. Hrmmmm thats the kind of women I want leading our nation.

None taken, since Jackson's biggest military victory against the English (the Battle of New Orleans) came after the war had already been declared over. In my book, it doesn't count.

Having relatives who were there at the time, in my book, it does.

Exactly. I don't care when a politician uses notes. In this day and age it's the best defense against putting your foot in your mouth. Even with notes we've seen many politicians, on both sides of the political spectrum, make asses of themselves. But I'm more concerned with what was written on her hand. If the image isn't photoshopped (which I'm not convinced it was) it is seriously depressing to think that she was ever elected into office. Nothing says "puppet" more than needing such basic concepts written on your hand.
What I'm floored by is that the grass roots, populist, anti government movement doesn't care that she had to get payed one hundred thousand dollars to do a speech for them.
No greater sign of the mental vacancy of a group of people.

Really ? Over here it was reported she took the money but pledged to donate it to "conservative causes".

I don't know ask Abama's wife. I'm sure they shop at the same stories using OPM.
The democrats need an attack dog. I mean the whole rebuttle to this teleprompter talking point is dead easy.
OK, how about you guys start memorizing all your remarks while we use notes projected at eye-level. Then a year from now we'll see who looks like a grownup and who looks like a blithering idiot.
This is one of those stories that'll get warped so much that by the time it comes around
to question something substantial, people will ignore it because of media fatigue.
That, while true, is the sad fact for many americans. The fact that this bumbling-fake-smiling-hick-thing is even CONSIDERED competent of competing in real international-level politics annoys a lot of us. But hey, I live in a town where my neighbor said her PREACHER told her NOT TO VOTE FOR OBAMA, because a MUSLIM in the whitehouse is a sign of the end-times.
She went on to say that I just wouldn't understand because I don't believe in the bible like she does. Great debating point to start from, huh?
If maybe we had, say, a 10% democracy earned by knowledge of current events and a test score on basic dumbassery , we might have saner, more level-headed 'leaders' bothering our airwaves with their schlock. I would like her in a debate with that little blond dumbass miss-carolina that was overly babbled about by the press for her ditzery (or wherever state) there might be a fight worth watching.
But NOOOoooo we have old senile people and angry racist hicks and greedy self-absorbed and oblivious wallstreeters watching the bottom line of how much tax there is, and bible thumping people with imaginary friends instead of sane voters... hence Sarah Palin and her wonderful political tool of a slowed daughter are allowed to continue existing. And Still a large chunk of the vote will be decided by which nascar driver endorses a candidate.
She well enough does stand a chance because despite common sense, a lot of the united states still thinks american "cheese" is actually made of cheese, pro-wrestling is a sport, and gets their political decisions assigned to them by their villiage priest, which means the most important worries are about gays not getting married or abortions or (a only couple of years ago) whether creationism should be taught as a science. It sways the masses, and in any population, the MASSES means lots of dumb people and only a few rational ones. I wouldn't be surprised if a Palin swimsuit issue emerges somewhere too, to further her fan base (I'm sure someone has photoshopped one already by now)
When selling a million copies of a book counts as a public mandate from people that cheer at hunting a big buck or making all those damn mexicans learn english, maybe we'll bother to learn if Alaska counts as a state or maybe its just a large moon, like Pluto.
Sarah Palin 2012! Because dumb people like other dumb people, who don't make them feel dumb!
there you go, slogan and all... just got to figure it out how to word it without insulting the morons. Maybe write a couple of ideas on your hand?
Guitardian wrote:Sarah Palin 2012! Because dumb people like other dumb people, who don't make them feel dumb!
Come on...Sarah has that good ol'-fashioned HORSE SENSE! And a lotta gumption too. I like that little missy. She's a pistol.
Seriously though, it says a lot about her that her snowmobile-driving husband is apparently the "brains" behind the scenes. Ah...the first dude. He's soooo dreamy in a scary psycho kind of way. I should ask our local snow plow driver if he wants to be their chief of staff. Maybe the local butcher can be SecDef.
Mark this down right now. If the GOP isn't very, very careful, Sarah Palin will hurt them in 2012 more than she helps them. She's a great figurehead for the "tea party" segment of the party. The trouble is that Sarah and Todd are absolutely stupid and egomanical enough to think she's a legit candidate. She can't win if she gets the nomination, so the GOP won't give it to her. So the big question is if she's willing to swallow pride and settle for another VP slot this time. You're going to have a lot of unhappy tea partiers stay home on election day or turn on the GOP if their chosen one isn't on the ticket.
I completely hear yaa... woo hoo snowplowing teabaggers etc.
but all joking aside (although there are pages upon pages left to adress)...
It is possible she could be the 'Hillary' in the next presidential race, or the 'Nader' in the Bush/Kerry race. None of the sensible repubs take her seriously (and none of the dems sensible or otherwise do either - what does she have left:? the nascar fans and hockey moms and people who give a flying fork about what it takes to be a cheerleader for miss alaska or whatever...)
point being... dont hate sarah palin for being a dumb hockey mom with a world-spanning view that includes 'the creek behind great grammas house' and 'the mountain i take my kids sleddin', and giggle and laugh at all that stuff washington expects of their leaders, hate the people who make it possible that this n!tch made bucks for being dumb, yet vocal, while the rest of us shovel and grind and flip and hammer, or maybe think for a living - yet might just get outvoted if it weren't for the repubs splitting their vote between the hickish and the financialish (hee hee i made a new wordish!) -
point being, if Miss Palin runs, it will breach the divide of the 'I love Jesus and guns and hate abortion and kill gays' republicans and the 'I inherited so i deserve my hummer and don't like taxes' republican. Either way, the dem's shouldn't feel threatened unless the census includes actual numbers of how many people still think the earth is flat. They could work with that statistic too.
I''m pretty sure as it turns out it said something along the lines of "Hi mom!". She said she did it as a joke. Also, what is wrong with taking notes on your hands? I do it all the time for HW and stuff.

1) in an interview, she was not able to name the supreme court justices... kinda important for a vice pres, huh?
2) it seems that people only like her because she is a she. When asked general questions about her campaign, few people are able to answer specific questions.
3) Is it just me, or is it that people hate Obama enough to like Palin?

The most interesting part of the Palin phenomenon is that she wasn't some last-minute eeney-meeney-miney-moe addition to the 2008 ticket. Certain GOP powerbrokers had put it in the works a year or two earlier. There's articles about it out there, but basically a bunch of GOP poohbahs happened to be in Alaska for something, and she and Todd had them over for dinner to schmooze them...and punch their ticket out of Alaska. Later, the GOP guys couldn't stop talking about how hot she was. Literally. Not how smart...how hot. And those guys then started floating the idea of Palin for VP inside the GOP a full year before the election. Then when GOP doofuses (i.e. Christian right) blocked McCain's (much better) VP choices of Tom Ridge or Liebermann, suddenly the seas parted for Palin and the rest is history.
The Palins are VERY ambitious. They're like the Clintons, just without any real education or experience. Or talent. That's why it'll be interesting to see how they'll react if they get rebuffed by the GOP powers-that-be.
Sarah Palin is fething slowed. Yeah, Rahm said it, and he is right. She and the teaparty idiots are fething slowed.
Suprised nobody has assassinated her yet.
@ Kid Kyoto w/ the Democrat Attack Dog thing
Did you see the interview with George Stephanapoulousosusuoulous and Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report? He was trying to recruit him for just that position. Might be worth your time to look up on the internetz.
Flashman wrote:Bloody Palin, somebody send her back to Alaska to count all the polar bears or something
Polar bears live in the north pole, not Alaska. The reason for this being that she already shot all of the polar bears from a helicopter.
Ok Karon, we get it already. Shes slowed, you hate her and tea parties, and apparently she should die because it would achieve nothing to kill her. She has no political power, yet it surprises you that no one has tried to kill her yet. It might be because democrats don't like guns and republicans usually own guns or something along those lines.
But for the sake of everyone, it was a public speech. Everyone uses notes, writes stuff down on their hands, or sets up teleprompters for a speech to a bunch of 6th graders. Its impossible to remember everything you want to say without either the full written speech or a series of keywords to remind you. If she only had these keywords written down and remembered everything she wanted to say, I give her more credit than Barack "prompter" Obama.
When a guy shows up in jeans and a tee shirt and speaks his mind maybe this would be more important, maybe with bad teeth or a balding hairline...
fashion and politics shouldn't be related. forking dumb idea.
The nixon/kennedy debate made famous by being the first televised debate comes to mind.

People hated bush enough to like huckabee. You better bet your ass people hated him enough to love Obama. Bush was one of the worst presidents in American history, any campaigner is going to smell like roses after he got done.
Guitardian wrote:they picked the wrong soundbytes you dumb person. Next time say less stuff people can make fun of.
I think the bigger issue is that they couldn't circulate any soundbytes which actually made her sound intelligent. Lots of stuff about homeyness, or folk populism, but that's about it.
100% correct. The 2004 election reminded everyone that you can't get elected on "the other guy sucks." You have to make a viable case for yourself as President (especially when the other guy's the incumbent). Obama made the case. Kerry didn't.
You know, the Jay Leno show asked people in the street about who said this and they thought it was Palin.

Ignore the name of the video, I didn't like Palin or Obama. I wanted McCain, because it would be like electing a person similar to the Frazzled we all enjoy.
I flew a sign at a rally in portland back in '04 that said "VOTE FOR ME, I'M NOT BUSH EITHER!"
Obama was voted in because he was intelligent and reasonable, and offered HEALTH to people who couldn't get it because their taxes were spent on BOMBS instead. Perhaps getting over Dubyah, or being black, was part of it but still Bush won out in '04 over Kerry... maybe because he wasn't black enough... and that is easy ammunition for anone who wants to attack our president for his failure to fix 8+ years of dumb decisions in his first year of office.
Funny how republicans come to power in the term after the dems try to balance the budget crap issues. Take all the credit, leave a mess, and then attack the janitor. Must be a white collar thing. So yeah I guess a black guy or a farmer is a better qualified candidate, while we wait in the wings to launch our wanna-be miss alaska assault, just to prove that soccer moms speak for all of us, no matter how dumb, the lowly janitors clean up for a couple of years before politics turns back into normal aka blowjob accusations being more important than international affairs.

He visited 57 states. That would imply he went to at least 9 of them twice since he did not visit hawaii and alaska at that time. As to the second video, yeah that wasn't particularly eloquent.
halonachos wrote:Your "Obama is intelligent" post got ninja'd by my edit. Sorry.
He said that he visited 57 states, implying that he had visited 57 states except for Hawaii or Alaska, meaning he had been to 57 out of 59 states.
If he had said that he had made 57 visits to different states then that would be implied as he had made 57 individual visits to 48 out of 50 states.
Actually, grammatically he could have meant either with both. Visiting 57 states does not imply either a selection of at least 57 different states, nor does it implicitly imply that he visited 57 different states. Within that sentence he could be describing how he visited two different states 57 times. It makes for a great soundbyte out of context, but only if you want to believe that he thinks there are 59 states in the union, which is realistically just a stupid thing to want to believe since it's incredibly unlikely and just makes you look a bit childish.
Back to bitchin'...
57 states... fine.. all good and well.. dumb missspeak on his part?, or maybe that kind of statement was a hint at the status of Guam and Puerto Rico? as american 'colonies'. MAYBE that kind of oops was actually a little jab at the status of our 'colonies'? of which I also consider alaska and hawaii a part of, just annexed for the moment in time when anyone gave a crap about them.. it's not exactly like they're our next door neighbors, and when hawaiians and alskans act like they care about the rest of the actual America, instead of just tourist spots and military bases, maybe I'll give a crap about what they say about homeland security of the actual HOMEland, which most americans don't think of as Alaska.
Mewiththeface wrote:I''m pretty sure as it turns out it said something along the lines of "Hi mom!". She said she did it as a joke. Also, what is wrong with taking notes on your hands? I do it all the time for HW and stuff.
And for math questions, did you write: 'Don't forget, 1-9, + -, X does not mean the letter?' During the segment where she was sitting in the chair, you can actually see her pause for four or five seconds, look down at her palm and read her hand. There's a reason why people giving long political speeches have things like notecards and teleprompters. You want to hit your cogent points, you want to keep the flow of the speech running along lines that mesh with the subject you're addressing, and make sure if you have any highly pertinent points, they don't get lost. So, really, 'lift American spirits?' was something she was in danger of forgetting to do during that duration?
Also, I'm surprised people don't remember the '57 states' clip because that brought the 'sekroot mooslim!' retards shooting out of the woodwork shrieking about how his true intentions were revealed because there were 57 islamic states. IIRC his explanation was, 'I was tired and slipped up when I meant to say 47.'

Never said that he believed it shuma, you're just making an argument aside from what was meant by my OP mentioning this. That being; people can be very, VERY bad at making speeches. I admit, I fell into the whole you were digging you clever little sapper you.
@Bookwrack, even something as simple as "lift american spirits" can be forgotten. Just imagine yourself in front of a crowd that wants you to smack talk the other party, that's all you focus on. Now, you remembered to attack the other party, but you didn't make the crowd feel any better, they're just angry and you forgot to make them feel better.
That's a poor justification for writing "lift american spirits" on her hand, but its easy to forget a lot of things. Next time you go to a retail store ask the cashier if they remembered everything they were supposed to ask you before you leave.
@Karon, the woman was in charge of an entire state and Obama was in the senate. Now here's a comparison: Ran a state, voted for a state. Obama never handled a budget for a level of government, he never made any decisions concerning state laws(now I'm saying state, he did vote once or twice for a federal law), he just voted every once in awhile. His job was just like us going to the voting booth except he could vote "present".
halonachos wrote:

No, it's really not. At least, not if you're an intelligent person who prepared for your important speech before hand. In fact, an intelligent person probably would've had a whole set of note cards under the topic of tax cuts, because that's a pretty damn broad subject. And 'lift American spirits' would've been an underlying theme you tried to reinforce throughout the speech, not a line item you checked off once you mentioned it.
Also, Palin managed to feth up running a city of 7,000 and didn't even have the ability to finish a single term as governor, quitting that to become a community organizer (I wish she could appreciate the irony). All that having more chances than Obama to display some level of executive experience has done for her is shown how lacking she is.
No, because I have spoken publicly more than several times. I won't count any stupid "public speaking" classes or oral reports.
It's hard to remember a lot of things when you are speaking to an emotional crowd. You tend to stray off course unless you have something to bring back onto the topic at hand.
I really don't mind when a person brings notes for what they want to speak about. It's bothersome when you see the notes though. Discouraging. lines like "live up america" or whatever aren't exactly the kind of notes we take about force=mass x acceleration sort of notes we scribbled in our youth to pass tests. Do we really need 'notes' to tell us that nonsense? I saw a lot of camera time and babble and all I really got out of it was something about Ronald Reagan having a birthday or something, but meanwhile I was drowned in rhetoric and buzz words and catch phrases and.. ummm... (running out of babble here)... GO TEAM GO! or something.
The problem isn't the person, she is just a billboard sign for an idealism. I'm more worried about where that brand of idealism stems from and if we should start going lynching and stuff or death campy, for all of our good (including the death-camped?... yeah probably)... wouldn't it be awesome if the intelligent and foreward thinking people were the ones running around offing people who didn't agree with their intelligent ideas... no never mind... those are the people who get burned at the stake. I want a reverse witch burning!!! she's ttooooo pure... and... and... spunky... and charming in a fake smile and laff kinda hair salon way.... BURN HER! ... oh wait.... one instance where the intellectuals were far behind.... ummm... burning people because hogs cause witch warts and mary magdalene was a slut or whatever. Dammit they beat us to the punch. Again. Religions are pretty smart. Smart enough to be smart in fact, and guide the actions of the chosen. THEY BEAT US TO THE PUNCH AGAIN... ALL HAIL SAINT PALIN: Martyr to the cause of donkey-caves, religions, and sledding!
That will be a funny flip flop when (not if) it happens don't you think? Hmmm... last gasp of assdumberry gets its straw man mocked to the grave... and then there will be a new wave of dumb-people revolution against not-so-dumb people, and she can have her pretty little head on a statue for representing the opressed dumbass in all of us.... yay. I'm rootin for her. I hope to have one of those hands in my precious collection of historical artifacts after its mummified, I knaw a bit off of it, and put it back in the 'republicans are just aliens in disguise' coffer under my bed.... just waiting for more
because either she will retort to all of the talk about last weeks debactle, or she will cower in fear and the careful watch of her PR minders until people forget again her verbal blabbercrap... anybody wanna take bets on which one the PR gods will pick for her?
I want to make a porn movie based on her and dan quayle having a vice presidential debate. Add some zombies, laser guns, and a couple of high speed exploding cars... we could call it Air Force Two or something equally vice-presidentially relevant. Box office smash.

It wasn't a discussion though, it was a speech. A discussion is when others bring up points and topics as well, almost like a debate. A speech is when someone talks to you and doesn't expect any verbal responses.
Maybe she spent all of her money on clothing and didn't have any paper to write her notes onto?
Thankyou popular media for making everyone know who did this in the election.
halonachos wrote:@Bookwrack, even something as simple as "lift american spirits" can be forgotten.
Which brings us back to what I said on the first page;
"It isn't so much the use of an aid, but the actual message she's put on her hand. When people dismiss Palin they'll say her politics could be summed up as wanting to drill for oil, cut taxes and making people feel nice. And there it is, written on her hand. It's pretty much why I suspect its a photoshop - it's too perfect."
I would trust my 16 year old niece to run the country before Palin. What does that say?
I think Palin is a great figurehead for the concept of the tea-party movement. The problem is that she appears to be nothing more than a human talking point. Terrorists bad. Hunting and guns good. God good. Taxes bad. Liberal-tree-hugging-hippies bad. That she quit as governor of Alaska, when the State has looming budget problems, doesn't speak well for her ability to manage the basic tenants of the tea party - lower taxes, stop wasteful government spending, and reduce the deficit.
I hope she doesn't get any party's nomination in 2012.
Kilkrazy wrote:She would have been more convincing as a candidate with broad appeal if she had stayed as Governor of Alaska and made a good job of running the state.
But that would have required, like, uhm....what's that word I'm looking for? oh, yeah, Work.
Personally, I think she realized that if she stayed as Gov, the budget crisis would drag down her political career, so like a rat, she jumped off the sinking ship and hopes to capitalize on her 15 minutes.

If that's true, then she is actually quite intelligent. I don't think its true though. I think she either crumpled under the criticism, or was given directed by party headquarters.

So, it had nothing to do with all of the ethical complaints the DNC was filing against her? The ones taking up all her time and money while being completely bogus (since they were all disproven)?
I get people don't like her or her politics. But to call her an idiot while Biden rolls around yapping at the mouth when he is not running over former olympic athletes? Both sides have their dolts. If you don't like her, call her out on her policies. Making fun of petty things like her notes on her hand, her kids, her husband seems pretty juvenile to me. Yes, she comes across as folksy and the Couric interviews did not help. But, if you have this much disdain for her because of this, why are you not FUMING that the vice president is doing his daily best to top her? At least she is not in office.....

That would be criticism, which she may have crumpled under.

Yes, they do. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be called idiots. Why would you assume that I think Democrats are paragons of intelligence due to my criticism of Palin? Quite foolish.

Why bring anger into it at all? That would be stupid.

Her opponents will have a field day with that.
"So you QUIT your governorship because there was a little too much heat in your kitchen after things stopped going smoothly in your state of 700,000 people, some minor scandals emerged, and because you felt people were picking on you and your family.
AND you want to be President of the United States of America. Are you going to quit when Jay Leno makes a few jokes about you?"
Bag and tag her.
I mean, does she really think everyone -- her GOP opponents and the Dems -- are going to "play nice?" It's kind of the funniest part in all of this. The Palins are really that dumb and that naive to think she's presidential material, when her actions show she's furthest from.
And again, the interesting parts are what happens to the Tea Partiers after their flagbearer goes down in flames in the GOP primaries, and whether Sarah and Todd would swallow their pride to be the VP candidate again.
Edit: I heard this morning that Rick Santorum is stumping around in Iowa with an eye toward 2012. He might be enough of a right-wing rabble rouser to get some Tea Party votes without Palin on the ticket, but can he win over the moderates? I tend to think that will be hard for him, given his record.
I think Santorum is too conservative to get elected -- that's why he got booted from a purple state like PA -- but I personally wouldn't understimate him either. Being presidential is very different from being a firebrand in the Senate, but he's a smart enough guy to know that and adjust, and he's more calculating than people give him credit for. I really wouldn't be surprised if he's a guy the right wing of the party rallies around during the primaries, at least in the early going. He's a lot more palatable and electable than Palin, at least.

I've seen his ratings. He could be making jokes about her right now and no-one would know.
Letterman hasn't been funny in at least a decade and look at her weird reaction to the ARod joke.
It wasn't a weird rection.
in truth I really can't stand Palin. However, his jokes about her daughter were beyond the pail. I would have showed up at his show and beat hell out him. She should have.
In a Facebook posting headlined "Fox Hollywood — What a Disappointment," the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and current Fox News contributor said Sunday night's episode felt like "another kick in the gut." Palin's youngest son, Trig, has Down syndrome.
Wait a minute? Family Guy is tasteless and crude? Gasp! That's inconceivable! Next thing you know, she'll get mad at Letterman for making jokes....er, wait...... I can't decide if her objective is to prevent any preceived attacks on her, or if it's to keep her name in the spotlight. It's probably both. Personally, I watched the episode, and I thought the "my mom is the former governor of Alaska" crack was pretty funny. And again, using Facebook? Really? Why not talk about it on Fox News. Or issue a press release. Be a real politician. I don't see Obama or McCain issuing statements on Facebook about how unfair it is for people to make jokes about them.
I'm sure that her failure to go after Limburger has nothing to do with him being the self-appointed spokesman for the ultra-right-wing. Nothing at all........
I wonder what would happen if Rush commented about the "slow" on Family Guy making a joke about her mom being the former governor of Alaska......

His joke was pretty crappy. I think he honestly the daughters mixed up, but with either daughter it was a crappy joke.
But that doesn't mean Palin's reaction was anything short of absurd. If an angry parent turned up and punched Letterman, at least it would have been honest. But Palin's theatrical reactions is carefully carefully chosen outrage... as noted she doesn't seem so bothered when Limbaugh uses 'slow'.

I think you have to separate the recent thing from the daughter joke. One's seriously different. As noted I'd have gone berserk and the phrase "enraged rhino mother WITH GUNS" comes to mind when you mention She Who Must Be Obeyed and the wee ones (ok ones taller than her now not so wee).
Like I said I am not defending Palin.

Yeah, if a parent turned up as Letterman left the studio and popped him I'd probably be alright with it. Private citizen reacting to an offensive joke about his kid. All cool.
If Palin had reacted privately, either by contacting Letterman privately or by sending the First Dude around there to deck Letterman, I'd see no problem. But turning it into a media spectacle was crap.
gorgon wrote:Palin also twisted it into being a joke about her daughter getting "raped." It was a joke about getting knocked up.
No thats accurate. Statutory rape.

Word. (translation absolutely agreed). Truman did it. I don't have a problem with it.

At one point does a proven failure of a government official, rightly accused of several acts of ethics violation and corruption, who campaigned on family values deserve to have her fethed up family mocked on television? If she faded into the background and just tried to continue to live her life I would take issue, but she's taking it all for a ride and trying to catch as much screen time as she can. Does she deserve sympathy at all? This is just like the "Dick Cheney has a lesbian daughter" thing. He does, she is, he shouldn't be talking about family values and the seditious "gay lifestyle".
If she can exploit her family for personal gain, why can't comedians mock her for it?

a) I believe Letterman got his daughters mixed up, his only real failing here.
b) Funny how Sarah never called it that with her other daughter.
c) You aren't keeping it real here.
Yea it is actually, both are/were underage at the time.
In light of Letterman banging the staff, the joke was particularly lecherous. But I don't watch Letterman so I don't particularly care.
